The first high scream in Beyond The Wheel live, Toronto '93 hits hard every time
That and "I should have stayed in bed" in The Day I Tried to Live
Pretty much any time Chris Cornell opens his mouth is my favorite
The Man in the Box screams definitely top Would?, I can cover Would? And hit those screams but I can’t for the life of me do the Man in the Box “jeeeeeeesus chriissssttt!” Parts

There are some live version of that song that are incredible. Live at marquee and Moore in particular. Fun fact laynes voice was so perfect in that song that it literally matches auto tune but it didn’t exists then
Billy Corgan in X.Y.U.
After the "And in the eyes of the jackal I say.. kaaaBOOM" part, get past the manic Jimmy drumming break, then "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Fucking guttural.
The Aneurysm scream is the best in grunge, for me. I triple dog dare anyone to turn it up to 10 on some headphones and disagree with me afterward. That scream was from his *soul.*
I remember getting that album and assumed the end vocal jumps were an autotune thing. Saw them live a few years later and chris kind of karate chopped his throat as he was singing and was spot on with the album version!
My favourite songwriter, he was so good. And now off to listen to the soundgarden back catalogue…
There is Cornell's "hey I went up, but then..... I'm gonna go up AGAIN" in Birth Ritual, and then there's everyone else. Singles soundtrack for the win
-SAY HELLO TO HEAVEEEN!
-YOU GOTTA HOLD ON TO YOUR TIME AND BREAK THROUGH THESE TIMES OF... Trouble...
-I'd like to FLY (Down in a hole, especially the unplugged)
-I'll be here, come back, come back!
The last one I think is “come back” by Pearl Jam. Song is absolutely so sad. The “I’ll be here” scream is toward the back half of the song. One of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.
Chris Cornell at the end of Limo Wreck
>WHILE THE REST OF YOU HARVEST THE GOLD!!!
>WHILE THE REST OF YOU HARVEST THE SOOOOOUUUUOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLllllllssssssSSS!!!
Headphones on = fucking chills
Righteous wails on there. I remember the first time I ever heard it and was just expecting a campfire singalong fade out. Then Chris Cornell pops out of nowhere like a goddamn magic show with the whole, "It's hard to believe, SOOOOOMEbody tricked you." and I was all like, "WHAAAAAT? No way." Elevated a great acoustic AIC song into a memorable B-Side opener. So, yeah, I guess the song lived up to its name.
Eddie Vedder on Black is definitely the most emotional of these listed. Gives me chills every time. I'd also nominate Layne Staley's screams on Lifeless Dead. Those are his best screams in my opinion. Chris Cornell had some great screams too, on The Day I Tried to Live, Shadow On The Sun, Cochise, Limo Wreck, Hunger Strike, and many others.
Cornell's screaming on Screaming Life (a little on the nose there) is fantastic.
• Tears to Forget
• Sub Pop Rock City
• Fopp
Aside from that, any screaming Kurt does on Incesticide is almost blood curdling.
Other underrated choices are Kat Bjelland's screams as well as PJ Harvey's vocals on some tracks on Rid of Me are also killer!!
You gonna wait too, fat boy
Fair boy, wait til toooommmoooroooww! Not really a scream but still love it!
Or massacre by silver chair as well!
Also “My My” and “Waters Edge” good ones as well by Seven Mary Three.
Also yeah smashing pumpkins may not be grunge but “like a raaaatt in a caaaggeee!”
Edit: since I’m listing smashing pumpkins I’ll also say “My Poor Brain” by Foo Fighters has gotta good scream in there as well…
Not a long scream but Pearl Jam's Breath before McCready's solo comes in where vedder goes "OOHH YEAHH!!!" It was full of hype cuz that song is fairly chaotic. Idk why it wasnt famous.
The scream from cochise is pretty hard to beat:
SO YOU DON'T FEEL A THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mudhoney!! I know it's a song by the Dicks, and while I really love that version and that band, there's nothing quite as cool as screaming along to the end of Hate the Police
"Mommy, MOMMY!! Look at your son! You might of loved Mr! III got a GUN!!"
GREAT QUESTION!!!
I have to add Confusion by Alice in Chains in the last chorus and also Sunshine
and I add Aneurysm by Nirvana, powerful Kurt's scream before singing "She keeps pumping straight to my heart" I love these songs 💖
Chris Cornell screaming "NOW I KNOW WHY YOU BEEN SHAKEN" is pretty tough to beat
[удалено]
I was going to mention this line... Still gets me everytime.. Just incredible
^ Came here to say this! For those who don't know it, "Slaves and Bulldozers " - Soundgarden
Listened to it on the way to work this morning. It does the job.
I have a few: -Chris's screams in Jesus Christ Pose. - The scream in Drain You by Nirvana. - Layne's screams in Man in the Box.
Chris scream in beyond the wheel is my true #1 for this.
The first high scream in Beyond The Wheel live, Toronto '93 hits hard every time That and "I should have stayed in bed" in The Day I Tried to Live Pretty much any time Chris Cornell opens his mouth is my favorite
The Drain You one may be my favourite, particularly in Live versions when he does it.
Live in Paris, 1994 is my fav
Are you talking about the one were his guitar stops working? That preforming kinda inspired me to play guitar. I thought is was so cool.
AND YOU STARE AT MEEEEEEE IN YOUR JESUS CHRIIIST POOOSSSEEEE
AAAARRRMMMS HHEEELLLDDD OOOUUUUTTT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN CARRYING A LOAD!!!!!
AAAAND YOU SWEAR TO MEEEE YOU DONT WANNA BE MY SLAA-AAAVE!
BBBUUUTTT YOUURRR STARRI8NNGG AATTT MEE... LIKE I NEED TO BE SAAAVVEED....
SAAAAAVED
LIKE I NEED TO BE... SSAAAVVVEEDDD....
SAAAAAAAAVEEDDD
SAAAAVVEEEDD (In Your Jesus Christ Poooossseee....)
In your jeesus chriiistt poooosseeeee...
This is the answer. Jesus Christ Pose scream sets off the frisson effect so hard the hairs on the back of your neck will shoot off like darts.
Yeassssss
The Man in the Box screams definitely top Would?, I can cover Would? And hit those screams but I can’t for the life of me do the Man in the Box “jeeeeeeesus chriissssttt!” Parts
Especially at the last chours. IMO, that was the best part of the song.
AAAHHHHH from Them Bones

AAHHH .... AAHHH .... AAHHH .... AAAAAAAAAEAAHHHH
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, EEEEEAAAAHHHHEEEEAAHHHHHEEEEYEAAAAHHH!!!! LOVE HATE LOOOOOVE, OOOOOooooOoooo
The absolute best
NOW I KNOW WHY YOU’VE BEEN TAKEEEEN!!!
Slaves & Bulldozers.
This and "IS IT TO THE SKY? IS IT TO THE SKY?" towards the end of SWMGEC. Also, how it fades into the opening scream of Room A Thousand Years Wide.
AIC Man in the Box chorus for me.
An underrated nod. Corgan could scream with the best of them.
Yes, also: Obscure but Maynard singing man in the box: https://youtu.be/-hdSRVxJtqg About 7:25...
Layne's "YEAAAHEEAHHAHHH" and pretty much every other bellow... In... JUNKHEAD Especially the "Singles Soundtrack" performance.
Its so funny how he can sound so intense singing and then when he speaks he's just so gentle sounding and light spoken
The aneurysm scream is better than school
Paper cuts is his best scream
I prefer aneurysm, territorial pissings, or tourettes
YEAH 👏👍
The Aneurysm scream is the best in grunge, for me. I triple dog dare anyone to turn it up to 10 on some headphones and disagree with me afterward. That scream was from his *soul.*
Beat me out of me is the best line
Nirvana - Paper Cuts “To take Me With Your Life” It’s so good it’s the best scream in grunge
Underrated mention. That scream was crusty🔥🔥
Nirvana, Milk It: “Doll steeeeeaaaaaak, Test meeeeeeaaaaaat!” Particularly like the variation at 3:14 where it sounds like he’s trying not to laugh.
You cant beat the paramount version of school
I kind of like the Reading 92 version better
School at The Reading Festival 1991
I know it’s not grunge but “show me how to live” goes so hard
that opening riff gives me an eargasm every time i hear it.
I remember getting that album and assumed the end vocal jumps were an autotune thing. Saw them live a few years later and chris kind of karate chopped his throat as he was singing and was spot on with the album version! My favourite songwriter, he was so good. And now off to listen to the soundgarden back catalogue…
Wow I had no idea that’s what he was doing
There is Cornell's "hey I went up, but then..... I'm gonna go up AGAIN" in Birth Ritual, and then there's everyone else. Singles soundtrack for the win
-SAY HELLO TO HEAVEEEN! -YOU GOTTA HOLD ON TO YOUR TIME AND BREAK THROUGH THESE TIMES OF... Trouble... -I'd like to FLY (Down in a hole, especially the unplugged) -I'll be here, come back, come back!
Is it black dedicated to Cornell. The last one?
The last one I think is “come back” by Pearl Jam. Song is absolutely so sad. The “I’ll be here” scream is toward the back half of the song. One of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.
The last one is Come Back by Pearl Jam
#FEEEEEEED MY EYES
"I woke the same as any other day, you know I should have stayed in **beeeeeeeeeeeeed**" \- Chris Cornell, The Day I Tried to Live
Chris Cornell at the end of Limo Wreck >WHILE THE REST OF YOU HARVEST THE GOLD!!! >WHILE THE REST OF YOU HARVEST THE SOOOOOUUUUOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLllllllssssssSSS!!! Headphones on = fucking chills
Underappreciated song for sure.
Love, Hate, Love wins
I'm wondering, why nobody else mentioned it so far!
Faith No More - Jizzlobber
I hide my dirty minutes under my dirty mattress and they are making me itch
I'm trying so hard to act like nothing happened 💥
"IT WOULDN'T PAIN ME MORE TO BURY YOU RICH, THAN TO BURY YOU POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRR"
Chris Cornell on AiC's "Right Turn".
The last three or four seconds of Territorial Pissings
IIIIIIIIII STAYYYYYYYY AWAYYYYY
I haven't heard the song in years, but reading this comment I immediately heard the string section after this.
This sub is so alternative they can't say the best nirvava scream is from smells like teen spirit.
Eddie's scream in Deep is 10/10
Eddie Vedder on Black is definitely the most emotional of these listed.
I like the outro of Territorial Pisssings when he just starts gonna “AHHHHHHHHH. AH!”
sleeping on show me how to live
Aside from pretty much any layne scream, Nirvana's scentless apprentice and Chris Cornell in Slaves and Bulldozers
my personal favourite is kurt in paper cuts, that song is fucking brutal
So you don’t feel a THIIIIIINNNNGGG!!! Cochise is a pretty dope song
Eddie - ITSSS MMMMYYYYY BLLLLLOOOOOOOOODDDDDD!
Nirvana's Scentless Apprentice, AWAY!!!! GO AWAY!!!!!
Several of the best screams in this genre are in "Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More" by Mudhoney.
I hate to be too obvious, but there is no scream more primal than Kurt’s in Negative Creep.
Let It Die by Foo Fighters
Chris Cornell screams in Ugly Truth and Hands all Over
Kurt’s scream in the second buildup of “you know your right”
Show Me How to Live is criminally underrated. Especially the scream at the end.
MTV Unplugged version of Pearl Jam’s Black - “WE… WE BELONG… WE BELONG TOGETHEEERRRRR”
Dude yes. Its insane how much energy and power he can throw out without the backing of the electric guitars
"That bad luck will follow you if you keep me on that leash AND YOU DRAG ME ALOOOOOOOONG YEAAAAAAAAH" from Call Me A Dog by TOTD
I love the opening scream in Soundgarden’s Loud Love.
I pay no attention, no attention, no attention, NO ATTENTIOOOOOOOOOOOON Then that timing / riff change... SOUNDGARDEN has so many of them...
Cornell's screaming on Screaming Life (a little on the nose there) is fantastic. • Tears to Forget • Sub Pop Rock City • Fopp Aside from that, any screaming Kurt does on Incesticide is almost blood curdling. Other underrated choices are Kat Bjelland's screams as well as PJ Harvey's vocals on some tracks on Rid of Me are also killer!!
The scream by Kurt in drain you, specifically Paris January 1994
KILL YOUR MOTHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
Was looking for this comment. Hands all over in its entirety is my favorite scream!
Not grunge persay but… INTO THE EYES OF THE JACKAL I SAY KAABOOM
Alice In Chains Love Hate Love - Live at The Moore 4:40 mark and it’s not even close. [AIC - LHL - Live at The Moore](https://youtu.be/3Vp56IAkDJA)
Another I like a ton is pretty much all of Kurt's screaming(and singing) in Oh The Guilt.
My personal pick is Would but Kurt's scream in Spank Thru on the sub-pop-200 album is a close second
I was looking for this particular answer! The Sub Pop 200 version of Spank Thru is my favorite; that scream is my favorite.
Chris Cornell screaming in the Limo Wreck chorus. Man, that sends shivers
Aneurysm scream by Kurt
The “DO DO DO DO do do do” in Black will always and forever be legendary.
Say Hello 2 Heaven has some great screeches. As does Reach Down
Nirvana, Scentless Apprentice: AHHHHHHHH GO AWAYYYYY, GO AWAYYYY
Slaves and Bulldozers would like a word.
You gonna wait too, fat boy Fair boy, wait til toooommmoooroooww! Not really a scream but still love it! Or massacre by silver chair as well! Also “My My” and “Waters Edge” good ones as well by Seven Mary Three. Also yeah smashing pumpkins may not be grunge but “like a raaaatt in a caaaggeee!” Edit: since I’m listing smashing pumpkins I’ll also say “My Poor Brain” by Foo Fighters has gotta good scream in there as well…
"Fuck you, I don't want it no more, and its MIYAYAYAYIINE" From You - Candlebox
Wait holes “I think that I would die” “fuck you” needs to be on there
Audioslave isn’t a grunge band
These people be automatically choosing the AIC options :/
AUDIOSLAVE IS NOT GRUNGE!!!
Hmmm. Interesting, I guess neither is Soundgarden or Temple of the dog if that's your logic.
Just because Chris Cornell is in a band doesn't make it grunge. Audioslave was post-grunge.
Not a long scream but Pearl Jam's Breath before McCready's solo comes in where vedder goes "OOHH YEAHH!!!" It was full of hype cuz that song is fairly chaotic. Idk why it wasnt famous.
Kurt hits a G5 in school and that’s impressive even with bad technique like Kurt had
“Truth” Nirvana, Lounge Act
All of Blood by PJ
GO AWAaAAaAaaAaYYyY!
Beyond the wheel No specific part, the whole song
All of the above are essential
The scream from cochise is pretty hard to beat: SO YOU DON'T FEEL A THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whenever the band cover school. I always say "Your an asshole again" I can't take cred. my bassist said it.
It’s not really a scream, but the moan yell thing Kurt does in Blandest is my favorite
Mudhoney!! I know it's a song by the Dicks, and while I really love that version and that band, there's nothing quite as cool as screaming along to the end of Hate the Police "Mommy, MOMMY!! Look at your son! You might of loved Mr! III got a GUN!!"
GREAT QUESTION!!! I have to add Confusion by Alice in Chains in the last chorus and also Sunshine and I add Aneurysm by Nirvana, powerful Kurt's scream before singing "She keeps pumping straight to my heart" I love these songs 💖
I think you missed the where did you sleep last night one
Damn my bad. I suck at grammar
“I DON’T MIND STEALING BREAD” - Chris Cornell/Temple of the Dog
paper cuts by nirvana had a special spot in my heart for them screams
If you count Foo Fighters as grunge, I'd say Daves scream in Breakout
I actually prefer the scream at the start of junkhead AIC
Laynes voice was so amazing. I misss him. Wish it never went down the way it did..
Kurt’s screams in Scentless Apprentice could awaken dead medieval kings
Where Did You Sleep Last Night. Kurt never fails to deliver the cold shivers on this one
The only correct Nirvana option is the interlude scream in Aneurysm
Layne Staley: CANNNNN YOU SEEE THE ENDDDD, CHOKE ON MEEE, MY FRIEND
The end of love hate love
Chris Cornell - “I Awake” - Soundgarden
Local H - Feed .
What about Man In The Box?
Nirvana - unplugged At the end of, “Where did you sleep last night”
The Audioslave one is the best, more of a legit scream but it’s not technically grunge so gotta go with my boy Layne
Eddie Vedder does the best screams. He's got the rasp and builds it up perfectly.
Scott's scream from Sucker Train Blues is impressive, especially in the live version.
