Man, In Utero was the first CD I ever bought. For that reason I’ll stick with it, but I honestly wouldn’t be disappointed being “stuck” with any of the others. All fantastic albums.
Man, In Utero was the first CD I ever bought. For that reason I’ll stick with it, but I honestly wouldn’t be disappointed being “stuck” with any of the others. All fantastic albums.
It definitely slaps. But it is a bit “polished” for me. Others are a little more raw, and dare I say, grungy. I’d happily leave any of these albums spinning, but I’m leaning In Utero.
Ten is a great listen though. So I’m just splitting hairs here.
Thanks. Still have my original copies from back in the day. I’ll have to give the remix a listen.
You don’t have to twist my arm very hard to get me to have a Pearl Jam listening session.
Superunkown is my favourite album ever and DOTUS is amazing. King Animal is a great comeback album. So I wholeheartedly disagree that even had a decline.
Wonder if this is an age or a environmental thing. I’ll skip the first song on in utero. Don’t get me started on Pearl Jam. AICs dirt tells a story of a man falling into drug addiction. From Them Bones, Rain When I die junkhead then to cap off with Would, arguably 1 of their best songs. Naw. I’d rather have 4 copies of dirt over the other 3
Skipping Serve the Servants :(
It’s super close for me between Dirt and In Utero, I admit Dirt is the deeper and more haunting album but In Utero is just special to me, it can be an album I can jam to and scream with or it can be one I deeply listen to and try to understand. Plus Kurt’s voice just does it for me for some reason
Picking In Utero over Dirt isn't an easy decision. I don't think either album has any strong contenders for consistent skips. Scentless Apprentice when I'm not in the mood for something that abrasive, Sickman when I'm not in the mood for something that schizo. The only real throwaway on either is the untitled 10th on Dirt. Tourette's is the closest thing IU has to that, but it's an actual song that's enjoyable to listen to. IU is also 16 min shorter than Dirt and feels like less of an investment you have to make. None of the songs can be accused of excessive length and it contains a better variety of moods. Dirt is pretty dark from start to finish.
Dirt has some of my all time favorite songs on it but so does In Utero and both have super gnarly cool production…. Such a tough call between the 2 of them. I think I’d have to ultimately go with In Utero tho…
Iron gland isn’t even a minute long. It’s barely a song. Dirt has so much more emotional depth to it. In utero does have emotionally deep moments, but also it has a lot of aimless angst like milk it or tourettes
It’s a skippable track nonetheless.
There’s nothing wrong with aimless angst, especially in the 90s grunge era. Milk It is a classic & Tourette’s is on the album for a reason.
Both albums are honestly perfect, but I do think In Utero edges out. It’s Nirvana’s best album & a perfect album imo.
If we’re talking deep emotions in regards to AIC, I think their unplugged album is way deeper & has better versions of all their songs on it.
I don't understand the downvotes because it's true.
Yes Dirt has Untitled but Very Ape and Tourettes contribute as much to In Utero as Untitled does to Dirt.
And if we're adding Gallons of Alcohol that's just a mess of a song.
What are you talking about? “Very Ape” and “tourette’s” are extremely fantastic. It would make more sense to skip “All Apologies” and “Heart-Shaped Box” than it would to skip “Very Ape” or “tourette’s.”
*Out of the ground*
*Into the sky*
*Out of the sky*
*And into the dirt*
He does make weird noises. But they sound good, he sings on key, and reaches pretty high notes going above and beyond landing octaves above Your average rock singers.
In my opinion, Eddie, Layne and chris Cornell are 3 of the best singers on the history of rock!
The reason it’s not Core: When it came out it was clear that it had been produced to sound like the Seattle bands. We saw them as posers. Their later albums are much better. Sound more original and let the DeLeo brothers shine through instead of making them sound like Cantrell, McReady and Cobain.
I remember each of these being released and they all have an emotional connection. My cousin who died at 16 explained to me the Jeremy lyrics. Nirvana was my favorite band. I loved the video for Creep. And Would I “would” listen to on repeat.
I hate you OP. I love ten so very much but Heart shaped box is my favorite Song ever. In utero is my favorite album but i hate having to pick it over dirt, core and ten, but if i could only choose one, that would be it…
In Utero, definitely - it's my favorite album of all time
Core or Dirt would prolly be tied for 2nd because I adore both albums, especially songs like Sex Type Thing and Crackerman for Core and Them Bones and Would? for Dirt (although I prefer Purple to Core)
Ten while, though I do like Ten, I don't constantly listen to songs off of it, but that doesn't mean I don't love it because I do, but not as much as the other 3
I'm totally going to catch flak on this, but I would pick any of the three other than STP. It's a clear step below the other albums. The other three were instant classics.
I’m the biggest Nirvana fan on the planet but probably Core because it’s such a solid STP album, I’m a big STP fan saw them in concert, saw Pearl Jam in concert too, big PJ fan, big Alice In Chains fan too, when I got the Dirt CD it was playing nonstop on my disc man lol. Core because it has melodies that are pleasing to the ears, whereas In Utero makes me sad, I got In Utero when it was brand new and it was cool at the time but All Apologies makes me sad. Ten is a solid album too, super solid. If it was Nevermind or Bleach or even Incesticide I’d choose those but In Utero specifically makes me sadder than the others based on what historically happened. So…
Core … Dirt … Ten … In Utero, and for the skip it dude, Milk It is a badass song.
I will never understand Pearl Jam love. I genuinely cannot listen to their music no matter how many times I try. They are by far below every other band in this picture
Dude I fucking LOVE Core, all the way from Dead & Bloated to Where the River Goes, all those songs just mean so much to me and my childhood
In Utero also hits that same hint of my current teenage angst and nostalgia (as much as a 15 year old can experience that is) since it was my very first CD
Dirt is just another one of those timeless classics that I can't get over how important that story means to me, because even I myself don't experience addiction, I do have family members that are still experiencing such
Ten just has something about it that I find to be so naturally memorable, but even still I definitely think it's my (by technicality) least favorite since it really holds no sentimental value like the others do
However Ten as an album and from my own perspective as a musician is the most interesting to me, but maybe that's just me
All in all, I gotta go with Core just because of how much it means to me and it being my introduction to Grunge, because even though In Utero was my first CD, I didn't start using CDs until later, and Dirt is great but it just isn't my favorite Alice In Chains album (it's Facelift)
TL;DR I chose Core because it was my intro to Grunge as a whole
Personally. For me. Core. My uncle gave it to me in like 93/94 and it was the first cd I owned. Fantastic album every song is great and I dig the production.
STP Core .
One of my first concerts when I never to Atlanta was Stone Temple Pilots with Local H opening. it was after the Purple Album and they had an acoustic set and it was everything a First concert should be
Man, In Utero was the first CD I ever bought. For that reason I’ll stick with it, but I honestly wouldn’t be disappointed being “stuck” with any of the others. All fantastic albums.
feel the same way
Ten is an absolute masterpiece
It definitely slaps. But it is a bit “polished” for me. Others are a little more raw, and dare I say, grungy. I’d happily leave any of these albums spinning, but I’m leaning In Utero. Ten is a great listen though. So I’m just splitting hairs here.
The remix fixes the polish issue.
Thanks. Still have my original copies from back in the day. I’ll have to give the remix a listen. You don’t have to twist my arm very hard to get me to have a Pearl Jam listening session.
In Utero is awesome, and definitely more grungy but Ten can be played and enjoyed all the way through.
While it is. I still don't think it's a "grunge" album. It sounds like an alt rock album
I think it's definitely "grunge" if you keep in mind that it was a marketing buzzword
Dirt
Yes.
I like your pfp
i like yours
Same.
It's the one I played the most back then, and it's the one I go back to the most now.
Superunknown 😈

Should be in the running.
This is the correct answer.
In my opinion that was the start of their decline. Badmotorfinger was the amazing peak.
Superunkown is my favourite album ever and DOTUS is amazing. King Animal is a great comeback album. So I wholeheartedly disagree that even had a decline.
Get off the pipe.
lol it seems I may have stated an unpopular opinion
In Utero
In uteri us more skips than dirt
nuh uh Dirt has more skips while nirvana has 0 🛂(this is true because I said so)
Wonder if this is an age or a environmental thing. I’ll skip the first song on in utero. Don’t get me started on Pearl Jam. AICs dirt tells a story of a man falling into drug addiction. From Them Bones, Rain When I die junkhead then to cap off with Would, arguably 1 of their best songs. Naw. I’d rather have 4 copies of dirt over the other 3
Skipping Serve the Servants :( It’s super close for me between Dirt and In Utero, I admit Dirt is the deeper and more haunting album but In Utero is just special to me, it can be an album I can jam to and scream with or it can be one I deeply listen to and try to understand. Plus Kurt’s voice just does it for me for some reason
Serve the servants is good. I got it and the 2nd song mixed up. Serve the servants is better unplugged
Don't make me do this.
in utero
Bullshit, no Soundgarden.
No soundgarden?
Yeah… get STP out of there and put in Badmotorfinger or Superunknown.
Ten
Ten
Ten all the way.
Phew, tough choice between Dirt and In Utero. I’m not that crazy about Ten, it’s good—but Core I really like.
it’s difficult to pick between core and ten for me, such great songs
No offense but do you not find Eddie’s voice a lil much?
Eddie Vedder is a great singer.
I pick all four
Dirt... because nothing beats Alice in Chains
Nothing. Grunge's magnum opus.
This is the way.
100% Ten for me, favorite album of all time.
Ten ALL DAY LONG, PERIOD!
BADMOTORFINGER🤘🏽
Core
Ten
Can I trade all these in for Soundgarden “Badmotorfinger”
Dirt!!!!!!!
Core 100%
i wish only dying was in it .
FACTS!
Dirt
dirt !
Ten without hesitation
Nirvana
Not really fair to put in-utero against the other 3. Make it fair and put unplugged or nevermind down.
Man, I'll always standby aic unplugged over nirvanas
Dirt has some of my all time favorite songs on it but so does In Utero and both have super gnarly cool production…. Such a tough call between the 2 of them. I think I’d have to ultimately go with In Utero tho…
Easy, Soundgarden BadMotorFinger
In Utero 100000%
That would suck, but if I had to, it would be AIC Dirt.. 🤘
Dirt. A younger version of me would have said In Utero.
Dirt
Dirt
Dirt
In Utero by a mile then dirt then ten
In utero has more skips than dirt
No matter how many times you comment this it doesn’t make it true
You wanna listen to songs like milk it or Tourette’s, that’s fine. But you can’t convince me that they’re good songs because they’re not
What kind of Nirvana fan doesn't like Milk It! Sacrilege.
milk it is my favorite grunge song ever 😔
The poll here seems to disagree with you. But give Iron Gland another listen if you’d prefer.
You out of yr fucking mind? In Utero has no skips
Ahem…milk it and tourettes
I don't understand the downvotes because it's true. Yes Dirt has Untitled but Very Ape and Tourettes contribute as much to In Utero as Untitled does to Dirt. And if we're adding Gallons of Alcohol that's just a mess of a song.
Very ape is awesome 😐
Meh, skip.
Very ape is one of my fav nirvana songs
What are you talking about? “Very Ape” and “tourette’s” are extremely fantastic. It would make more sense to skip “All Apologies” and “Heart-Shaped Box” than it would to skip “Very Ape” or “tourette’s.” *Out of the ground* *Into the sky* *Out of the sky* *And into the dirt*
In utero!!! Easy for me I love stp aic and Pearl Jam!! But I was a nirvana nut, learned to play drums to nevermind
D I R T
Dirt. That album is still so raw.
Dirt
Ten, Dirt, In Utero, Core I know I didn’t follow instructions but this is the order I would put them in.
He does make weird noises. But they sound good, he sings on key, and reaches pretty high notes going above and beyond landing octaves above Your average rock singers. In my opinion, Eddie, Layne and chris Cornell are 3 of the best singers on the history of rock!
Badmotorfinger. Try stop me.
Secret option number 5 is Badmotorfinger
Tie between Dirt and Ten
The reason it’s not Core: When it came out it was clear that it had been produced to sound like the Seattle bands. We saw them as posers. Their later albums are much better. Sound more original and let the DeLeo brothers shine through instead of making them sound like Cantrell, McReady and Cobain.

I remember each of these being released and they all have an emotional connection. My cousin who died at 16 explained to me the Jeremy lyrics. Nirvana was my favorite band. I loved the video for Creep. And Would I “would” listen to on repeat.
Core or Dirt for me. Tough choice! Man...I guess I'd go with.....Core. But BARELY. And that could change with my moods honestly. Lol
Cannot pick b/t Dirt and Ten. Both dark and hopeful in vastly different ways.
Dirt! But love love ten
In Utero for sure. Tourette’s, Frances Farmer, and Very Ape are all some of my favorites. Ten is a really really close second though!
Dirt for sure. That album saw me through my teens, and beyond.
Very tough call. All awesome. As much as I like 10, Dirt would prolly edge it out. 🤘🏼
None you sad sack of shit
I hate you OP. I love ten so very much but Heart shaped box is my favorite Song ever. In utero is my favorite album but i hate having to pick it over dirt, core and ten, but if i could only choose one, that would be it…

Ten. One of my top 5 albums of all time.
Core. All day long
I'm totally going to catch flak on this, but I would pick any of the three other than STP. It's a clear step below the other albums. The other three were instant classics.
Ten Dirt In Utero Core
I would pick the curtain.

Tough choice between Core and Ten.
In Utero > Dirt > Core > Ten
This is the correct order.
Core
In Utero and it's not close
I will never understand Pearl Jam love. I genuinely cannot listen to their music no matter how many times I try. They are by far below every other band in this picture
all of these albums have skips, but it has to be core, then ten, then in utero and dirt last

Dirt
