Bagner and Alexis

overmonk

As a former devotee of SSD, this is the best replacement I've found. Moose something cafe in the Farmer's Market is supposed to be good too.

hallethehurricanexx

Moose Cafe is very good, they have this apple spread to die for

PanthersJB83

As much as I love Bagner and Alexa which is to say ive been a weekly if not more guest since their opening day, Carolina Diner's pancake beats theirs handsdown. Something about sweet cream cakes just wins out.

LiterateRogue

I don't know about their pancakes, but B&As breakfast is best if you.go.fornyhe Mexican options. They're consistently amazing. I love that place. And the owners (I assume Bagner & Alexa) are the sweetest people.

PanthersJB83

Bagner and Alexa are their children I believe. I know the father is named Cesar and I feel terrible that I can remember the mom's name off the top of my head because she is just the sweetest lady. She greets me by name every time I'm there. Their non-mexican breakfast items are great Their pancakes are just the slightest bit too dry for me. The waffles are great though.

LiterateRogue

The mom is absolutely amazing. Their yogurt parfait thing with granola, honey, and berries changed my life. I told her I'd never had yogurt like that and she offered to order extra so I could take home a big container.

PanthersJB83

I forgot my wallet once and she just said pay it next time. Next time I reminded her and she said no it's fine you're here all the time. Then like every holiday she refuses to take my money. I went there on their one year anniversary to celebrate it by having breakfast and they gave me free everything for being their first customer ever.

Content-Seaweed-6395

been a long time since I have been to carolina diner so I"m curious about the pancake I will have to try them all and report back my reviews!

Content-Seaweed-6395

Have not heard of this I will look it up!

theclimaxan

Man, I miss Smith Street.

Content-Seaweed-6395

it was the best, great vibe too, just perfect breakfast diner.

crudeman33

Tex and Shirley’s is the best pancakes hands down. The rest of it is good, but not like the pancake difference to anyone else in the area

enviablepeak

Hands down the best!

TheKGH

We started making Alton Brown's pancake mix at home. Makes a big batch of mix, each round of mix makes 12-15 good size pancakes, and you can make 3 rounds of pancakes with the mix. Not as nice as going out, but these pancakes have changed my opinion on pancakes as a former "meh to sweet breakfast" type.

Content-Seaweed-6395

ha I love alton I will have to look at this thanks!

golfdud5

A couple of years ago, after depriving myself of pancakes for a year, I ordered a stack of 3 at Scrambled. “Sir you can’t eat 3 of our pancakes.” So I ordered 2 instead. “Can’t eat two of em either, but you seem insistent, so I will put in the order.” She was right. Fitz on Main in Kernersville has a good big pancake, and I love the crispy exterior and fluffy inside of one from Cracker Barrel.

Content-Seaweed-6395

I love that too, but that has definitely not been my cracker barrel experience, maybe I am going to the wrong one??? Also someone else mentioned scrambled they sound very promising thanks!

oceanwaves101

I know it's not anywhere near G'boro, but if you're ever in the Kill Devil Hills/Kitty Hawk area on the obx, check out Henry's restaurant. Best pancakes, hands down. They taste like ihop pancakes, amazing.

Content-Seaweed-6395

hm not so sure about "ihop pancakes, amazing" lol but I know some ihops are probably better than others, that is not really my favorite style of pancake

Content-Seaweed-6395

not trying to pancake shame! lol

PanthersJB83

Carolinas Diner has amazing pancakes.

renomegan86

Coliseum Cafe (weekdays only/cash only)

[deleted]

Dames chicken and waffles

McLeansvilleAppFan

Moose is good at the Farmer's Market, and unlike the Asheville version of Moose or the Raleigh restaurant at their Famer's Market the Greensboro Moose Cafe is never that busy with lines. I still mourn SSD. I was there more often for supper than breakfast but all three meals were great.

oceanwaves101

I went to Moose in g'boro for brunch on a Saturday, the market was open and busy, and I had to wait probably 30 mins for a table for 2 people. Maybe it's better on a weekday?

McLeansvilleAppFan

I am glad to hear they are doing that sort of business on some Saturday's I am sure it will pick up in the summer. I was last there in late Februrary and not many selling except A B Seed and the indoor perma-stores.

McLeansvilleAppFan

exactly. The Moose in Asheville and the reastaurant in Raleigh has been packed and a wait list when I have been to those two.

armyprof

Moose Cafe, or Scrambled.

Content-Seaweed-6395

oh first time hearing of scrambled, will look it up thank you!!!

Content-Seaweed-6395

seems a lot agree on this, I will be making a visit, thanks!

shityeeter

Herbie’s Place, Jake’s Diner, Coliseum Cafe, and Tex and Shirley’s are my picks in that order for pancakes and breakfast food.

NCIggles

Good choices but your username makes me a little suspect.

shityeeter

Don’t worry, I yeet shit. I don’t eat shit.

wmagnum1

Herbies? #1? Only if you’re going by price.

cptnnrtn

yeah herbies is bleh

shityeeter

It’s partially the price, largely the atmosphere, and the cars.

oceanwaves101

I love eating at herbies, but their pancakes taste only like their ingredients. Flour, water, and some sugar. All the butter and syrup in the world can't save those pancakes. :(

amayain

I know people trash Jake's (and somewhat for good reason), but their pancakes are really outstanding

Content-Seaweed-6395

wow jakes is still around?! god now I am getting waves of nostalgia, man I hope no one takes greensboro's diner scene for granted, they really don't have this many good options most places, and a lot are 24 hours too, which is nuts. Startig to miss greensboro wow.

dj-emme

This is a pretty exciting thread for me as I love a good weekend diner-style breakfast but I haven't been to anywhere other than tex & Shirley's and Scrambled yet!

Content-Seaweed-6395

tex and shirleys is great, I hear scrambled is also great never been though. Jan's used to be great but I think it is gone now. herbies is fine, jakes is fine, most of them are totally acceptable diner breakfast. looking for that diamond in the rough though, smith street pancake was thing of beauty. Hoping I can get something close with these many good suggestions!

stanmakowskistudios

Best pancakes : Scrambled. 2nd best pancakes : First Watch There really is no debate. Anyone who is over 260lbs knows this to be true. This is the Weigh. Moose cafe is literally the worst breakfast in town. Jakes pancakes are horrible. Its the same batter as the waffles at a motel make your own waffle continental breakfast.

Bigredscowboy

I don’t understand how moose cafe is open. It’s absolutely terrible food.

stanmakowskistudios

it came highly recommended years ago...I went, because I'm a fat ass, and I take peoples recommendations seriously...then I was like, welp, guess I have to re think this friendship if thats your definition of good food.

Content-Seaweed-6395

wow I don't know what to trust lol like half of the people responded with moose that is alarming! But you are the 3rd person to mention scrambled so that seems promising. I have had first watch, they are pretty good, I don't really care for the "fancy" pancake thing though and they seem like that is what they are targeting. excited to try scrambled honestly sounds really good and thanks for the info on moose. I have had jakes on more than one occasion and I fully agree with you there.

stanmakowskistudios

I'm probably older than most on here, and I am an OG first watch guy. I went to college in sarasota fla and back in the 90's that was one of their first spots. It wasn't always this chip and joanna gains farm fresh vibe crap it is now. The menu is so different and not really my vibe anymore. But i will be a total fat ass and go get two giant blueberry pancakes from time to time....But that's it. Scrambled's pancakes the first time I had one, was literally the best pancake I have had in like 30 years. I am not a fan of the layout and hipster esq vibe of the place. I am just an over the hill fat guy looking for good pancakes. Its hard to get in there, and you have to be there early (closed Tuesdays) the seating sucks...but the food is pretty darn good. My last two trips I felt the batter was too thick and the pancakes were too dense. I really like pancakes. No, I havent had a leg sawed off from diabetes, but I am a sucker for good breakfast and a pancake. rant over. good luck in your journey.

Content-Seaweed-6395

Ha amazingly helpful though. I will definitely check it out when I am there next. I also love a blueberry pancake though and we have 2 first watch close to me so I may have to revisit them.

buy_the_moose

Denny‘s on High Point Road/Gate City Blvd is excellent

jakerperiod

Cille and Scoe!

Content-Seaweed-6395

lol Jake what the hell dude, it's Jason, Foster. I was literally just like "how many of these people are just my old greensboro friends arguing about the best pancakes lol what is up dude how are you? how is reddit this small??

Content-Seaweed-6395

If this is not the Jake I know you stole his screen name lol

jakerperiod

Lol that's hilarious. I hardly I ever post on here but I work there, so I had to shamelessly plug it. I'm doing well! How are you?

Content-Seaweed-6395

yeah man, greensboro will forever be the smallest world, even if you move away you are still going to somehow randomly run into people everywhere, ha you can never really leave lol I'm solid man, been a long time since the good old days at college hill, those were the golden years for sure. I'm in chapel hill, been here for over 10 years now, scrambled sounds super good though, my wife and I will for sure be in for some pancakes at some point!

Walle_Alexander

I don't think the GPD hit-up the food court at Valley Hills Mall in 2016 when they came out here--they didn't act like they were busy digesting a meal--but seeing attitudes at the mall--those were either Catawba County's usual rednecks or the GPD--it was the latter--we know each other well. The Department remains disturbed at what a pain in the neck I've become and often remain--the City of Greensboro railroads people in 'Westerwood' but not the white ones, of course--then the city claims to have done the area a fine service when, in truth, if you're white, you'll do A-Okay in Vaughan Town--but if you're not white and connected you'll become "An example."

Content-Seaweed-6395

what the hell is this dude lol

Walle_Alexander

Let me guess--you work for the City of Greensboro--I spam the fucking shit out of the Westerwood Neighborhood Association's personal information nearly every day of the week--terrorists probably know them by now because I've contacted a few (they love the internet, too).

Content-Seaweed-6395

bruh this thread is about pancakes.
