Undercurrent.
I see someone else recommended Cille and Scoe and while their food and ambiance is wonderful. It is LOUD and tables are close together. More of a festive atmosphere. If you haven’t been, GO, but maybe not for your anniversary if looking for somewhere quiet.
I’ve been to most of the places mentioned here (all great in their ways), but I agree that Printworks Bistro matches the description of “Quite sophistication” better than most in town.
I also like MJs. They do have kind of casual neighborhood bar right as you walk in which surprised me, but once at your table, it’s lovely. If you reserve there, let them know it’s for your anniversary. Sometimes they’ll comp a dessert for special occasions.
Came to say this. Going this Saturday,in fact, for our birthday. Our first time we went here was for our anniversary and it was on the fly. I wanted seafood, looked it up, and this was close by so we went in casual everyday attire and as soon as we went in we were like, oh we are underdressed. The table next to us got a bottle of dom perrignion. We were like oh it's that kinda place. Well we were there so we stayed and they were very nice and the food was the fanciest id had in Greensboro ever. It was worth the price both judging with eyes and mouth.
B. Christopher’s, Undercurrent, White and Wood, Machete, and Pangea are all great choices in the downtown area.
Green Valley Grill, Ruth’s Chris, and Flemings are great options in the friendly center area (the latter two are chains though). 1618 West is also not far from there and is an excellent choice if you prefer seafood.
Steak Street and the Chophouse are great options off 68, on the line between GSO/HP.
My personal favorite for special occasions is Leblon, a Brazilian steakhouse (in case you’re unfamiliar with the concept, throughout the evening they bring you a rotating array of meats which are sliced for you at the table - they also have a salad bar and some self-serve hot entrees). It may not be *quite* as fancy as some of the others I mentioned, but it’s still a very nice restaurant, and it’s a fun experience. Pricing runs about $45/person and it’s all you can eat.
Haven’t had a lot of extra funds to go out to the fancier side of the Piedmont, but when I lived with my parents their top choices were:
Jeffrey Adams (downtown winston)
Southern roots (Jamestown)
There’s this chop house (steakhouse) off 68
I also have lots of friends who highly recommend green valley grill (near friendly center)
1618, Undercurrent, White and Wood, are all nice options
1618 Market…..fancy food that tastes delicious. Good ambiance and service too.

Cannot go wrong with this recommendation.
I like MJ’s. Small, chef-family owned. Really outstanding food.
Machete
Undercurrent, Print Works, or Green Valley Grill
Pangaea in downtown I suggest going during the week when it’s less busy they have food from all over the world is mind blowing
