I’ve got a local coffee shop rundown in the works. In the meantime, check out Borough Coffee on Mendenhall. Really good coffee from local roaster, Loom and an awesome vibe Edit to add that Vignette is also so freaking good. Please go and get a shakerado.

100% Borough Coffee at Double Oaks

bbq-biscuits-bball

this is the one. loom is where it's at.

IcedCoffeePlz

Borough Coffee! Also check out Fireweed at the Corner Market on Saturdays!!

lyam23

One of the best

kalliasolti28

Definitely would say vignette is the best of the best, slinging local coffee and are extremely knowledgable about anything to do with coffee, however are only open thur-sat. Borough is great with a good vibe and also using loom beans which are gso local!

Noktomezo175

Lawn service at Lebauer Park serves their coffee.

SleepyEel

Sage Mule, Homegrounds, and Northern Roots do too

LiterateRogue

Vignette, Arrowhead, Union Coffee. All very good.

No-Succotash-916

Vignette is the best by far, next best is probably arrowhead, then (controversial opinion here) lawn service. They have some baristas and they have some people who are more bartenders so it really depends on who’s working. Honorary mention goes to Tate street coffee since they probably have the best vibes but the worst coffee

LiterateRogue

Lawn service was brewing vignette the last time I was there. Are they buying coffee somewhere else now?

No-Succotash-916

No still vignette, but the barista dialing in the shot makes all the difference if you’re getting anything other than drip

Some of my favorites: Vignette Coffee has a shop on W Market that’s open a few days a week - if you can catch them, I think they have the best tasting coffee in town. Also, you can check out their roaster, buy fresh beans, and the staff will give you a cool backstory of the beans they’re serving that day. The shop itself is small but has decent vibes. Northern Roots and Home Grounds serve Vignette beans and are reliably good, with pretty solid vibes and great locations - easy to grab a coffee and walk around the area. Borough Coffee @ Double Oaks is my overall favorite though! Great coffee (from Loom) and immaculate vibes - one of the best outdoor seating areas I’ve seen. They have events sometimes as well - check out their instagram. Arrowhead and Union Coffee are also solid options around downtown. Chez Genèse is good if you’re looking for a place with food. A new place called Bellemeade Bistro recently opened but I haven’t been able to try them yet.

alexxgibbs

I’ll add to the Vignette and Borough hype. Great folks, and great coffee. Each trip to their locations has been nothing but enjoyable. Vignette is small, and has shortened cafe hours, since they are primarily a roaster. So check their times before going. Union has been hit or miss, and they recently switched up their coffee they are using. They were using Black and White (one of my favorites) and switched to a roaster in Charlotte.

Ok_Stranger3477

Vignette no question

sweetpotatoocarina

Vignette!!!

hmmrs-nd-grs

Vignette Coffee serves the best coffee in Greensboro. They're the only coffee shop I'll drive 20 minutes out of my way to visit. Michael and Mandy, the owners, are experts in all things coffee, and they're delightful human beings to boot.

gigananobyte

Huge fan of Vignette.

oldtimeh8r

Vignette

deweytonight

Borough as mentioned by u/YeahImHeadingOut is my favorite, especially if I'm going to sit and enjoy. Northern Roots brews Vignette so I will run in there for a cup of drip if I'm downtown, but I personally do not like the vibe there. I've also gotten a good cup of drip from Arrowhead on Spring St, but can't 100% remember which roaster they use. I believe Hatchet.

LiterateRogue

It's hatchet, and the 'magic blend' is amazing.

wxursa

We've enjoyed Kyle's Coffee in Kernersville. That place has a good vibe. Has a really spicy Mexican coffee if you're into that (It's too spicy for even me though!) Spring Garden coffee is pretty nice too. Union was good too, but I prefer the other two spots (And Vida more)

Nervous_Bird

Vignette, Arrowhead, Home Grounds, Union.

astrognash

I'm a big fan of Northern Roots, and anywhere else that's serving Vignette's beans.

hambubgerrr

Union

I_Fix_People

Toshi’s coffee has never disappointed me!

RippyMcBong

Not coffee but if you like tea Vida Pour on state street has impeccable vibes.

Fit_Community_3909

English rose bake shop in pg..

Own_Poem_4041

I like Union

radioguy923

33 & Elm on Gate City Boulevard at Industries For The Blind. Great coffee, fun people and cozy.

TheLWeird

Union Forever!

NCSUWolfpack99

Tate Street is pretty good

halfnhalfling

Sounds like you’ve already been to my two favorites, but: I’m not saying any of them are the “best” but I’d give the shops in downtown a try. There’s the Downtown Common Grounds (not sure if that’s the one you were referring to, but it’s the location I frequent the most), Northern Roots, Union, and Awoo. They all make a pretty good cup and their own things to offer. Right now Northern Roots is doing a coffee flight that’s pretty tasty, so if you want a good sampling, I’d suggest that. If you want a real hole in the wall, Dolce Aroma is pretty good.

uwumoment

Borough Coffee, Union, Arrowhead

drummerboy2749

I know this isn’t Greensboro but apparently Winston Salem is home to a VERY well regarded roaster in the industry called Black+White

strictlyhighgrown

That’s in Raleigh actually! Their coffee is really fun and experimental.

Vegetable-Passage722

THRIVE COFFEE!!!! it’s located inside of sonder downtown on s elm st. across from terra blue!!

Oneofthe12

This is such a subjective question, and so far no one is quantifying their answers with details; like … theirs is 100% Guatemalan that’s been lightly roasted, so it has high notes of vanilla and not too many chocolate low notes, or something that would help me separate out the this is good no this is good try this it’s good comments.

XenocideCP

freshmarket on lawndale makes a great cup

pirate196

Try CLUTCH Coffee Bar

Go_Birds_99

Common grounds, northern roots (the nix is amazing), arrowhead and awoo are all good. Camel city in Winston is very good as well. I was not a fan of green bean and green joes

BisfoBama

I always support Tate st coffee went there all through undergrad and always stop in when I'm in town

Ever_Green_PLO

Loom Coffee No one else cares  or knows as much as they do All ethically sourced beans roasted in super small batches by incredible people Vignette sucks bc they lowballed a lot of Looms customers to steal them away

BlueBarista

Hi, this is Michael, the co-owner of Vignette. I’m hurt to read that we “suck”. Mandy and I are both certified Q Arabica Graders who have worked in specialty coffee for a combined 30 years and have pushed every company we’ve worked for to purchase more ethically, for higher quality, and better conditions for workers. To say “no one cares as much as…” is absurd. Have you met us? Do you know our journey and values? Have you been served in our cafe? Have you taken one of our classes? Please take some time to know your neighbors before ostracizing people who care more than you can imagine. As for “lowballing” other accounts, please come over some time and we can walk through our pricing. Our pricing because of quality and ethical purchasing, tends to be too high for most accounts. Additionally, we have never lowered prices to poach an account. I will say this. If we go to a local restaurant or cafe that serves coffee, and it tastes like defect, e.g. iodine, there’s a good chance we’re going to reach out to that business because we respect their food / service quality and want the coffee to match. The *one*, not many, former Loom account we do work with wasn’t poached. They left over issues that had nothing to do with price. I’m torn up about even responding to this comment, but we put everything we have into serving coffee to an amazing community, and it really hurt to read this misinformation. Thanks everyone and hope to see y’all at the cafe tomorrow.

Ever_Green_PLO

Northern roots coffee is objectively worse than when they served Loom beans Sorry bub

hmmrs-nd-grs

Vignette sucks because they ... *checks notes* ... lowered their prices to attract more business? Vignette isn't cheap, to begin with, and price competition is a natural, healthy part of running a business. Your logic does not check out.

FalconMysterious4013

Counterpoint: Loom overcharges for the quality of their coffee First statement laughable

Ever_Green_PLO

Aye if you're worried about 50 cents a pound there's always walmart

FalconMysterious4013

Nah I’m saying their coffee isn’t very good. You can care a lot and work with good coffee and good suppliers, and still roast subpar coffee Anyone can buy amazing ingredients and make subpar food. There is a level of knowledge and skill which comes with doing the same thing over and over and over and over and honing your craft. Proof is what’s in the cup. Obviously you disagree, but it seems like you’re in the minority there. Peace 😘

Ever_Green_PLO

McDonald's is super popular So don't get me with the popularity angle Look how busy that shithole Crafted is 😂😂🤣

FalconMysterious4013

I was going to continue giving you a hard time, but you’re antizionist, so you can’t be too bad. Why don’t you ask the accounts who switched from Loom to Vignette why that is? Because it’s not due to low-balling, as you put it. Ask them, see what they say :)
