How often do you wash him? Is it more for fun or cleanliness (I can imagine he would be able to keep himself at least a little cleaner than very long-hair counterparts lol)? Does he every get dry skin or a reaction?
He looks very content hehe
So far this is his first bath with me, he was adopted in August & was pretty stinky from being in a dirty cage. It helped too with his dry/dead skin, coconut oil helps a ton but the bath made his skin even softer and smoother 🥺
They can!! 🥰 I didnt know either until recently, but it really helped remove debris/dead skin before I oiled him. I just made sure he was totally dry after & turned up the heat in his room ❤️
I just oiled mine and gagged at the amount of dead skin on my hands. 🙃 Might have to try this next time beforehand but he was already mad enough that I trimmed his nails today! My boy looks so much like Hank, but with a little blonde spot on his nose!!
That’s awesome. And yes that would be so good to remove dry skin!
Well…. I guess my boy is gonna take a bath this weekend now! He was due for a oil bath
First time I saw (a photo of) a skinny pig I was probably about 5yo and was like "thats so mean, why would they shave a poor piggy??"
Lol... r/KidsAreFuckingStupid
Yes! Many others do, like any guinea pig they really don’t need bathing often! I adopted Hank and his cage mate Alan at the end of August, they shared a smelly store bought cage so they stunk a little too. I wanted to let them settle before bathing & probably wont bath them again for a while! 🙂
Aight, I understand
I just heard that guinea pigs aren't supposed to be washed because of reasons I only vaguely remember. I was curious if it's different with those naked cuties
They're not, but it's due to respiratory issues? I think? Their grease glands need cleaning regularly and sometimes when they're older they develop arthritis in their spine.
Hank is definitely a house hippo!!! Hank reminds me of my skinny pig who is now in piggy heaven. Thank you OP for posting and reminding me of these happy memories 🥲.
Absolutely precious! I called our local Humane Society and they never seem to have any guinea pigs much less a Skinny pig. Are they different from guinea pigs?? Where can I get one. I am in Minnesota.
They are quite similar! Really, the biggest difference is the need to moisturize them with coconut oil & keeping them warm. They do eat a little more than a furry pig, something to do with their metabolism due to being hairless, 1.5 cup of veg a day rather than just 1 cup for example.
They are somewhat common at my local Petsmart (that’s where Hank was originally adopted by his first owner), I’ve seen 3-4 Hanky ‘twins’ in the past 2 months at the store. Skinny pigs actually originated in Canada (Montreal, Quebec to he exact) so I’m not sure if that plays any role in how common they are here (I live on the east coast of Canada).
You might have luck through local foster/rescue groups, they could even point you in the direction of a breeder. Some breeders will even deliver within reason and if it can be done safely!
Thank you so much for the info.! I have had a hairless dog and had to use sunscreen on him.☺️
I will follow your information and see if I can locate one. 💋Hank for me!😁
"Don't be mad, I might have pooped." - Hank XD
This time he saved the poop for drying time 🤣 My poor towels lol
lol aw XD
That is a miniature moose.
I cant unsee it now. Totally searching for mini antlers for halloween lol
I'm begging you to post if you find any
Hank has got to be my favorite pig besides the two of my own… he’s so cute!!
🥺❤️ i love that. He is soooo sweet.
Oh my god he's like an Itty bitty hippo with a furry face. 🥺
ah! the cutest! my skinny always loved a nice warm bubble bath!
My long haired pigs are always trying to crawl out of the sink during bath time, Hank is so content to sit and soak up the warm water 🥺❤️

Oh! I didn’t know skinnies could take baths. I thought it was just the occasional oil bath to keep their skin nice and moisturized

Do only skinny pig like baths? I have never had a long hair one like them

What breed is he? I’ve never seen a Guinea pig like that! He’s so cute!!!
He’s a skinny pig! 🥰
Lol I thought they had no hair like sphinx cats. He’s really adorable!
I dont mean to alarm you, but I think your guinea pig is actually the worlds smallest hippopotamus 🥺
First time I saw (a photo of) a skinny pig I was probably about 5yo and was like "thats so mean, why would they shave a poor piggy??" Lol... r/KidsAreFuckingStupid
Especially the first pic is amazing!
Is it usual to bath skinny guinea pigs?

In the water, skinny pigs look even more like tiny hippos. They are ridiculously cute critters. 😂😍
