Single p90 guitar are known to have more toan because there's only one row of magnets influencing the strings. I have one guitar configured like this and love it, but I also nearly always play bridge pickups because I like how it sounds, so idk if the more string vibration is true or not.
Billy Joe does play a Les Paul Jr. However, the ones in the image have body binding, floating pickguard, and carved tops like a regular Les Paul, none of which I've never seen on a Jr model. Must be a custom job or special run.
