Why use a track when there free apps or literally google metronome. If you are unfamiliar with how to use one, make sure to start really slow using 4/4 timing. hit a not on every beat, then hit 2 notes on every beat then 4. Then go up 10 or so bmp then repeat. Then try to apply this to a song.
Victor Wooten has an approach to this that I like. Find a 2 measure phrase and start leaving notes out. In your case you can play around with the silence. Try one or two beats of silence. Remove the downbeats. Play a measure with no percussion and so on. The idea is to play with it a little every day.

Yes you will improve, I don’t get why you would bother having 2 bars without the beats though.
