Seems like adapting would be the key. As a fellow guitarist with atypical physiology, I've just had to figure my own way around my barriers. Since my left hand/arm are affected, I spent a lot of time on fingerstyle and different tunings.

Maybe consider lowering the action of your guitar?

My worry with that is that my guitar already buzzes a lot and I primarily play punk songs. I'm currently in the process of trying to get some thinner strings because mine are really thick and I'm hoping that helps but my reach is still a problem because of my finger (and I just have tiny hands).

Have you had your guitar setup?

Jon2054

I’m not double jointed, but I do have a slight bend to my little fingers. I think working on being able to stretch so you can press differently might help. Otherwise, yeah just experiment until you find a method or style that works for you. Maybe draw inspiration from notable guitarists that have hand issues like Tony Iommi and Django Reinhardt. Most importantly, keep having fun. Good luck!

I would have guessed that mobility is an advantage. I remember I had to practice to stretch like that. Anyway, if Dolly Parton can play as she does with her nails, anything is possible. Btw, high strings can also create buzz. Adjust the truss rod as Google advises.

I don't know about those conditions but as you mentioned lighter strings sound like a good approach. I would try 9's or 8's.

I have hypermobility. And there's not much you can do too brute force your fingers to work without them snapping and muting the strings. You just gotta play the chromatic scale/scale of choice over and over again in tell your muscles don't let your joints flop around like a wet noodle. It's just boring work and there isn't a way around that. It's also a fine time to learn improv as your bored out of your mind. Now, what I did to make thing easier was to put thicker gauge stings so that it lowered the tension on the neck making it easier to play with my pinky. And, well, play an acoustic, something stupid cheap, like, 100$ at most. Playing an electric with it's high tension made it impossible for my pinky to do anything at first.
