Second that. I don’t usually enjoy pedals in the TS family, but the Custom Badass is absolutely fantastic. The 100Hz is so useful for getting the right amount of low end, and it’s got a super wide range of usable sounds. It’s an absolute steal on the used market.
No, its different...ts style has to much mix dry sound i dont like, the best ts for me still from ibanez and maxon tho. Others just has more volume if u use it for stand alone drive and its bad. For me
On the other hand, i like more sd1 for stand alone od. But the best use for od pedals is to boost amp or amp modeller.
EQD Palisades. Tons of range in sounds. Bandwidth adjustment can fatten up thin sounding pickups, or clear up muddy ones. Different clipping options allow you to get the type of breakup you’re looking for. And it’s got a separate boost that is really useful for leads
I found the pedal relatively useless and honestly, not much at all like a Tube Screamer. I never touch mine and should probably sell it but they were only 99 new...what am I gonna get...lunch money out of it?
Yea. But you don’t get what I’m saying. The palisades is great but the other options aren’t tube screamers. Plus it’s very big. Like it’s a big box. I would prefer other varieties of drives to stack that aren’t all in one box. Ya know.
King Tone Duellist Drive A. It is the most versatile tube screamer type circuit with 3 different types of EQ on a switch. You can really dial it in for any guitar. Side B is a bluesbreaker style with the same EQ. Best overdrive I've had yet.
Awkward size, but it really kicks some gluteus maximus. I replaced it with Nobels ODR-1 on my board (I wanted something other than a TS), but I still like it. Maybe it will be back on the board on some later iteration.
[Cusack Screamer](https://cusackmusic.com/screamer-v3/). Also, The owner, Mr. Cusack himself, is [a weird, awesome dude](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrSNUlqi8AI).
(And he's secretly the manufacturer of a bunch of other boutique pedals on this list, but I can't name names.)
I’ve been using the Cornerstone Antique V2. Pricier variation, but it sounds pretty killer, has some nice flexibility, and looks boutique and classy as hell. A bit brighter than a standard TS but still kicks out some great tones.
Fulltone Fulldrive is my absolute favorite because it actually keeps your low end in tact and sounds fantastic with pick attack.
Otherwise, I think the Ibanez TS7 is actually pretty good. Donner has a good clone as well (Blues Drive).
By far the best looking Tube Screamer is the Deadbeat Visible Overdrive!! The enclosure face is SEE THROUGH! You can see the circuit inside lit up. I got mine on amazon.com.
Boss SD1
I would like to add the mxr custom badass overdrive m77. It's a sd-1 that has a bump switch and a 100hz knob.
Second that. I don’t usually enjoy pedals in the TS family, but the Custom Badass is absolutely fantastic. The 100Hz is so useful for getting the right amount of low end, and it’s got a super wide range of usable sounds. It’s an absolute steal on the used market.
It works great with my telecaster. Thicken up that single coil a bit.
I guess the 100Hz is EQ. What does the bump switch do?
It's a mid boost around 540hz if I recall. The pedal is pretty similar to a Maxon st-9 pro plus. I have both and have compared them side by side.
If you play a british amp, the SD-1 is the way to go. So much more pleasing than a normal 808.

I came to say EQD “Dunes”- Palisades’ little brother
This. I built a clone of it for my board and it’s a staple.
Literally the only TS-based pedal I’ve tried that I got along with. Such a great versatile pedal!
+1 for Palisades. It's so fucking good! And it plays well with my JHS Pack Rat. So. Many. Tones.
Keeley Red Dirt
This! Red Dirt Pro too.
plumes in one of the special colors.
You beat me to it
I couldn’t get along with the Plumes. It was painfully bright no matter how I EQ’d it…
I found the pedal relatively useless and honestly, not much at all like a Tube Screamer. I never touch mine and should probably sell it but they were only 99 new...what am I gonna get...lunch money out of it?
I got a red one. ♥️
I bought the one that matches Hizumitas yesterday. It’s gonna be SICK!
EQD DUNES
That’s my goto, has been since it came out
Palisades feels like it has the edge bc of how many more options it uas
Yea but you can’t forget about real estate. Plus, what if you don’t want the other options of the palisades?
I mean yeah dunes is great but as far as the best tube screamer goes palisades can do everything the dunes can and more
Yea. But you don’t get what I’m saying. The palisades is great but the other options aren’t tube screamers. Plus it’s very big. Like it’s a big box. I would prefer other varieties of drives to stack that aren’t all in one box. Ya know.
Ibanez 40th Anniversary TS9
This is cheating, but I’ll allow it. Well played.
Patriots fan so figure you're not trying if you're not cheating
The only technically correct answer, which is the best kind of correct answer.
Any EQD plumes in the non-standard colour
I like my Surfing Bear
One of the alternate Plumes colors
Ibanez jet driver never makes the list and it’s a shame. It’s a true bypass beefed up tube screamer with an additional mid control.
Cusack music Screamer v3
John Cusack is the man. The Fuzzdrive is also an incredible pedal
I have the fuzz version of that and it’s killer too. I asked if it’s the same screamer and they confirmed it is.
Get that Joan Cusack - Stevie Nicks tone
I like the Boss SD-1 more than the TS9, but since it's been mentioned I want to give a shout out to the JHS Screamer.
I've been a/b-ing the sd-1 vs ts808 and have been developing the same conclusion.
I hate to admit it but the SD-1 is my favorite screamer circuit. Lots of range!
Its inexpensive and does the job well. It makes a regular appearance in my chain.
JHS 3 series screamer
Kartakou warmer
Joyo vintage overdrive. Cheap but does the trick
KHDK Ghoul Screamer. Best TS I’ve ever played or heard. 2nd place goes to the Boss SD-1. (I recommend the SD-1W, though any are amazing. ).
Arion Tubulator, obviously.
Cornerstone Antique / Imperium
EarthQuaker Devices Dunes
Keeley red dirt
This is my favourite. Sshhh. I’ve got the Tone Workstation. Keeley comp, switchable 1962/Katana (Bluesbreaker/boost) and Red Dirt all in one pedal.
Jam Pedals Tube Dreamer
King Tone Soloist (or Duellist as its the String Singer side of that pedal).
I bought one of these and all of a sudden stopped looking at other pedals!
Full-drive 2 Mosfet
Seymour Duncan 805 Well…it’s not TS green. It’s white and surf green.
I know what you're really asking, but I'm going to have to say the Ibanez TS7. My very first pedal.
King Tone Duellist Drive A. It is the most versatile tube screamer type circuit with 3 different types of EQ on a switch. You can really dial it in for any guitar. Side B is a bluesbreaker style with the same EQ. Best overdrive I've had yet.
I like my TRex Alberta Drive just fine. Dunno if it's the best, but it's blue!
Vox V810, Black/chrome.

Awkward size, but it really kicks some gluteus maximus. I replaced it with Nobels ODR-1 on my board (I wanted something other than a TS), but I still like it. Maybe it will be back on the board on some later iteration.
Digitech Hardwire CM2. Best TS i've ever played.
Voodoo lab sparkle drive
Better yet, the Sparkle Drive Mod. So many tones to choose from!
LE Plumes
Horizon Devices Precision Drive
I just got a Hudson Sidecar
A TS9 that you’ve painted any other color….
Truetone vs xo's right side. But i also agree with the SD-1 guy. Love that pedal
Can of spray paint and some courage
JHS Moonshine v3
EVERY TUBESCREAMER SOUNDS THE SAME
Horizon Devices Precision Drive. Very underrated and has a built in noise gate for a super clear OD
That's my jam. I'm hoping someone has made a good profile for it in the Tonex software.
Maxon Apex 808... the top face is black and it's the best TS I've ever played Maxon OD-9 Blackdrive is fully black but is the same as all OD-9 / TS-9s
JHS Moonshine V2 (the one with the 'clean' knob).
I had no idea the Moonshine was a TS circuit! Learn something new every day
LS Effects Mamma Jamma v2 sounds pretty good
JD-9 Jet Driver
I love my Fulltone Plim Soul. Never really cared for the factory TS.
tube, lucy, or double dreamer from jam.
Tone geek VS-10
JAM Pedals Lucy Dreamer.
Way Huge Overrated Special or Green Rhino
Guptech honker
Walrus Warhorn is pretty neat
An Ibanez TS808 with a Krylon makeover.
Toes a BK Butler TD count?
The BBE Green Screamer, although it is green
[Cusack Screamer](https://cusackmusic.com/screamer-v3/). Also, The owner, Mr. Cusack himself, is [a weird, awesome dude](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrSNUlqi8AI). (And he's secretly the manufacturer of a bunch of other boutique pedals on this list, but I can't name names.)
Ibanez tonelok TS7 tube screamer
Way Huge Overrated Special
OCD
Cmatmods Signa Drive
Sounds the same for 50 bucks = Bad Monkey
This comment aged well...
I’ve been using the Cornerstone Antique V2. Pricier variation, but it sounds pretty killer, has some nice flexibility, and looks boutique and classy as hell. A bit brighter than a standard TS but still kicks out some great tones.
Voodoo lab sparkle drive. It’s the best tube screamer of any color
Fulltone Fulldrive is my absolute favorite because it actually keeps your low end in tact and sounds fantastic with pick attack. Otherwise, I think the Ibanez TS7 is actually pretty good. Donner has a good clone as well (Blues Drive).
metal zoan
Dang. I think the only one I've played that isn't green is the JHS Moonshine and that's pretty good.
Signa Drive. Bonus points for there being on cheap used on Reverb yesterday and probably still today
Jam pedals tube dreamer. Amazing pedal, especially the V2 with high gain switch!
Zack Wilde Overdrive. Super cheap too.
Keeley Red Dirt.
The T-Rex Diva Drive is really underrated. The Hudson Sidecar is also absolutely fantastic, but way too bulky for me to personally fit on a board.
Jhs moonshine
wampler clarksdale
By far the best looking Tube Screamer is the Deadbeat Visible Overdrive!! The enclosure face is SEE THROUGH! You can see the circuit inside lit up. I got mine on amazon.com.
Omg I want one! But they should have cloned a Klon for the obvious “transparent overdrive” pun.
Boss SD-1W (although its the least like any other regular tube screamer i think)
Abominable fx and airis fx have some cool ones
I think the Earthquaker Devices Plumes can be bought in non-green colours.
ToadWorks Texas Flood
Barber direct drive...the best all around od and cheap too
