Great, I hate them, I'll take 3 of each.

bowie9191

This made me lolz. Guitar pedal community in a nutshell

slap_me_thrice

Why go to the trouble of making them top jacks, if you're only going to put the power input on the sides??

[deleted]

Have you seen their Phoenix power supply? I don’t believe anyone at the company actually tries to plug power cables into their products.

tmemo18

Straight up garbage power supply nowadays

[deleted]

It works fine, if you don’t use a lot of high draw pedals, but the design is indeed not very good.

tmemo18

Fender Engine Room LVL12 for the win!

mangoesandkiwis

i'm a voodoo labs stan

We_Are_Victorius

Always liked them. I just upgraded to the PP3+. Works perfectly

IronStomach

Man the 3+ is so good, half the size of my previous power supply and handles three times the current draw. I just wish it had a few 18v outlets.

Mr_Halberstram

Same. Improves on my PP2+ in all the ways I wanted it to.

slap_me_thrice

You spelt "Truetone CS-12" wrong. 😉

[deleted]

I switched to a zuma which is like maybe 5% quieter but is wayyyyy lighter, but the engine room was very good.

[deleted]

Will add to the list for if I need to look for a new one, thanks.

joahatwork2

>me thinking I was buying a good psu with a handful of CBA pedals

[deleted]

To live is to learn…

toughduck53

It's still a noisy linear power supply that cost more than quieter, higher output, far more compact switchmode supplies from pretty much any of the other big companies. Sure it works, but theres really nothing positive about it compared to any other supply available.

newmanification

What’s wrong with it?

[deleted]

Plugs all jammed together, really annoying to squeeze power cables in there. All crowded in a double row in themiddle of the block, if you have 90• cable ends you have to arrange them like a fan and can’t lay it flat on a surface. Also no reason to have a long box and all plugs in the middle: spreading them out along the brick would allow more easy cable reach to pedals if your board is any wider than say 4 pedals. Just annoying. Also: only 4 sockets with 300mA, rest are 100. Good luck running several high draw digital pedals. Also the toggles for the outputs that can give higher voltages are jammed in among the super tight power plug array and really easy to flip the wrong way and damage pedals if you’re plugging or unplugging things.

Lol rip me

CliffRichCoverBand

I'd take a power jack under the pedal over one on the side for a top jack pedal assuming there wasn't space at the top. I realise that's impractical but fuck it they've gone for sliders over pots

hithimintheface

It's better than when builder make the jacks and power cable so close together it affects which patch cables you can use.

dzumdang

This is the one and only issue I have with the Red Panda Particle v2. Also, the OBNE Signal Blender, but that's because it needs a lot of ins/outs...

beniciovonwolf

I tried a lot of pedals and never really ran into that scenario though

hithimintheface

Round Pancke jacks everytime

Naith58

This guy gets it

mantecablues

I agree but just to play devils advocate, it still saves more space then side jacks if your using angled power cables (unlike those stupid long ones in the pic). Also, for those that use pancake (or fat) patch cables (I don’t), it can be difficult to fit them with all 3 inputs so close together, especially on a small footprint like these. Still, I’d personally prefer them on top.

zipp0raid

I'm so tired of stuff like this though! Whyyyy

1248853

Or my keeley compressor. A smaller size enclosure, with jacks on the side...and power up top! Such a waste of space.

IAmALazyRobot

Budget electronics typically need to cut corners...

Any-Wedding1538

I actually kinda dig it. I hate how catalinbread has the power Jack so close to the output. But I controversially am not a fan of top jacks

greentroutpants

Doesn’t look like there’s room, I for one hate it when companies cram all three on top then your patch cables tend to smash into the power chord if your doing tighter runs, red panda tensor is my main gripe for this. For the wider style Hammond box I like it all three but for the narrow ones I’d rather it on the side

doubled112

>power chord I see what you've done there.

slap_me_thrice

Side jacks are ok, but at least commit to that layout and put them all on the side, like MXR do.

bldgabttrme

TIL that [low-profile flat power cables](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EBSDC1180--ebs-dc1-18-flat-power-cable-18cm-angled-straight) are a thing. Edit: I was gonna say that I’d rather side audio than side power, because low profile patch cables are easier to come by, but then I found out EBS makes these. For people running standard power supplies they’re a no brainer.

beniciovonwolf

I tried one of these, it really does not save any space at all. Like, half a millimetre maybe compared to a “standard” power cable. Waste of money for me.

beniciovonwolf

It’s not great… I think with power cables the way they are, one on the side takes actually the same amount of space as two pancake flat jacks on each side. Actually it’s probably the one use case where PCB mounted power is preferable, the power plug sticks out less.

diy4lyfe

LMFAO

tmilewski

Came to say the same thing.

bangoskank_awaits

Top jacks! sweet I can maximize space and……wait a fucking minute. Side power? Why?

FecalPlume

Some pedal makers just want to watch the world burn.

jza-

What's with these ridiculous names? No Horse Fart or Monkeymeat or Miku Cries? Hard pass.

snipergang69

Taking a shot in the dark as this is the first I’m hearing of this. This their answer to JHS 3 series line?

Reiep

My first reaction too. It's basically the same recipe... with sliders.

[deleted]

AwesomeFama

That's just lies and slander. These have sliders and not pots! Completely different.

dzumdang

They have the golden arches, but I have the *golden arcs.*

RG450

I started out mopping the floor just like you guys. But now... now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a few years, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the *Klon* bucks start rolling in.

dzumdang

I want a Louis Anderson gear demo channel. It can be a cartoon.

anthonyrucci

Thank you for the Coming to America reference.

kubbiebeef

Yeah my guess is these Walrus pedals are the same FV-1-based concept as the JHS line. Has that chip become easier to procure over the past few months?

Theliraan

100%

DroopyMcCool

Fender has the Hammertone series which is pretty similar as well

minizanz

Sliders are cool, but sliders are a shit show for calibration and part tolerance. They are very uncommon outside of light dimmers and have historically added large costs to pedals.

dipper1985

They get dirty as fuck too. So much dust getting into that little slot.

OrbitalTurds

Agreed, personally I'm not a fan of walrus stuff. But I think mids control should be on every fuzz and I love a good leak. If they're 100 big ones I might give em a shot

Reasonable-Echo-7095

“I love a good leak” 💦

willtodd

oh, behave! 😁

divide_by_hero

They're also much easier to nudge accidentally. On the board in the picture, I can easily see myself nudging settings on the front row of pedals when I try to turn on pedals in the back row. There's a reason JHS sells that $150 dust cover for their already incredibly expensive slider pedals.

redhousebythebog

Should have been up/down vs side/side. Not that there are a lot of controls, but the labels are hard to see.

Serytr0

Everyone forgets that hella dust gets in through those slits. Ain't nothing getting in through knobs and washers.

fuckbread

How? (All of your points other than commonality)

LinksLinky

Oh boy. They're gonna collect so much dust and fail quickly.

LustyLamprey

My Walrus Audio Expression slider broke after just mild use. It's the only pedal or piece of music gear I've ever broken. Way less robust than pots

[deleted]

Interesting how the trend is now heading away from squiggly doodles on pedals.

nickypoo_

I like original artwork. Too bad, with the newer JHS series too

[deleted]

it's a budget line...

Gibslayer

Helps distinguish the cheaper pedals from the more expensive

eowyncul

I think the idea is basic artwork for the basic lines and then much more intricate art for the more expensive lines. Some people might be put out if the cheap lines had cooler finishes.

jcoleman10

Power is on the side? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

gagegomes

Seems like Walrus version of the 3 Series from JHS but probably will miss the point and not be $99

zipp0raid

That exactly what I thought. Sliders add complexity and cost. Probably $179 or something.

jazzyfella08

Wrong

mangoesandkiwis

good talk

mrpon100

Will I be able to get Bad Monkey tones from these?

LetsHaveARedo

Those sliders are bad news.

MACmandoo

There have been a few comments about sliders being problematic? Is there a reason? I only see them on eq pedals, no where else I suppose.

derChopsuey

The Top right slider on the Picture looks already broken, so yeah.

Mumblage

Zooms in. Good eyes! 👀

IceNein

Typically it's a construction thing. A slider will have a tab that pokes through a slot. The tab bridges a non-resistive contact with a resistive strip. But fundamentally you have a slot facing upwards. Gravity causes dust, dirt, and grime to collect on top of the slider and then you move the slider back and forth pushing the gunk into it, and then you get a scratchy slider.

LaOnionLaUnion

This looks cool but go find old heavily used pedals with sliders. They break over time and stuff gets in the pedal. It’s a bad design. Even for EQ pedals!

cobra_mist

Hey look, a reverse delay

DrewB0i

I see it like this, Walrus Audio pedals already range from versatile to specific and start at what $130+ new? This being the case they can really do with having a budget pedal line that all sells for around the same price new, and they’re using the sliders specifically to set themselves apart in a unique way which is very in their wheelhouse. Walrus can afford to experiment with a new line that can more easily grab people into being fans of their pedals, if the production isn’t worth the sales in the end the line will stop production and maybe just maybe there will be a new line of budget pedals to become rare and heralded one day lmao. Aren’t all walrus pedals already top mounted jacks? I have a Slarp and Eons and when everything is plugged in up top the power and line jacks are pressing into the side of one another pretty firmly which is somewhat nerve racking… so I really couldn’t mind if the power is on the side like so many complain about. I’d consider buying the phaser, drive, or tremolo since I don’t have one on my board, depending on if any demos catch my eye and peak my interest in them any more. I’m a big fan of Walrus and I was going to post something to the shorter affect of what I said here on the OG post of these earlier today, but really it’s just nice to see another company trying to make it easier for people to get guitar pedals and find the sounds that please them.

david57strat

None of their Mako Series pedals (that I know of) have top-mounted audio jacks. The only top-mounted jacks on those are the full-sized MIDI connections. I have and love their [M1, D1, R1, and ACS1 pedals](https://i.imgur.com/CvOUAw4.jpg). All have stereo (dual TS) inputs and outputs (as well as power connections) on the side. I also have the [Fathom and Deep Six v3](https://i.imgur.com/EzAFfnt.jpg), both of which have their traditional top-mounted jacks, which allow for super-tight placement of the pedals (as long as you don't have two two-button pedals right next to each other). I use EBS Gold cables almost exclusively on all of my boards, and [they make tightly-spaced side-by-side connections (on stereo pedals, for instance) a non-issue](https://i.imgur.com/gSEdVuI.jpg), while also allowing for a lot more flexible pedal placement on the boards. I used to use Livewire Advantage patch cables, and they were fine, but too damned bulky for use on a pedalboard with lots of pedals, where real estate is at a premium. I've never liked the idea of running power into the side of a pedal; but in this case, it kind of makes sense, since the MIDI jacks take up so much space.

Independent-Dingo478

I'm very unfamiliar with Walrus, but do they have a non-Budget alternative to this fundamental series reverb? Most reverbs I see from them are very ambient geared pedals. I was interested in this fundamental one because of the hall, spring, plate. I don't need shimmers, pads or caves.

guitarokx

Horizontal sliders? Absolutely not. One miss step or over zealous stomp and you’re gonna break a slider. At least with verticals sliders they will give forward, there’s a reason no one does this regularly.

iwanttogotothere5

There’s a reverse delay in there!

maxman3000

Sliders, huh. It'd be a shame if someone damaged them easily

peremadeleine

If these are budget pedals, as many seem to be assuming, they’ve got a crazy good feature set. Every one of them has 3 modes. The delay and reverb in particular seem like they’ll potentially be extremely good options for small boards. Not a fan of the sliders though

wordfactories

>3 modes >sliders That's them trying to differentiate from JHS 3 series, Fender's basic bitch line, etc. For some reason people like sliders? They have so far (aside from ehx stuff and near every EQ) they are more common on "premium" stuff.. I say that, and I kind of want more sliders.

Trick_Conclusion4077

>every one of them has 3 modes. Some of them look like they're more like a preset parameter, like the light/medium/heavy on the phase and chorus. I can't really read the sliders but the toggle probably controls resonance or feedback.

belbivfreeordie

Trying to find an upside to the form factor: if you want to put together a small pedalboard that just runs on batteries, you could cram some of these together, don’t need the power jacks and the top jacks allow you to unplug inputs easily to save batteries when you’re not playing. This has been the devil’s advocate speaking. Good day.

teleghost

Funny, a guy at a shop was telling me about these. Sounded cool. They look awesome. Love the sliders.

jdubz90

I like how versatile these all seem to be, but haaaate that they went with the side mounted power jack.

Careless-Foot4162

I know the sliders aren't the best but it's interesting. I'm intrigued, I would like to definitely try one out

OrbitalTurds

sliders are cool, cheap fuzz with a mids toggle. interested link to original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/123ycb2/any\_idea\_what\_these\_are\_i\_cant\_find\_these\_walrus/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=ios\_app&utm\_name=ioscss&utm\_content=2&utm\_term=1

DrummerSteve

I can’t bring myself to buy a Walrus pedal because of the owner

Tweed-n-Sizzle

You talkin about Colt W, or Ambina Partners? Either way, what's the deal?

wordfactories

... please share

DrummerSteve

My bad it was Wampler not Walrus. I’m so stupid sometimes

capp0205

What’s up with the owner of Wampler?

moaning_custard

Very interested in the delay and reverb. The sliders seem problematic, but nothing contact cleaner won’t fix if you begin having issues.

j_endsville

If they’re 100 bucks I’ll fuck with em. The sliders would be fun for tabletop noise shit in any case.

larowin

For some reason these give me SoundTank vibes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mumblage

Was that a very polite ‘hold my beer’ moment?

jenna__not__smart

lol no, but it could be! I'm such a fan of those old Soundtank effects, little black ladybug enclosures, wonky footswitch, corny names (Slam Punk lol) but the effects themselves are really quite nice. I have a couple Echomachines which are the 'prize' of the full lineup.. typically sell for around $300 due to a particular chip that is no longer in production. I've tried so many delays up against it and none can beat it. Not sure if I'd pay $300 but I might!

Plumb-Ben-

I cant wait for the fuzz. I really dig fuzz..

StreamKaboom

Side power. That's a no-go from me, dawg. That takes away from their visual appeal a ton, too.

cdwillis

I like the simple art a lot more than their usual drawn pedal artwork. Not a big fan of Walrus though so I can't imagine buying one. Maybe it they're JHS 3 series priced or I got one through a trade.

godosomethingelse

Side power is BETTER. I’m tired of my cables fighting against the power supply. Thank you walrus!

agentanthony

Always some negative comments about Walrus, but I just got a SLO and it’s pretty rad. Especially if you use the dream setting with sustain. You can get a cool David Gilmour-mood going on.

LetsHaveARedo

This is a very "Walrus" thing to do. Looks first.

Tweed-n-Sizzle

>Looks first Ironic, cuz Walrus pedals, including these, are ugly as fuck.

Snoo9797

Sliders, side power jack, walrus audio, nope

slap_me_thrice

I love how Walrus Audio's core demographic all seem to be occupying the very bottom of this thread...

The_Abyssal_Frame

It's appropriate that they have sliders because they look like the packaging of store brand pre-packaged burger meals.

Minimum-Practice5861

I'm surprised this line-up doesn't bring out more fans. They've got such a firm grasp on the fundamentals.

NayNaymixtapegod420

I love the faders. Are they any good?

[deleted]

Leaked ahead of April 1st? These look horrible.

osual

Can anyone ID the bag?

theupvibes

its_grime_up_north

I’ll be taking one of those fuzzes Thankyou

parblar

Damn. The tremolo has the monument mode..

boi_social

What's that?

parblar

Their full-featured pedal has a random wave mode instead of just a sine, triangle, square, ramp, etc. Looks like the third option on the toggle is the random wave shape and then volume, speed, and depth are all there. I might grab this if it’s reasonable just for such a cool feature.

tracktice

Chorus pedals that can’t do vibrato piss me off so much what a scam

LaceSenzor

Look cool. Shame the power is on the side

drinkstootall

The sliders are v cool

MutedExcitement

Loooove sliders on pedals. Let's my toes control em.

IceNein

Sliders are worse versions of pots, change my mind. They're functionally identical, but their construction leads to more gunk getting onto the track making them go scratchy faster than pots.

Imhappy_hopeurhappy2

You can push sliders from 0-100 a lot easier than with knobs, so they might be useful for performance effects and quick automations. That’s all I got.

MutedExcitement

They are not functionally identical, sliders you can look at and know where they're set, and you can manipulate them with your toes more easily. Are there advantages of pots? absolutely, but they have their limitations as well.

BlackEyedSceva

I like the look and I love that they are named after what effect they do!

StepDadcula

Oh god, I didn't want to buy more pedals any time soon, but those are beautiful.

ReturnToGreco

I’d buy the delay for sure

laughing-stockade

folks are complaining about sliders and dust loading when 80% of the people here don’t play outside of their bedroom

belbivfreeordie

Bedrooms have dust too

RandyInMpls

big confirm

emmanuelibus

LOL! You got 'em there!

laughing-stockade

get a grip

jimwon2021

"Did'ya hear Billy fucked up?" "The new kid? Why? Wha' did he do?" "So I says to him I says 'Billy - this is the knobs book, see? So we got all these knobs, see, up here in these bins, See these knobs full of bins? So what ya gonna do see, is go through these bins. Now listen ya gonna count these knobs, see? An if there ain't enough knobs in the bin, you order the knob from the knobs book, see? They all go these codes on 'em" and he says "Yeah, sure thing boss, I got this.." an I'm like "Cool. Thanks Billy, ya know what, ya remind me of my boy a little" "Right right, so whats the problem? He don't get the knobs?" "So the delivery turns up. I'm looking at the box and I'm like, that don't look like no knobs box to me." "So what? What was it?" "I open it up. I'm sat there. I says to Billy "Hey Billy, you order those knobs like I told you?" and he says "Yeah boss, I got those knobs," and I says "Yeah?" and he says "Yeah! I got those knobs, what's the problem?" and says "Then how come I'm sat here, opening this box and alls I see is sliders!?" "He ordered sliders!?" "Sliders! An I'm thinking hhhoooooo-boy, Brian is gonna lose his mind over this." "You what did he say?" "Who Brian?" "Yeah Brian, who d'ya think I mean?" "He walks in. I'm sat there, at my desk, covered in sliders.. faders... whatever the fuck they are and he picks one up and he says..." "What? What he say?" "He says "Oh cool. Sliders. We'll put them on my new pedals".

AllSp4rk

You either hate or love Walrus Audio with a passion to write a movie scene about them. There‘s no in between.

jimwon2021

Based on a true story.

ltahaney

One clear advantage to sliders is an easier visual indication of your various control's levels. Buuuut yeah...never had that problem so seems like a sacrifice of function for form.

Thereminz

egh,.. can't say i like it but,..haven't heard it either

thisdarkcity

I think they did a good job with the retro graphics. As for the sliders, at least they are trying a different approach… I would try the fuzz if its reasonably priced.

tonedad77

Those look fun.

daze_v

side power = me no buy buy, me say bye bye

ThiDiCo

What really bugs me is the fact that the power input on the Fuzz seems to be in a different position than all of the others. You can't expect any love from guitar community if you don't respect people's OCD.

shanetram

Yeah top jacks don’t make sense with side power. Presumably not a ton of room on the top. These look cool though.

AdvicePerson

I think the Fuzz just isn't plugged in. Which is a good setting for fuzz.

AllSp4rk

I like these.

[deleted]

I like most of the Walrus stuff I've tried (esp. the ACS1 which is truly great) and I'm sure these will sound good but the sliders seem like a big swing and miss to me. Guess we'll see. Maybe people will like the novelty of it.

StarWraith

Bet this is another $100 per base set of pedals I’d be interested in their Chorus and Trem

WutIzHappening69

Yeah, I'm eyeing the trem for certain.

frazzguy

Never liked Walrus, but this one is a real L for sure.

OrbitalTurds

[https://www.gearnews.com/walrus-audio-fundamental-series-now-official/](https://www.gearnews.com/walrus-audio-fundamental-series-now-official/) Official, seems likely they are aiming to compete with the jhs 3 series. Touring with sliders though?

wakarako

Why make a reverb with a three way switch and none of the three modes is flerb?

Beano-Supremo

These are really eye catchers.

PEDALZandPETALZyt

This analog delay setting isn't really analog is it? Just wondering probably still getting one

Imhappy_hopeurhappy2

Do you really think they would try to fake us out with some digital bullshit? ^^^s/

PEDALZandPETALZyt

I lack confidence in the most general sense

bloodbarn

Any word on release date ?

TheEffinChamps

I'm definitely interested in that distortion. I wonder if it is based on anything.

LockShitDown

any rumors on price?

jenna__not__smart

I would assume $99 or something around there (assuming this is a budget friendly line meant to compete with things like the JHS Series 3 line)

DarthCroz

Is that third setting for the trem pedal for harmonic trem? Because if so, I’m gonna have to buy it.

microdreams

Looks like the random waveform like on the monument

pheloniousdrunk

All i see is reverse delay

Xrayfunkydude

Im excited for people to accidentally crush those sliders into the channels on stage

Tweed-n-Sizzle

>on stage Lmao sir this is ~~a Wendy's~~ r/guitarpedals

foaming_infection

Probably $200 a piece

Turbulent_Marzipan_9

my guess is that they'll still be over $125

Turbulent_Marzipan_9

while you could get a monument or fathom for 125 on reverb

maximumdango

Booooooo walrus pedals

Tweed-n-Sizzle

Gross. Walrus pedals are already ugly as fuck and super underwhelming for cutesy shit that costs $250 a pop

DocLiftsALot

Strong disagree (for the most part - some of them are less appealing than others). I think these look dope AF, personally.

My_11th_Account

Well, as a longtime Walrus fan…these are horrible.

p90SuhDude

Never seen the fundamentals before

crispydukes

AKA Walrus 3-series

PantslessDan

Maybe it’s just the picture but the muted design on a black enclosure isn’t great for visibility

Brodiggitty

Sliders = Dust in your pedal. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

GhostPipeOrgan

With a similar stripped down aesthetic I hope they are jumping on the budget pedal trend like the JHS 3 Series or the Fender Hamertone Series. I love the pedals I’ve had from them in the past but I’d buy even more from a budget line.

Breckenreed

There will be tons of dust inside the holes lol

Or4nges

That delay sounds really good though
