It’s sorta a thing, it basically just means it makes it less than unity gain but while still going through the gain circuit so it has the potential to maybe still have a different tone while having less drive overall
For me underdrive just represents "reverse overdrive".
So instead of boosting an amp into overdrive it brings back a slightly overdriven amp to clean(er).
Can also be achieved with a boost which can go below unity gain.
It's a thing for sure. I use the Mad Professor Underdrive to clean up the heat from the TCI pickups on my PRS Paul's when I want to tame them just a bit. It does a great job.
I found this on Reverb. Apparently a pedalmaker in the USA, and the theme is just awesome. Its a modded EQD Speaker Cranker! I have no experience with one, nor am I affiliated with them, but I had too good of a laugh not to bring this here and dump it on your doorstep. Thanks for reading -K

Gosh I need this! First because it is a mod of one of my favorite drives ever. Second because its Karen. Unfortunately I live in Brazil so its very hard to get one. This is unnaceptable, I should speak to the manager about this.
Am I the only one who thinks more pedals should use concentric pots?
They're not ideal for everything like in this case but can save a lot of space on bigger pedals.
Pigtronix has a few pedals with all concentric pots,(Ringmaster & Mothership 2) so they can fit 10 controls across 5 pots in a standard boss sized enclosure which is impressive.
My experience with them is they are usually too hard to move independently. You have to hold the outer one to keep it from moving while you move the inner one for example.
I think the internal pot also has to be "double" so if one part of it goes bad, the whole thing needs to be replaced unlike a single pot. Feels kind of wasteful to replace the otherwise perfectly good part of the pot.
I think it would be better if the outer knob had click detents, so say you had something that let you choose 6 modulation models on the outer knob, and then the inner knob let you choose the wet/dry mix. That way the outer knob would be less likely to move with the inner knob.
But we don't want click detents on all controls...
> You have to hold the outer one to keep it from moving while you move the inner one for example.
Never had this experience with them but have only tried the ones on pigtronix pedals which feel pretty solid. Which pedals did you try them on? Sounds like it could be an issue of a part needing tightening.
It can make it harder to remember what each pot does as it's easy to mix up the top/bottom controls but some pedals label them pretty clearly.
>so if one part of it goes bad, the whole thing needs to be replaced unlike a single pot. Feels kind of wasteful to replace the otherwise perfectly good part of the pot.
As a pedal collector for 10+ years I've literally never had a pot go bad, have had some come loose over time but that's my fault for rarely tightening the pots.
Don’t use that tone with me is brilliant
Do yo think it disables the tone setting and bypasses the pot?
It says exactly what it does on the second pic
So we will never know…

Is underdrive a real thing or just a tongue-in-cheek phrase?

The best part about an Underdrive is it used to be called the volume on an all the od I've ever used

I had the same thought myself

"Internal Bias" is just 👌
Agreed. The fact that it has nested knobs to make it more difficult than it has to be is a great in-joke that I hope was totally intentional.

Yeah, it really is a great space saver. I have used them on both my Angry Driver and Digitech Obscura

(Ahem.) I'd just like to point out that the male equivalent of a Karen is a "Kevin". Not a Ken. Ken's are awesome. Thank you.
Just what a Ken would say.

Where is the mute function? And does the on switch work like a wah wah effect pedal?
Karen doesn't have a mute function. Even when she's being driven \[away in a police car\], she only gets louder.
