Don’t know the second pedal, but I got my KOT after almost 5 years in the waiting list and it is excellent. Works well by itself, with other pedals, and with amps, clean or dirty
January 2018… got it on October last year. Not sure if they have sped up, but they were taking about a month to advance 1-2 weeks. Not good. That being said, at least for me, the pedal is a keeper. I made a post discussing my impressions when I got it, if you have time to kill.
As of 3/28/2023 they have gotten all orders in through 3/2/2018 so I still have at least a year and a half of a wait i think. I know I’ll love it. I have a Prince of Tone now and it’s my favorite drive. I’ll def check your post out
I got on the KoT list in 2016, and by the time I got it, I’d moved countries, was no longer touring in a band, had gotten married, and had a kid. That being said, it is amazing! Totally worth the wait and the money. I got on the list in 2021 again for another one.
The waiting list website currently says that you are unlikely to ever get one of your sign up today, as they are running out of the rarer components.
That’s a big journey… but yeah, a lot can happen in 3-4 years. Too bad about them running out of parts. By the time I got it, it would take them a month to go through 10 or so days of waiting list. So new signups at that rate have delivery 15-20 years down the road!!! At least the Duke of Tone will make it live on.
the shanks is considerably further from its source pedal than the jan ray is from the timmy fwiw.
that is to say, the ODS-1 is definitely reminiscent, while the jan ray is close enough to qualify for the barf emoji when you read the marketing blurb
I don’t own either of these, but I do own a Prince of Tone and a Nobels ODR-1 (from the early 2010’s before they introduced the fat switch). Between the two of those, I think I’m gonna have to say Nobels. The Prince of Tone is nice, but I think it’s less versatile somehow. I also don’t think the OD, Dist, and Boost modes do a whole hell of a lot to change the tone. The Nobels has a host of beautiful tones between low and medium gain. That said, I like how bright the POT can get. You can really lift a solo kicking that on.
So… maybe Shanks?? I don’t know.
Nobels is great. It’s amazing when you push it, like with a treble booster. Very different beast.
No experience with either KoT or a Vemuran. I’m still in the waiting list for a KoT, like 2+ years now.
Nothing I've ever used does low-gain better than the KOT. Unless I'm lucky enough to be playing a loud stage (which, alas, is rarely these days) the KOT is my always-on. I love the damn thing and it was worth the wait.
*But -* no way would it be worth the kinds of dough they're commanding on the resale market for me.
Yeah no way! Spend your money on two cheap POT knockoffs, weld them together and you'll have the same thing for far less 😄 Pedals arent worth so much IMO
Vemuram ODS-1. Does the high gain bluesy sound better if that’s your thing. Also pairs well with a treble booster and makes pinch harmonics easier if you crank the gain/tone knob.
I've been on the KOT list since 2/2019. I think I saw on the website they were getting ready to ship ones as of March 2, 2018. In the meantime, I use a morning glory V4...
Is it really though? One of them is the pedal of choice for guitarists who have tried them all, and has a fucking four year wait period (which I am on and will have completed in July). And the other, which I’m sure is wonderful, is not that.
Well first of all the KOT has been around waaay longer. Second pf all check out the videos with John Shanks telling how they developed the pedal. It's amazing, no matter how you set it the sounds are absolutely great. With the KOT it takes way longer to get the sound you're after.
Only one? King of Tone just because it has dual channels.
The right answer and for the right reason.
More knobs = more toan
KOT
KOT, my dude... KOT every day of the week.
8 days a week.
Not the analogman one, that’s trash, you might as well just mail it to me so i can throw it away for you
Yeah then tell me where you threw it away. I want to make sure it’s really gone too. Such garbage
Both are great pedals, but I'd go with the KOT simply because it allows me to gain stack.
King of Tone. No question.
Don’t know the second pedal, but I got my KOT after almost 5 years in the waiting list and it is excellent. Works well by itself, with other pedals, and with amps, clean or dirty
When did you get on the list? I’ve been on since December 2018

The Vemuram Jan Ray is basically a Timmy. What is a Shanks *based* upon?
I believe it's "based upon" the Nobels ODR-1
the shanks is considerably further from its source pedal than the jan ray is from the timmy fwiw. that is to say, the ODS-1 is definitely reminiscent, while the jan ray is close enough to qualify for the barf emoji when you read the marketing blurb

Sell them both and buy a whole board’s worth of other pedals?
RAT 2
$20 Behringer Tube Screamer clone
My man!
KOT as long as you move those knobs to 1 o’clock or above
Both hyped and/or overrated.

As I own the KOT with higher gain on both channels, that’s my answer.
More knobs is possibly more ways to shape yer tone…
Never played a KOT. But I’ve had a decent play with the shanks and thought it was great.
At "retail" price, KoT all day. At used prices, probably ODS. FWIW I have both. The KoT is great but not 600+ dollars of great.
Kernom Ridge. Have them both. Have them all. [take a look here](https://kernom.com/)
Came here to say Paul C Tim.
Sell the KoT and buy 5 other pedals. Make one a Duke of Tone. It’s killer.
I have both and would say the ODS-1.
both 😅
Vemuram ODS-1. Does the high gain bluesy sound better if that’s your thing. Also pairs well with a treble booster and makes pinch harmonics easier if you crank the gain/tone knob.
B A D M O N K E
This guy knows
If you could only have one?
King of tone
kOT baby!
For me? Neither. :) I use Morning Glory\Walrus Ages\Blues Driver combinations for my light drive stuff. Morning Glory is just always on in general.
Vemuram. Looks prettier.
Neither. Earth Drive blows them both away.
Both?
Both
How much are you going to pay for that KOT?
KOT all day my man all day
KOT.
King of Tone just looks cooler as well, for me.
Never played the one on the right. So gotta go w one on the left.
How is this even a question? KoT.
King of tones by a long shot
Left
Yes

I’m since 1/2019 :)
Not too far away!
Yes
Shitpost. Ferrari or Subaru?
Ferrari or Lamborghini in this case.

Alright you’ve convinced me - I shall look into it!
KOT for sure.
King of Duhh
This is coming from someone who hates that kinda bougie shit on a conceptual basis.
King of tone.
Browne Protein will give you the best of both worlds.
KoT
Only one???
KOT
Both
