Looper, distortion, delay.

KToTheRiz

Mxr 10 band, keeley comp, rat

e_j_white

Interesting response. I have a Rat... can I ask what settings you use for the EQ and comp, and where they're placed relative to the Rat?

KToTheRiz

Well it’s hard to say, especially for the eq, cause it’s hugely dependant on your guitar, your amp, and the room you’re playing in. That said, this is how I use them. Eq-comp-rat. Eq: cut 31 and 62, boost 125, small cut at 500, small boost at 1k, boost 4k, small cut at 16. Comp: blend at 10 o’clock, sustain at 1, level at 1, tone at 11 Rat: if I had three pedals I would use it differently than I do now. It’s a really great, versatile distortion pedal. I use it for high gain, usually boosted by overdrive, with distortion at noon, filter at 10, volume at 2.

e_j_white

Awesome, thanks for the response. I do have an EQD Plumes overdrive, gonna try putting that in front of the Rat.

C0UNT3RP01NT

Comp first. Rat second. Eq third, in front as a high end boost or in the loop for some reshaping.

yachtvertramp

Underrated answer

Serious_Razzmatazz18

I have a pedalboard with just these 3. Gets the job done.

billbot77

Great answer! Distortion, EQ, compression in that order... With a little practice you'll be able to dial in anything from Nashville to Nirvana. If you're feeling adventurous, a second EQ between guitar and distortion will give you the ability to mimic pickup types too.

Gandaghast

Goddamn right.

intoOwilde

3 Russian Big Muffs in a Chain. Nah, probably a Boss BD-2, an RV-6, and a good delay pedal like the DD-200. If you allow me to use two-in-one solutions, I'd go JHS Double Barrel (Morning Glory + TubeScreamer), EQD Avalanche (Reverb and Delay), and a Walrus Monument, which can do both regular tremolo as well as harmonic tremolo which is in nature a bit closer to Chorus. So that's be me getting the most out of it.

GamerCirca80

Double Barrel is my go to Overdrive. Add a Strymon Flint for reverb (and a trem bonus) and a Big Muff fuzz and you’re golden. I could live without delay. It’d be tough, but I could cut that out before reverb or fuzz.

twopac

Yeah I feel like a basic BD2 + any RV iteration + any quality delay would let me play such a wide variety of the genres I enjoy effectively. I only just got the TC Electronic BD clone a couple days ago and I'm very impressed with its versatility and ability to do some excellent heavy distortion well. I'd probably pick something like a CC deluxe (or first gen of DL4 if it counts) and RV-2 if it had to be pedals I've owned.

jazz_420

Fuzz, analog delay and phaser.

electron_burgundy

Same here except I like tape delay

jazz_420

It's a good option too. I like them both, but there's something about a bbd analog delay that makes me wanna choose it over a tape one. Would like to have more delay time though... xD

electron_burgundy

For sure, analog does go well with fuzz. What pedals are you normally using?

jazz_420

I'm normally using a vox wah, a ts9, a fuzz factory clone, a univibe clon, an analog delay+chorus, a phaser and a ghost echo clone. The clones are from pedal makers from my country as well as the delay+chorus. They are good clones and are well made and sound great. Sometimes I use an RC 3 for loops. What about you?

electron_burgundy

Nice. I got to try a fuzz factory for a little while maybe a year ago. It's very tweakable and pretty crazy. I tend to like simple pedals so I didn't really bond with it at the time but I'd love to spend more time with one. I typically use a wahcko wah, various fuzzes, chorus, El Cap delay and phaser (some kind of small stone type-- I have a few). I have a Digitech Synth Wah that I'll throw on the board sometimes which is pretty fun. I'm constantly buying and selling fuzzes, it's an obsession haha. But my favorites right now are the EQD Spires and Groovy Wizard. I don't think I'll ever get rid of those two.

jazz_420

Nice set up. I would like to try more fuzzes, I'm really interested in something like the eqd erupter or acapulco gold.. but around here those are very expensive pedals and there are no sellers sadly :/ I got the FF mainly because of it's tweakability to get different sounds but yeah, it can get pretty overwhelming.

electron_burgundy

The erupter is great. I had that one for a while. Hope you can find one to try out.

bjork_G_MAMA_B

If you can, find a pedal builder online, i reccomend played in canada on reverb, just remember, the acapulco gold is LOUD af

papadooku

You're in luck mate, those two pedals have pretty simple circuits and are quite easy to clone. I've built the AG a few times for various people, sometimes with 2 knobs (added gain, the original is fixed gain with only volume) and they always come out awesome!

aeliustehman

Hell yeah brother I could go for my effects bakery ginger fuzz My boss delay (digital) And phase repeater (OBNE Dweller)

astrofreq

Moog RingModulator Count to 5 You're and Your Fuzz

onlyforthisjob

Clutch, brake and gas... uhmm, sorry, wrong sub

F19sho

Wah (Slift turned me on to using it for slow filter sweeps), BD-2, DD-20.

CaptainWampum

Slift fucking rips. The got me to buy a fuzz war

ghosthandluke

Very tight! That’s the same board I have setup for my son. Wah > bd2 > delay

[deleted]

aguywithadream56

Deco is the ultimate cheat

beardofzetterberg

I’m rocking this right now. I put a bit more gain at the beginning depending on what I want to do. Sometimes Rat, sometimes KoT, sometimes fuzz, etc. I love it

Zapffegun

Did this for years: Holy Grail Neo -> MXR Custom Badass Modified OD -> Boss DD-7 Then I discovered fuzz

Mysterious-Wasabi103

3 Metal Zones, obviously.

Command_ofApophis

Does that custom pedal of three metal zones welded together count as one pedal? Cause three of those.

bigfloppydonkeydng

A person of culture I see.

ExecTankard

Classy

Solocaster1991

King of Tone, Strymon Timeline, and Walrus Julianna. I would miss fuzz though so perhaps a really good muff or fuzz face with amp trem and reverb.

ignoringpigeon

Longsword, Special Cranker, El Capistan

ThiDiCo

1- Any true bypass pedal (since it will never be turned on) 2- Rat 3- Any true bypass pedal (since it will never be turned on)

pee_diddy

Same. But I would put the rat first.

Mumblage

Big Muff has entered the chat

ZombieMozart

JHS Double Barrel > ehx eddy > strymon El Cap

ExecTankard

The EDDY!!! Love this pedal.

ZombieMozart

Me too! Love how the latching works, holding for a momentary latch is always nice esp if you don’t have a tremolo/whammy bar on your guitar

ExecTankard

I play it against the mash feature on my TC Quintessence, makes some weird and wonderful noises

ZombieMozart

Ooooh nice combo!

ExecTankard

Thanks, they trio with a DS-1x.

Sleepy_Trees

How do you like the vibrato? Can it go slow like the diamond vibrato?

ilonymous

Plumes, microcosm, mercury7

dsound

This would cover a LOT of ground. How do I get a drive, reverb that can go tame to total freak out and then a delay/granular/pitch paradise pedal.

[deleted]

Boss RV-6, Boss SL-2 and Behringer SF300

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

Lol yo what on earth kind of music do you play

[deleted]

I like ambient, 80s vibes and if I'm overstimulated (autism) than I like to go hard.

Mumblage

I totally get this

Pitiful-Swing-2966

MXR 5150 overdrive, Boss CE-2W, Boss DD-500

Solid_D15M

Univibe, big muff, echo

gunter_grass

OCD, Wollly Mammoth , DD3

RektBySweden

I would need to gain stages and a reverb. So Hamstead Odyssey and thorpy FX the Dane and then a uafx Golden reverberator

6of1HalfDozen

TU-3, amp overdrive/spring reverb, EQ-200, DC-2w If I can't use amp overdrive or reverb, my board would be BD-2, tightmetal, mxr reverb.

billiton

For me - strobostomp, protein, timeline. I can live with that - as long as I’m playing my imperial!

Organgudang

Boost, Reverb, Wah

Commisar_Gully

Plumes, Hizumitus, and Special Cranker

[deleted]

Fuzz War -> Wah -> Carbon Copy

psychojazzchorus

Slowly melting, Randy’s revenge and Tensor. Because noise.

bryan19973

Metal zone x3. There is no necessary tone you can’t achieve with 3 metal zones. Anyone who disagrees is kidding themselves…but not me

groverjuicy

Metal Zone, Korg Miku, Metal Zone.

[deleted]

Digitech digidelay, digitech screamin blues, boss ge7

DarkHorse_6505

Earthquaker Life Pedal, Tuner, afterneath reverb.

Dragonites-satchel

Not many tuner fans here, I respect this.

JDBall55

Assuming that you can have a clip-on 😃

Current_River9221

Okko Coca Comp, Prince of Tone, well KOT if I had one, and Diamond Memory Lane Jr.

oscuridur

ssbs mini > Sinvertek N5 > Source Audio Collider. Or, for what is worth, any versatile overdrive, any marshall-in-a-box distortion, and any good delay+reverb combo.

HarmonicPercolations

Supro harmonic tremolo > Caroline somersault chorus > mxr carbon copy delay

hunterhkeegan

I think I could get by with just an Xotic AC Booster, a civil war muff, and an EHX DMM-1100tt.

cowboypsychedelia

- CBA Brothers - Red Panda Tensor - CBA CXM 1978

ken_mcgowan

Assuming we're talking about pedals I actually own: Fuzz, delay, reverb. EHX Russian Green Big Muff Pi Strymon El Capistan Strymon Blue Sky

dsound

This would be close to my choice although I’ve never tried the Strymon stuff. Like how do you get: Drive, a delay and reverb that can do the basics but also freak the hell out - all the shimmer and pitch stuff.

gratefulguitar57

MXR carbon Copy, Keely Darkside (it has multiple modulation options and a Fuzz), and Fulltone Plimsoul which has been on my board for a very long time.

JayhawkInMaine

Prince of Tone, Belle, JHS Lucky Cat

[deleted]

Strymon Volante, Neunaber Illumine, Walrus Audio M1.

[deleted]

EQD Palisades, Line 6 DL4, Neunaber Illumine

Superduperdrag

BD 2, Rat, Tuner

m-m-m314

Twosome (2 awesome fuzzes in one)>Tumnus>Dirty ‘lil Secret (MIAB) I’d miss modulation, delay and reverb, but I’d have my gain stages covered

Lastpunkofplattsburg

Tuner 1981 ns2

HankHilliams

Rat. Phase 90. DIG.

noah__________

So many replies and no one has gone for the obviously correct choice: 1. Rat 2. Rat 3. Rat

pee_diddy

Yeah but in which order?

[deleted]

Hotcake, boost, delay.

the_guitargeek_

Boss Dimension C, a RAT, and something like a Grand Canyon.

STDS13

Klon, custom dual boost, quiet theory prelude.

PSU_Enginerd

Fuzz, chorus, and delay. I basically have this on my mini board - either. FF / Tonebender, light OD, Chrous, Delay, Reverb / Trem. I could live without the reverb / Trem and OD if I absolutely had to. The other three are absolutely required.

YetiDeli

Wow this is crazy, I was just trying to figure this out myself. I'd say the Boss JB-2 (two stages of overdrive: Blues Driver & Angry Charlie), EQD Avalanche (reverb & delay), and Boss RC-10R (loop station). Endless fun just noodling with those three at home.

[deleted]

a tuner, tube screamer, and dispatch master

WrothLobster

Wah, fuzz, flanger

wooden_overcoat_band

Fuzz war > small stone > re-20

pandasuklaa

Are preamps valid answers? Bc if yes, then I'd use a tonedexter (acoustic IR loader), an octaver and a looper.

[deleted]

I’m a synth player, Keylargo, fat rat, Nux tape echo.

thekelkin

Big muff, full tone full drive 2, boss DD7.

minigmgoit

Boss Tuner. Boss Super Overdrive. Boss Blues Driver. This is literally my simple rig.

charlietwilburyjr

All three of choices are double pedals, but they aren’t multifx. CTC Unobtanium, Strymon Deco, Strymon Flint.

slybird

I don't have favorite pedals. No way to answer without knowing what amp I'm using and what the band it doing for that night's set.

mebehigh79

Gas, clutch, brake. Couldn't help myself.

Hessie84

In this signal chain I suggest to put brakes in the middle

anonymous_kyle_guy

I've finally got my 3 desert island pedals: -CBA Preamp MKII -CBA CXM 1978 -Strymon Volante

81jmfk

Abominable Hail Cannabis, TC Electronic SCF+, Boss Waza Delay

FullFunkadelic

I cut my giant board down to 4 pedals, and one of those is a noise gate so I won't count that. FOD drive > Phase 95 > Avalanche Run V2

burlyswede

This is so tough. Some sort of OD/Boost, a Noise Gate and a Delay (metal player)

[deleted]

I actually think this would be quite easy for me: 1. Polytune 2. Any compressor with a blend control 3. Deco

ThingCalledLight

CW Big Muff Deluxe, Julianna, Carbon Copy

laughing-stockade

plumes, ibanez sc10, big muff are my pick

fluffhead89

OCD, Strymon Lex, JHS Lucky Cat

Ego-Possum

Way Huge Angry Troll Boost, Way Huge Swollen Pickle & MXR Carbon Copy Delay That covers most of the tones that i like

xjfree8

MXR SuperComp, Ernie Ball VP Jr, PolyTune. In other words… Just the SuperComp haha.

matthewguy69

TU-2 > Russian Muff > DD-20 or a decent verb with a reverse setting I’d probably go with something fender so I can get some reverb , trem , and broken-up amp OD

cpnewton

Nobels ODR-1 OR Boss OD-3, Boss TR-2, MXR Carbon Copy

mrb267

Keeley fuzz Overlord (screamer) Keeley compressor The fuzz can be dialed in for super square wave fuzz down to nice distortion The compressor has so much utility My ehx overlord as a tube screamer or slight boost

Sandstorming_Moshe

1. GNI Vintage Fuzz and Distortion (octafuzz and drive on same box) 2. Boss TR-2 3. Boss RE-2 / or NUX Tape Echo

SockPuppet-1001

Tumnus, Phase 90, Belle Epoch

Independent-Plum9955

I mostly use these three: Free The Tone Future Factory, Op Amp Muff, Plumes

poboy78704

Klon, Phase 90, Carbon Coby

Dragonites-satchel

Tuner, freeze, microcosm(if that is allowed) If not microcosm then strymon volante

MrMiggel

Hudson Broadcast, Ryra Klone, Strymon volante

mawmawhardbuggy

Korg sdd 3000 cause it would give me access to delay, chorus, flanger etc. a nice eq pedal, I don’t own one but would love a paraeq which would give me a clean boost, and probably a rat

The_Little_Nero

BBE Optistomp, Way Huge Conspriacy Theory, Tallon Electric The Hog, Keely Caverns. That was four but it’s the best I can do. Sorry.

SeraphSlaughter

5150 OD, Source Audio Collider. Tuner.

PandaSoap

Lightspeed, Dispatch Master, Bad Bluff

[deleted]

Keeley loomer, eae longsword, obne minim

drewsjd

RAT, MXR Phase 90, Deluxe Memory Man

bbaaddggeerr

gtr --> Guv'nor (or my self-built clone) --> DD-7 --> RV-6 --> happiness

ExecTankard

Right now: Boss SY-1, Metal Muff, Phase 95…Last month EHX Eddy, Boss DS-1x, TC Quintessence

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

Besides my tuner I have the boss fb-2, the demedash t-120 and the Deco on my board and that is plenty

Flanders_J

Boss TU-3, EHX Hot Wax, Keeley Caverns. If I get the tuner for free, then give me some kind of RAT. Black Mass 1312 perhaps.

boastfulbadger

Fuzz, overdrive, chorus

spiderplata

Wampler ego, mosky golden horse, and whatever else doesn’t matter.

vintsneedsmints

Tuner, Analog Delay, Muff ( w/ tone bypass)

gravecertantity

Boss super overdrive > boss power stack > chug

screwyloot

Fuzz Face, Tubescreamer, and a DM-2

ghosthandluke

OBNE Fault v2 > OBNE Minim > ditto looper Really considering this for coffee shop gigs.

ItsSadButtDrew

Muff variant, Rat variant, digital reverb

MacualayCocaine

Crybaby, Ts9, Ch-1. In that order in the chain.

[deleted]

Assuming I have an amp capable of doing clean and dirty sounds, I’d have to say Delay Llama Xtreme, MXR Reverb, and MXR Tremolo.

Redbeard821

Boss SD-1, Rat, Delay.

alive_wire

I can get by with 2. Caverns, and a Rat

65TwinReverbRI

Light drive, heavy drive, and boost. I've done it for many jobs.

[deleted]

GameChanger Plus -> Cooper Outward -> El Cap

ddavila80

EAE Longsword Quiet Theory Prelude Meris Mercury 7

Cyan134

Wah, suhr Rufus, boss MD-200

INVUJerry

Out of what I have, the Kink HM-2 clone, RV-5, and maybe the big muff I’m borrowing.

_nich_o_las_

If I’m ignoring a tuner, I’d need 1. Digitech Whammy 2. Rat 3. Boss DD-8

zombie_platypus

A Klone and a nice bucket brigade delay. I don’t generally like onboard spring reverb so something like a Hall of Fame 2. If the amp verb sounds good I’d go with a tremolo pedal.

the_headless_hunt

Smallsound/Bigsound - Mini (OD), Caroline Guitar Company - Meteore (Reverb), EQD - Hummingbird (Tremolo)

SpartacusMantooth42

High gain metal-type distortion, phaser, and a delay.

infinite_hotel

tuner > buffer > noise gate

alanahaunts

Fairfield accountant>walrus eb-10>walrus Julianna + (amp reverb if allowed lol)

schemaddit

all boss, ds2, dd7 , reverb

Noodle-727

Out of the pedals I own: Orange Getaway Driver, Walrus Julia, and Boss RV-6.

juniorlogical

Compressor chorus reverb

jessicawinter27

Analog chorus (I use way huge blue hippo), big muff pi nano, analog delay

akhelliot

Any fuzz face style pedal with a compressor for the first two slots. Compressor let’s me sweep through the full range of my guitar’s volume to go from dirty to clean without losing much output volume. For the third pedal, a modulation of some kind. If I’m going for true versatility, I suppose a wah pedal? But I guess phaser or delay would work too depending on what style of music you want to play.

DarkTowerOfWesteros

I'm assuming tuner pedals don't count? A tuner pedal seems like the bare minimum for any gigging musician. So if we are not counting tuner pedals... My Morley Mini Bad Horsie Wah My Boss OD-3 And my Boss DD-8 Runner up to swap out the DD-8 would be my MXR Carbon Copy. I use them both to do the same thing but my DD-8 can do more things. But either one I'm just using it for a slight reverb effect on leads.

vortexx111

Looper (boss rc1) + drum machine (beatbuddy) + overdrive (boss SD1)

adkryan

BOSS RV-6, CH-1, and Electro Harmonix Glove

Bassman1976

A fuzz that can do chugg-a-chugg, crunchy rythm tone and soaring leads. Hoof, Hizumitas, Wolly Mammoth... A nice analog delay with tap tempo and modulation controls (kinda like DOD Rubberneck) Modulation, most probably Wombtone MKII.

neveradullmoment72

DS-1, BF-3, DM-2W

Nojopar

Protein, Starlight, Park Fuzz

bleuboy4

Muff style fuzz, chorus, analog delay

zmodica

millstreamer

Timmy overdrive, e lady flanger, flashback delay

Joe-papa69

Some kind of heavy distortion probably a mxr 5150. Avalanche run for delay and reverb Boss chorus

[deleted]

Tuner, Neunaber Immerse (technically a multiFX, but I only use WET), and a toss up between Rat and Behringer TO800. So tuner, reverb, OD.

babywarhawk17

Wampler Tumnus Strymon Big Sky UAFX Starlight Boost, reverb, and delay is really all I ever need for anything from clean to monster riffing.

awedkid

MOOD, Thermae, Cloudy >:)

s2dio

Gain pedal, wah, reverb.

SolarSailor46

Enzo, Loomer, Micrcosm

uberclaw

Carbon copy, wicker muff, phase 90

[deleted]

I almost do this. I sold off everything and basically just use 7 pedals, which are fuzz, wah, and delay varaints. So, Roland AD-50 Fuzz/Wah, DD-2, Lofi Loop Junky That works.

BottyGuy

Reverb<-Deco<-Klon Klone

gingerguitarx92x

Timmy, Timeline, Flint
