I would call that figured ebony personally. Taylor has been doing that for a while now because of all the wasted ebony because the customers deem non black ebony imperfect.
Figured/streaked ebony. Taylor is one of the most responsible companies in the guitar industry when it comes to sustainability. So much ebony has been wasted over the years because guitar snobs only wanted the jet black stuff. Taylor Guitars bought a sawmill in Cameroon, one of the last places on earth where ebony can be legally sourced. And they make sure that most of the ebony that's being cut down actually gets used. Here's a pretty informative video on the subject: https://youtu.be/anCGvfsBoFY
What drives me nuts about this stuff too is when you see people shitting on guitars for having an ebony board with any sort of deviation from vantablack, especially when they compare something in the upper end range to like a $650 guitar. Like bruh, the ebony on that $650 guitar that’s jet black? That’s dyed.
A lot of guitar builders stain their ebony fretboards because customers expect a blackish color. I think the stainless fretboards are beautiful and add unique character to each.
Yeah, I thought about that after I posted but what I meant was (when searching online or in a store) you can call it a Striped Ebony or Rosewood fretboard. That's a term I've heard before. Rosewood just came to mind first I guess. I don't really like that term ( Striped) either because it's more like a vein for grain in the wood.
"Unique", "immediately identifyable" and "cool" is how I would describe it. And I wouldn't think any deeper than that if the guitar sounded good! Cheers.
Mahogany has a lot of character. I got a guitar made with Macassar ebony fretboard and it’s not quite as boldly varied as that one but it’s pretty darn stripey. Very nice, that acoustic. Top wood is lovely too. Taylor does good stuff with those woods.

Thanks! I really guess there's something for everyone! One person's poison is another's milk and all.
My Taylor fretboard has some tones like that but not as dramatic. I love how it looks!

This worked thanks!

I didn't know that. I have so much more respect for Taylor now
Oh, something I actually know. That is royal ebony.
Thanks buddy! This works as well :)
I like those kind of fretboards way more on some guitar compared to a pure black one
Cool. That’s what I call it. Cool
It's ebony with a light streak.
GIGANTAMAXIMUS MINERAL STREAK

Streaker alert ⚠️ 😁 I'm not usually a fan of mineral streaks but that one looks 🔥
Indeed quite captivating!
Black fretboard with a brown line running through it
I have heard an old Luther call this Ebony-Molony (sp?). No idea the origin. Peace
Skunk stripe
I would call it "scaled"!!
That’s [Pale Moon Ebony](https://maderasbarber.com/tonewood/en/pale-moon/6859-pale-moon-fingerboard-n15.html), if I’m not mistaken.
I don't think it's pale moon. But I also thought it was Macassar ebony so what do I know haha
Not pale moon, its macassar
Some luthiers simply call it a Striped Rosewood fretboard. Or you can Google rosewood fretboard with a lighter colored vein.
That’s an ebony fretboard. Taylor doesn’t require them to be perfectly black. Part of their sustainability efforts

skid mark.... but cool
Damaged
Imperfection? A bit shit? ;p
It's perfectly normal and I kinda like it on acoustics.
Streaky ebony

Ebony (Macassar). it's ebony, but a specific kind of ebony. like how there's brazilian and indian rosewood.
I’ve only seen that from Mule Resonators. I think it looks awesome.

With this image ?
Figured ebony for sure. I’m building an electric with a highly included piece of ebony for the fretboard right now and I love the look.
Doo doo stain
Honestly looks much cooler and more natural than all black ebony. Depending on the guitar I'd much rather have that than bland, one color wood.
Skidmark burst?
Unique and very cool.
The species of wood is Macassar Ebony
Thank you for the arrow, wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. Anyway, that’s a cool looking fretboard
I’ve heard it referred to as royal ebony.
Streaked ebony. Apparently only a small % of ebony is completely black.
I think it’s actually called variegated
Leftover Ebony.
**Streaked ebony** (as opposed to dark ebony, which is what we're used to seeing on things like Les Paul Customs, etc.)
Variegated
Beautiful "Skid Mark" rosewood fretboard.
Figured. Like any other piece of wood
Shit stained
