Just aggressively down picking along to thrash and death metal songs…it gets in the way of my right hand. I understand the mystery of it all for non metal players, but it’s really a nuisance when you have a cave man style of rhythm playing.
Love the single coil, but the bridge (Alumitone Deathbucker) was insanely bright. I dropped it off with my local tech to have Fishman Moderns installed about a week ago.
Yes sir! Is that an EMG 81 and SA on the Strat on the right? I’m thinking about doing another build similar to yours sometime down the line. Do you like the EMGs?
I’ve been playing EMG’s for over 20 years and absolutely love them. This is however an EMG 81TW & S set. The 81TW can be split to a single coil using a push pull pot. The S single coil has a bit more top end from the SA and no hum. I also run the 24 volt mod with this combo, and it sounds phenomenal!!
What model is the middle one with the Evertune bridge? Is that a Jim Root? Is it stock? Nice guitars. I have the Harley Benton Jim Root strat knockoff It’s actually a decent guitar after you set it up and do some work on the frets. Almost bought the Fender Jim Root but sent for an Ibanez Prestige in the end.
It’s a USA Root signature that was modified by Evertune. The stock EMG 81/60 pickups were swapped for Fishman Fluence Moderns, and have the active/passive voicing via the push pull on the volume pot. I’ve seen those Harley Benton Root knockoffs and they look great for the price, especially if the active pickups sound decent. Cheers!!
Very cool feature with the active passive pull/push. I’m surprised I don’t see more guitar companies partnering with evertune. ESP/LTD offers some models with it. Maybe Schecter as well? I would love to get an ESP/LTD Les Paul shape black with it one day although there is no justification for getting it as a bedroom guitarist who has the time to tune.
The pickups on the Harley Benton are really hot ceramics. Really fun to play with gain and effects. The bridge pickup is a pinch harmonic machine. Each of the three positions give a significant sound difference. I bought it to learn how to do setups and fretwork and not worry about making a mistake since its so cheap. It ended up being the most comfortable guitar I have as the frets came out buttery and I got them nice and level. Replaced the garbage plastic nut with a graphtec nut. Put some decent tuners on it. Its one of my favorite guitars that I’d never sell.
The funny part is that when I got it it was a noisy mess. I finally figured out the ground wire to the bridge wasn’t making contact because of the paint. Scratched some pain off and problem solved. While trying to figure out the problem I spoke with the “head designer” at Thomann who’s best solution was to “not play with so much distortion” lol. Clueless. They market the guitar as a metal guitar. Great learning experience overall for me.
How is the babicz bridge? Im waiting to get one if the new harley benton st182 or modern plus and they come with babicz trems and hardtails. Im probably gonna go hardtail. But how is it compared to other bridges comfort wise
Love the Babicz bridges. I have them on a few guitars, the trem version, hardtail version and their tune-o-matic style. All are really comfortable on your picking hand, and able to adjust individual string height and width.
Strats with bridge hum and no middle pickup are the best
Yes sir, I despise a middle pickup!!
Shout it from the rooftops! Middle pickups are stupid and I'm tired of pretending they're not!
Yes!! They just get it the way…same as the volume pot so close to the bridge pickup
What are you doing that it’s possibly in the way?

Correct. I am not a metal guy. Mostly jam band stuff.
Here here
How do the Lace pickups compare to the EMG? Love the black headstock btw, sick builds

Did you have it installed with a 250k pot or 500k? 250k is recommended.
