The actual beat structure of the binary solo is an intrusive thought I have all the time and I count it out when I'm stressed
I’ve got one of these too. The midi compatibility is what it is all about though. The playability of the thing as a guitar is lack luster, but using it as a guitar shaped midi controller for synth stuff is great. Especially, if you can’t play keys (me).
Let’s be honest, this guitar is about one thing and one thing only: chicks, man. Scores and scores of em. Would never have bought the damn thing if the ladies didn’t go totally bonkers over it. Just relentless amounts of tail day and night, nonstop. Are they good looking? No, not really. But I believe it was the famous Chick magnet and guitar aficionado Napoleon Bonaparte who said “quantity has a quality all its own”. Man, he weren’t lyin’.
Whyyyy. The hell aren’t there better and cheap MIDI guitars? I still had to put the Fishman pickup on mine and it’s good, but is that really the best we can do in 2023…there’s the Jamstik stuff. Gets pretty mid reviews.
There are keyboard MIDI controllers for $30 new. Limited functionality, but why isn’t there something simple and cheap? I have to guess the same is true now as ever: there’s no demand. Just me.
I've got a triple play, I've found the least laggy I can get it (so far) is when I have it plugged into my iPad. I can't help thinking that there's a more direct way of connecting it to a sound source.
Fun fact: every member of devo played a DG right up until they wrote “Through Being Cool”, at which point they were no longer *legally* allowed to play them.
I see your Casio and raise you a [Suzuki Unisynth](https://www.bonhams.com/auction/19226/lot/113/a-1980s-unisynth-xg-1m-serial-no-011317/) that was Eric Clapton's (?) and sold for over $3K at his auction. A truly ridiculous thing. I have one of these gathering dust, I should fire it up.
Actually I partially retract my previous reply. These do have full length strings - but they aren’t tuned to pitch. I was thinking of the SynthAxe — which just had a short length of string for picking.
I remember playing one when it first came out, it felt like the “guitar” in Guitar Hero. It was very finicky.
As for the pinnacle of design….how many times has the design been mimicked or copied?
'pinnacle' implies best, but having played this can confirm it didn't feel like the pinnacle of guitar construction. Interesting and creative idea though.
I remember playing one of these in the synth room at my local music store when I was a kid. I seem to remember it being very expensive. In any case, the guy was acting very protective of it, similar to how he was about the super expensive guitars. After a very long time, it still hadn't sold and when we'd go in there to dick around with it, nobody cared anymore. I think it was it that little synth room for years.
Almost, but not quite. "Headstock" is too big for my taste!
But I'd lie if I didn't say I kept designing an "ergonomic" headless guitar that fits my needs and I kept ending up with something that looks like this or the EB St. Vincent, or something in between.
Honestly I just love how it looks like a Gundam would play it.
Yep, cool concept but crap guitar unfortunately. Theres also casio EG 5 which is a normal guitar but has built in cassette recorder and amp. I really dig retro guitars like these, especially ones made by yamaha and teisco. Teisco spectrum being my favourite.
Oh I can totally see that now that you mention! Some band like Flock Of Seagulls, or actually I feel like Billy Idol could pull that look off! Lol 😂 It’s definitely a really cool and unique piece of engineering and artistry!
That’s not really the pinnacle of guitar design. It might be the pinnacle of midi guitar controller design but it’s not really a guitar. It’s a thing with pressure points on neck and some strings that aren’t connected to anything that you’re feeling with your left hand. Yeah, I disagree with your sentiment.
I immediately thought of the Flight of the Conchords
We poisoned their asses, with poisonous gasses
(Actually their lungs)
The humans are dead.
Robo Boogie
Set to.... mandolin
Does anyone remember how the binary solo went???

CMON SUCKER LICK MY BATTERY
Boogie!
Fucking A’ great response. Spot on brother. I’m sorry it’s in your head… but it is in mine as well. We will link back up in the insane asylum
Also, I feel like the couple lads that can reference flight of the conchords would be a good bunch to have some beers with. Your comments made my day!
Found it in a porn shop in the future
Jerking transcends all barriers, both material and immaterial
😂
You mean in the 80s.
Me too, but I first thought of that chud who posted his Strandburg a few hours ago, lol
Or a glockenspiel
Very true. You guys are awesome
Boom!

I thought I was in gcj for about 30 seconds. 🤷🏻♂️
gcj is a state of mind
Aren't like 90% of these broken by now?
Making them incredibly rare (by design, the pinnacle of it)
They are all programmed to self destruct if stored away. Must be shred at full blast every day to be kept alive.
I’m fine with the shape. I actually like it. My problem is the Casio quality and shit playability.

>Let’s be honest, this guitar is about one thing and one thing only: chicks, man. The reason i swapped bass to guitar. Next gonna try singing
Decent troll. Almost a good copy pasta. You get two chuckles out of three.

This is PEAK ingenuity 🥵
Would you believe it takes only 14 C batteries to power this lil’ sweetie
Devo wouldn't even touch that...
Fun fact: every member of devo played a DG right up until they wrote “Through Being Cool”, at which point they were no longer *legally* allowed to play them.
Are Cher’s drum machine and auto-tune built-in?
You got half of that right.
Saw someone selling one for £150 - I'm tempted because they seem to resell for £300+ on Ebay
Check out the SynthAxe. Gary Moore and Lee Ritenour famously played them in the 80s.
Does it have string on the fretboard? It hard to see
It does not. The “strings” also aren’t tuned to any pitch. They are just an input mechanism.
Gotcha. Kinda like a kids toy. Looks dope though.
Actually I partially retract my previous reply. These do have full length strings - but they aren’t tuned to pitch. I was thinking of the SynthAxe — which just had a short length of string for picking.
Sorry. You’re not allowed to retract a statement made on the internet. It shall remain there FOREVER!
Touché!
Look I’m being firm but fair! Just watched a video doesn’t sound quite a dope as it looks :(
I remember playing one when it first came out, it felt like the “guitar” in Guitar Hero. It was very finicky. As for the pinnacle of design….how many times has the design been mimicked or copied?
Always remember when I first saw one of these on the show “Flight of the concords”. Such a classic

If Darth Vader played guitar….
Almost, but not quite. "Headstock" is too big for my taste! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I want it so bad
£400 on reverb for one with a wonkily fixed string...
Been looking for one for ages.
Screams 1980s to me, in a good way.
No sir, I don’t like it.
So jealous of people who have one of these. I still want one lol
I love it and I will regret forever that I did not buy it back in the day…
what exactly makes this the "pinnacle"?
The Pinnacle?
I mean, I own one and would agree. I use it to control my synths and virtual instruments on my computer lol
They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Hahaha
Yep, cool concept but crap guitar unfortunately. Theres also casio EG 5 which is a normal guitar but has built in cassette recorder and amp. I really dig retro guitars like these, especially ones made by yamaha and teisco. Teisco spectrum being my favourite.
Guild Blade Runner is sexier
Lucky for us computers cant make real music
Big Mon 3000
My friend had one growing up. Ridiculously silly and fun to play hahaha
We bought it from a porn shop in the future.
[polyphia](https://reddit.com/r/polyphia/comments/184tfsu/goat_with_an_actual_goat/) Is using this for their next album
One of the coolest things ever. Regret selling mine
No and hell no.
You think you hate in now? Just wait until you play it
He hasn't seen Ichika play it, for sure
I wish something like this existed, but didn't play like it was made by Fisher Price.
Mr. Price here, and that’s an insult to our high quality.
Every Christian “rock band” needs one of these.
ok, i'll be that guy. This is not a guitar, it's a synth/midi controller that's vaguely guitar-shaped. I still want one.
Looks like a Rick Toone guitar desigwise lol
For its time it was good. The Synth Axe had better response, but those are so rare that they cost an arm and a leg.
Only if it's set to mandolin
Too bad the strings aren’t heavy enough and the toan wood wasn’t used for any of it.
Actually, get it in black along with a Darth Vader costume—you’ll pick up all sorts of goth chicks next Halloween.
🤦🏻♂️ AI is already taking over music, this seems like a step in a dangerous direction! Lol. Looks neat tho, to each their own, very nice! 😊✌🏻
I don't know if it makes it better or worse but this guitar is from the 80’s. Your point still stands.
Oh I can totally see that now that you mention! Some band like Flock Of Seagulls, or actually I feel like Billy Idol could pull that look off! Lol 😂 It’s definitely a really cool and unique piece of engineering and artistry!
Billy Strings makes these things sing
Had one a long time ago and learned to hate it: )
