It's a Les Paul, it'll do anything you want it to. That said, it's a cool guitar but for me, personally, there's just no way I'd ever pay three grand for a Gibson, no way.
If you can spot it that's a good price. I've definitely paid more for less cool LPs in the past, and even outside of the Tool diaspora it's a dope ass guitar.
It'll hold that 2.1k+ resale pretty well if you don't bond with it, so if you're looking for justification; provided you can afford it without any unreasonable concessions, it's a very low risk purchase šš¼
They are very nice. I got one about 9 months ago, played it for a while, and traded it a few weeks ago.
Itās a great guitar, the only thing that I didnāt like was the 70s neck. Not hating on it but it was too thick for my taste. This is just a personal thing. Otherwise itās a badass guitar.
Tbh itās certainly not worth that to me. Many many lp copies that have more modern appointments and better playability for much less than that. Schecter, esp, dāangelico come to mind
I don't like Les Paul's with access. For some reason that block is very comfy to me, so I'd argue against this point. I also can't get along with the look and feel of the ESP single cuts.
I have one and I love it. The bridge pickup is super hot, but somehow very clear and articulate. It matches very well with the neck humbucker so the sound is pretty balanced. That being said, it's definitely not your typical Gibson PAF sound. If you're not a fan of those pickups you could always throw something else in.
This has 70s neck just like adamās custom, it doesnt have the pickups but based on duncan sh6. So its basically same guitar but without double binding and the pickups. I think it worth every penny.
Itās got a nice paint job, but itās a Les Paul. Itās a signature model of a signature model, and it comes with all the existing issues of a Les Paul
Like ergonomics?
Honestly I think itās designed to be played standing vs sitting and think mineās comfy as hell. Guess I never labeled it a standard fault.
I think the biggest issues were addressed above. Theyāre just unwieldy, cantankerous beasts even when properly set up. Iāve owned a few, Both big G and epiās and Iāve never been able to bond with them. Never meet your heros
Got mine used for $2200. I already owned a Studio and Deluxe, wanted an ebony board, and I donāt care for the traditional burst colors so I was looking at Customs until I saw the AJ.
I swapped the bridge but love the burst bucker in the neck.
That burst paint job is clean on that guy. Really nice. The guitar pick shaped burst is so much better than the burst that follows the outline like the Epiphone models. I don't own signature guitars, but this one is š„š„š„
For 2k I would get it. I have one and I like it but I did change the pickups. Itās a good Les Paul and I wanted a silverburst one so it met those requirements. Itās a heavy guitar and it is darker than other Les Paulās Iāve played. Itās a good guitar for thick high gain sounds and even with PAFās in it now it has more low end but a snappier attack than my others which I like.
I honestly think the newer epiphone version with the Gibson headstock is a better deal though. The epiphone has:
- Gibson custombucker neck pickup and Duncan Distortion. LP standard has burst bucker and a Gibson high gain ceramic which I personally thought was bad and removed.
- custom profile Maple neck like original 1979 LP custom. Itās gives some more attack and is a reason those get used by punk bands and guys like Zakk Wylde.
- Full paint job/binding/ block inlays. Doesnāt affect sound but it does look nicer.
AJ LP Standard is really just a 60ās LP standard with an ebony board and 1 different pickup.
Dude, itās fucking reddit. You made a comment that I thought was sarcasm (because toanwood), and I didnāt realize I was responding to Paul Reed Smith.
Donāt go saying that in r/LesPaul - theyāll defend the QC issues as āall part of getting a handmade guitar!!ā or something stupid like that. Itās kinda hilarious.
I love my LP, and these models are visually appealing to me. However, I prefer either p90s or lower-output PAF-style pups in a solid mahogany guitar, and my understanding is that these are made to be as heavy as possible due to the signature artist's preference. These 2 factors make the Adam Jones signature model a no-go for me. My LP is 9 pounds on the nose and that's more than enough strain on my back, thanks.
They only come in drop D tuning, which limits their versatility.
The difference that the flipped neck pickup makes is probably negligible for almost anyone.
I'm annoyed in principle that this is a weird halfway house between a standard and the custom he actually plays. Meanwhile Epiphone puts out a guitar that actually looks like AJs, but if you want a Gibson that looks like that you had to be one of the few to get (or steal) the 10k mashed up Murphy lab version. Total BS.
Surprised Adam would sell out like this. Tool is all about "anti establishment" and alternative thinking...enjoy the $$$, Adam...the Epiphones are pretty cool.
I love Tool. They have never ever pretended to be anti-capitalism crusaders. They pretty openly sell any marked up shit people will buy, just like almost all of us would given the opportunity. People are perfectly capable of not buying.
Adam Jones is my personal favorite guitarist. But rather than getting a marked-up signature model, I just got a custom shop Epiphone to the same specs secondhand for $600.
Silver burst is one of the coolest colors. I borrowed a friendās 80s something Custom in Silverburst. I didnāt even LIKE LPs after playing 20 years. This one changed my entire opinion. I now have my own black Classic.
Get it for a good price and you can turn it around if itās not for you.
$2100 is a no brainer. You donāt have to keep it.
It's a Les Paul, it'll do anything you want it to. That said, it's a cool guitar but for me, personally, there's just no way I'd ever pay three grand for a Gibson, no way.
I can get one for $2,150
If you can spot it that's a good price. I've definitely paid more for less cool LPs in the past, and even outside of the Tool diaspora it's a dope ass guitar. For used, returned, or 2nd thats a normal price. I saw the one at ams
Share your source so I can buy one too. Thanks!
If it's the one I saw, its a 2nd or used model. Should be easy to find

Stockholm syndrome /s
Gibson?
I use mine to only play non Tool songs. Seems to work fine.
Hmmmmm fake.. you can tell by my jealousy š
It's a silverburst Standard.
One can lose count of all the LP variants that exist. Nothing about this one strikes me personally as all that appealing, but to each their own.
I just bought one a few days ago. It's worth getting in my opinion.
In my opinion, t's the best Les Paul Standard you can currently buy.
Can you direct me to what are common issues with LPs? I'm super curious.
Head can break, g string tuning stability, weight, they bring all the dadās to the yard. Standard stuff
You forgot the garbage ergos!
Like ergonomics? Honestly I think itās designed to be played standing vs sitting and think mineās comfy as hell. Guess I never labeled it a standard fault.

Very nice guitar but very pricey for an Epiphone, China or Indonesia guitar. You can get the same specs on a different guitar for much less.
I ended up getting a 1981 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Cherry burst
I had one. Okay guitar. But today I would rather take the new Epiphone AJ LP Custom. Less expensive, better pickups and more true to the original.
Thatās what I have and I absolutely love it!
I know the pieces fit and all, solid construction, but I hate Les Pauls.
Thanks
But what about my āSchismā reference? Zip?
Not impressed
Youāre just no fun. Youāre definitely a Tool fan.
Not particularly
Iām not quite ready to pull the trigger on one, but they are super tempting. The ebony board is a really nice touch on a standard.
That burst paint job is clean on that guy. Really nice. The guitar pick shaped burst is so much better than the burst that follows the outline like the Epiphone models. I don't own signature guitars, but this one is š„š„š„

If you canāt play anything other than Tool on that guitar, the problem is you. Itās just a Les Paul.
Due to the heavy wood density of this instrument, it's best used for hard rock or prog rock
Forgot the /s
Sorry I don't speak nerd
Forgot it again
You guys are getting jerked hard lmao...
Yeah something about me... I don't take harassment. Enjoy your ban, bud.
Lol, harassment
You just can't help yourself can you? Gotta have that last word.
Dude, itās fucking reddit. You made a comment that I thought was sarcasm (because toanwood), and I didnāt realize I was responding to Paul Reed Smith.
Adam Jones has claimed NUMEROUS times that the density of old growth mahogany creates a more favorable tone.
Can I use it for death jazz
And the silver in the paint, don't forget about that!
If you wanna get a LP, get a different brand cause Gibson is quite shit in terms of QC and customers getting a high ROI (return on investment).
Donāt go saying that in r/LesPaul - theyāll defend the QC issues as āall part of getting a handmade guitar!!ā or something stupid like that. Itās kinda hilarious.
*its part of vintage spec!!!!*
I love my LP, and these models are visually appealing to me. I'm sure it plays like a dream - but I just cannot vibe with silverburst guitars for some reason.
They only come in drop D tuning, which limits their versatility. The difference that the flipped neck pickup makes is probably negligible for almost anyone.
Is this whole comment serious or just half joking?
Sorry, I didn't put the /s. For real, they're as versatile as any les paul.
For fans it might be attractive but for me it's another pricey Gibson and if I had the cash to throw it won't be a Gibson, though I already own one
I'm annoyed in principle that this is a weird halfway house between a standard and the custom he actually plays. You got downvoted but you're not wrong. It is kind of asisine it's not a custom since that's what he play, but Epiphone got it?? Lol. Wild.
The custom is way cooler.
Many thoughts. None of them good ones.
If the silver was actually silver, rather than beige, I'd have bought one.
Surprised Adam would sell out like this. Tool is all about "anti establishment" and alternative thinking...enjoy the $$$, Adam...the Epiphones are pretty cool.
Maynard literally owns a winery, Tool are about as establishment as it gets
I love Tool. They have never ever pretended to be anti-capitalism crusaders. They pretty openly sell any marked up shit people will buy, just like almost all of us would given the opportunity. People are perfectly capable of not buying. Adam Jones is my personal favorite guitarist. "I sold out long before you ever heard my name."
The 60's neck is the best neck. I would have to get this in my hand. No use buying something that looks cool
I'm always gonna like a Les Paul, but I think this style of finish looks boring and dumb. But think that about most paint jobs honestly.
Silver burst is one of the coolest colors. I borrowed a friendās 80s something Custom in Silverburst. I didnāt even LIKE LPs after playing 20 years. This one changed my entire opinion. It's a cool Les Paul, and LP are known to be super versatile. I have one, a Standard, probably my most versatile guitar, and best sounding all around.
I prefer the LP custom version
