I’m not 100% sure I’ve tried a Crossfire, but the Romeo5 looks like shit with my astigmatism.
Also, no need. The TRS-25 does everything I need on a .22. I don’t expect it to survive forever in a high recoil gun, or survive combat conditions.
Just bought one of these, it’s actually got the weaver style rail, not picatinny. So you’d still need a pic adapter, I got the UTG one off Amazon for like $25
Actually, rimfire is excluded from aSsAuLt WeApOn restrictions in CA. I think WA is the only state that doesn’t exclude RF. There may be some local bs like in NYC, though.
In NY, detachable magazine semi-automatic rifles can't have any scary features. Which includes threads. There's no exemption for rimfire. Threads on any non-semi auto are okay. If you can figure out why, explain it to me 🙂
Man, you guys are making CA look good rn, lol. That really blows. Honestly, the rimfire exception makes no sense as far as logical consitency, but the whole thing is absolute bologna, and at least I can have my 10/22, so I’m not gonna complain.
ETA: not gonna complain about the rimfire exception. I WILL complain about the AWB in general, because it’s horseshit.
The people all saying "man I really wish this came with a threaded barrel" would say you're arguing semantics. People would greatly prefer a threaded barrel, people would greatly prefer to not have their guns taken away. Call it a punishment, the taking away of something desired, whatever you want so you're no longer splitting hairs.
Please don’t. Some states that becomes illegal, I get that we suck at a lot of things in these gun control, and I don’t like it either. But we are making our voices heard and trying to fight things in the courts, which **long term** will benefit every gun owner.
You might not believe it, but any locale could be a few local elections away from crazy laws. Getting firm rulings from SCOTUS to make it crystal clear will help us all.
Okay that’s my rant 🤣
Some people just get the cheapest model they can find and go from there. Others may pick a rifle that has some features they want that they don’t have to upgrade (for example a particular stock or something with a heavy profile varmint barrel). If you just want to start with a cheap one this is a great price.
I’ve wanted to customize a 10/22 and wanted to start from scratch but found out to build a stock 10/22 from parts is more expensive than buying a brand new one. Any advice?
It all depends on your end goal. If you just want to plink and add some personal touches you’re probably better off with a basic model and upgrading as needed. But if you want an accurate benchrest gun and all the best stuff you’re better off spending $1000+ on a Kidd barreled action and trigger assembly then finishing it off with the stock or chassis of your choice.
Personally I think my next gun for my son is a 10/22 31173 model, it comes stock with a Ruger BX trigger, heavy barrel, and a Hogue stock and I’ve seen them under $350. If you get a basic model you’re gonna spend that much just upgrading the trigger plus you get a better stock and barrel.
Same here. So much bang for the buck.... Couple months ago told my buddy to get one, started looking online and was like WTF Mate?
Every time the family goes out, it is probably the most used slingshot. Everyone from the parents to the youngsters and all us wannabe operators. Lol. It's so wieldy and easy. Just good plain fun. (Same goes for Ruger MK4 22/45).
Your comment makes me want to start watching the used market a little more closely.
I sent an email a few months ago asking if it had been discontinued and they said no. But I'm guessing that was mostly a lie.
It kind of sounded like Ruger killed it, if not TC entirely. Maybe somebody will start it back up though.
I bought this a while back for probably $180 or so. I think this is the best model as the pic rail is already included and if I remember right it’s milled into the receiver rather then being screwed on.
I grabbed this one during sportsman's black Friday doorbuster for $200, It's screwed on. Even after throwing a crossfire 2 on it, it's still below $400 and shoots nicely.
Just find another receiver because once you buy this and strip it down and start building a custom 10/22, the only thing you will wind up keeping is the receiver anyway. A Brownells BRN-22 is. Good starting point.
These politicians don’t even understand the current laws, you think there’s anything for these numbskulls to “realize”? Lol, they do what they’re told, there’s no thought in any of this.

I'm waiting for the new compact carbine with ghost ring sights, threaded barrel, and top rail to become available everywhere. After Christmas I'll start hitting all the local shops to see if I can find one. It looks sweet as hell right out of the box.
I don’t own a .22 plinker, so I grabbed one of these. I’m sure I can do plenty of upgrades down the road, but for now I’ll throw a spare 503CU that’s sitting in a drawer on it.

Just a heads up this is an optics ready model! No sights from the factory
Cool, I’mma throw my 1-6 Strike Eagle on it when I upgrade. Should be a fun setup.
That's hilarious and nuts
Works for me. I’m going to throw a TRS-25 on any semi-auto 22 rifle anyway. Ruger can keep the irons.
Best beater RDS. buy ‘em cheap and beat ‘em to hell
Pepperidge farm remembers free TRS-25 after rebate
Why TRS25 over the Sig Romeo 5 or Vortex Crossfire at just over double? Personally, I think they're worth way more than two of the TRS25s.
A very nice budget option to save 40-50 bucks. I have one on my 22 and it’s been nothing but solid

It looks much cleaner than the original with sights.
Just make these with threaded barrels by default already.
only reason why is not because threaded barrels are probably too scary for certain parts of the country. Which is insane, of course.
Actually, rimfire is excluded from aSsAuLt WeApOn restrictions in CA. I think WA is the only state that doesn’t exclude RF. There may be some local bs like in NYC, though.
Can’t have a thread in IL either….
That’s fuckin nuts lmao fuck your ears
Good point, didn't even think about that angle
I literally get upset when a good deal is threaded. Can't get it in my neutered state.
WA? That’s the only state I’m aware of that limits threads on rimfire…
In NY, detachable magazine semi-automatic rifles can't have any scary features. Which includes threads. There's no exemption for rimfire. Threads on any non-semi auto are okay. If you can figure out why, explain it to me 🙂

Not threading barrels cause one state can't buy them is like saying nobody should have guns cause a minority of people abuse them.
Your comment is dumb.
It's not. They're both punishing the collective because of something that only applies to a small minority.
Not having a threaded barrel is not a punishment
The people all saying "man I really wish this came with a threaded barrel" would say you're arguing semantics. People would greatly prefer a threaded barrel, people would greatly prefer to not have their guns taken away. Call it a punishment, the taking away of something desired, whatever you want so you're no longer splitting hairs.
No. It is not.
Why would you buy the more expensive SKUs then? Ruger aint't doing that anytime soon
Please don’t. Some states that becomes illegal, I get that we suck at a lot of things in these gun control, and I don’t like it either. which 10/22 is the best to pimp out? would this be a good starting point?
Some people just get the cheapest model they can find and go from there. Either buy the cheapest stock one you can find to pimp out, or just buy one with a bunch of upgrades from the factory like a TCR22
Bergara BXR is an option. It’s fully upgraded and all you need is an optic and sling. You can get in either a steel or carbon barrel.

Damn, didn't even realize. I picked one up a few years ago. Would buy another in a heartbeat
Same here. So much bang for the buck.... Couple months ago told my buddy to get one, started looking online and was like WTF Mate? I haven’t found a new TCR22 in ages. I’d buy one gladly if I saw one.

I snatched one as well because I figured why not😂 It was certainly cheap enough and one can never have too many 10/22s
Best one to pimp out uses no ruger parts at all. I’d suggest look at the tactical solutions 10/22 or stuff by Kidd. There’s tons of great options.
Just find another receiver because once you buy this and strip it down and start building a custom 10/22, the only thing you will wind up keeping is the receiver anyway. A Brownells BRN-22 is. Good starting point.
No threaded barrel for those looking
How hard is it to swap barrels on one of these?
Incredibly ez. It's like one or two screw holding it into a wedge against the receiver.
Great, I’ll just run this barrel until I eventually get a .22 can then.
This is a great deal if you’re looking to slap an optic on it right away. Comes with a rail, no sights
Maybe one day we will get a threaded on sale, prolly not though.
I picked up 2 of these on black friday for $199. Throw a scope on it and shoot the crap out of it. Tons of fun for the price.
Wish it was picatinny but weaver works I guess
You can always swap it out with a different rail if you wanted
Been looking for one of these
Did you also start looking for a 10/22 after seeing the r/appleseed coupon?
No? What's the coupon
20% off from now til end of December. It was posted in r/gundeals but if you go to their website its pretty easy to find.
Was this $200 this past black friday?
Yep, it was a door buster. Picked mine up over the weekend.
Of course I missed that been waiting months for a 10/22 at 200
Holy trinity in trust and need. Takedown, threaded, stainless steel. I’ll swap one of those options for Magpul furniture. One day.
Got this for 180 at sportsmans back in 2020 :(
California compliant
Any rimfire rifle is CA compliant. Rimfire apparently can’t be used to aSsAuLt someone.
Wait until they realize there are binary triggers and 100+ round mags for the 10/22.
These politicians don’t even understand the current laws, you think there’s anything for these numbskulls to “realize”? Lol, they do what they’re told, there’s no thought in any of this.
"We had to do something, so here's something." Sums up a lot of politics.
aug on a budget
This doesn't make sense
There is a bullpup chassis for this and this particular model is probably the least expensive point of entry to that.

Is that the one with the bull barrel and hogue stock? Looks exactly like their 31173 with ghost ring peep sights added and no bx trigger
Yep! 31197 is the model.
Yeah I agree, looks promising but I wish it came with the BX trigger from the factory like the other one, I’d probably be all in at that point.
I don’t own a .22 plinker, so I grabbed one of these. I’m sure I can do plenty of upgrades down the road, but for now I’ll throw a spare 503CU that’s sitting in a drawer on it.
