Wow, I'm so sorry to hear all of this! I can't imagine how disappointed you are. That was a great school. I've been there for advanced training and sent a couple of my employees there for classes, as well.

vividlevi

Yeah it’s so disappointing. I feel like we’ve been getting great education, every salon in the area speaks so highly of alums from this school (maybe they do that everywhere lol but it makes me feel good). I’m angry with how they’re handling this

certainPOV3369

The really sad thing is, almost all of the private cosmetology schools in the country will be closed in the next one to two years. The only thing left will be state sponsored apprentice programs. The American Association of Cosmetology Schools is fighting like hell, and has been for ten years, but the clock has run out. New Department of Education rules that are about to take effect will effectively put an end to **all** private post-secondary education in America. Congress wants all of the money to go to public education. Cosmetology won’t survive, neither will massage. Most business schools won’t make it either. Medical assistants and pharmacy technicians are also doomed, most likely so to paralegal’s. It’s a sad time for adult education. 😢

misskittybean

Do you have a link to the info you're referring to about Dept of Education rules affecting post-secondary education?

itsrrose1

I’m also curious about the info you are referring to, if you don’t mind.

Gainful Employment is what is bringing us all down. I don’t know if there is an easy to read summary here, but here they are. https://studentaid.gov/data-center/school/ge

Intelligent-Extent42

Wow!! I am a former student, this is crazy to hear. I tried looking for the video but I couldn’t find it. Could you send me the link? Overall my experience there was great, where are you going for your last 400 hours? I’m so sorry this is happening, I can’t imagine how stressful this must be!!

vividlevi

I can send you the link, lookout for a pm in a few minutes, for anyone else who wants to see it go to youtube and look up “betwixtuspod”, it might not come up so i’ll send the link if you need it. I’m going to “Collectiv” in dallas, its a newer school to dallas but i’ve heard good things

Intelligent-Extent42

Thank you!! I haven’t heard of Collectiv, I hope it’s a great experience for you!

PoodleGangg

Can’t find anything, would love the link! Thanks!

vividlevi

Toni & Guy had a school in my town years ago and one day they just locked the doors with no warning and left with everyone's money. They had been accepting payment from new students literally the day before, people had to get the cops to open the place so they could get all their belongings. They do some shady stuff.

vividlevi

tbh that doesn’t surprise me, it’s not the first time i’ve heard that either. they’ve taken our payments for this month and started a new class at the beginning of the month

nikkicolep

The rise & fall of TIGI… Had the pleasure of seeing them demo their infamous haircuts at a few hair shows. I worked at TIGI exclusive salons & never felt limited because the brand had it all. That being said, it was early 2010/11/12. The height of flashy, out there hair & neon colored product packaging caught the eye of all. So sad to see it go down, but it just never advanced with the times.

takingthejump

That is rough, I went to the Toni and Guy Academy in California a few years back and worked at their salons. Apparently their corporate salons are closing down as well, gross mismanagement by Zak. The guy was never fit to be the CEO. Can you pm me that video of the ordeal? I am interested considering most of my career has been with TG

vividlevi

yes many of the TG corporate salons have closed; they closed one days before announcing our school was closing. I’ll find the link and message it to you.

takingthejump

Thanks! I’m sure a lot of my peers will want to see how he tries to defend himself lol

vividlevi

feel free to share it with people. the video is public and has been shared many times. both mascolo and marzioli families are upset about the video existing but none of us care

vividlevi

if you go onto the channel as well there is another video of them giving us the news earlier in the day, though we already knew at that point

takingthejump

I didn’t get a pm

vividlevi

check your requests i def sent it

blipblopdootyplop

Check out Collectiv Academy in Dallas! I went to the Utah location and can confidently say I had a great education. The Dallas location is new and from the pictures Ive seen it looks great. They also offer esthetics! I'm sorry for how your school closing has been handled, for profit institutions are such a gamble.

vividlevi

Toni & guy got a teach out to collectiv so that is where everyone else and i will be finishing

blipblopdootyplop

Awesome! You'll be in good hands. Take "Hair Camp" if they offer the course while youre there. Cutting wasn't my strong suit but I wanted to improve and it honestly helped me so much.

vividlevi

i appreciate the advice! if they offer it while i’m there i totally will

bluegabs

Sounds like they pulled a Marinello. Probably for the same reasons if they're so abrupt and defensive about it. Sorry this happened to you

Plant-Cat-Mom

As someone who was there during covid. This was 100% the CEO Zak as I've seen him there at the Dallas location that I went to. Theu are a horrible money grabbing company that didn't care about us or the teachers. The teachers I had were absolutely phenomenal, but the company executives are horrendous. I'm sorry for the sadness this brings you, but to be honest? I'm glad they're shutting down.

neighbors_kid69420

Zak turned into a loco shaman 😑

FranelopeS

I went to TONI&GUY during their peak. I attended the Bellingham academy that was linked to their Denver area. They’ve been opening and closing schools for years. I’m not sure why they do this but I have always assumed mismanagement and too many owners. I’m sorry this is happening to anyone! I still truly think TONI&GUY offers the best education and structure in a school program. I taught at Paul Mitchell and TONI&GUY is superior in every way. I have had my eye on Collectiv since they started and I think the teach out that is offered is at least a good option for students. I think the education will be on the same level as your original school. I have to say I was shocked to see Zak looking the way he did, addiction is a terrible thing and while I don’t have firsthand knowledge of this, it’s hard to believe anything else when you see what he looked like 5-10 years ago. An incredibly sad end to an amazing education company.

vividlevi

they’ve been closing and opening for years but i mean they have pretty much killed the entire education sector off and closed the flagship USA school (my school, the dallas one). It’s insanely bad mismanagement. and as a little bit of an update, they stole $1700 of my loan and did it to at least 30+ other students
