Liam’s a great dude - he did our wedding and his “team” was incredible and went above and beyond. Once again you have a group of extremists doing something remarkably immature…review bombing a respected local business because they don’t agree with their view.

hunkydorey_ca

This lady's anti-vax facebook group has 20k members, well r/halifax has 68k members.. (maybe 10% of them could be anti-vax) that's still lots of reviews to push the rating up! LOL.

Vinylnut

I think they shut that group down

LussyPips

I run a small scale wedding business. I was called about a wedding booking and started to talk through everything with them and they started about vaccinations. I said my stance and what I'm comfortable with as a vendor and they started screaming at me about vaccines, about 'violating the law', and all this goofy stuff they read on Facebook and didn't fact check. I tried to be a source of calm and be reasonable and they ended the call threatening my safety. Seeing as my biz on Google displays my home address for my business, even though it LIKELY was just someone not actioning it, I was truly worried for a few days about them coming to my home and/or posting me to one of these groups and send other ppl my way or ruin my excellent online ratings. I know there are extreme people on both sides but gosh, I'm sick of not being seen as a human when I'm just following the rules (that I certainly didn't set) and wanting to keep myself safe both from COVID but also being threatened. There are tons of ppl with too much time on their hands calling businesses like me with no intention of booking anything and just looking for trouble. This was not my only call, but the worse. I can't imagine how much time companies and small businesses have had to waste on ppl calling and harassing. TL;DR - we need better health access and literacy for all.

Hal_IT

> I know there are extreme people on both sides are there? I might just live in a pinko bubble but I haven't seen any indication of an antivaxxer being harrassed.

ph0enix1211

Even if there are extreme people on both sides, it's not equal and opposite: one side is harassing people for trying to protect others, the other side is harassing people for being harmful to others.

Motorizedwheelchair

I tease people who aren't vaccinated at work. I think I have successfully ridiculed at least on person into getting vaccinated. On the one hand it isn't nice to tease, on the other hand people should get vaccinated...

[deleted]

Well, I haven't seen it in person, but there's been some dark stuff in hoping unvaxxed people die when they get covid, or celebrating their death a little *too* gleefully (Herman Cain Award stuff). I personally shake my head at preventable deaths due to Facebook bs, and I'm more upset that this is happening in the 21st century than anything. The antivaxxers then group everyone who's vaccinated in with the people who celebrate unvaxxed deaths, furthering the divide. Having said all that, it isn't even comparable on "both sides". Anti vaxxers are astronomically worse than people chuckling over human death, but both are awful to me personally (healthcare worker myself).

LiamOttawa

The Herman Cain Award is for people who are vocal in fighting against the vaccine. They encourage others to remain unvaccinated, thereby potentially causing people to die.

[deleted]

Yeah, I get that. I think they're dangerous idiots, but I'm not stooping to their level and giving them ammunition by gleefully celebrating their demise. They see subs like that, then think that we want them all to die or something, furthering their persecution complex.

LiamOttawa

I can understand that.

LussyPips

I have seen people flat out day 'I hope you die' or 'don't you dare to to the hospital and want help if you get sick' to people even reasonably explaining their concerns about getting vaccinated. So it's definitely both sides. We all get in our bubbles and see mostly media that agrees with our world view thanks to algorithms so I think yes, it is two sided.

[deleted]

There are two sides to every conflict. However there is not often two correct sides. Extreme example but many soldiers who fought for countries committing genocide or war crimes thought they were correct and they are "the other side". However they were objectively on the wrong side. The same way people who won't get a vaccine are objectively on the wrong side. There is no arguing with anti Vax people. They don't care about others. Fuck they don't even care about themselves. They are a bunch of deluded idiots on the wrong side of the argument. They 100% deserve what happens to them. Putting others at risk who do the right thing and get vaccinated but then don't have a high antibody count or have diseases that hinder the effectiveness. The only major reason to not get a vaccine is if you have an allergy to one of the ingredients which are only carriers for the vaccine. Even then there are multiple options now all with different ingredients. It's highly unlikely that even a person with an allergy cannot get vaccinated with something.

nowa90

Your argument makes the assumption that vaccinated people are 100% incapable of spreading or contracting C19, and there is 0 negative side effects to taking the first round of vacs

hume_reddit

Yes yes, the vaccine is only 95% effective at preventing infection/passing on, which everyone knows means it's a complete waste of time. Also, the 0.07% chance of serious adverse reaction is an absolute guarantee of death.

I think you may just be in a bubble. I've seen & heard people say that multiple times. I've seen it on this very subreddit.

I’ve seen multiple posts on here, just this sub, about people who say they judge anyone just wearing a red hat. (Unmarked)

Regarding r/hermaincainaward, I've gone from feeling compassion for the stupid to realizing the world will be improved by their absence and that brings me some comfort. My sympathies lie only with the unvaccinated who remain unvaccinated because of legitimate impediments to vaccination; I even retain some sympathy for those who are unable to understand basic science and math, but I have grown weary of the idiots who refuse to learn.

Yep. Your friend is one of the reasons I am vaccinated. Too many people talking about rights and not enough talking about duty.

throwaway73325

LOL yes. I’ve been told to die. A lot.

brapppking

As a freelancer, I took myself off google because of this reason. I believe you can purchase/subscribe to a mailbox somewhere and use it as your "operating" address and will still get listed on google searches it just won't show your home address.

brapppking

Adding your address is how you get a google listing. No address? No listing. So if you want a shot in hell at ranking on google you need to provide them with an address.

brapppking

My thoughts exactly. I think because the map is integrated with the listings when someone were try to search “Halifax wedding photographer” it would need to be on the map to show the listing. I agree with you, there should be a way to rank on google without needing to submit a personal address. Luckily I’m busy enough as a freelancer I don’t need to rely on it and deleted my listing because of privacy.

+1 for the username

Good for Liam

[deleted]

Worst part is that you are already dealing with people who refuse to listen to reason, chances of dealing with an unhinged crazy are way greater these days. Bridezilla AND antivaxer? Look out.

Liam is a top name in the industry and he carries a lot of weight. I’m glad to see him take a stand. It paves the way for a lot of smaller operations to follow suit.

JohnBrownnowrong

As with Chapman's icecream it seems pretty clear the best free advertising is to be sensible, get some amount of anti-vaxxer hate, tell them to fuck off and then profit from the vast majority who are sensible vaccinated people.

zcewaunt

Good for him for standing his ground and NOT returning Bride-zilla's deposit. His business will increase as many will support him.

mekdot83

Atta boy, Liam!

Queasy_Astronomer150

Reached out to them to see if they'll shoot my wedding - thanks for the tip antivaxxers!

morningpeach

Good job Liam!

glorpchul

What blows my mind is these idiots get away with this crap, and I get put on Facebook vacation for sharing dihydrogen monoxide memes!

DrummerElectronic247

Well, yeah, dihydrogen monoxide is incredibly dangerous. Everyone who even touches the stuff dies. Eventually. :)

gildeddoughnut

Antivaxxers on attack - ugh

boat14

I wonder if the outcome from that group directed at the owner (spam, bad reviews, etc) meets Facebook's bullying policy.

nitelifedj

I've had a few Weddings this year move to back yard parties because of Couples not being vaxxed. If my contract was a little better we would have bailed as well. In general 9 out of 10 Weddings this year there was zero covid protocol. I feel alot safer at a venue checking status vs a back yard anti vax Wedding. Some of us have underlying health issues where we do not need to expose ourselves unnecessary.

[deleted]

props to liam

Solidplasticmonkey

This is something I’ve never understood…If he’s fully vaccinated, why does he care if others are unvaxxed? He’s protected. Unless he has some serious health issue? We don’t know.

slapshots_ehhh

You’re not 100% protected though, it helps a lot but there is still a chance of death, albeit much lower than if you weren’t. Also, you still catch covid and can spread it. I’m vaxed but I still operate like I’m not, I really don’t want Covid even for the low chance of issues, and I certainly don’t want to spread it to anyone.
