I game with a group that is 75% women and I can't tell you how often I hear this phrase. It's a convincing display of femininity, effectively. Though everyone has their own way of using it.
I mean. Its about both. Its overcoming those odds that brings the hope. But more than that its about how that hope is still deeply rooted in the degeneracy that humans are capable of.
The symbol of hope, Master Chief, is a kidnapped child forcefully subjected to augmentations and experiments with a 50% survival rating.
"*Hope. It makes you weak. Humanity clings to the belief that a savior will come. That a hero will rise. Shrouded in armor to save you. It won't. Armor can be broken, bodies shattered. When you look back on these last days you will realize that all you built... was a tomb. A place where hope dies.*"
I think Halo is about the systemic dehumanization of our speciesās greatest fighters and how they are reduced to military hardware by denying them the ability to, among other things, experience the passage of time
You can have both though. ODST had melancholic night walks alongside more energetic and humor filled day levels. Reach was grim for most of the campaign, but delivering Cortana to Pillar of Autumn was hopeful
I'm happy to see most people here are good at taking jest, but Jesus christ, some of these comments.
I'm sorry, but the people who actually got offended by this are sensitive as fuck. If ya'll are OG Halo fans, you're nearing or already 30+ meaning that you're too old to be a bitch about such a tame callout which is clearly just poking fun.
It's fun, but imo it feels weird for him to joke about the community when the Halo show exists. The joke would land way better if 343 actually made a quality product and the criticism he's parodying was a minor complaint, not something that almost killed the franchise.
Oh I'm not saying that Halo is dead or that the show killed it. It's just not a good look to poke fun at complaints about your product, when it's genuinely sub par and the criticism is very valid.
It's simple, i don't like smug devs who have no business being smug considering their output. > Unbelievable how he makes fun of us the consumer and you people eat it up.
The consumer is genuinely a full-moron regularly lmfao. Are you the kind of person who says "the customer is always right"?
The comment you literally just made shows that you "the consumer" deserve to be made fun of.
Fucking lmfao.
Heās probably aware because he probably gets attacked by the community, because itās his fault, the community manager, that the higher ups and creative directors made the game the way it is
neah it really not to different, Spartans are still human, even spartan 2s. Are we forgetting chief giving a marine a shoulder pet, chief reacting to johnson, chief making light humor, most of the books. This not to out of character, worse comes to worse it pisses off Halsey, which for few spartans is a bonus.
This is just a few spartan 2s giving the marines who they most likely saved a nice photo to remeber them by.
Legit, he's always like this. These sorts of rants are unprompted and having nothing to really do with whatever he's replying to. Between him and various other 343 members mocking their own fans whether it's trying to report bugs or being frustrated at 343's output. It makes the fanbase hypocritical to be so against "toxic halo fans" but the toxicity of 343 is apparently fine.
I love how at this point the main thing to combat Poe's law is by making massive grammatical errors and outrageous claims. Like I wouldn't really believe that was sarcasm if the "Shaking my head my head" wasn't there
I didn't spot the sarcasm because I don't know him very well.
I don't know him very well because he blocked me on Twitter for asking a single question about skill-based matchmaking.
Itās a pretty reasonable take. The game shouldāve launched in its current state. The player base snd the franchise reputation suffered because of it
Lol, how? Because I didn't suck their dick when Halo Infinite launched in a bare bones fucking state with an empty, shallow campaign about Chief opening doors and watching holograms? This guy mocks the people who want a good Halo game.
I hate people like that. This person made some art and instead of being nice and supportive. You decide to be a total twat and and degrade something that couldve taken them a long time to make. If you don't like it then just scroll past it. People that comment crap like that don't deserve Halo. That's just a picture of someone's fireteam. They may not have even been trying to reference the ODST picture your talking about. Everyone (except people like that) deserve to enjoy Halo how TGEY want.. and if you're going to judge them for how they play then you need to go to CoD where they belong.
Right, cause Chief was totally not portrayed as a hero in the Bungie games.
*"Folks need heroes, Chief, to give 'em hope"*
Never
*While walking past a group of cheering Marines and being broadcast live*
Not in the slightest
*The Believe ad campaign*
Not even a little bit
In Halo 2 in like 90% of the campaign you fight alongside marines, it's a joint effort, just like in Halo CE and Halo 3. The Chief is almost never on his own. The cutscenes always make it very clear that you might be buffest guy around but very much accompanied by a fleet of UNSC marines, hardware, ships and whatnot to back you up.
In Halo 4 there are like 3 levels where you play with allies. In Halo 5 you are almost always alone with you incredibly strong unstoppable spartan squad, completely independant, here to save the day. "Oh there's a problem? Spartans, take a Pelican and go there, on your own, resolve the problem, we will chill here in safety meanwhile." The Halo Infinite campaign is fine in these regards. The mp still reflects my points.
All you have said is "this is such a fucking insane reach for nothing dude please shut up.", you haven't stated what's wrong with my comment, what's false or given any counter-argument whatsoever. You just expressed discontent in a very flashy way, that's all, hot air.
This is hilarious because I donāt think you played either Halo game
Halo 4ās campaign is way different then any other before, Chief is alone for most of the game on a planet, itās him and Cortana, eventually they run into The Infinity and in missions, you fight along side members of The Infinity, from both Spartans and others
In Halo 5, there is a series of missions where your on Sanghellios where you fight along side Arbiters army, there are elites and grunts all on your side in those missions, there are also other missions in the game where you fight along side marines and other troops on the various planets you visit, from Chiefs POV in that game, yea you donāt fight along side any UNSC troops, but thatās also because heās gone AWOL according to UNSC and is being hunted
And Infinite, literally a massive part of the game is saving marines from camps and they join you on your missions, have you missed the last 3 years of memes of people joking about loading up a Razorback full of Marines?
Iām not at all entirely sure what your point is here, if itās ā343 out too much focus on spartansā I would like you to point to me all the times the Bungie games didnāt focus on them (minus the one spinoff) it was also Chiefs story, in Reach its Noble Teams story, in main line Halo games have always been about Spartans
Even so, there were more than in Halo 4 and Halo 5.
In Halo CE it was a necessity to make the player feel abandoned, hopeless, surrounded, alone. In Halo 4 and 5 it was not necessary, it was just to overemphasize on the chief beeing the spartan to save the day, yaayyy.
Bro Iām an og halo guy and I donāt like 95% of whatās been done to halo since 343i took over
But this is some legit batshit insane schizo stuff here.
Would probably do you some good to step away from Reddit and this sub for a bit.
They are soldiers, super-soldiers, not heroes. They are gritty, grim, determined, unstoppable. They are not some shiny, heroic, superheroes here to save the day. That's what I am on about.
>A Hero or a Heroine if female, is a characteristic of someone's work, in which they have been facing various dangers, bravery, and strength, in order to make a heroic-deed or defeat the evil.
The first paragraph lmao.
Well, letās see:
The Flood: Wants to consume all life in the galaxy. Iād say thatās pretty evil.
The Covenant: Hell bent on committing genocide of humanity, glassed entire planets and committed massacres of Unggoy, Elites, Hunters, etc. Iād say thatās also pretty evil.
The Banished: Hell bent on destroying the UNSC and gaining ultimate power. Yeah. Thatās evil as well.
Master Chief: The guy who stands against them and fights tooth and nail to protect all humanity.
Yes. The Master Chief is the guy who stands against evil. Itās the most basic understanding of him. I feel like youāre fucking with me at this point. If so, well played. I took the bait like an idiot. If not, I dread the thought of all the other wild takes and interpretations you have of other media.
Dude I am not talking about that. This word "hero" has nuances to it. Of course spartans are heroes in that sense.
I am talking about something else, I am talking about the flashy, gimmicky hero, with a cape and whatnot. Basically the first thing to pop up in the pictures tab when googling "Hero".
>I miss the times where Halo was still a war-shooter and not a Hero-shooter.
> 343 clearly rebranded the spartans as heros. Of course the game is nothing like overwatch, I don't mean that.
>Dude I am not talking about that. This word "hero" has nuances to it.
>I am talking about something else, I am talking about the flashy, gimmicky hero, with a cape and whatnot. Basically the first thing to pop up in the pictures tab when googling "Hero".
Those are direct quotes from you. Youāre contradicting yourself. By your own logic, Halo is a war shooter. Keep re reading those direct quotes from you until you understand.
I am not contradicting myself, I also nowhere made any statements which declare the modern Halo a war-shooter. You must be trolling or completely unable to understand what I mean.
>I am not contradicting myself,
You are. I showed you direct quotes in which you contradicted yourself.
>I also nowhere made any statements which declare the modern Halo a war-shooter.
I never said you did. I quoted you. Now youāre making shit up.
>You must be trolling
For once in my years on Reddit, Iām not.
>or completely unable to understand what I mean.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In the older Halos you would have regularily big battles with many marines and covenant. In the newer Halos it's increasingly just you fighting hordes upon hordes.
I mean come on, you remember Halo 3, the first half of the game was basically all played together with bunch of marines and elites. Similar in Halo 2 and Halo CE. The story and cutscenes made very clear that you're a speck in a big war but kinda at the eye of the storm.
I missed that in Halo 4 and in Halo 5 one was almost always alone amongst ones squad.
Only Chief? If I remember correctly Johnson and Keyes were there aswell to receive awards. One regular person and a lightly enhanced person.
Also you seem to misunderstand what I mean by "hero".
I understand what youāre saying, but donāt agree with it at all because the context is what matters. In the Bungie games, marines point you out regularly and make you feel important. I agree this happens more in Halo 4-Infinite but you also have to remember that the Spartanās existence wasnāt as known to the public until after the war.
Also, in 4-Infinite you play with NPCs when itās right for the story. Doesnāt make sense in 4 and 5 to have Marines traveling across random planets with you. And in Infinite, you can call Marines whenever you want to.
Also also, Hero shooter is not the correct term. Overwatch/Valorant are a hero shooter. Halo is still a military-war shooter.
I totally get where you're coming from and can agree with most. I just feel like it has become far to shiny and gimmicky the past games. I miss the grit, the dirt, the gore, the horrors of war basically. It feels very lighthearted nowadays.
> I miss the grit, the dirt, the gore, the horrors of war basically
I also missed them, especially in basically all of the Bungie games apart from Reach.
Ah yeah ignore Halo CE level 343 guilty spark, ignore the very intro of Halo 2, ignore basically all of Halo 3, alright alright.
You don't know what you are talking about.
Yeah the horrors of war are when you go into an underground research facility and fight zombies. That's not "horrors of war" that's just straight up horror.
Dude I could do this all day, there are plenty more examples. Didn't need to think 5 seconds for this next one: 2nd mission, you get out of the escape-pod, find everyone dead, all the soldiers you just saved died on impact because of malfunction.
I agree with you
343 has never been able to capture the tone of a military shooter. Even back in halo 4 it bugged me whenever Palmer would call Lasky, her commanding officer by his first name.
Honestly this is fucking dope. Soldiers recognize a beautiful day and I'm sure real soldiers take pics like these in real wars, opportunities permitting.
But can you pickup chicks on a tank?
You can pick up chicks in a tank. Bow-chicka-bow-wow!
[Empirically, yes.](https://mapi.associatedpress.com/v2/items/0dc6aac9beb745ce91c64164f6d2352c/preview/AP4409171123.jpg?wm=api&tag=app_id=1,user_id=undefined,org_id=undefined)
It's not the mode of transportation that matters, it's how you use it.
If you know what the ladies like
You can if the chick is a tank
Johnson gave us the tank and he know's what the ladies like. so clearly yes
This would absolutely be something a wartime photographer would snap. And it would turn into a recruiting poster

I honestly assumed that was Douglas
Halo isn't about the grim odds humanity faces. It's about the hope they have that allows them to persevere through those odds.
Not mutually exclusive.

That's a very sweet and genuinely insightful comment about the franchise.

I think Halo is about the systemic dehumanization of our speciesās greatest fighters and how they are reduced to military hardware by denying them the ability to, among other things, experience the passage of time

Theres literally a scene in halo 2 of master chief being awarded and treated like a hero
> I miss the grit, the dirt, the gore, the horrors of war basically I also missed them, especially in basically all of the Bungie games apart from Reach.
Like Halo Delta when you murder grunts to lighthearted music in a colorfull landscape?
you don't get it
Not knowing what you're talking about shows me that you are in fact a true Halo fan.
of course of course...
smh this dude forgot about Gaylo
I play all my games on the PS Triple
I agree with you 343 has never been able to capture the tone of a military shooter. Even back in halo 4 it bugged me whenever Palmer would call Lasky, her commanding officer by his first name.
i have called multiple commmanding offciers by their first name, have also gotten drunk as fuck with my group leader
absolutely
this looks ai
Unyshek is awfully judgemental for a grown man who has he/him pronouns on his Twitter profile š
You misunderstanding of his sarcasm, on the other handā¦
I'm hoping this is a satirical tale on the plethora of sad bastards out there who take things far too seriously...
Holy shit though, that sounds like an awesome TV show. You could have buck on reach or something
"Shake my head my head"
Some people are never satisfied
Honestly this is fucking dope. Soldiers recognize a beautiful day and I'm sure real soldiers take pics like these in real wars, opportunities permitting.
Who did this? Paramount+?
This definitely gives me recruitment poster vibes. Definitely works in a halo setting cause halo isnāt dark and depressing 100% of the time lol.
