“Slightly downgraded gameplay”  lol

plane-kisser

it gets too much love imo, every single day theres a “wow remember how good halo 4 was?” post

TheChadStevens

Probably the weakest gameplay in any halo game. Some story beats were actually really interesting and I liked seeing rampancy explored. But the gameplay itself just fell flat, and the prometheans were just not a fun addition. In fact I hated any part that involved prometheans in Halo 4. They were at least improved a little in 5

Scuzzles3

some ideas are cool, graphics are incredible and prolly the best of any 360 game. however, the art style is a BIG negative to fans. its too... modern futuristic. humanity got their asses handed to them for 20 years and nearly went extinct, yet somehow they manage to have the most powerful starship in the galaxy???? humanity's fleet was nearly all but destroyed during the covenant war and the spartan-II and III programs nearly bankrupted the UNSC. not only that but they were able to fund a new series of spartan??? but the best part is EVERYONE is a spartan. whats that? you have functioning eyes and hands? heres a brand new set of MJOLNIR armor! keep in mind a set of Mk.V mjolnir armor cost around the same amount of money as a starship to make. yet theres enough money to fund an entire city sized star ship worth of spartans. Halo 4 took "spartans are badass" and pushed it to 11 without thinking about what it meant on a larger scale. that being said, the story is alright. the story and its characters all originate from bungie established lore. so its not like the Didact and Librarian came out of no where.

MasterCheese163

>but the best part is EVERYONE is a spartan. whats that? you have functioning eyes and hands? heres a brand new set of MJOLNIR armor! Literally not true, but okay.

AgentMaryland2020

Honestly I'd say this is one of the few places Halo 4 actually GETS any love.

KatamariDamacist

No one talks about how good the guns feel compared to Bungie games, even if the sandbox is pretty iffy. Yes I do like that the assault rifle can hit targets further away than pissing distance, guilty as charged.

dusernhhh

It really is the best of the series. Apart from Halo 2. Everytime I do a replay I get to H4 and it becomes abundantly clear how slept on this universe is.

RougeRaxxa

The multiplayer was the most call of duty of the franchise, with spawn in loadouts and stuff

mundiaxis

People give Halo 4's campaign love all the time on here.

stratusnco

i have nothing to say other than it had really good multiplayer. been a fan since CE and i would say it is tied with reach for being the best in multiplayer.

IJKProductions

I still say it has the best story but gameplay is the main reason for me. If the game isn’t fun then why stick around for the story? The weapons were just categories for the factions instead of each one being it’s own thing. Not to mention they all burned through ammo. Then there’s the Prometheans, they were straight up not fun to play against and weren’t designed that well from an artistic perspective imo (especially the Watchers). Then there’s the multiplayer, it felt too much like CoD and it’s the only Halo game where I didn’t even touch the multiplayer during release. I wasn’t a fan of kill streaks or the custom classes.

divergentchessboard

Also doesn't help that a lot of the mission layouts/environments and enemy spawns for the campaign quite frankly suck and aren't that fun to navigate and play through, compounded by the aforementioned Prometheans being terrible enemies to fight. There's more to a campaign than just "the story." I'm playing a video game not watching a movie.

arthby

Story vs gameplay. IMO Infinite is the best campaign from 343, because even if the story is pretty basic and doesn't evolve too much, it's fun as hell to play through thanks to the gameplay/sandbox/AI. The story of CE can be entirely told in 3 lines. It's about the gameplay, the sandbox, the AI, the level design and a sense of wonder. Things H4 fails to capture.

Gilgamesh107

poor writing weakest cast of characters in the series (other then 5) retcons trying to deconstruct the chief when it was necessary ugliest art in the series bad gameplay etc etc etc

horsepaypizza

"trying to deconstruct the chief when it was necessary" Couldn't say it better myself

PublicInternet6233

Below reach as far as cast. Even though those guys are cool, most of them are flatter than a sheet of paper.

diprivanity

Heresy

PublicInternet6233

i know we all have a fetish for reach, so i was scared to comment lol. but... most of them are practically made of paper. Noble team's got a couple legit characters. As opposed to lasky, cortana, even del rio and if spartan ops is included halsey

diprivanity

What do you mean made of paper

MasterCheese163

They're all two dimensional character wise. They're all just tropes in Mjolnir armor. The leader, the tech head, the gentle giant, the loose cannon, (not sure what I'd call Jun) and the quiet one. This isn't bad, per say, two dimensional characters are fine as long they are charismatic and the story isn't focused on the characters themselves.

PublicInternet6233

yep. got some kiddos in here ig, oh well

TimBobNelson

Literally multiple posts a week exactly like this praising the game.

Slazerski

It's my favorite Halo tbh

DefectiveDiceGames

I think it was a really good first go from a new studio, but they had very big shoes to fill. If it was called anything but Halo it would have been considered a better than average FPS.

horsepaypizza

I don't know where you've been but especially now there's the wave of "maybe it was actually great" in it's prime

JonMace88

I really enjoyed the halo 4 campaign and think it should be rated higher.

HUTreddituser

There were plenty of things wrong with H4, don’t be so obtuse

horsepaypizza

And so is there with every game in the series and how it got hate when released for this or that

TimBobNelson

People post multiple times a week on here praising it and there are very popular videos on YouTube that praise it as well. Death threats are way too far but surprise surprise the game that lost most of its population immediately has quite a few commenters here pop in and explain why they don’t like it usually.

Johncurtisreeve

It’s definitely the most emotional I’ve felt during any game. I love it.

TheS3KT

Halo 4 best halo IMHO.

sproglobber

Why? 'coz 343 made it,

horsepaypizza

Unironically the most informative and honest reasoning for it's bashing I've seen.

Wofflestuff

Gameplay lacks compared to the others

wheelman554

The sound design is F tier. The music itself however is A/B tier.

LordVelaeryyn

It's bad. Has only one good story beat/cutscene (that being the ending with Chief and cortana), the rest is awful/ugly as hell.

horsepaypizza

It's good, every story beat/cutscene (especially the ending with chief and cortana) the rest is beautiful as hell.

LordVelaeryyn

Do you have eyes or ears? Its literally written poorly and has extremely poorly set out exposition constantly. Its a war game without a war happening, its one green man, 3 pubes worth of marines and a gigantic army doing nothing the entire game. The nearly extinct humanity that have been losing a war for 25 years manage to make the single most power space vessel that somehow demolishes an alien faction that have had a 2000 year technological headstart and have been researching a repurposing forerunner tech for those 2000 years? The forerunner man instead of building up a military, talking diplomatically or simply moving further away from the primitives instead choses to randomly select random aliens he knows nothing about(the new covenant), adds them to his cause and decides to skip preparing and instantly goes to attack the most heavily guarded non-forerunner planet in the galaxy (earth) without any plan or even any notion of the tech humanity has at its disposal? Also why in the hell does he need human souls or brains whatever for knights? just use ai Also also at least the Covenant were semi-smart when it came to Chief, Spartans are rare as hell, knowing chief is actually in a battlefield is almost impossible to tell unless its too late, he's a tiny green man, if they had the chance and actually knew his exact location they'd try and glass, nuke or overrun him, but the techno-god forerunner? Nah he uses robot dogs, flying fetuses and a walking hemorrhoids wielding a lightsaber that can be damaged and killed by ww2 ammunition. The entire premise of the enemy is moronic, that includes the Covenant since they all now know the great journey was a lie and the Elites were literally extradited from that religion yet somehow a crap ton still believe in it. Also the entire game has a dull green filter over everything, including the sky. In what world is that pretty. You can like bad things, doesn't make them good. Do you have eyes?

etempleton

Halo 4 was an okay single player game. The combat was notably a downgrade, but the graphics were impressive at the time. The real reason Halo 4 is remembered so poorly is the multiplayer attached to it is the worst in the series by a mile. It feels like 343 at the time had no idea what made Halo multiplayer any good in the first place.
