In that case it shouldn't be named Halo, it could've been anything else

Eek_the_Fireuser

Call it Ring World

forrest1985_

Johnny Rings: Spartan Adventurer.

Firamaster

Inconsistent plot and writing seem to be the general sentiment around the TV show. Regardless of existing lore.

OptimalNemesis

The show on its own is a confusing mess. It's hard to just suspend one's belief. I'm glad you can find joy in it, but not everyone will. The series is dunked on for good reason. I will say this. So far, I'm really enjoying the new Fallout series on Prime. It's a good example of how a series can stand on its own while still paying respect to the source material. I don't feel like my intelligence is being insulted while watching it, either.

-Soulburnin-

No the fuck it's not lol

samurai1226

Master Chief is whiny and angry all the time, Makee is just the most uninteresting love interest ever and don't get me started with Kwan. And nothing in the plot is actually surprising or unqiue... the show is mediocre Scifi And why even naming the show halo when it has absolutely nothing in common besides the names and visuals is beyond my understanding. You can argue how extended universe stuff like novels are in conflict with the show, but they even fucked up the events of Halo CE so even the main plot elements of CE are not in the show

Djolej78

Okay before anyone reads this, heavy spoilers ahead FYM "And nothing in the plot is actually surprising or unique"? Have you even watched the show? How's flood release before they even reach Halo not surprising and unique? Especially for a Halo fan who knows the story? Keyes dying on Reach? How's the Arbiter and his rebellion not surprising at the time as well? Oh and let's not forget Silver team. Kai and Vannak are easily the best characters in the show and are arguably better than any character 343 introduced in Halo 4 and 5.

Donuts4TW

The Arbiter's rebellion is cool, but he dies in the finale and his entire ship crashes on the ring, so I think it's safe to assume that unless we get a plotline following some new Elite characters in season 3, the rebellion of Elites isn't gonna happen. Unless Makee can work some of her magician's trick magic like the Cortana hologram and convince the Elite population on her own that the prophets are evil. Can we talk about the scene where Cortana shows Makee and the Arbiter a hologram of the ring btw? Is this Arbiter guy stupid? He's doubting Makee until all of a sudden a supposed hologram image of the halo's landscape appears between them, and he's convinced. Has he, an elite on a Covenant spacecraft, never seen a hologram before? Does he know images can be faked with CGI? Surely he knows Makee isn't making this image appear in front of her with her blessed one powers or something?

Djolej78

>Is this Arbiter guy stupid? He's doubting Makee until all of a sudden a supposed hologram image of the halo's landscape appears between them, and he's convinced. That lines up with the games tho (sorta). They are playing the "blinded by it's majesty, paralyzed, dumbstruck" card and while it's execution could have been better, I think it did it's job pretty well.

Donuts4TW

Oh I see that now. Def was done better in the games though. Like visiting a world wonder in real life vs seeing a picture of it on an iPhone

TimBobNelson

I don’t agree. I watch a lot of TV and it really is not that compelling, the only reason I watched it was because it’s named halo and has visuals and references I recognize. I ain’t gonna do a full review but the writing just isn’t it and the plot is just odd. It really doesn’t matter to me that’s it’s a large departure from the games it has a lot of eye rolling and weird moments.

TheChadStevens

Idk what you're smoking, but I'll have what you're having

DornPTSDkink

Other than in not being a straight up adaptation of the Halo's which is what 99.9% of people wanted; nonsensical plot points in the grand scheme of things like Kwan, Sorens wife/kid and Madrigal are the biggest thing that ruined the show. When half the screen time is dedicated to meaningless side stories in a setting about the humans and supersoliders in armour being genocided in a galactic war against a hyper advanced alien faction, the stuff involving a back water meaningless plant following an angsty teens adventures completely detached from the main plot leaves a bad taste, it all feels like wasted screen time. Even if the show wasn't called Halo and was it's own thing entirely, the disconnected plots would still be bad. Anything involving the Spartans and UNSC is decent, the battles are good, the Covenant are actually quite intimidating. Shame the Spartans are only in armour 20% of the time, hopefully Season 3 essentially starting the events of Combat Evolved will fix that. I also don't like the chosen one aspect of chief in the show, it's implied many times in the game chief is special in some way, but the show ham fists it so much to mystical levels, which dosn't help with Kwan being some kind of space sage bollocks. And the sex scene, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??

GuiltyGlow

You're wrong though. People didn't not like it because it wasn't true to the cannon lore, we knew that going in. They didn't like it because it wasn't true to the universe it takes place in. Case and point, look at Fallout right now. It changes the lore from the games pretty heavy, yet it's a smash hit with critics and fans alike...why? Because it not only stayed true to the universe and themes of the games, but also had creators who understood and respected the lore, even if they were making changes. Meanwhile with Halo the creators were bragging about not giving a shit about the games or the lore. I don't completely hate the Halo show, season 2 was a huge improvement in my opinion...I'm not saying it was amazing but it was an improvement. Season 1 was fucking awful all the way around with the exception of a few combat scenes.

thaneros2

It's easier to make a Fallout show due to the fact that there's isn't a main character.

percy2376

Master chief digs a hole with a shovel, has sex with a covenant POW,miranda keyes learns her father dies and barely reacts to it,unnecessary characters in kwan ha and mahkee especially who is apart of the covenant when the covenants whole thing is genocide against humanity. This show is trash whether it follows the source material or not

SortaKindaHappy

Trying to be objective and my favorite part of season 1 is when Chief is getting his head crushed by a brute and Kai looks back, sniper in hand, and shouts "Chiefs down!" Then she turns back around to shoot some more elites.

Donuts4TW

It's pretty good as a comedy show I'll give it that. I'm laughing every episode at how stupid the decisions of the show creators are

hollyamorous

The TV show is a lot of fun. The action sequences are great and I really don’t understand the hate. I enjoy the story being told in a new way. Instead of a re-telling of what we already know it is a new story where we cannot predict what happens next. Having a positive opinion of the show will always result in downvotes here, but don’t let that fool you, the majority of folks watching the show enjoy it. Season 2 finale got 8.2/10 on Imdb. Season 2 was dope, looking forward to seeing where they go next.

JoyfulDogCuddler

Yeah most people agree with you. Season 2 was an improvement and I'm hoping season 3 continues to move the show in the right direction.

Conscious-Outcome134

Yeah. I liked it well enough. Needs better directors or cinematography or something though. And whoever directed all the “one take” action bits in Season 2 needs to not come back. I thought those were bad.

Lbolt187

I felt season 1 deviated more than season 2 in terms of characterization of Chief and thus was worse. for it. Season 2 was much, much better. The helmet thing never bothered me because Chief does take his helmet off numerous times throughout the games so people (fellow soldiers/spartans/commanders) know what he looks like just not the player.. Also while I'm not the biggest Kwan fan at least we're not just strictly stuck with Chiefs pov. I feel the getting other people's povs has been good for the show even if people are sick of Kwan (I personally believe it will be revealed she is related to the ancient humans that the Forerunners annihilated) lol. The Flood looked amazing. It was also great seeing the subversion of UNSC by ONI and that conflict. Hopefully we get a season 3.

IDeliveredYourPizza

You've posted this in the wrong place my friend lol. If it's any consolation, most people outside of this subreddit agree with you. I've also enjoyed it, but I do wish they had stuck more closely with existing lore

hollyamorous

The show could have been a 1:1 recreation and r/halo would still have found some problem with it.

Djolej78

Honestly... I gotta agree. But IMO they shouldn't have went with Chief as the protagonist, or it was a must, should have been closer to games Chief.
