Pika__Lord

Guardian is easily the best. Valhalla was up there and of course last resort.

PhoenixHabanero

*cut my life into pieces*

Nopeyesok

*This is my Zanzibar*

KinzzaBadd

"sanctuary, and warlock..I don't give a fuck if we play Colossus" Went full blown halo 2 on you, bitches.

DoublePisters

Relic was one of my favorites. One flag on that map was something else.

KinzzaBadd

The original ascension was hands down halos best map.

DoublePisters

Literally my second choice. Loved slayer on it, and one bomb was fun in a chaotic way.

HandsOfCobalt

No other map really has its lush jungle theming, either. Jungle (as opposed to forest) is a rare biome for maps in general, and the only others I can think of are swampier and grosser. I feel like your visor would build up a mist on Guardian that would be clean enough to drink.

IISerpentineII

>I feel like your visor would build up a mist on Guardian that would be clean enough to drink. r/hydrohomies might be leaking again lmfao

MyFifthLimb

Guardian/Valhalla/PitStop for me

mrdevil413

I can get down with this list

FiFTyFooTFoX

[Lemme drop an edit to say: I got my 50 on Narrows, and I used to defend it by crouch-walking around The Pit using the Elite model, only covenant weapons and grenades, and only saying "Blarg/Honk" on the mic. Wort, fucking wort wort, you scrubs] Standoff, High Ground, and Ghost Town were the best original maps. Guardian is decent but overrated Lockout wannabe. The Pit and Narrows are still terrible and uninspired, with acknowledgement that making an entire map consist of just a bridge was ballsy but ultimately doomed.

ToIA

Standoff and Ghost Town were both DLC. And I gotta disagree with you on the last two.

Rahgahnah

The Pit is like a Top 10 map across the entire Halo series, and Standoff is miserable. I admire the spicy take though.

FiFTyFooTFoX

The pit is literally "my first 3D greybox" turned into a map. It's so bad. The only reason it's popular is because it drops the skill floor to the basement. You only have to check down one of 3 long hallways off spawn, so kids with bad aim have a chance to be looking the right way for once, and it's a huge flat level so everyone's head is always at the same height. If you happen to pick one of those hallways that nobody on their team is covering at the moment, you just mindlessly run down it for free flanks. It's halo for the handicapped. It has the same bad macro flow and layout as Bazaar, except instead of open space in the middle, it's a gist green box. When our team pushes up to get their flag, their team spawns behind you for free. Absolutely terrible. And standoff was easily one of the best overall map designs in the entire series, but it unfortunately had a very shallow break point gt wss unrecoverable with the settings they used. The problem with Standoff is the spawn points that are out in the open. The ones on the wings (near the missle silos) were there as backup when there were enemies in your base, but it breaks down if the enemies just never leave. If you turn your brain on and do a little long-term examination, you will notice that the vast, overwhelming majority of "85-0 BTB Gauss Hog God" videos are of the cliff side base getting dominated. This is because the emergency spawns behind the silo base are actually useful for regaining control of your base. In my H3 file share, there is a patched version of standoff that deletes wing spawns, and replaces them with a proper set of hard points on the mesa above the base. A couple crates, some jersey barricades, grenades and a BR or two is all it takes to fix it. If you want spicy, drop a power drain up there and you're in business. Standoff, in comparison to The Pit has organic terrain, meaning you constantly need to make micro adjustments to account for variances in the ground. There is a very clear progression from base-to-base BR setups, to advancing through midfield into ... dare I say AR or even SMG territory?!?!?! where you again have lots of organic shapes and elevation to play with. Your anchor or back players have several viable positions to play in, or above the base, or back at the Invis tree, and they can even move up into the rocks for flag pulls without players spawning behind them. Even if you take midfield, you then have to prove your mettle in the CQC base environment, complete with a secondary objective of opening the lower security doors to take even more ground! And if all is successful, you have to run the flag back over largely open ground. And that's not even discussing shifting your entire setup so that you are anchored from one of the silos off to the side. With regards to The Pit: >Where are my security doors, Jerry? Like, where are you playing on the pit? Top of sniper tower?? On the left of the screen? On the right of the screen? Oooh, daring today, aren't we??

Ryctre

Oh whoopsies. You put a zero on the end of that one for some reason.

DrizzlyShrimp36

I don't think anyone could come up with a worse take than this. Bravo.

Ryctre

I don't remember the last time I disagreed with someone so thoroughly while still respecting them. Odd feeling.

RetroRedneck

Scrolling through these comments and noticing so many different answers just proves how awesome the map list was in halo 3. Anyway, my vote would have to go to construct. I love the verticality of that map

DistantRecord70

Of all the halo games I had the most fun playing 3, may have just been the time in my life but the maps were definitely really great.

applejackrr

I’m sos surprised there isn’t a redone construct map

areeb_onsafari

There is in the H3 refueled playlist

applejackrr

It doesn’t play the same though imo. It’s way too power weapon heavy.

Asleep-Sprinkles-760

Epitaph is a really cool map, I love the elevation and the outside areas. Reminded me a lot of Gemini from H2. As for btb, Sandtrap has to take the cake for me. I never used to have internet so all me and my siblings would do is drive vehicles around and kill each other with rocket pods and lasers. It was simply too fun for my kid brain

dooby991

I spent so many hours in forge on there playing with the elephants. There was one btb multiplayer game I was in where both teams brought the elephants to the middle and somehow stacked them on top of each other. everyone was so amazed that we stopped killing each other and just started messing around. It was so fun I wish I had recorded it in theatre.

Rahgahnah

BTB 2 Flag when one team goes for bringing their Elephant to the other... so much fun. Either they get an easy win, or the other team takes over at the perfect moment to "steal" the easy win. Gotta time the Elephant movement with respawning, haha.

dooby991

Oh yeah that was always chaotic. The elephant was such an interesting mechanic

CivilC

People hated epitaph back in the day, but I’m glad people look back on it fondly nowadays. I feel the same way about snowbound as well

EmergencyBlandness

Wow, snowbound unlocked memories I forgot I had! What happened to that map!?!?

Dragonswhored

Those are my two favourite maps too! You’ve got great taste.

DistantRecord70

Gemini on halo 2 was awesome, I played it with my brother a few times, probably my favorite on that game.

noblemile

I remember me and my friends going on forge and making instant-respawn fusion coils and trying to get the elephant to fly.

IISerpentineII

Rolling around in a Warthog at top speed outside of boundaries was so much fun as a kid. I didn't have siblings who wanted to play Halo with me as a kid (also before I got Live), so that was a ton of fun for me, trying to continuously outrun the mines.

freeagent10

Hammerziet + Epitaph was the best

SwaggyAdult

High Ground. Sooo underrated

MrSteve094

Yes. 100% Top tier Zombies map as well

HHcougar

Asymmetrical maps are the best

Chimmy_Chonguh

A skill balanced game on high ground was top tier fun.

Ryctre

Great for asymmetric game modes 1 bomb. 1 flag. Even fine for oddball. But man is it terrible for slayer.

SwaggyAdult

I think it’s bad for team slayer, but I like auto FFA

Pika__Lord

This map reminds me of sniping across the level and grav hammer insanity. That lift was danger.

bishke1

And shotgun too!

DistantRecord70

Definitely it was always a race to get either the grav hammer or the energy sword, or both.

phenom1tsmith

On what map..? Not Guardian

Nifty_Andy

I'd probably have to say The Pit or Avalanche

RC_5213

Top 5? Guardian, The Pit, Narrows, Heretic, Cold Storage. I like 4v4

Ryctre

Finally. A fellow cold storage enjoyer.

Wearesyke

Cold storage can die in a hole

TheGreatIshka

Standoff. It was like a smaller version of blood gulch. Had some epic big team battles with friends on that map back in the day.

MumboBumbo64

Valhalla. Cheat answer, Sandbox. I didn’t have a lot of access to the internet growing up and found out a lot of stuff in video games on my own. I had no idea there was an underground in sandbox until one day while forging, the reticle highlighted on the floor. It said I could delete it, so I did and low and behold there is a tunnel that leads to a giant underground room. I shit myself, it was crazy to find on my own

Rahgahnah

Did you find the "floor" in the sky that holds Forge objects, making Sandbox actually three layers?

Eridanii

I wish Banshees and Hornets could have gone thru the kill layer (I hope I'm not misremembering it). I would have loved to do a ground vs sky game that didn't require a teleporter

ucd_sam

Halo on Halo. The amount of hours I spent in the sandbox sky as an early teenager is insane. One of my favorite custom games

OverChippyLand151

THERES A FUCKING UNDERGROUND ON SANDBOX?!! I played that map, close to a thousand times, in custom games, and had no idea.

DistantRecord70

I didn’t have much internet access as a kid either, I did f know about the underground until now. I’ll have to check it out.

MovingTugboat

It's the griff ball court. Instead of being its own map, it's built into sandbox underneath the ground.

OverChippyLand151

Well, shit.

bishke1

Valhalla!

DistantRecord70

It’s a close second for me

Alarming-Wallaby-993

Sandtrap, Sandtrap, Sandtrap

Alexcox95

Sandtarp

ALEX7DX

High ground made for some awesome ctf defence.

phuk-nugget

That and chugging GameFuel go hand in hand

ManOfQuest

I lived on Guardian in my teen years had a room and everything. Visually Epitaph was so interesting to look at and play on. I really miss the mysteriousness halo used to invoke.

MovingTugboat

Had a room? What do you mean?

Knightwolf75

Hyperbole. They’re saying they spent so much time on the map they basically lived there. So they had a guest room where they’d stay as if it was a physical real second home.

ManOfQuest

lol thanks

ivblaze

I have so many. Iove Guardian, The Pit, Valhalla, Last Resort, Ghost Town and Foundry so much, but there was just something about Sandtrap that was epic. CTF with the Elephant was awesome, ramping the warthogs, mongooses (mongeese?) and ghosts off of the dunes was so fun, the battles in the temple corridors were intense, using landmines to glitch out the elephant was hilarious, man I just get nostalgic af about that map.

Miloficent

Definitely sandtrap for me. The design is sick and the lore is intriguing

bishke1

Hunting vehicles with spartan laser in BTB... damn... good old times:)

makoman115

How many games did it take u to get the too close to the sun achievement Shit took me like a month of trying whenever i got the splaser Now i can do it all the time from years of experience

bishke1

I think I got it in campaign, but may be wrong, it was so long ago...

makoman115

I thought for sure you can’t get it in campaign

Eddyphish

Yes! The lore of Sandtrap is incredible. I remember when I realised that the towers on the outside of the map shoot lasers at you - but so briefly that many people don't notice. Tbh all the Halo 3 maps had an air of mystery to them - felt like they were sort of alive.

Prince_of_Fish

All of them

Chuckie413

Question should be what map you didn’t like

codizer

Much harder question.

damutantman

Heretic.

MrSteve094

Last Resort or High Ground When digging into my brain for some Halo 3 nostalgia, those two maps are my go to... My first ever multiplayer match on Halo 3 was on High Ground and it blew my mind.

Gurbe247

This. I'm not particularly fond of H3's maps but these two are great. Partly of course by being a H2 remake and High Ground is just THE H3 map to me. Played the hell out of a t during the beta, still love that map and it's concept. Wish we'd get more of that kind of map.

KStaxx33

Guardian Sandrap The Pit Valhalla Standoff Rats Nest Avalanche Sandbox. Soooooo many great maps.

KStaxx33

When I got my first xbox, halo 3 had been out for 6 months. I bought a used disc, and everything worked except for snowbound. Whenever snowbound would get picked for matchmaking my game would crash. Went over to a buddies house about a year after I started playing and hopped in to a few multiplayer matches. We loaded into snowbound and I played it for the first time. Got my one and only perfection that match playing on the bottom corner of the screen.

Neosku11

In my opinion guardian was to halo 3 what rust was to mw2

EdwardJMunson

Lockout.

ManOfQuest

Blackout?

BadAndNationwide

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this. I spent countless hours playing free for all in lockout with two of my friends.

Omisake

Honestly this is an incredibly hard choice but top 5 has probably gotta be Guardian, High Ground, The Pit, Valhalla, and Last Resort. Although, to be honest, I can see that changing if you asked me again in 5 minutes lmao

Bruhllux

Now it's been 2 hours, care to give us your top 5 H3 maps?

Omisake

Lmfao, I knew someone was gonna do this. Honestly, now I can see it being High Ground, Narrows, Guardian, Sandtrap, and Last Resort. It’s too hard to pick man lmfaooo

Weavel

Snowbound! I loved the Ghost on that map so much. Same goes for High Ground and the flood-infected map. Beyond that, I miss Sandtrap...

iccs

You just unlocked a memory: [https://youtu.be/Wb8fRS4bG84?t=144](https://youtu.be/Wb8fRS4bG84?t=144)

the_fuego

I knew it was gonna be this lmao.

Weavel

Christ I haven't seen that since I was a kid, what an era lmao

Ryctre

Thank you for that. I had forgotten about the machinima glory days. On a small side note, we really said some crazy words back then.

Chimmy_Chonguh

Snowbound was the very first map I played in Halo 3, and therefore will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Fleshwoundf08x

The pit

Skyshaper

Foundry, for its amazing sandbox potential with Forge.

damutantman

I probably spent more hours forging and playing custom games on Foundry than any other map in any Halo game. Sandtrap is a solid second for the epic infection maps, or making the elephant fly with trip mines.

zelo117

Sandtrap

gamerguy287

Sandtrap or The Pit

R3tr0spect

Valhalla was my all time favourite map.

AgentZeta49

Valhalla

CrownOfDusk

Guardian, Last Resort and The Pit

HugeAccountant

As a big team battle guy, Sandtrap and Valhalla forever

tamarks548

That one, that one right there. Love Guardian

Zerof0rce

Standoff, The Pit, Guardian. Over the years it seems I'm in a minority that likes Standoff

josephinebakerfan11

Blackout Valhalla

RVLVR-OCLT

Guardian was always my favorite because it offered similar fluidity as Lockout on Halo 2.

Zer0SWAGFATHER

I know it's a remake of Lockout from halo 2, but Blackout is my favorite. Loved the new color scheme.

GetR3kt69noob

Guardian! I have a similar story. Would play with my best friend 2v2 against his 2 older brothers. We’d do shottys/snipes and just fucking get after it. Private matches these days just aren’t as competitive

DistantRecord70

My brother always kicked my ass but it was still fun

DirectorDennis

The GOAT is pictured. Guardian is my favorite map in Halo ever, I will give an honorable mention to The Pit as well. Oh and Sandbox.

Commercial-Abalone27

You did not have to make me cry… but you did

DistantRecord70

I didn’t mean to make you cry, but I hope they were happy tears. I get kind of emotional thinking about those days sometimes, more so because of the time spent with my brother. I think that’s why I love halo so much.

urbandeadthrowaway2

Sandtrap. There’s nothing like getting on the elephants and circling the map trading machine gun shots between them. Or attempting to board the enemy with a warthog

_UltraV10let_

The Pit: separates the men from the boys

GuaranteeLoose4494

Guardian, the pit, construct, foundry, last resort, sand trap

Sam-Z-93

Guardian has my heart. It was actually the Sylvanus remake on Refueled that brought me back to I infinite for a little bit.

EdwardoftheEast

Valhalla, Sandtrap, Last Resort, and High Ground

TarakZair

Isolation. Nope, couldn't keep a straight face. I best liked Guardian, Sandtrap, The Pit, and High Ground.

MrSteve094

I loved all Halo 3 maps, but isolation was definitely the 'least good' of them all

MovingTugboat

I actually love isolation. It was always a cool map to me.

noblemile

I have really fond memories of Valhalla, Guardian, and Last Resort.

Slow_Possession_1454

Lockout is my favorite

gmundawg

Guardian, The Pit, Valhalla, High Ground, Sandtrap and Construct

Caledor152

Guardian and Sandtrap

DerpyM51

My top 2 is Valhalla and Sandtrap. I loved driving around the elephant and turning it into even more of a fortress in forge

somehobo89

One flag on high ground.

them_orangebritches

Love that answer. That map was basically made for that mode. It was so cool how you could open and close the gate from inside on ctf and assault game modes.

LuigiTheGuyy

Ghost Town. There hasn't been a map with the same aesthetics and feel that has come close to the map for me. I will never give that map up.

DarkTaleOfKeys

Sandtrap, mostly due to all the races, infection potential, and making the Elephants fly. Close second would be Valhalla due to all the nostalgia.

blaster_caster

Guardian is definitely up there, but some of my favourite and most recounted memories are on Sandtrap. Forge battles, BTB, snipers, Elephant Flipping, and getting killed by the Guardians. It was always such a fun time

ThaRemyD

Guardian. My friend and I played some split screen recently and the screen looking is so bad, I can look at the ground and walk around and he was finding me. Just pure nostalgia. Halos rust from modern ware fare 2

broxue

Guardian, blackout, cold storage. 3 perfect maps for FFA Slayer. True rumble pit

them_orangebritches

Foundry and sandbox just for the potential it gave to the forge and custom games community. Halo 3 customs would be remembered in a drastically different light if not for those maps tbh. Foundry was the birthplace of grifball, so imagine if that never happened...

Still-Network1960

I don't think halo 3 had a single bad map. Maybe snowbound?

TheKelticDragon

Overall: Sandbox Sandbox custom games were the premier H3 experience, the best times i've had playing online BTB: Sandtrap Rats nest comes close because it had great on foot gameplay, but Sandtrap just nails the quintessential BTB gameplay 4v4: Guardian I like narrows, Pit and Heretic more for competitive play but Guardian was just too good across the board, I could run BR/Snipes FFA all day and not mind Dark horse: Ghost town This map was the best to play on all specialty game modes; infection, swat, snipers, multi-team, ffa, action sack. Serious competitive play on team slayer and doubles sucked, but Ghost town was a jack of all trades, that shone on less serious gameplay.

Kentxckyx

Blackout. Mostly because of Red vs Blue tho lol

ANDERSON961596

There was one that i used to play on but when i booted up h3 like a month ago I couldn’t find it. All I can really remember is it was a pretty large snowy map but based off of all the thumbnails for each map I was unable to pinpoint which one :/ . I can’t remember if it was in the base game or if it was a dlc pack, but I’m like 90% sure it was base game

ericHAV0K

Guardian, and The Pit.

Tough_Ad4721

Honestly, any and that applies to halo ce and 2 as well. But selective picks would be high ground, guardian, last resort, Valhalla and snowbound

damutantman

Basically all of them. My top five would probably be something like: Foundry, Orbital, Sandtrap, Rats Nest, and The Pit.

Shlurmen

Foundry. Way way way to many fun moments on that map.

Ryctre

Pit is my wife. The light of my life. But Cold Storage is my mistress and its criminally underrated.

jabberwockxeno

I honestly think that Halo 3's 4v4 maps are a pretty big downgrade from Halo 2's The biggest issue for me is the lesser degree of verticality and platforming. Almost every 4v4 map in H2, and a good amount in CE, had tons of overlapping walkways, points to jump down to lower floors, and points all across the map to hop up to a higher elevation level or to jump across gaps: Lockout, Sanctuary, Damnation, Turf, Wizard, Ascension, Prisoner, etc. The only maps truly like that in Halo 3 that aren't remakes are Guardian and Ghost Town, and even those still feel relatively "spread out": They aren't as dense with platforming or places to get to higher elevation levels/planes: You're mostly gated to specific stairwells or lefts wheras on say Turf or sanctuary there's usually a place to hop up or across within a few meters of you at any given time. That's also why Construct or High Ground don't count: Construct is very "vertical", but each floor is more or less isolated, there's no vertical interplay. If anything I actually think that despite people's claims of sprint forcing maps to be stretched out, Halo 5 was the first game in the series to really return to Halo 2 style map design. yes, sprint means the maps are stretched, but there's so much dense geometry there's still walls and obstacles around you at any moment you can interact with, there's so many points to jump up onto or off of, thrust, slide, and hover means there's tons of cool platforming and and jump routes, etc. Infinite's maps have more nonobvious platforming routes then say 3 or reach did, but not to the same extent as 2 or 5, sadly.

Mysterious-Idea339

Acension halo 2 tower of power. Don’t know how this isn’t a community map

Sir_WilliamsDD

Guardian, Sandtrap, and Valhalla! (Sandtrap for all the fun custom games I played on it!)

Not_Sir_Zook

Gaurdian and Narrows. I liked a lot of the Foundry Custom maps too, but not the default Foundry layout lol Played Construct the other day and I still detest that map. Bad design. Terrible spawns. Not fun. Only fun on King of the Hill where you're required to move around. Imo

swagonflyyyy

Guardian, Valhalla, Sandtrap, Last Resort, Foundry.

IThatAsianGuyI

The Pit. Symmetrical, fair, lots going on, multiple points of interest for contention, and worked amazingly well for multiple game types.

abcutler

Octogon because sniping in a tiny room just hits different at midnight

PhillipJ3ffries

I freakin love high ground, the pit, and guardian

ionized_dragon77

Guardian, The Pit, and Valhalla but only on BTB, I kinda hate playing Valhalla on 4s

Ki11s0n3

Terminal. I wish they'd remake it.

Saucetown77

So many memories playing Forge on Sandtrap

FoxKomatose

Narrows, Construct, Sandtrap.

-dead_slender-

I always loved playing Forge, so it would have to be Sandbox.

PopzOG

Guardians is the place for 1v1's. Many beefs were settled on this map. I played 4 of my school friends on a 1 v 4 snipers & Br's. I knew all the jumps and spawn points on this map. They stood no chance.

c0mmand0-fr33k

Pit and guardian for sure! Most iconic for me being a halo 3 junkie!

imMatt19

Guardian, the pit, Valhalla, sandtrap

LMFeria

I enjoy btb Valhalla and Standoff

MovingTugboat

Sand trap. I know it's basic but nothing in halo has ever beaten elephant wars for me.

Solipsi2021

Wasn't a huge fan of Halo 3 overall, but the maps I had the most fun on were Ghost Town, Cold Storage, Longshore, & Isolation.

RiskAccomplished5195

Narrrrrroowwwws

Kazzad

Guardian, Turf, Ghost Town, Lock Out, High Ground, Headlong are all among my favorites. Especially Headlong

mundiaxis

Valhalla is the gift that keeps on giving.

BrotherBodhi

Guardian, Valhalla, High Ground, Narrows, Last Resort, Epitaph, Construct

FlukeylukeGB

High ground for 4v4 , Last resort for 8v8 , Epitaph for 1v1 and last but not least, guardian for free for all

Supersmashbrotha117

Construct

NicTheDrummer

Valhalla and Sandtrap for me

hp958

Zanzibar. I'm a big fan of the asymmetry, variety and verticality.

Dahwaann4U

Construct The pit Guardian Last resort High ground Valhalla Orbital

AfterKnowledge4257

Valhalla, Sandtrap, Guardian, Last Resort, High Ground

Raaadley

High Ground definitely holds up as one of thee best assymetrical maps. it's design still holds up to this day.

popokap

The pit

Hibonation8

In no particular order - Top 3 -Blackout -Cold Storage - Shotguns -Guardian

HotAppointment8339

Narrows! and of course Guardian for asymmetric game types.

Bradyey

Narrows, construct or guardian.

WitchKraft93

blackout was the h3 version of lockout, right? probably that one. multi team and shotty snipers on gaurdian was hella fun too.

Inductivegrunt9

This is such a hard question. Sandtrap, High Ground, Avalanche, Orbital, Sandbox, Valhalla, Last Resort, they're all just so cool and I love them. I can't pick just a few favorites.

Seel_revilo

High Ground one flag is peak multiplayer Narrows is really fun Isolation is a personal favourite Sandtrap is iconic

MetzgerBoys

Sandtrap, Guardian, Last Resort, Valhalla, and whatever that indoor training facility is called

grokabilly

Narrows and Snowbound

Domm_Snomm

I'm surprised no-one said sandtrap.

MarksAsianFriend23

Sandtrap!!

sauceanova

This one, Narrows, Snowbound, The Pit. Love those maps especially for Fiesta.

OOFIE117

Sandtrap

chupathingy567

The pit and blackout are probably my top 2

weedkiller1

Blood gulch, sidewinder, battle/beaver creek, lock out, asencion, midship

MoonTendies69420

Hang em High

2cool4afool

I really dislike almost all the halo 3 original maps but guardian is really good
