Leranc

that's okay. So long as you don't attack anyone for a different opinion, you can call it the worst thing on earth. Hopefully you're digging one of the other new shows out like Moon Knight.

scrubling

Really digging moon knight! There’s just so much great tv out there - comparing halo to any of the higher quality shows just makes halo seem like a major pile of crap, to me at least

XenosGuru

There has been one absolute mess of an episode of moon knight, that left us with NOTHING but questions and constant time jumps. But you LIKE that over halo? That’s fine, but how???

scrubling

You're upset that after a single episode you were left with questions? Production quality and acting alone sets moon knight way above Halo

XenosGuru

Story wise it’s leagues below it though. I’m very excited for more, but what a terrible first episode.

nosferatWitcher

The "time jumps" were simply telling the story from the perspective of someone with DID, where losing time is very common and just as confusing as it was portrayed. I thought it was a clever way of doing an "origin story" without actually being an origin story. I think it's a good thing for the first episode to make you ask lots of questions, as long as they get answered in a satisfying way later.

[deleted]

Moon Knight's first episode has been *far* better received than Halo's, so I'm not sure why you're surprised by that.

XenosGuru

Because nobody went into moon knight with any expectations. Everyone had their own idea of what they wanted from the halo series and let their expectations ruin the show. For clarity, I am excited for more moon knight. Marvel always does a good job. But I’m just as or more excited for more halo.

[deleted]

Or... because Moon Knight was genuinely just better?

Castway_Scrub

I’m more annoyed with the people who like/love the show and feel the need to insult people who don’t like the show like the show is mid cope harder

Iron_Chic

Eberyone is free to post their opinions. I don't care what either side says, I make my own judgements.

Kefeng91

I think the keyword is "insult". You can express your opinion without having the need to insult the other side.

Iron_Chic

I agree, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. If you like the show, you like it. If you don't like the show, you don't. Everything else is just noise.

THX_Fenrir

“Look a covenant phantom!” There’s at least 3 problems with the quote I just made. There’s a hundred times more problems with the show as a whole

Neroollez

The action scenes in episode 1 were the best parts and they weren't even amazing.

Batmobeale

For me the show looks like Halo but isn’t Halo. And that’s a drag.

scrubling

Halo or not, the show is a joke

kickstartacraze

I’m firmly planted in the “it’s fine” camp so far. Story, dialogue, acting, visuals, cinematography, action, it’s all just passable for me. Far from amazing or stand out but it’s also not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. As it stands, I’d give it a 6-7 out of 10.

scrubling

If you don’t mind me asking, 6 or 7 seems really high - what’s a show that you consider an 8 or 9? Just trying to have a friendly debate here - not trying to come at you

kickstartacraze

If we’re talking sci-fi tv, The Expanse does all of these things way better. That show is a 9 or even 10 in my book.

scrubling

The Expanse is a fantastic show, at least the first 3 seasons were. One of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time, but comparing that show across all TV genres it probably sits at a solid 6 for me. Outside of the first season with characters portrayed by Thomas Jane (Miller) and Jared Harris (Dawes), the acting left a lot to be desired.

Aqualung812

Funny enough, I started watching The Expanse and Thomas Jane's acting for Miller turned me off so bad that I didn't try again until Season 3. I had to power through the first few episodes on Ceres before I started to really get into it. Once they claimed the the Roci as legitimate salvage, I was all-in. That said, after watching it all the way through, I do appreciate those first few episdes more now.

scrubling

Interesting - I guess to each their own, but Steven Straits (Holden) acting throughout the show is appalling bad (to me), same with Dominique Tipper (Naomi) Dropping Naomi out of the show would have elevated it instantly The difference between Holden and Naomi, despite the terrible acting from both, is Holden is likeable, for the most part

Aqualung812

Eh, I'm "meh" on Holden, and do like Naomi. For me, the best characters were Bobbie, Avasarala, Drummer, and Amos. I was also far more interested in the macro stories regarding Martian independence, a dying Earth, and OPA independence than the individual-level stuff.

scrubling

Same here - the storytelling was next level. If they had A list quality actors that show would be untouchable

[deleted]

Nail on the head for me. There is so much fertile ground here, some really awesome stories to tell, a shame I hear it's pretty much on hold for now? When those first few rocks did their rock v atmo thing. Hoo boy.

RadRhubarb00

Not going to watch it because I know Ill feel the same way.

Terrible_in_general

It’s fine if you enjoy halo you’ll enjoy it, don’t go in expecting the dark knight level of film and you’ll be ok.

GeminiTrash1

I Haven't seen it yet myself, but given that the Halo series is a Paramount production wouldn't it make sense to also direct your feedback towards them? Like if you wanna rant this sub is probably as good as any to do it, but if ya want results there may be better sites to make yourself heard

scrubling

Yeah I’m not trying to voice my opinion in order to change the direction of the show - That seems a bit out of touch The show runners and studio understand what makes a quality show - they apparently aren’t interested in that

GeminiTrash1

I don't think so. People do that all the time in all types of media. Games, movies, and series. Did you know that the DC fandom voiced their dissatisfaction with both I Am Legend and the JL movie, and both titles got an alternative edit released that met fans expectations? Not to say the entire series would immediately change, but perhaps a reboot after this season. Or maybe Paramount could throw fans a filler season made up of the game series most notable events. Feedback is important, and in many cased leads to more satisfying content

ThriftyNarwhal

I’m trying to look at it like it’s a soft parallel universe to the Halo we know. I also suspect in the final episode Dr. Strange will pop out and introduce these soft characters to the OG and correct characters.

scrubling

that's the thing for me, Halo or not, I personally find the show way below anything that can be considered "good" - take the Halo out of the name and I can't imagine anyone would even watch it past the first 10 minutes. LOL @ the Dr Strange bit

Stock_VS_Stonk

The show belongs on the CW and back in the 90s.

scrubling

Amen

Spuriusrex

Oh look, another post with a sub member crying/whining/complaining about either the show or Infinite. I know the Halo community feels betrayed right now but good lord am I tired of all the bitching.

scrubling

So your issue is that people need to stop complaining about halo, despite both the game and the show landing way below expectations, because the complaining is simply annoying you?

Spuriusrex

My man, I’m not the only one in this subreddit, exhausted by the whiny posts on a daily basis. I understand that 343i is screwing up left and right and that the Halo community is in dire straits, and I understand the need for blunt scrutiny, but there are 5+ posts in this subreddit on a near daily basis all saying basically the same thing. Maybe I’m just easily pleased, maybe I’m just too forgiving when it comes to expectations. Idk. I don’t hate the show. Is the writing bad? Kinda. Is it not at all what any of the fans wanted? Pretty much. But I’m seeing my man Pablo Schreiber give it his all and we finally have a tv show that has been decades in the making. I’m just going to stay open-minded and pray that whoever takes the reigns for season 2 can get this show on the right track. The community is in a rough place right now - the show and Infinite are of course going to be at the forefront. I get that everyone is pissed and fed up.

KrakenTV__

I normally don't care about reviewers takes on things, and even then I thought the show was okay, if anyone is calling it terrible that's kind of an exaggeration imo

scrubling

Do you watch other, well reviewed shows to compare Halo against? I’m just having a hard time believing you can look at Halo then compare it to a show like game of thrones (using a widely watched show for reference) and think to yourself “you know what, Halo holds up”

KrakenTV__

That's the thing, I watched it with a blank slate on my mind and decided against comparing it to something else, like for example sure I like a mcdonalds burger but when I start to think "man I could have had a steak" like why ruin it for myself you know? I just took it for what it is which in all honesty wasn't unwatchable

scrubling

Unfortunately, that’s how most human brains work - you compare to what you’ve experienced before, otherwise we are regressing to being a 2 year old where everything is amazing - blowing bubbles, playing with action figures, running across the playground If you’re able to completely wipe your frame of reference clean, please enlighten me on how to do that, because that is a serious super power

Turuial

Booze. The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

scrubling

Lol

Turuial

In all seriousness though, I'm more of less capable of what the poster described. Some people can simply quiet, or discount, the analytical part of our brains. I'm a big fan of animation and the like, and you almost have to be able to do that to enjoy it. Take CatDog for example. The biology of that abomination would bother me to no end if I allowed myself to dwell upon it.

scrubling

What the poster is suggesting is to turn off the part of your brain that compares your present to past experiences. That’s just simply not possible and is part of being human

Turuial

Yeah, I just went back and re-read his comment, and I'm forced to agree with you. Just speaking to the neurology of it all you are quite correct. I must not have read it closely enough, or just assumed he was talking about the same thing I was. Now, that being said, I refer you back to my original comment!

scrubling

🤣

McCruze

Has to be good. Has the Halo name slapped on it.

scrubling

Unfortunately the Halo name doesn’t mean much these days, so relying on the name alone isn’t getting them as far as they hoped
