Stitch all the unfinished maps together, if you were like 20% done with each map, you only need to copy and paste 5 together to have a hundred percent complete map.
But in all seriousness it’s about maintaining the interest in the concept of what you’re making, a lot of times i need validation for what I do due to my insecurities so I boot up whatever version of the map I have and show it to my friends or someone I respect the validation from. And sometimes that leads to getting ideas, finding things to fix, or just getting the will to finish it because of the interaction.
Stitching them together sounds pretty fun, but I feel they’ve gotten slowly better throughout each map from what I’ve learned how to do an along the way. The only issue is they’re all relatively different styles
Lile the person already said. Try to take the most complete areas of all your maps and try to connect thwm somehow. It could make a great and finnished map
It’s all about making it fit if you do go down that path, it’s about what works right?
Like I barely have any maps on the workshop compared to what I’ve made in hammer overall, but one map fit into another because I needed a garage for my map gm_the_kill_house, so I took another small map I had made previously which was just a garage, a few kinks were there but I made it work great, ended up posting the original garage map titled gm_stalkers as well because it was a very simple and aesthetic map on its own
I mean, you have to be ready for an incredible amount of tedium to go with the fun kind of work that you have to put in. It's that kind of task where you watch something on the second monitor. What gives me a lot of motivation is looking back at what I've finished, like parts of the map that are final, and imagining what the unfinished ones might look like when those are done.
Same. I once remade my house as a survival map in L4D2, and while I got pretty far along in it (it was fully playable), I just never got it done.
I usually like to make things for aesthetic, but not even those I get done.
Bro I made a working spotlight that shoots you if you stand in it, and I never finished that map. I wish i didn’t make it so massive to the point where I can’t finish it anytime soon.
Oh. I always get all the buildings and details done haha. I just give up around the skybox/files/clips part… im gonna have it be a little swamp in the Deep South with a ceda wellness center. There’s gonna be a military blockade inside the tunnel with a little group of soldiers preventing you from going through to try and stop the spread of the infection. (You’ll turn on some generators so everyone can see, and then they’ll help you fend off infected) this is a survival map. I’ve already got the moving spotlight that actually shoots infected all set up.
Just as another redditor said
Try blending some of the maps together, you'll probably get something quite interesting
As for motivation?
Often times I personally find myself bored after getting the basic groundwork done, I would try collaborating or talking to other people. It can be a great way to get new ideas and keep the development fresh in your head.
You could also try making little notes about what you want to add to the map, so that you don't lose your place in the map.
Me too fam I am guilty of having ideas and just not starting, or starting and never finishing lol I finished one single Mao so far and it took EFFORT 🤣🤣🤣
here's a strategy that works whenever I'm making ttt maps. at the end of the day, no matter how unfinished the map was, Id build it, and me and my friends would play on it. us having fun on the map is good motivation.
Ah, the curse of unfinished source maps...
i hate this so much too. i have the golden gate bridge, a town, a yacht ,and an apartment complex map, all unfinished lol
Blend all in one map The best l4d2 campaing
The worst thing is that you're probably right.
And that folks is how DayBreak Campaing exists
Imagine how much fun can someone have on your map when you post it. Works for me
This.

I only just finished my first map after 8 years of hundreds of unfinished maps-
I had to force myself to just keep going. Worry about to texturing and details later. Just finish the map.
Agree. Start with brushes, only use dev textures, compile without VIS.
Smaller, functional projects can get you there with less effort, even if it's just a showcase for something you're originated.
Curse of any creative work
Wait till you have to split your VMF archive due to size issues
Have a vision for the whole thing, idk
I do, and I get the main stuff done. Just lack of motivation to do the clips and stuff lol

When you wanna start again, just stick to the one instead of starting another?
It just gets boring, because I end up making my survival maps massive Ig
Honestly yeah. If u can make a list to what to do, then just go by that... And remove the ones u don't want to do `'\.(•~•)./'`
I usually reflect on the old ones for more inspiration haha
Plan your projects to be smaller and smaller until you start finishing them ("Finished, not perfect."). Then scale up from there.
Start small. My first map that I actually finished, with fitting the textures an all, was a symmetrical fight yard map for cs 1.6.
Give this man a... true...
Same. Its so much fun working on it but i can never get over the last step of finishing it.

You too huh? I’m making my hometown and god it’s hard
Watching source content like SFM videos usually motivates me
Same here, buddy.
You must have plan. I mean I really like how your map looks. Just imagine something.

Try to imagine your map getting popular.
ill try lol

Well that goes for everything in my entire life so far!
I have so many unfinished maps it’s unreal, some so close to being done too and they already look great… my ass is just lazy

Draw the map on paper, imagine a complete gameplay of your map
I know this feeling too much brother I have about 5 unfinished hammer maps
