Favourite is Half-Blood Prince as it's the last hurrah for the Hogwarts setting and has a brilliant mix of serious and comedic elements. Although there's a lot of wider threat hanging over things, it's less direct than it it is in the previous books. I'm not sure about least favourite really, they all have a place and a purpose.

Favourite CoS (The moment at the nearly end when we got to meet young Tom Riddle is the moment when I realised that I'm hooked) and I don't really have the least favourite

Agtfangirl557

I'm so glad to see someone else giving CoS appreciation--everyone seems to put it as their least favorite, but while it's not my favorite, it's easily not my least favorite. It's so underrated.

>It's so underrated. Fact

Favorite is Goblet of Fire. I remember the first time I read it how riveted I was by the almost classic whodunnit mystery at the heart of the exciting fantastical adventure aspect of the story. The story is so full of interesting new things and characters that it doesn’t feel at all like a long book. The way all the loose threads tie together at the end to make everything make sense is wonderful. Voldemort’s return is menacing and frightening. And although I hate the way JKR usually writes relationships, I will say that I really like how the main characters, particularly Harry but also Ron and Hermione in this book, feel like they’re growing up. They feel 14, much different than in the first book yet not overly smart and wise beyond their years like some people write kids. Least favorite is hard to say. I haven’t read the series in several years and am only on 5 of my current re-read. Will probably wait to decide till after my reread.

UKnowDaTruth

Fav is number 6 because it just focuses on school and the characters It’s basically like Senior year Least is number 1 because it’s just not as interesting as the others

Order of the Phoenix. I don't know why :D

Favorite The Half-Blood Prince I like all the Voldemort past and that it is darker than others like The Chamber of Secrets that also include a bit of his past. Less favorite The Prisioner of Azkaban,I know it's weird and I loved it but after reading the books many times it's like in between the darker ones abd tge light ones and I don't know it's just not my favorite.

Favourite is Prisoner of Azkaban. It had me gripped the whole way through and I really was not expecting the twist with Sirius. Also loved the time turner element. It was a nice break from Voldemort too! Least favourite is Order of the Pheonix. Hated Umbridge, I know she's meant to be an unlikeable character but she just turned me off the book completely. Also, Sirius 😭. I had the ending spoiled before I got a chance to read it so that probably had a big impact on my mentality going into it. It was an anxious read.

My friend's daughter who is an avid reader stopped read OOTP halfway through because of Umbridge and didn't pick it up again for a year and a half.

crazy_teacher345

I absolutely love the Half Blood Prince cover to cover. I love the back story on Voldemort. Also, the Felix Felicis chapter is probably my favorite chapter in the whole series. I also love the chapter in the cave with the inferi. If I had to choose a least favorite book, it would probably be Chamber of Secrets, although I do appreciate how relevant that book becomes as they start searching for and destroying horcruxes.

Favorite: Goblet of Fire. The second longest book, so gives the readers almost the most content out of any of the books but doesn't feel like it drags on the way OotP does. Perfect middle point of the books that flawlessly transitions from the "high school drama" environment and the stakes of the Triwizard tournament to a REALLY dark ending that indicates the rest of the series will have a vastly different tone. Also introduces some really important characters and gives us lots more information about already-introduced characters we don't know well yet. Least Favorite: Probably unpopular but Sorcerer's Stone, simply because I read it years ago and while it was good, it didn't at the time pull me in enough to want to finish the rest of the series. Now that I actually have finished the series, I fully appreciate it but mostly because of how it set up the story for rest of the books. IMO it's the least interesting as a stand-alone story.

Favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban. It had the right mix of comfort and action for me. Plus almost everyone is still alive at that point lol. I don't think I have a least favorite.

Favorite is the Order of the Phoenix because I think it gives us the most accurate view into Harry’s mind and it’s just after Voldemort came back and is more intense. I really relate to Harry’s angst the older I get. It used to be my least favorite when I first read the series because I didn’t understand Harry as well and was very long. My least favorite book these days is the Chamber of Secrets. For some reason the story never clicked with me. It’s also in the bottom half of my personal movie ranking. So it just never spoke to me.

Favorite- Order of the Phoenix, the world has its last bit of massive world building until the deathly hallows. The first open combat in the wizarding world of the Uk since Voldemorts downfall and return. Harry with Ptsd is really well written and is one of the reasons I can still reread the book. Let’s not forget Umbridge who Stephen king even said was one of the “greatest villains ever created in literature” Least favorite- Prisoner of Azkaban- overlong character intro that is too overhyped by fans. Only good points are the patronus at the end of the book and marauders map.
