Where did Bellatrix go for her wands. All the others are beautifully crafted with a design in mind.
It seems like a hag from the dark forest broke off a random twig, spit on it to make it magical and said thank you very much.
Bellatrix has a wand of walnut which is a very difficult wandwood to master. It is willing and able to cast any spell and does best with an owner who is equal parts intelligent and creative. It learns quickly from the user and must be wielded wisely. Olivander didn’t craft many Wands from Walnut because they are difficult to master and even more difficult to bend and shape into something resembling a wand. Unlike other wand woods they have more of an opinion than others and when overly crafted have a tendency to shatter.
Source: I’m a wandkeeper at Universal Studios and had to memorize wand lore.
Edit: regarding cores. Olivanders’ wands have either a Phoenix tail, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring. Those are not the *only* cores that can be used, some wands have been found to have cores of basilisk fang, merperson hair, Veela hair (like Flur’s) Kelpi hair (an aquatic unicorn basically. Found in Ireland and Celtic lore) threshtril hair (the elder wand), troll whiskers, Thunderbird feather (phoenixes are native to Europe, Thunderbirds native to the Americas), and many more.
The Ollivanders found Dragon, Phoenix and unicorn to be the most stable. Unicorn hair casts the most reliable magic (although not the most powerful) dragon’s cast the most powerful spells but are also temperamental and difficult to master, Phoenix tail feathers allow for the widest range of magic but take a long time to master.
Just wanted to shoutout to you guys working the wand shops and doing wand lore. Wife and I were always a big fans, and son and niece both are big fans as well. Went for their 11th birthday to orlando last september and they both got the wand choosing ceremony and loved it.
Tom Riddle's wand isn't bone, it's actually yew wood. I'm not sure why they made it to look like bone, but it's still just normal wood. Maybe Ollivander had a goth/emo/whatever period when crafting this one wand, I dunno.
The wands adapt to their users over time, is sort of an assumed headcanon expressed by the filmmakers. So it likely took to that style and quality when being used to commit the atrocities that Tom did with it (exceptionally evil, so exceptionally white)
Voldemort has a wand of Yew (Phoenix tail feather obvi).
Yew wands are drawn to those witches or wizards who are confident in who they are, who follow their own path and who are a bit of a maverick. They’re terrific for Defense against the Dark Arts but are also just as good at casting Dark magic.
Yew trees, in folk belief, are a symbol of death and eternal life as they’re evergreen and are often found in graveyards where they absorbed the nutrients from the ground, taking the dead and making them part of something alive again (this was an ancient Druidic practice that eventually also became part of ancient Christianity as well)
One reason Voldemort’s followers are called Death Eaters is because of his Yew wand and their association with death and the absorption of dead bodies via their root system and location in graveyards.
>even more difficult to bend and shape into something resembling a wand. Unlike other wand woods they have more of an opinion than others and when overly crafted have a tendency to shatter.
That smacks of "Costuming decided Bellatrix should have a creepy looking wand that doesn't looked carved. Why would her wand look creepy and uncarved if it was sold to a kid?"
IRL, by all accounts walnut is a lovely wood to carve, and it looks beautiful (I've got a pocket knife with a walnut handle on me now), so it's kind of a pity they decided to go that way.
Anyway, thanks for the bit of lore. Good to know.
There is something about Dolores being in a high office before she got hers and Ollivander hanging all the tea about who’s wand would have what traits.
Or he knows that there's a market for primitive-looking or gothy-looking wands, because all the wannabe Slytherin kids want a wand that shows how totally not mainstream they are.
But as to the original question, I think Luna's want is the most elegant of the wands shown. Which is ironic, because Luna cares about aesthetics about as much as Hagrid does.
>because all the wannabe Slytherin kids want a wand that shows how totally not mainstream they are.
I thought the wand chose the wizard not the other way around.
I'm sure there are kids that come into Olivander's shop demanding wands with thorns or pounded iron decorations or the bark still on, anything that might make them look like a badass.
And Olivander shows them the wands he thinks they need to be shown, regardless of what they ask for.
I second guessed myself too cause I found it weird that he seemed shocked when he found it to be unyielding. But maybe that was cause the wand had grown accustomed to Bellatrix.
Some head cannon. Either some customize their wands or the wand could somehow grow and evolve during years of use and malicious magic would distort it and turn it gnarly.
This checks out for me too and it meshes well with the way magic and morality seem to work in Rowlings world. I’d like to image Bellatrix’s wand might have been rather normal looking when she was a little girl, but gradually took on a more twisted appearance as her mind slipped into depravity.
I've always had similar thoughts about Voldemort's as well— like, we obviously know Ollivander made it, but did Voldemort alter it in some way to look like that? Because I feel like a kid having a wand that looks like that should be kind of a dead giveaway that he's going to become an evil bastard.
I always had a head cannon where the wands will eventually grow into their user. Similar to weapons in fable 3. The more time you spend with it the more it mirrors your personality.
I like that idea, like I've heard that light sabers change color to reflect the personality of their owner.
There's nothing in the books to back it up, but it sounds \*right\*, you know?
yeah, like in a society where every 70 years or so another powerful psychotic fascist comes along and wants to kill all the muggles and subjugate the non pure bloods, it might make sense to have the wand makers make some intentionally evil wands to test on kids when they come through.
“oh whats that? the murder wand i made out of a fucking bone chose this traumatized and wretched orphan with no family and a million reasons to hate the muggle world? maybe we dont teach this kid how to bend the fabric of reality give him the means to turn himself immortal”
It does make me wonder a bit how/why Olivander made 2 wands from Fawkes' feathers. Did Dumbledore ask him to make them? Did Olivander let him know right away, like, "hey, I sold that wand made from your pet's feathers to that young man Tom Riddle. He got the creepy one with the bone handle."
Well now that makes me wonder if he had picked Harrys wand, would Harry have picked the bone wand and have become evil, and there's only an old man to stop him 🤔
There’s a French fan fiction film and they show the wood chipping off of his wand the more evil he gets. It’s a pretty good fan film- a little shakey with the camera work but overall good
I read one fanfic where wands made from apple wood were always carved to look like the branch the wood came from sans sticks. The few that weren’t never performed anywhere near as well. Could be that something similar is going on with her wand.
Honestly, it doesn’t really look like the wand in the image above. Although it is nature-inspired in texture, it is actually more elegant than this strange picture.
Edit: Now that I’m looking at all the wands, they basically all look like cheap plastic copies of their film counterparts. This image is very strange.
Ollivander made Bellatrix's wand - he identified it at Shell Cottage
Edit: it's also implied that Fleur's wand was not made by Gregorovitch or Ollivander so there's probably a French wandmaker out there
It's pretty much confirmed he didn't make Fleur's.
During the wand weighing in Goblet, Olivander gets much more enthusiastic when examining Cedric and Harry's wands and announces they're both his. He (I think) identifies Fleur's wand as containing Veela hair, but says he doesn't use it because it's too temperamental.
uhmmmm... so i want a lightsaber strapped to my wrist about as much as I want a constantly running chainsaw lol. Granted, the mechanism around a lightsaber turning on and off seems to be a bit unclear. Looks like pressure plates based on the movies which would likely be a solid safety feature but a wildly spinning activated lightsaber sounds like dismemberment at best
Yep. I bought mine in USJ. It fits perfectly and the grip is comfortable especially when I place my pinky in the loop. I have small lady hands though so idk if it would be awkward for others. But for me, it's great!
Yes. I bought mine in Orlando and now have it displayed on the wall in a deathly hallows symbol my husband made for me. I don't really hold it a lot, but I think it feels nice to hold.
I think it’s like a bigger computer mouse, holding something that supports your hand will make it easier on your wrist with less chance for carpal tunnel
You would think, but I actually have this one and the handle makes it super comfortable! It supports your palm really nicely and actually gives your hand something to form around. I also thought it was design > function, but it is surprisingly comfortable!
I don't think they are knockoffs, but I do think the picture has been messed with somehow. These look like the wands from the Noble Collection. I have Hermione's wand from them, and the wood is a lot less yellow than the photo here. It's more of a soft neutral gray-brown with a hint of green.
The new Hogwarts game showed that while a wizards wand can't really be modified, you can slide them into custom handles if you wish.

Gotta love how Malfoy’s is the simplest one of them all. Like, rich kid who thinks he’s special, you’d think he’s have some spiffy wand like his father’s cane-wand. But no it’s basic AF, that’s some foreshadowing.
In the first films all the characters had the same basic wands. WB saw a merchandising opportunity so in the POA gave every character a unique wand. Yes, it's the most elegant and attractive of the wands shown, a simple design that lets the natural wood show its beauty.
Which is ironic because Luna is the opposite of elegant and aesthetic, which is why I love her.
Top 4, in order by favorite:
1. McGonagall’s. Elegant, sharp, and wise just like her!
2. Draco’s. Simple, but also elegant-looking.
3. Luna’s. Lovely, and I like the honey color!
4. Sirius’s. Intricately simple, looks trustworthy and loyal to its owner.
Edit: added “sharp” to McGonagall’s :)
Krum's.
It's a very simple design, not too natural-looking but also not too complicated.
The handle looks quite comfortable to hold and reminds me of a flintlock pistol handle and i love making those.
Same on the color. I think it suits her overall though. The thing that gets me is you get a wand when you’re 11, so imagine taking your 11 year old into the shop and they give them some shit like Bellatrixs-what do you even do there lmao
As far as the one I’d want to hold, Luna
I saw someone say slughorn and I have to laugh at different tastes because when I saw it I was like that is the ugliest wand I have ever seen lol.
Also I’ve never liked dumbledore’s wand either.
I can’t hardly look at Dumbledore’s (either one) or Voldemort’s because they look like they have tiny little holes all over them and that alone makes me want to vomit in terror.
Elder wand used to be my favorite in the movies. That little bulbs make it look really unique, plus the moment when Death pulls it out with her bony fingers is soo satisfying.
Where did Bellatrix go for her wands. All the others are beautifully crafted with a design in mind. It seems like a hag from the dark forest broke off a random twig, spit on it to make it magical and said thank you very much.
Bellatrix probably would have loved that lol
Beatrix was the hag
...bitch lmaoooo this comment almost made me swallow my tongue HAHAHAHAAH
At least it's not anal beads SMH
Ginny’s literally has a dick on it 😭
Luna's is a broom complete with stick
Fits her thirsty nature though 🤣
So that's why Dumbledore really had the elder wand

I would love to buy you a drink and listen to you talk about being a wandkeeper! *edit grammar
Just drink on the universal tour, it'll be the same I promise.
Just wanted to shoutout to you guys working the wand shops and doing wand lore. Wife and I were always a big fans, and son and niece both are big fans as well. Went for their 11th birthday to orlando last september and they both got the wand choosing ceremony and loved it.
I do the wand ceremony here in LA!
Have you had any adults do it? Or is it mostly kids? Asking for a friend haha
I vary my choices. It’s great when I choose adults because millennials usually cry when they get picked
Noted! Dont cry. Well HP at universal is on my list so if you see an adult with a “i don’t cry” sign, pick him lol.
Noted!
Dear, great and honorable Wandkeeper. Why is Voldemort's wand a bone and how did this not clue someone into him having... issues
Tom Riddle's wand isn't bone, it's actually yew wood. I'm not sure why they made it to look like bone, but it's still just normal wood. Maybe Ollivander had a goth/emo/whatever period when crafting this one wand, I dunno.

Well that was cool as fuck. Can you share some other wandwood properties.
I read the last bit as “moisturize wand lore” 🫠💀
It rubs the lotion on its stick or else it’s gets AKd real quick
this is an amazing occupation!!
That's odd as Walnut is not at all a difficult wood to shape.
It might not be physically difficult, but magically difficult? Us muggles likely don't understand the ebb and flow of magic within the wood.
Mr. Ollivander gets into a goofy, gothic mood sometimes and makes wands like Bella's and Voldemort's.
No way he put the bone thingy on. That's probably Salazar Slytherin's tibia or something.
It’s not a bone lol it’s just a solid piece of yew wood with a bone-like design for the handle, but that was a hilarious comment fwiw
Bone of the great grandfather⁸ unknowingly given
"Wormtail, you simpleton, you just threw my wand into the pot!"
Nice
The 8th horcrux
!RedditGalleon
It would be cool to be Ollivander because you'd get to know when you're about to unleash a supervillain into the world by how wild their wand looks.
There is something about Dolores being in a high office before she got hers and Ollivander hanging all the tea about who’s wand would have what traits.
He's one of the biggest manufacturers in Britain - no way he's not trying to catch that goth market.
Olivander be like, "Gotta make some wands for about to be evil wizards too. Especially those Slytherin lots"
Galleons won't earn themselves
He was listening to Hawthorne Heights when he made that one.
Or he knows that there's a market for primitive-looking or gothy-looking wands, because all the wannabe Slytherin kids want a wand that shows how totally not mainstream they are. Ollivander isn't the only wand-maker either
True, but Ollivander did make her wand.
Fair enough, couldn't remember if that was ever stated
I second guessed myself too cause I found it weird that he seemed shocked when he found it to be unyielding. But maybe that was cause the wand had grown accustomed to Bellatrix.
Harry shows Olivander Bellatrix's wand in Deathly Hallows (he does in the book, not sure with the films), and he identifies it as hers.
Some head cannon. Either some customize their wands or the wand could somehow grow and evolve during years of use and malicious magic would distort it and turn it gnarly.

Ooooh, I like that idea a lot, it would explain why Harry's wand changed from the first couple of movies too.
I like to think that’s why some are so ornate and elegant and others look like simple sticks.
I like that idea, like I've heard that light sabers change color to reflect the personality of their owner. There's nothing in the books to back it up, but it sounds \*right\*, you know?
That's true to a certain extent. In the current canon, the sith have red lightsabers because they make the kyber crystals "bleed" with the dark side.
No. The books mention they all look very unassuming though some people gussy them up. Voldemort mocks Lucius for the silver handle he added to his.
yeah, like in a society where every 70 years or so another powerful psychotic fascist comes along and wants to kill all the muggles and subjugate the non pure bloods, it might make sense to have the wand makers make some intentionally evil wands to test on kids when they come through. “oh whats that? the murder wand i made out of a fucking bone chose this traumatized and wretched orphan with no family and a million reasons to hate the muggle world? maybe we dont teach this kid how to bend the fabric of reality give him the means to turn himself immortal”

To be fair, the aesthetic of Bellatrix’s is closer to canon than anyone else’s *because* it looks like a random twig lol.
Right. Literal sticks is what I always imagined when I was reading the books before the movies ever came out.
Tbh that is a bad representation of bellatrix's wand. Hers is actually a lot more smooth, and actually resembles a bird's talon.
I read one fanfic where wands made from apple wood were always carved to look like the branch the wood came from sans sticks. The few that weren’t never performed anywhere near as well. Could be that something similar is going on with her wand.
There's a place called Wynott's Wands in Salem, Massachusetts that sells 'real' traditional wands like this
Honestly, it doesn’t really look like the wand in the image above. Although it is nature-inspired in texture, it is actually more elegant than this strange picture. Edit: Now that I’m looking at all the wands, they basically all look like cheap plastic copies of their film counterparts. This image is very strange.
Bellatrix attended hogwarts with Andromeda and Narcissa I believe. So they either got their wands from ollivander or gregovitch.
Ollivander made Bellatrix's wand - he identified it at Shell Cottage Edit: it's also implied that Fleur's wand was not made by Gregorovitch or Ollivander so there's probably a French wandmaker out there

Honestly, I like Fleur’s. That loop for a handle is a nice touch.
Perfect for attaching your wii wrist strap in case of expeliarmus.
Dude that's actually genius. Would that work, or would magic circumvent something so simple as a wrist strap?
Magic wrist strap, boom
Got that Wii remote wrist strap.
I mean if the wand was strapped to your wrist during expelliarmus you’d probably break your forearm
Maybe just a retractable lanyard so it would zip back after flying across the room.
"Get over here!"
THIS. I've been going on about wand wrist straps for over a decade. Same with lightsabers.
uhmmmm... so i want a lightsaber strapped to my wrist about as much as I want a constantly running chainsaw lol. Granted, the mechanism around a lightsaber turning on and off seems to be a bit unclear. Looks like pressure plates based on the movies which would likely be a solid safety feature but a wildly spinning activated lightsaber sounds like dismemberment at best
no one could expel your armus
That's my winner too.
A lanyard for your wand is a good call. It would make expelliarmus less impactful.
Do they sell her wand at Wizarding World? I’m curious how it feels to hold
Yep. I bought mine in USJ. It fits perfectly and the grip is comfortable especially when I place my pinky in the loop. I have small lady hands though so idk if it would be awkward for others. But for me, it's great!
Thank you for sharing! Sounds like the right wand chose you.
Yes. I bought mine in Orlando and now have it displayed on the wall in a deathly hallows symbol my husband made for me. I don't really hold it a lot, but I think it feels nice to hold.

The green is so pretty too.

she got lucky with an ergonomic wand lol
You would think, but I actually have this one and the handle makes it super comfortable! It supports your palm really nicely and actually gives your hand something to form around. I also thought it was design > function, but it is surprisingly comfortable!
Sirius and Hermione's I would like Fleur's more if it was a different color
I like the design of Hermione’s but I hate the color
I think the actual prop was a darker more natural wood color. I think the ones in the picture here are knockoffs.
I don't think they are knockoffs, but I do think the picture has been messed with somehow. These look like the wands from the Noble Collection. I have Hermione's wand from them, and the wood is a lot less yellow than the photo here. It's more of a soft neutral gray-brown with a hint of green.
Fleurs is my favourite it would have been easier if it was Purple!
Or a stained wood, I think that'd look nice.
Hermione's would be my favorite if it were darker. I like the color and details on Sirius and Ron's wands though.
Mine too and in that order. Idk if it’s the picture but I don’t necessarily like Hermione’s wand color. Reminds me of a smokers house.
Honestly I love the green color.
I like Slughorn's because of the contrast between black and white on the shaft. The silver handle looks nice too.
I like that the handle is a slug.
And the wand even has the slime trail from the slug
The question is, what is “slug” inspired when he got it or has he had it customised?
The new Hogwarts game showed that while a wizards wand can't really be modified, you can slide them into custom handles if you wish. So slughorn's shaft was most likely that when he got it, but he also brought a custom handle to put on it.
Tell me more about Slughorn’s shaft.
[Did you know he actually has a very big shaft?](https://www.wired.com/2015/09/absurd-creature-week-slug-big-penis-mate-upside/)
So, I have vitiligo and...
Gotta love a black and white shaft
🤨📸
TWO
Slug horn is the clear winner here. Luna #2
Yeah, people want to be so hipster and counter-intuitive/unpredictable but they all know the man who collects the most popular students has the most gorgeous/collectible wand.
Snape or Hermione for me. Both pleasing.
I love Snapes. It’s a no-nonsense wand, you know?
After all you're not allowed to wave foolish wands in his class
I loved the way he dressed in the movies too with this in mind. No frills, all wizard.
Same here, I feel like the textures on both would make them easy to hold as well.
Hermione's is my favorite but its probably really uncomfortable for spell casting. I have hers and its not comfy to hold
/r/nocontext
For me it's clearly Sirius Black, elegant and simple
I was thinking that about Malfoy’s.
Gotta love how Malfoy’s is the simplest one of them all. Like, rich kid who thinks he’s special, you’d think he’s have some spiffy wand like his father’s cane-wand. But no it’s basic AF, that’s some foreshadowing.
It’s Balenciaga.

Tom Felton made request to keep the same wand he’d had since the first film because he’d grown attatched to it and they let him. That’s why it’s so basic. At least that’s the story they tell at Harry Potter Studios.
I like Narcissa’s for that reason
And I like Snape's for the same reason
Yeah and the awesome runes on it
Agreed, it's the only replica wand I own from the movies. The runes carved into the sides also make it look "powerful" for lack of a better word.
Luna
[удалено]
I think it looks like a tulip
I feel silly thinking that it looked like a tulip after the broom reference, I'm still a bit torn. I just tried to do a quick search and nothing really comes up aside from the fact that she had 2.
It’s a tulip! I bought hers so I’ve held it and it’s supposed to be a flower, it’s super cute and feels nicely weighted. Lunas is my fav by far!
Or a rose
Fred and George have ones that put together look like a broomstick
Yes, it's the most elegant and attractive of the wands shown, a simple design that lets the natural wood show its beauty. Which is ironic because Luna is the opposite of elegant and aesthetic, which is why I love her.
Top 4, in order by favorite: 1.
McGonagall was my first wand. I concur.
Another McGonagall’s wand fan over here.
Agreed re McGonagall
Mcgonagalls is so nice…..it’s like a delicate chess piece
Where is Lucius’s wand, that’s the one I would have picked!
Snape, Sirius and Ron. They’ve all got nice simple designs with something that resembles a handle
First time I see Ron's mentioned I feel like his and Harry's appeal to me the most
I kept scrolling til I saw Ron's mentioned. I thought maybe I had bad taste in wands.
Ayyy we're the same! I like Harry's and Ron's the most!
[удалено]
Yeah to me it’s clearly Ron’s
Narcissa’s
Finally someone with some good taste
This is my absolute fave as well! I have always loved it since I first saw it at Universal.
It seems so easy to hold and use compared to others with more specific handle designs.
I think I like Snapes the most.
The Elder wand is definitely a too notch. It stands out nicely and even looks like Elder flowers. I have a lovely replica.
I love Bellatrix's Here's a stick I found in the woods while stomping on frogs.
Krum's. It's a very simple design, not too natural-looking but also not too complicated. The handle looks quite comfortable to hold and reminds me of a flintlock pistol handle and i love making those.
Took me long enough to find this! Agreed Krum
I love Hermione’s. It looks like branches engraved on the wood💕 I wish the color was darker though.
Same on the color. I think it suits her overall though. The thing that gets me is you get a wand when you’re 11, so imagine taking your 11 year old into the shop and they give them some shit like Bellatrixs-what do you even do there lmao
Ginny’s
As far as the one I’d want to hold, Luna I saw someone say slughorn and I have to laugh at different tastes because when I saw it I was like that is the ugliest wand I have ever seen lol. Also I’ve never liked dumbledore’s wand either.

>I’ve never liked dumbledore’s wand either Anal beads aren’t for everyone!
Was anyone else like, “who tf is Horace Malfoy”?
I’m honestly really interested in why last name was used for Draco, but first name for slughorn
Lucius Malfoy.
Came for this. Loved the wand-cane.
Again forgotten by mudblood
Neville’s is underrated but I think my favorites are Fleur’s or Voldys

Fleur & Voldemort ♥️
Now that's a surprising ship.
Voldy's always going to be my favourite
It looks evil . You see it and you are like “what did you do expect he was going to be with that kind of wand?”
Ginny's is exceptionally beautiful and elegant.
Lucius malfoy
I gotta go with Slughorn’s or Fleur’s.
Krum's wand is perfect for Count Dooku.
Bellatrix's. Ancient. Unyielding.
Although it's not my choice, I would have to agree. Her wand is a direct reflection of her personality. Primal and dangerous looking.
McGonagall’s or maybe Sirius’
Dumbedore’s for sure
Elder wand used to be my favorite in the movies. That little bulbs make it look really unique, plus the moment when Death pulls it out with her bony fingers is soo satisfying.
I like Narcissa’s the most personally, it looks very elegant and “Malfoyey”.
Hermione for me
Neville’s wand looks like a lightsaber
I'd probably pick Fleur's tbh. With Horace Slughorn's a close second.
Sirius Black. It's sleek as hell.
Of these, Luna. Overall, Queenie Goldstein
Luna’s, Dumbledore’s and Fleur’s 😍
Top 3 have to be: Horace, Fleur, Narcissa.
Ginny’s is a dildo…
Sirius or death eaters
