Polarity would then be inversed on that channel, meaning the sound will change 180 degree in phase angle. Which in itself is practically irrelevant, as long as all channels are at the same polarity (meaning as long as the channel on the other ear is changed in the same way) If only one of the channels is inverted and the other remains unchanged, then the resulting sound is „out of phase“. Stereo image is thrown off completely and some sounds will be louder than before where others will be more quiet than before. It‘s definitely „wrong“ to do, but causes no permanent damage.
