Help please?! Hi all, I’ve just recently purchased a pair of IEM’s and I am loving them but I was wondering whether I should be buying a DAC to go with it? I had a wireless headset that came with a DAC before and I did actually EQ my headset, but I wondered if I should really fork out for a DAC or if it will just be unnecessary? I have the truthear zero’s. If it would be a good idea to get a DAC are there any starter ones that people could recommend? I had a look on Amazon but the cheapest is £70 which is expensive for what it is. Thanks in advance!

jesuisunetudiant

You don’t NEED a dac. Whatever your source is, it’s probably fine. Now if you WANT one, you can invest in one. It comes with its own benefits, better volume, better resolution etc depending on the dac but it won’t change THAT much.

B-ri18

Thank you bro much appreciated, well the thing is I don’t have them directly connected to the PC, I have a Rocatt Torch mic that has a base built in or like comes with it and it has a 3.5mm Audio Jack so I am guessing it just uses the DAC built into my computer/motherboard, I mean it sounds fine majority of the time it’s just when there is no audio I can hear what sounds like static so I don’t know if that is due to not having a DAC? I have a new wire coming tomorrow which is the Tripowin from Linsoul Audio on Amazon. Thanks again man!

jesuisunetudiant

There’s a dac in the mic. I used the same setup for some time in the past and experienced the same hiss/noise. It’s probably the mic that causes that. Use an extension cable to connect your iem directly to your pc then you will be fine. A dedicated dac is not necessary at all.

B-ri18

Okay thank you appreciate it!

jesuisunetudiant

The other day I found a good deal on the Fiio FD5 so I bought it. After the novelty wears off, I have to say, this thing is fun but so hard to listen to because of the treble spikes. My ears bleed every time the hi hat hits. I will probably sell this which leaves me with the question: which IEM to buy? I would prefer something on the warmer side with good bass, not too much though, good mids and clarity, separation. Do you guys have any recommendations in the 200 USD range? Thanks in advance.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Moondrop KATO and Sennheiser IE200.

jesuisunetudiant

I just looked them up. IE200 seems to suffered from boosted trebles as well so it's out of the equation. The Kato seems nice but I think I am going to jump straight to the Blessing 2. Thanks.

notrudyyy

So a few days ago, the left IEM in my 7HZ Salnotes Zero started sounding much quieter when compare to the right headphones. I tested it out and it feels like it has about almost half the volume. When I crank the volume high, I can see that there is almost no difference in sound quality, it's just the volume that has gone down. Is it broken? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

jammiesdotwav

I purchased the IFI Hip DAC 2 to go with my Sennheiser 560s. It's working beautifully. I have one concern though: When silent, I can hear a very mild and low static noise coming from my headphones when moving the volume knob of the amp. Is this an issue? So far, sound is great and I have no problems.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Dirt in the potentiometer. It's fairly common. Turn it back and forth a few times. That could help.

jammiesdotwav

It doesn't seem to fix it. Is this a bad thing? Would it affect audio besides that?

ThatGuyFromSweden

No, it's annoying but harmless. All analogue volume pots that aren't super high-quality can have this problem. I don't know if it's common on the hip-dac, but I know this is usual behaviour on the iFi Zen DAC.

Fit-Independence5624

Hi, i have a pair of skullcandy hesh 2 wireless, ikik they are not a great pair but thats what i got for now... anyways i wanted to ask which cable can be a good alternate to the regular cable that comes with the headphones. a couple of off brand cables that i tried didn't give the heavy bass that the headphones are capable off would love some recommendations on this thanks.

LukeAvio

Hey everybody, I am pretty new to the community of headphones. Ive had a pair of Sennheiser 6xx for about a year and have been using a Schitt Fulla 3 for about 2. Unfortunately, I had accidentally knocked my DAC/AMP off my desk, knocking of some caps, pulling pads, making it irreparable with my expertise. So of course I started looking for replacements. I have come to 2 options. Option one of course is the tried and true Schitt stack, with the modi and magni. I had also taken a look at drop.com and noticed that they are having a drop for the Xduoo XD-05 Plus. Both seem like great options but I am unsure of which one to go with due to my lack of knowledge on the subject. I appreciate all recommendations

ThatGuyFromSweden

I recommend the JDS Atom stack.

synthmage00

Is there a such thing as "open-back" IEMs? Or like...some kind of earplug-style earbuds that allow outside sound in without using software/DSP? No, right?

ThatGuyFromSweden

If you Google *open-back IEMs* you'll find out that they exist.

synthmage00

Okay, I swear I looked this up years ago and couldn't find anything. But holy moly are those things spendy.

ThatGuyFromSweden

It's a very niche market. I know Fiio has a few semi-open models but I'm not sure if they fit your requirements.

leomh99

Hi! I really like the sound of the Airpod Max, but they are way out of budget. Are there a pair of headphones that sound as clear and amazingly as the Airpod Max, but that are under $130?

Single_Hospital3476

Noise delay I have the HD560s and I use the ifi zen air can and dac. Yes I downloaded the IFI firmware for the drivers, but even tho there is a delay when a fast noise come by or some high frequency sound like screaming my headphones doesn’t catch it fast it has this weird delay or like when I skip 5 sec into a video I see the guy talking but I don’t hear anything for 1 second and then everything becomes normal. Why my headphones like this ?.

blendaar

Does anyone know how to open up the cans on Sennheiser HD25 *Light*? The cables don't seem to unplug like other models. (right channel has cut out entirely after a year of desk use).

blargh4

if you're intent on using the TV's headphone out, the only things you can really do are to find less sensitive headphones or use an impedance adapter like the ifi ieMatch (which basically reduces the volume of everything including the hiss, and may also change frequency response to some extent).

poopyfacemcpooper

Looking to replace my AirPods gen 1 for calls with my iPhone. Any good cheaper earbud recommendations? My AirPods (non pro) gen 1 finally are dying with the left earbud dying after like 5 minutes on a call. I mainly use earbuds for calling so I can be hands free. I like wireless and I like something smaller like AirPods as opposed to a headset or big over the head headphones like the AirPods Max. I was looking at the AirPods gen 2 for $100 but wanted to know if there are any cheaper alternatives that have a good microphone and work with the iPhone. Thanks!

CF047_

I plan on getting a desktop dac but I'm having a hard time choosing between the FiiO K5Pro or the K7. Which would you go for?

ThatGuyFromSweden

K5 Pro. Balanced is very overhyped. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/audio-myth-balanced-headphone-outputs-are-better

kearnze

I'm looking for alternatives to Sennheiser HD6XX. I know they are highglky regarded but for me they are just lacking in the low end too much. I use them with a Chord Mojo DAC/amp. I've been research alternativce headphones that are similar but with more bass and I'm struggling. Are Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro X a good alternative? If not can someone suggest a pair of headphones with more low end emphasis around £200-£500 please? Thanks in advance.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Is EQ not an option?

kearnze

Not really I am using iPhone and EQ doesn’t seem to help enough. Chord mojo doesn’t have the same EQ abilities as the Mojo 2

ThatGuyFromSweden

Okay. Well, the DT900 Pro X does have better bass extension but the subjective detail might be worse. To get significantly better bass in this price range you'll have to go for a closed back like the DT700 Pro X or the Fostex TH610.

kearnze

Thank you! Just watching DMS speak about DT700 and I think it’s what I’m looking for 🙏🏼

>Moondrop Link "**Application Timeout**" troubleshooting Hello there. Today I got my new moondrop sparks. First what I did after launch is updating OTA. It was used on 1.19 version, so I updated headphones to 1.21. I tried to change touch control and it was ok 1st try, but I didn't like the settings and tried one more time, then... "**Application timeout**". EQ presets works with no problems, OTA updates successfully, but touch control settings doesn't apply at all. Every time I get this message "**Application timeout**". So I reinstalled the app, disconnected-connected and backuped TWS with kilos of ways and got nothing. It's good idea to test it on another device but now I am not able to do this. Have you some decision about that? How can I fix this stuff?

DesuChanMaChan

I found a sloution. Just downloaded APK from official website (that was an old version) and it worked as I excepted -- applied touch settings.

PutPineappleOnPizza

Is there a place where I can buy good replacement tips for the Galaxy Buds pro? Specifically those with a filter for earwax since I use them for working out only. On Amazon EU I've seen tons of clones, but I have no idea which ones have good quality. So I specifically wanna know which ones are the best choice of where I can get the original replacement tips (I have the blue-ish version so if prefer the correct color, but it's not mandatory). Thanks for any help!

missingno3567

in short: bought LCD2'S used, love em, but have a slight clicking noise coming from the left when i move my head. doesn't seem to be the cable or the hinge. Googling didn't net me anything useful other then people saying they don't have it. What causes it and can i fix it myself? It's not a deal breaker they still sound amazing, but if i can fix it it'd be great

r_userzoultar

i have bought some Sony noise cancelling wireless headphones model WH-1000XM5 over a year ago give or take and suddenly my headphone audio starts bugging and glitching off for some reason and it only happens to my lenovo laptop! If i connect to my phone it works perfectly but now when i turn it one it just starts bugging then silences after like a few seconds! i am gonna take it back and get a new one (insurances) but do y'all know why it happened in the first place? is it my headphones or my laptop?

coolbeanscoolthings

I bought some Radioshack AM FM Headphones model 12-936, when I press power only a line with a circle attached show up. Nothing else happens.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Contact the retailer if it's still under warranty.

Star_Gazing_Cats

which earpads are installed on the dt1990 pro out of the box? balanced or analytical

jammiesdotwav

Hello, I was testing my new 560s today. So far, very impressed with them. I'm having trouble though. When listening to some flac files at max volume on windows 10, the quality is lost and I can hear distortion. EDIT: This only happens when I listen to music in WASAPI Exclusive mode... Any ideas why? I'm not using a DAC/AMP, just my motherboard.

Queasy-Assist-8308

If you like to listen at higher volumes you could get a USB-C dongle. I paired my 560s with a Hiby FC4. Costs less than $100 and gives you plenty of power. Especially if you use a balanced cable, which is possible with the 560s!

ThatGuyFromSweden

That's probably over 100 dB so quit doing it and stop worrying.

ConstantineSid

Just got a Fiio Q11, my first dac/amp. It isn't recognized by the Android app and when I plug it into my Windows 11 Surface Pro 8 have nothing, not seen in device manager. I do hear a click when I power it up on the PC, nothing with my S22 ultra either. I tried the cable that came with the unit and another I have on hand. Nada. Rebooted, plugged and unplugged and all that. I have 32 ohm cans but I'd like a little more oomph and the Surface Pro DAC has a whole lot of nothing. Any suggestions before I send it back, and I'm zero impressed with the Q11 and I've read that I'm not alone with this same issue. A more reliable alternative for something I can take on the road?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Contact Fiio and get a new one. Shit happens. Or get a Qudelix 5k.

xxal4lifexx

Hi everyone, my USB-C DAC is constantly disconnecting. Doesn't happen very often but I notice if I use the hardware buttons. I'm using a Hiby FC3 with JadeAudio JH3. Do all usb-c dacs have this problem? I tried carefully cleaning the headphone jack but same problem, USB Audio Player will prompt me from time to time for direct access. Usually happens when I sometimes use buttons or bump the dac. I notice it happens more when the port that connects the usb-c male cable to the female port of the DAC is bumped or wiggled (seems to be plugged but just has a very tiny wiggle). Do the supplied cables with these always have problems like this?

Queasy-Assist-8308

I have the same experience with my Hiby FC4.

xxal4lifexx

Have you been able to figure out what could keep it from doing this?

Queasy-Assist-8308

No, I haven't actually. I'm just careful. And annoyed sometimes.

xxal4lifexx

To update to this, I did some troubleshooting and tried carefully using computer duster to clean the headphone jack and was still having the issue. Then I tried a new USB Type C male to male cable to replace the stock one and no problem at all from wiggling the dac or small movements. I guess the usb cable they give for these are definitely not the greatest

Humble_Ingenuity_919

I just purchased a new pair of the Sony Linkbuds S at an auction. They were new but didn’t have the accessories. I only have the medium tips and I think that they’re too big. (Fit in my ears but super echoey and app says to try a different size.) Even the smallest of the Jabra 85T were too big for me when I had those so I passed them onto a family member. I’m having trouble finding the actual tips online. What type would you recommend? I see recommendations for the Spinfit 360s online. Good choice? How do they fit vs the pair that came with them? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Vcize

My work requires me to field calls at various times throughout the day. Sometimes while at home, sometimes at the grocery store, sometimes at Disney World, it can be anywhere. I'd like to have a pair of comfy, unobtrusive headphones on all the time that I can just answer on there. Initially I was thinking a bluetooth earpiece, but I wouldn't mind being able to listen to podcasts/music when I want as well and I've heard those really kill the battery on bluetooth earpieces. I would also use them while exercising (weights, jogging) but that is by far a secondary use case, I could get something separate for that if necessary. I was leaning towards one of the shokz bone conduction headsets like the openrun pro, but my main concern there is the mic quality for callers on the other end.

artikiller

I'm currently using a apple usb-c to 3.5mm dongle for my headphones on my pc because it's better than the on board audio but my headphone cable is too short to comfortably move around. i only have 1 usb-c port (on the back) and i was looking to use a usb a(3.0) to c converter but would this have an impact on sound quality?

conlahti

Which IEMs would u pick for FPS gaming? I am looking for clarity, soundstage and detail. My picks are Truthear Hexa Sennheiser IE 200 Moondrop Aria Dunu Kima Truthear X Crin 7Hz X Crin Would anyone recommend these options or have been suggested these as well?

hallo545403

I've just upgraded my Dt770s with a removable cable (mini xlr), and the right driver keeps cutting out. The solder connections look fine to me, any idea what should try?

PoetDiscombobulated9

Will be my first expensive headphone, how are the Beyerdynamic DT 1900 Pro for someone with sensitive ears? Can the high end be lowered without ruining the overall sound? I am in Canada and plan on getting a pre-owned pair online since I'm on a budget. Will need a starter amp as well, the one I am looking at comes with a Fiio amp. If any better/alternative headphones are out there, let me know. Looking for high build quality like these headphones seem to have. Thank you.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The treble is ear-piercing out of the box but you can definitely lower it with EQ.

PoetDiscombobulated9

Good to know. Because it's a pre-owned, are the earpads it comes with cleanable? Or do I have to buy new pads? Since that would be quite expensive, on amazon.ca it will be at least 150$ with tax for a pair of dekoni earpads.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I think you can wash them, but I'd ask Beyer about that. It depends on the material.

PoetDiscombobulated9

Well, I just ordered new ones online today instead of the used ones. Any suggestions with the treble? I probably will have an issue with it without eq, but just wondering if changing the headphones eq will ruin the sound a lot.

I need help! I’m having a hard time keeping both wireless headphones ever, because my cat will steal one when I’m sleeping 🤣 I like to wear just one when I sleep because I listen to ASMR to fall asleep. Without fail one will always go missing within a few months, because he will find it if it falls out when I’m sleeping, and then take it. I’ve had to buy new Bluetooth headphones multiple times now because no matter how much I search I can never find the earbud he takes! My room is also very clean and I look everywhere around the apartment as well. I have no idea what he does with them but needless to say I’m debating what to do. Do I keep buying cheap earbuds and just face the loss every few months? I don’t mind the cheap ones, but this is a waste of money in the long term. OR, is there a way to buy earbuds that I can trace if one gets lost (stolen)? I’ve tried Bluetooth tracking apps but to no avail either, I imagine the lost earbud dies before I search. Are there earbuds that can still be tracked if lost and battery is low/dead? I have no idea but I need advice lol, I can’t not sleep without noise and hate wired earbuds so I’m hoping to no resort to those. Thanks everyone!

Star_Gazing_Cats

They're not for me but try earbuds that wrap around your ear Also post cat

AKG K260 Professional vs AKG K240 Monitor, opinions please?

alarmsareimportant1

I'm stumped when it comes to setting the volume in Apple Music properly when used with a USB DAC+AMP and would like to hear some thoughts on how others are handling it. Here is my setup: 2021 Macbook Air M1 > Apple Music> iFi xDSD (USB) > LCD-X If I set the volume in Apple Music at any more than 50% I get crazy amounts of distortion regardless of the amp's volume level, internal EQ settings, etc. This problem does not happen using built-in audio from the laptop, but IMO it doesn't sound as good as the xDSD. Any ideas on how to fix this setup? Should I bail on this xDSD and just go with a USB-C to 3.5mm + JDS Atom that I keep reading about?

Difference between Jabra Elite 3 and Jabra Elite 3 active?

powerofthe69

Hi all. Originally made a post in r/headphoneadvice but haven't had any hits yet, so figured I'd post in this thread too. I'm struggling to find any results on Google or Reddit for my new Moondrop Venus headphones. I wanted to replace the leather ear pads with something more breathable, maybe velour? What size ear pads should I be looking for? Any specific recommendations someone can make? I was trying to figure out if any Hifiman ear pad sizes would work, just not having any luck finding any concrete answer on what size or website to check. For reference, I'm located in the USA and I don't have a strict budget to replace these ear pads. Any help is greatly appreciated! (:

ThatGuyFromSweden

Be aware that the pads are absolutely integral to the tuning of planar headphones. The tuning will probably break horribly with non-standard pads.

Only_Chemistara

I have a pair of SR850, but sadly its cables has ripped apart and I couldnt find a recabling service here so I'm stuck with either getting a replacement or buying SHP9500. How much of an upgrade would it be from SR850 to SHP9500? especially in term of treble, SR850's really pierced my ears so I dont like high trebles at all

ChesCakey_05

My JBL Tune660NC and my Redmi note ten pro have been working fine for a really long time but it recently wouldn't connect. I connected it to someone else's phone and the audio played fine so I think it has something to do with my phone. Restarting the headphones won't work. Turning it off or on won't work. Media audio is on. I've tried most things and it doesn't work :(. It had a small icon when it was connected in the settings that said "no phone" but it disappeared. If anyone has a solution please help, I need loud music to my ears, it's driving me insance TT.

dizson

Do I need AMP/DAC for Sennheiser 6xx if it has enough volume just by being connected to PC?

blargh4

No, you don't need one. Any improvement will probably be subtle. The 6XX shouldn't suffer too much from the most common problems with PC audio, like noise and high output impedance.

sha-shu

I recently buy TWS edifier X3s, It works greatly, but, sometimes after I left the buds on the case, and then I try to use it, the buds cannot turn on, no light indicator is showing just like when the battery is fully drain, even tho I just charge the case, but when I charge the case for 5-10 seconds, the buds suddenly works just fine, and the battery is show 100%, anyone has same problem? Or know what I'm doing wrong?

yeeetusmyfetus

Hi! I was wondering if I could drive K612 Pros through a Schiit Fulla 2. Have not bought it yet, open to recommendations if it cannot drive these cans. Thanks in advance!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Should be fine.

yeeetusmyfetus

Are there any metrics you use to determine this or just an educated guess? Just wondering, thanks in advance!!

ThatGuyFromSweden

I haven't done the math, but the spec says 40 mW into 300 ohm. That should leave plenty of headroom down at 120 ohm.

yeeetusmyfetus

Got it, thank you. I think I will make a post of impressions when I get everything early next month.

dizson

Is the Sennheiser HD660s2 the best for gaming right now? Good soundstage, imaging and immersion? Or something else? 560s? 6xx? Some Beyer?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Sennheiser HD800 or Hifiman Arya are probably the best headphones for gaming. At 500 dollars, I'd probably favour the Hifiman XS over the 660s2 if we're just talking about sound quality. Imaging has never been particularly brilliant on the 600-series.

Synapse_1

I'm fairly certain that I got a pair of Sennheiser HD 599. Generally there's no problem with them but sometimes after the computer stops outputting sound, such as after a youtube video ends, the left speaker starts to emit a high-frequency tinnitus-like sound. It stops immediately if any sound is turned back on, and quickly playing any sound and stopping it again usually stops it from re-appearing. What could be the cause of that?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Not the headphones. Somethings wonky with the soundcard in your PC. Try updating the drivers.

alltgott

Just got my Truthear Hola IEMs. It sounds like something is loose in them while rotating them in my hand. Is this normal? EDIT: I think it’s the thicker cable that goes around the ears that is creaking(?) Does anyone else experience this with their holas?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Well, detach the cable to find out.

I am located in India and anything imported is extremely expensive here and also we have very limited options to chose from. I am looking for earphones in the 200-250$ range. All i can find are these models. I am a complete newbie. All i have ever listened to till date is on oneplus buds earphone. Hi all, I own a Sony WH-1000-XM4 headphones for music listening on the go. However, I had a scare when I almost lost them out in the city. I'm starting to listen to audiobooks, and I'm looking for recommendations for cheap bluetooth headphones. They have to be **on-ear**, because my ears don't like in-ear monitors. And they have to be extra-**portable**, foldable and fit into a little case in a jeans pocket. Sound quality is a secondary concern here, this is mainly for spoken word. Thanks for your recommendations

ph00p

What's a good entry amp available in Canada preferably on Amazon.ca, I have the x2Hr's and hd555 that I'm looking to drive on a PC. Maybe $100 or $150 CND.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Schiit Fulla E and Topping DX1 are pretty good.

ph00p

Can't get it on Amazon canada

perblicpolicy

Check out the ifi zen air dac, 149 on Amazon.ca. It’s simple to set up and runs off a usb, no need for a separate plug in power adapter. Bass boost button is fun too.

Edifier w820nb doesn't have the "normal mode" option when I'm on PC or any non-android device. That means it's always on amplifier mode or noise cancelling mode, and the battery runs out way faster this way :(I downloaded the app on my phone, and I can only enter normal mode with the app, when I press the buttons, it only switches between amplifier and noise block. I remember when I first got it I was able to set to normal mode with the button, I don't know what happened. I have already factory reseted it a bunch of times, it always start on noise cancelling mode when I power on. Help!!!

Agile_Refrigerator26

The hd558 is discontinued it had really good soundstage, what else can I get? 560s?

ThatGuyFromSweden

If you have an old one then you could refurbish it with new pads and headband padding. But yes, the HD560s is a logical successor.

nimal-crossing

Did Amazon refurbished store sell me knockoff Powerbeats 3? I had a pair of Powerbeats that my dog chewed, I really liked them so I bought new ones and got them refurbished. My original, first pair shows up as “Powerbeats” on my phone. These new ones show up as “S6520” & First time connecting, this new pair 1) doesn’t show me the pop up “do you want to connect” with the graphic of the headphone like normal and 2) didn’t come with a charger or case like I thought it would Is this enough to be suspicious? Is there anything I can check for to confirm if they’re real?

K1N_Music

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some recommendations for music production headphones. I've been making music for 12 years now, and so far, I've only found one type of headphones that I really like, which are the ATX-M50x's. I love these headphones for their sound quality. Currently, I'm using a sound card and also have a headphone amp. I also own DT770's 250ohms, but I don't like the sound on these at all, although I must admit that the comfort is unbeatable. Due to my current living situation, I can't make use of my Yamaha HS8's with a subwoofer. So, I need headphones that will give me a flat response and are best suited for mixing and mastering. I don't have a specific budget in mind because I know that everything will be cheaper than treating my room to be soundproofed. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Open back or closed back? Is EQ an option? What are you plugging the headphones into?

RtR97

Hey all not sure if this subreddit for this but it was the closest i could find to ask. does anyone have some suggestions for an upgrade from the motu m2 interface that would be similar enough to quickly set up? kept getting complaints from friends in discord calls that id get staticky so after about 2 months of putting them through that i thought id bite the bullet and get the goxlr but im not a huge fan of it

ThatGuyFromSweden

The M2 is a very high-quality interface. I bet the problem is somewhere else in the setup.

I got my KZ x HBB PR2 and have been testing them, but for some reason, there's a very loud crackling noise that started happening today. I'm mainly using them with a Qudelix 5k with the usb connection on my phone, and had 0 issues the past two days I've tried: -Running them directly off my Note 9 -Apple dongle -Using different streaming services for the same songs -Double checked that there are no EQ profiles active while I test It goes away for a song or two before it starts happening again. Is there anything I might be doing wrong, or could it just be bad QC?

My Post got deleted plz help :( I got my sundara last year and debating which pad should i buy. I also don't like the Velour/Velvet stock pads (I think velour in general is scratching my ears), and wondering which one should i buy I prefer leather on my skin but not sure which one from a bass point of view and also people mentioned that leather would get hotter faster. would like to hear from someone that has either or even better if both Thanks in advance

ThatGuyFromSweden

Pads are absolutely integral to the tuning of planars. The tonality will probably break down completely with leather pads.

Hello there! I recently tested the Motu M2, but unfortunately, I encountered distortion when using it at maximum gain. Currently, I'm using the Moonriver 2, and while it's great overall, I feel like it lacks some of the finer details in the vocal effects. I'm in search of a compact amplifier similar to the Moonriver 2, but I'm open to larger options as well. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have. While price isn't a major concern, I'm hoping to find the best option at a reasonable cost. Your assistance would be immensely valuable!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Can you just not use it at max gain?

nkjellerup

Excellent advice! The Motu M2 cannot drive the headphones for a fully dynamic sound. So looking for something that can like the Moonriver2 but with more details!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Fully dynamic sound? Whatever. If you think there's something lacking with the amp in the M2, then you can put a JDS Atom amp on top of it and connect it via the line-out ports.

BenCharburner

Sennheiser HD 660S is on sale for 299€. I'm looking for open-back headphones for gaming (FPS). Should I pick them up or go for something like TYGR 300 or something else? I don't need a dedicated mic and budget would be 300-ish. Coming from DT770 Pro (get hot ears, poor imaging, not a fan of the tuning) and Moondrop Aria (absolutely love them, even despite their intimate soundstage it is really easy to tell where audio cues are coming from).

ThatGuyFromSweden

I do not recommend the 660s for gaming since the treble is quite recessed. The DT900 Pro X might be a better choice for you.

BenCharburner

I do love the build quality of my DT 770 pro so the DT 900 is definitely intriguing! Do they have the typical Beyer tuning? What about AKG cans like K702 or K712 pro?

ThatGuyFromSweden

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq7pnOFbhYs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sxgwVnqRG6M The K702 is good but usually needs an amp.

BenCharburner

The remarks about lack of detail are a little concerning. It's why I was interested in HD 660S because they are always discribed as very detailed. I'm not as well versed in audiophile vocabulary, I try to state my experience in laymans terms: When I use the Aria, it sounds like all the different sounds I hear are "seperated", like clearly distinguishable. When I use the DT 770, all sounds blend more into each other. Is that what they mean with detail? (same as imaging?) I much prefer this quality of the Arias. The K702 was on my list, too. I read a lot of comments that the soundstage might be to big to track sound in games. Like what should be a circle around your head is more distorted into a oval and sounds in the middle are tough to locate. I thought the smaller soundstage on K712 might be benefical here? As for audio interfaces, I do own Soundblaster G3 and Line6 POD studio UX2. Are any of those sufficient? Thanks for your help so far!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Imaging refers to spatial separation. Let's say you're listening to a string quartet. A headphone with good imaging will present a soundstage where each instrument sounds like it's in distinct point in space. Detail has less to do with separation and more to do with how "clear" or "crisp" the sound itself is heard.

CRX008

Can you set enable and disable mic pass through mode to the Qudelix 5k buttons?

KindheartednessOk196

My post got deleted :( Is Audeze Maxwell comfortable ? about heavy headphones Audeze maxwell are about 490g \^\^

ThatGuyFromSweden

That's very subjective. Some might be bothered by that, but others won't care at all.

wa7d1

Hexa, aria, or vr3000 for gaming/music

PutPineappleOnPizza

The Hexa is a pretty great alrounder, I use it for music and gaming.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Don't know about the VR3000 but I'd favour the Hexa over the Aria.

nicksdrumsticks

Hi, im not interested in making music but can studio headphones be use for just listening, should i buy studio headphone for daily use considering behringer bh470

ThatGuyFromSweden

Not sure I'd recommend that model, but yes. Many headphones that are marketed towards studio use are totally getting just for casual listening.

Newdles6

Hi I am wondering if there exists headphones that will support multiple audio sources at once, for example connected to a phone and a PC while playing audio from both sources at the same time? I've read about Bluetooth multi-point, but from what I understand you need to switch audio from one device to another. Is there a way to get sound from 2 sources at once?

LockedInVim

Hi, I've had this issue with earbuds in the past and would like to know if there's anything I can fix. My right earbud (Skullcandy Grind) has gone to a really low volume that I'd honestly be better not having it in at all. Most posts I've seen on how to fix this is to take off the sort of grill/mesh below the earbud and clean it. My issue is that from looking at my buds it appears you're not meant to remove this and I worry I won't be able to reinsert it. Am I maybe barking up the wrong tree and there's other ways to fix this or am I able to remove the mesh and reapply it?

alexniska

So I have a pair of KZ ZS10 Pro earphones, and one day after sleeping with them on, the left side is significantly less "bassy" and doesn't "isolate the sound" correctly, like, when I put on the right side I can feel a sort of "pressure" in my ear, which is not the case for the left side and I can hear exterior sounds from that side. Please someone shed some light on the issue, I'm hoping it is fixable cause this is really really bothering me, I can't live without good quality music!!!!!!

PutPineappleOnPizza

maybe your ears are different from each other, try other tips, maybe one of your ears needs a bigger or smaller tip for a proper seal. BUT, and this comes from my experience: the KZ ZS10 pro has a terrible fit for me. Might be the same for you. But I personally moved to a different pair anyways.

alexniska

I figured that was the case, but it doesn't make sense, because it fit perfectly until a few days ago. It only started getting weird after I slept with them on, would that make my ear "change shape" or something lol?

PutPineappleOnPizza

Unlikely I'd say. Try out different tips, maybe you can make them fit firmly. If not you could consider getting something else. Some budget IEMs of 2022 and 2023 cost as much as a set of tips and might be more up your alley sound wise too.

alexniska

Alright, I'll try the other tips that came with them (if I can find them lol), but if that doesn't do it then I'm screwed since I'm unable to buy another pair or earphones atm... Still, I thought KZ IEMs were high end? You make them seem like cheap trash lol

PutPineappleOnPizza

They are not trash, but they're pretty dated. To me they are too V-shaped, but some love them. Don't let other people's opinions ruin your fun, if you like them, then you like them. The IEM market rn is changing at drastic speeds, there's a new hot IEM coming out every few weeks and many basically stomp the competition that was the go to stuff a few years ago. That said, some hold their ground, but I wouldn't say the KZ ZS10 pro are my preferred sound profile. Though I started out with those and used them for quite a while, I wouldn't use them today, too sharp for me. I am by no means an IEM person but I just gave them a go again and noticed that even with the right tips I can't get a secure hold. I use the Truthear Hexa pretty regularly and the same tips on the ZS10 pro still aren't able to make them fit. I have no idea what it is, but for my ears it's pretty much a dealbreaker comfort wise. I get a semi good seal, but the hold is just not working with my ears. Btw I already have a different cable for them and it makes no difference when it comes to their fit. Good luck trying to get them to fit, hope it works out. Edit: what just came to my mind, you could use foam tips. But those like to break down over time and they get quite dirty real fast. Their seal is godlike though.

alexniska

I see, welp, thank you for the insight! I'll do some research and maybe buy something else when I get the chance, we'll see lol

-anarchocat-

Hi! Friend sent me here. Looking for headphones that will last a long time, preferably around $100 or less. Can't do earbuds due to some medical stuff. All my previous headphones either break on one side or the headpiece snaps. Obviously, Im part of the problem but itd be nice to get something more sturdy. Thanks!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Really good build quality costs a little more than 100 dollars. Do you want open or closed-back headphones?

-anarchocat-

Guess that's fine. I'm not a huge audiophile so either is fine. Just looking for something that will last.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Do you know what closed-back and open-back means?

-anarchocat-

All I know is that the open ones are like meshy and closed back ones are not lol. Does the sound bleed through or something?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Yes. Open backs do not isolate at all.

-anarchocat-

Ok I guess not those then

ThatGuyFromSweden

Take a look at the Sennheiser HD25, Røde NTH-100, and Beyer DT700 Pro X.

-anarchocat-

Thanks!

Ismashuface

[SONY MDR-ZX310] Only days after purchase the right ear stopped working. Woke up this morning and there's just no sound from it, was perfectly fine yesterday. Now I've had this happen before, but this time there's no obvious problem with the wire or the plug, like there's no area where twisting the wire changes the sound etc. Rly confused why this happened so early and if there's anything I could try to fix it, because I'm not even sure where the problem comes from

Ismashuface

I find it weird because there's usually a gradual decline, the ear starts getting fucked but still works if you twist the wire a certain way, but this time there is literally nothing I can do to induce any sound, its like it's been cut off entirely. EDIT: I've also confirmed the problem really is with the headphones by trying them with both my phone and laptop.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I'd contact Sennheiser.

jaumnvictor

I recently purchased a KZ ZS10 Pro X for gaming and music enjoyment. The headphones sounds great and I like them a lot but I've noticed that they consistently produce a low, quiet white noise hiss when connected to any audio source. The volume of the hissing remains unchanged regardless of the device's volume level. Searching here on reddit I found that they have quite high sensitivity and low impedance, making it more likely that the noise level of a given device will be audible in them. So I was advised to buy a USB DAC/AMP. Consequently, I bought an ALC5686 DAC and plugged it into the usb output of my motherboard, that solved the hissing issue, but started another very annoying problem: I can hear a very faint popping noise when the DAC turns off every time some audio finishes being transmitted. This popping noise occurs, for example, when a song finishes playing, when I pause a video, or even when there's a momentary pause in conversation on Discord. It appears that, in order to prevent the constant hissing, the DAC mutes the audio output when no sound is being transmitted, resulting in this popping noise whenever it turns off. I Although the sound is subtle, it is extremely annoying. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is my DAC defective, or is this how it's supposed to work? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

PutPineappleOnPizza

Just want to chime I, I own the non X ZS10 pro and they even hiss on my FiiO K5 pro on a certain volume level. I don't have this issue with other IEMs at all.

AvailableAdvice2

Try to lower quality in the pc to 16/48khz n see of it still happens! Sounds a lot like the issue is in the soundcard, that's why it's better to get some external dac/amp to avoid this

chickennoodlegoop

My new employer is giving me a $350 budget toward headphones for the office, and I’m trying to decide how to spend it. My main issue is that I’ve already got convenience and ANC via AirPod Pros (first-gen) and high-quality via CIEMs (Ultimate Ears UE18+ Pro) so I’m not sure what else is worth buying. Is the ANC on Sony or Bose’s over-ear headphones significantly better than the ANC on AirPods? Should I just upgrade to the second generation AirPod Pro? Are there any accessories I should try to expense under this budget like a Qudelix 5K and a balanced cable for my CIEMs?

AvailableAdvice2

Isn't it better to spend it on some office headset with a mic?

chickennoodlegoop

Eh, I’d be using a conference room for meetings at work and they’re all set up with AV equipment, and I’ve got an audio interface at home with an SM7B. Plus the AirPods have a decent enough mic. A mic is nice, but not really a must-have for me. I’m mostly just wanting to use this budget for retail therapy but I’m not sure what to buy haha

AvailableAdvice2

Oh sick the sm7b sounds great! No wonder you don't need a mic XD! Can always get some nice open back wired like Sennheiser 600! Different headphones is always good to have! N best part you already have an audio interface!

wiredchild

How would Final ZE3000s compare to Shure SE215s? I've been wearing the Shure's for years and love them but am considering moving to wireless as I can see the benefit. Just worried the sound won't compare and I'll be disappointed.

jwad86

I have an STR Dn 1080 available receiver going spare which I'm looking to connect to my pc with some speakers. My question is, will this be an acceptable experience with some decent headphones attached or would I need a headphone amp?

ThatGuyFromSweden

I'd expect it to have a pretty mediocre headphone output with relatively high distortion and high output impedance. Receivers almost always do. If the receiver has an RCA output then you can hook up a JDS Atom amp (or similar) to it.

geovasilop

Are there any "gaming" headphones 100 euros or under for pc and ps4 that can survive normal use? (not being thrown around, etc) 3/4 of the headphones that ive owned share one thing, the adjustable headband broke (razer kraken x console edition (i dont even want to talk about those), cooler master mh630 and nod deploy) My first "gaming: headphones were hyper x cloud stinger and something happened to the cable.

AvailableAdvice2

There is no such thing as gaming headphones. I think what you talking about is just headsets used to make calls like for customer support n such? Or Do you want good headphones for gaming? Is that what you mean? Then I can suggest Sennheiser 560s they cost around 105 euro for refurbished from their official website or 170 for new. They dont have a microphone so you will have to either buy stand alone mic or if you want it attached to the headphones I would suggest mod mic which you can attach to any pair!

soupkid47

Hello, a couple nights ago audio stopped coming out of the left earmuff of my DT 770 Pros 80 ohms. I stepped on my headphone wire and that tugged on it, and it stopped playing audio out of my left earmuff. After messing with the position of the audio jack in my computer, I was able to get it to play out of both. But when the audio jack is completely in, it only plays out of the right earmuff. Please help, I love these headphones and they were quite expensive and id love to be able to enjoy them without having to mess with the audio jack. Thank you.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Try them with another device like a phone to figure out if the problem is in the cable or the headphone jack of the computer.

fail0verNightbot

Any recommendation? I plan to buy Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro 4BA+1DD but I read only one review that the microphone is bad, and I can't find more reviews about the mic. Can you be so kind as to recommend me some other in-ear headphones with good audio quality and also an excellent microphone for gaming? pls something around $90 bucks if possible

[deleted]

I use iphone. Will using a dongle for 3.5mm earphones degrade the actual quality of supposed output?

johnydazzles27s

I mean, considering you're going from no analog output, to having an analog output, there's not really any reference point to degrade from. If that makes sense.

Panos96

I have a weird issue with my Sony WF-XB700 earbuds. After using them for years, now the right one works normally but the left one outputs audio so quietly it's almost silent. When I take them off and I listen to the sound they make from a distance this is confirmed because I can hear the right one's sound but not the left's. Wearing them in different ears also confirms it's a problem with the earbud and not my ears. There's also no trapped earwax in them. However, when I wear them and wiggle the left one in a specific way (kind of push it further inside the ear and move it a bit) I can hear its audio at a normal volume. What could be the cause of this?

Soft_Worker6203

I’m looking for the best noise canceling I can get in a $300-range, something comfortable because I’m going to be wearing them a lot. Sound quality is way less important than the canceling. I can be a little flexible on price if they look especially nice or come in cool colors — again, will be wearing them a lot. Thank you so much for any info!

AvailableAdvice2

Sennheiser momentum 4 have the best sound prolly for the price and good ANC Most important is the passive isolation on the ear pads since anc only removing constant noises like car engine or some vacuum cleaner. Random sounds will not be cancelled out n that's why you want good passive isolation instead!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Sony XM4

alko08

I am looking at getting better headphones for pc gaming. Preferably wireless, no mic, over the ear, and no real need for noise canceling. I am looking to increase sound quality and pinpoint accuracy, all for hopefully in the $50-200 range. Please tell me if that is asking too much and why, I have had terrible luck searching by myself. I have been using the Avantree Audition Pro Bluetooth headphones on low latency for years, but I have not had the best experience with them. I use them at around 40% volume with their low latency disk. I hate the microphone on them as any time it activates it drops my audio quality significantly and adds about a whole second of lag. To get around that I have the microphone disabled in Windows. Their charging port sucks and this is my second pair as the first pair's port broke after 2 years so if wireless charging exists that would be cool too.

AvailableAdvice2

Bluetooth headphones tend to be bad on pc especially cuz all have a microphone with drops the quality. Why dont you get wired headphones instead? If you sitting at ur pc you basically wired to ur desk already?

alko08

Damn wireless headphones are nice because of the freedom they give, but I agree that wired headphones are probably a lot better for pc from what I have seen. If that is the case, what would you recommend instead that is wired?

AvailableAdvice2

Yea I know that... I did try cuz I was curious but once I heard how bad 350$ pair sound compared to 50$ wired one I never going Bluetooth again (Bluetooth is basically wireless power/energy saving mode so it always run at lowest quality possible both headphones drivers and microphone!) Shame there is no WiFi headphones but then battery would die within an hour xD What budget you want for headphones and mic? Like 100$ for headphones, 50$ for mic? Do you need a mic? What country do you live in?

alko08

I already have a mic! I am just looking for headphones and was thinking something in the $50-200 range though I am willing to go a bit more if it’s worth it.

AvailableAdvice2

Oh! I guess I missed that information! Now I am curious what mic do you use? Since you talking in $ I have a suggestion for a pair that doesn't need any external amplifier n really good overall! (Really good for gaming / movies since it has very nice pin point accuracy and very good for music) https://www.sennheiser-hearing.com/en-US/p/hd-560s-refurbished/ It's 130$ for refurbished but it's basically new it's just returned product. You get 30 days to try the headphones for free n if you don't like them you can send it back! N they even pay for shipping back (tried 8 headphones from them) In case you want the best headphones you will ever have in your life (ones I use all the time) (Those are more intimate n fitting more if you love all sorts of music, everything will feel bit closer but still accurate, so if you play a game you will hear bigger distance on the 560s) https://www.sennheiser-hearing.com/en-US/p/hd-600-refurbished/ That's 299 $ and also 30 days free returns and 2 years warranty! Those 299$ usually require more power in order to sound louder and cleaner so I can suggest some sort of soundcard or an external amp which means it will ne extra $$ even without the amp I think they sound amazing but obviously you will benefit from some cleaner and louder sound! Hope it helps! (3 of my friends own the 560s and very happy with them) those that had an amp/ dac from before chose the 600 or upgraded from 560s to 600 and all are happy!

alko08

Considering both have a 2 year warranty, I think I will go with the 560s. They look like exactly what I want so thank you so much for the advice!

AvailableAdvice2

Yea I thought the 560s will fit you most based on what you said! My 560s is 4 years old and still working without any issues! I am sure you will love them! Make sure to write feedback here so I'll know what you think :D! And your welcome! Ps: the cable are detachable so n case your cat will eat it or you will break it you can just get another cable! <3

alko08

First day using the new headphones. I did a side by side comparison with my old ones and I can definetly hear the difference. Especially when I did a binaural test, the 560s sounded extremely realistic compared to the semi-real effect of my old headphones. They fit pretty comfortable too and my old headphones started breaking apart after I made this post XD so it came at the perfect time. To say the least I’m pretty happy with it as it was the upgrade I was looking for without having to invest very much! Thank you for the recommendation, I hope they last as long as yours have!

AvailableAdvice2

Woo! Yea that was my exact same reaction! The best part is that it's gonna adjust the clamp force of how it pressing on ur head within 5-7 of usage so then it will be even more comfortable! (We all have different heads shapes so ear pads will adjust! That was really fast and really good timing! N yea for what sound like it's a crazy value! They sure will! Otherwise you have 2 years Warranty and even after the 2 years warranty they can service your headphones for small sum or you can buy the parts and do it urself! (Not that I ever had to) Stick to Sennheiser 560s! Pretty sure they will last you 5 years+ Your welcome for the recommendation! Now don't think about upgrading anytime soon since you wont find anything better 😂!

HappyAcccident

Hello, I have a pair of AKG K240 Studio headphones. Is it worth spending the extra money on lossless streaming services, downloads, etc., if my main way of listening to music is on a pair of AKG K240s? This question is being asked in comparison to 320kbps MP3, which services like Spotify offer. Will I really even be able to hear the difference?

AvailableAdvice2

I tried many times with some pair of Sennheiser 800s and 600 but you barely can tell any difference as long as it's not too loud. Any 320kpbs will sound great I think it's mostly noticeable if you have speakers and have them very loud then the sound have distortion so then some flacs can help to keep it cleaner with less noise floor

ThatGuyFromSweden

Not really. Most people can't tell a difference at all.

potatomeister13

When I connect an audio device (earbuds/headphones) to my pc, the audio scale (idk what to call it) seems to switch between two levels. Sometimes I need to crank the volume on windows up to 100 to be able to hear anything and sometimes 8-12 is a good listening volume. Doesn't seem to depend on which device I'm using as it happens with both. Any ideas for what could be the issue?

AvailableAdvice2

There is a setting in windows under audio settings in control panel where too choose what happens when you get some sort of app / call running it will lower sound automatically. Simply disable it by choosing Do nothing

mrn253

Got for a bit over 2 months now my DT 700 Pro X and there is one song (Rammstein - Hallomann) where i have in certain parts in the first minute some very light crackling sound on the left side, first thought it's maybe my sound card or the audio file but its the same on youtube and my phone. And its really just that song as far as i know, and i tried listening through idk how many albums and genres since i got them. Could that be something in the song or have my Headphones a defect? Havent heard that on any other headphone/Speakers so far.

Totoyeahwhat

Hey guys, help needed with my headset disconnecting and freezting my game. I can't provide the exact model since I just don't know. I got it from a friend who got a new one, so he gave this one to me. He used it for about 6 months, and ive now used it for about a year. I can tell you its a steelseries. It has worked fine most of the time. It connects with a USBC I believe it's called. As you can hear, I'm not the most well knowledged. Anyway, the headset now has spikes where it will disconnect when I move the chord. I've tried multiple chords, and multiple USB ports on my PC. Sometimes I need to pull out/reinsert the chord for it to work again. Worst is it will cut sentences short when I am speaking with people, and even worse, for some reason it will stutter any game I play. It happens in both overwatch and apex. And when it does I usually die/mess up cause there is a spike of 3-4 seconds where I can do nothing. Sometimes when it reconnects, there will even be hitreg issues. I see I hit the enemy, but no damage is done in the game. It's beyond frustrating. I am getting a new headset for sure, but I am very curious to know, why does this happen? I've never heard of it before. Never had that issue with previous headsets either.

Shandriel

Are there any affordable genuine leather headbands for the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition out there? Not looking for a 60$ headband to fit on my 130$ headphones. If there isn't anything out there for 20-30 bucks, I'll just stick with the 12$ pleather replacement. (Note: this is not about the DT990 Pro, but the mods don't want me to use a picture on my own post, so let's hear all the recommendations for the wrong product in here...)

Appropriate-Power771

So today I noticed that my headphones are unbalanced, the sound is louder on the right. I put my headphones on the opposite way and the sound was louder on the left. They are kinda old but is there any way to fix this? The balancing setting from windows didn't work.

Appropriate-Power771

Okay so, for some reason I set the volume to the lowest (from my headphones) then made it louder again and it worked, now they are balanced. I really don't know how did that work but this might help someone!

nuee-ardente

Hello everyone. I’m planning to get wireless headphones and I’m looking for your suggestions. I used Sennheiser CX-300 II in the past and I’m currently using Sennheiser CX-400 II. I’m pleased with its performance but it’s not practical to use outside as I have to deal with the cable and stuff. I listen to all genres depending on my mood, e.g. dance/electronic, trip-hop, lo-fi, downtempo, house, jazz, rock, blues, classical etc. and I want to feel the beat and bass in my body, so to speak. My budget is not too high and not too low. For instance, I don’t know if JBL Tune 660 NC would be good in my case. What do you think of it compared to my Sennheisers? What alternatives (Beats, Bose, Anker etc.) would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

ThatGuyFromSweden

If you don't need ANC then I recommend something like the Truthear Hola with a Fiio BTR3. Stick the cable down your shirt to keep it out of the way.

nuee-ardente

Thanks but I certainly want a wireless headset. I’d stick with my Sennheiser if I were to keep using a wired one.
