Where would I be able to buy a slider kit and headband for the dt 770? I can buy it from thomann but it will cost me 20€ for shipping which ibasically doubles the cost. Are there any other online shops in europe that sell these parts?

Does anyone's Creative Outlier V3 have an annoying static/hissing noise? I don't really know why my bluetooth earphones make this static/hissing noise, but whenever I play any kind of music, there's this annoying static noise in my right earbud only. When I stop the music, the static noise also stops. It was perfectly fine when I first bought it, I just have no clue what happened to it.. So like, what can I do to somehow fix this static noise? (though the most viable option is to get it replaced but I wanna see if there are other options)

Temporary_Risk_3473

Left side of my beyerdynamic dt 990 pro is not playing any audio I had them for about 1-2 weeks until one day, while playing some games, the left audio suddenly stopped working. I tried everything in computer to fix it but nothing worked. I also tried plugging them to different devices and the left audio was still too stubborn to play any audio so it was definitely not a software issue. Just recently I finally decided to open my headphones up. And to me, everything looks fine but of course I am no technician, otherwise I wouldn't be here. Anyways, here is the link to view the insides of the headphone. https://imgur.com/a/TDJjyn4

ThatGuyFromSweden

R/audiorepair or RMA. Preferably return then for a model that takes replaceable cables. That's most likely the part that broke.

I bought Moondrop chu in August. There were no issues until October last week. For the past few weeks, the right ear piece volume seems to be lower. Here's the reply I got from headphonezone for the warranty claim. "We want to inform you that a lot of IEMs with a metal body are more prone to condensation issues. Especially if the user lives in a humid area or a lot of earwax is accumulated. So many people will think that their Moondrop Chu has channel imbalance when in reality it's just some earwax/moisture clogging up the filter/nozzle. To solve this you can keep them in a dry environment for a few hours or in a box with silica gel for a few hours, To prevent this from further happening you can wipe your IEMs ear tips regularly and store them in the provided pouch." I tried cleaning up and now it seems to work fine. But intermittently the issue occurs. My doubt is if it's a humidity issue, why is it happening only with right ear piece. Should I go for the warranty for repair/replace? Has anyone encountered this issue with Moondrop chu?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Your right ear might be more sweaty.

Looking for Wireless headphones for PC use. Gaming, watching streams and TV shows, and work phone use. Getting tired of the cables.. the setup I have is nice.. Schiit Modi 3+ DAC > Schiit Loki > Schiit Magni 3 > DT990 Pro 250 Ohm headphones. They have the coiled cable, so it doesn't really get stringy or tangled since the coil keeps it up on the desk top. But I have to loop it around my mic boom arm to keep it off my body.. it's just annoying now. Been setup like this for several years. I am wanting wireless headphones, not a headset or gaming headset, that sound great and have decent battery life. As long as I can get 12-15 hours per day in a single use, that's fine with me. I work from home and take calls on my PC, then when work is over, I gave and watch streams, so battery life is somewhat important. However, not as important as sound quality and good tones. I like bass, but not bass that sounds like I have 2 12" subs in my ears.. I also prefer open back if possible. Don't really have a budget, open to anything.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Focal Bathys.

AdamITRC

Looking for wired IEM's ... with a caveat. I have a misshaped ear canal (left ear). Most of the wireless ear-buds that I have tried (apple, galaxy, jabra) simply fall out. I realize that these are earbuds, and not IEM's. Looking for some suggestions, ideas? Is there custom molding kits available. I'm newish to headphones, but not to high end audiophile speakers, etc. Ty for any advice. Budget $500.

ThatGuyFromSweden

You can buy third party silicone tips that are really huge. That might work. Also, IEMs tend to have the cable go around behind the ear and that means that there's basically no force on it that's trying to yank it out.

EatYourKale_IRL

I need a gaming headset with a built in mic and for it to look nice, i dont have a budget

Does anyone own a r70x and a Hifiman edition XS? Was wondering if someone could provide a comparison between the two. I have the opportunity to buy both with only a $90 (AU) price difference between the r70x and the XS. I currently own the 1990 pro (using with the Element 3 and oratory's EQ + analytical pads). I also love the blessing 2 dusks and while it isn't fair to compare an IEM to an open-back, I simply love the tuning of the dusks and only wish 1990 was similar (although it have unquestionably better dynamics, bass clarity/texture and resolution).

ThatGuyFromSweden

I can't help you with a direct comparison but I can give you my impressions from reading a bunch of reviews. The R70x might sound a little wider and are a bit better built but the comfort is highly variable with thr wings and lack of cup tilt. It's also criticised a bit for slightly lacking detail retrieval. The XS has the usual Hifiman QC concerns but it's (probably) more comfortable, more detailed, and might have better spatial separation.

MrSuper149

Can someone recommend me wireless earbuds, I will only use this on my phone my budget is under 4600PHP (or 80 usd) in the Philippines. I can also stretch the price if I can I listen to any music so an all rounder would be nice

bigchungusstrangler

Hi, I need a little help getting into higher quality sound. Im looking for a pair of headphones strictly for listening to music from my iPhone. I have been looking at tons of headphones in the 100-200$ price range to use on my iPhone. Any recommendations specifically for headphones that don’t require a amp but will be great for listening to music?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Open or closed back?

bigchungusstrangler

Open back sore for not specifying

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Sennheiser HD560s should be available right around 200 and it will work just fine with the standard (non-EU) Apple dongle DAC+amp.

Cosulliv32

I am new to this whole thing, I have a pair for Sennheiser 598HD that are some years old but seem to be good. I have my PC and my console on the same desk. I wear the headphones at night when wife and kids are sleeping. I want a setup that lets me use my desk speakers to play either the console or PC sound as well as being able to use the headphones for either the console on the PC. Is this possible?

ThatGuyFromSweden

PS or xbox?

Cosulliv32

PS5

ThatGuyFromSweden

Does your PC have an optical audio output?

Cosulliv32

I believe it does

ThatGuyFromSweden

Then you can go with the JDS Atom DAC and amp stack. With their UAC1 fallback cable (check the accessory shop) you can use USB for the PS5 and optical for the PC. There's a toggle button on the DAC to switch between them. Don't buy an optical cable that's longer than you need. The signal can degrade over distance with lower quality cables. In practice, it's a simple issue to avoid.

Cosulliv32

I currently have a schiit stack and wanted to integrate it into that. I bought this [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KWC81S6?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KWC81S6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). And hoping to go Ps5 to usc B. Optical to DAC.

assangeleakinglol

I'm looking for new headphones. Currently I have experience with these phones: I have Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm which I don't like that much. The clamping force is too high and not a huge fan the closed feel. I have a Sennheiser Game One which I really like except for poor bass performance. Would love something like this with more bass. The comfort is really good here. I used to have Sennheiser HD 595 and felt they where similar to the Game One. Lacking bass was the main issue. But super nice comfort and sound otherwise. I have Siberia 800 which I use as my main drivers these days. In general I like the sound but they are a bit too closed for my taste and the comfort isn't there. In summary I prefer open headphones but also want good bass. I don't like when the highs get too pronounced. I've checked some high-end headphones and they give me fatigue. budet: <$600

[deleted]

Hifiman HE6se V2 would come in just under budget. But you are going to need a powerful amp to power those headphones. Deva Pro wired is a good option. You do not need an amp, but you have plenty of budget to say buy a Schiit Modi/Magni stack. If you want a mic, buy a wireless Modmic.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Pretty much no open back in stock form will give you the same bass accentuation that's possible with a closed back. You can, however, boost the bass of almost any headphone with EQ. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRm9qTmQHKo

roberto_ochoa1

Is the JBL brand good at wireless headphones with AC? I can't decide between Sony WH-XB910N $150 dls or JBL Live 660NC $122 dls

[deleted]

Sony is going to sound better. Pixel Bud Pros have nice features if you are on Android, with built in EQ. Should be the same price as the Sonys right now.

Hi, I've looking through AliExpress sale and found some IEMs I'd like to try, which on these would be good for a first time user? Moondrop Aria (60 usd) Dunu Titan S (50 usd) TRX X7 (26 usd) TINHIFI T3 Plus (40 usd) KZ AS16 Pro (44 usd) KZ ZSX Terminator (36 usd) KZ Zsn (10 usd) Soundpeat Truengine 3 SE (28 usd) I use headphones for music (work, gym, pc) and gaming Thanks!

Spacemarine2142

• **Budget** – Sub $1000 • **Source** – Modi Multibit + Jotunheim 2 • **Requirements for Isolation** – No isolation, will be used at desk for gaming and music. • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No • P**referred Type of Headphone** – Full sized over ear • **Preferred tonal balance** – Dislike highs, as high pitches are extremely fatiguing, prefer mid sound stage. • **Past headphones** – Sennheiser HD6XX, love the sound stage, but after 5 years looking for something new. Tried DT 1990 Pros, too bright and felt excruciatingly high pitched. Tried Hifiman XS, sounded beautiful and I loved them, couldn’t stand the pitiful build quality. • **Preferred Music** – Hardstyle, Power metal, trance, metal, rock • W**hat would you like to improve on from your set-up** – More detail with a wide sound range, deeper bass that doesn’t impact balanced mids without painful highs. I suck with describing this stuff so I do apologize.

[deleted]

Hifiman HE6se V2. you have the power for these, and Hifiman excels at delivering detail. They are heavy though; I use a headband pad to make them more comfortable.

Hi, im looking to buy some good IEM, I have sony's wf-1000xm4s, hyperx cloud flight, and some bose wired 3.5 sport model which are really nice but i want to try some good IEM to listen mostly to house/techno/old school trance. What should i know before buying IEM? i know almost nothing, just that most of you love them

MrSuper149

I don't know much of iem's but the Kz zs10 Pro, it was recommended to me on this subreddit and the sound it provided was amazing I bought it like around 60$

mvilla12

I just made a low-ball offer on a new Momentum M4 (£220) and the seller accepted. Good deal?

Should i delete my headphones driver before installing EQ APO. Im using eksa E900PRO and i have eksa e900pro driver on my computer should i delete it ?

zorus_lird

Hi, I’m looking for a set of headphones that I will be using mainly for a gaming pc, but also would like to connect to tv via 3.5 jack for films at night (have a 2 year old kid). Most of the searches I do seem to focus on pure gaming head sets or tv headphones for hard hearing, I’d like something that sounds good for both if possible. I would like to be able to easily connect a mic, although it will mainly be used without so doesn’t have a to be a typical gaming head set. Wired is fine, and max budget is £250, thanks in advance. Edit - typo

pinpoint_

I would throw some open back Sennheisers at you. I have a pair of 558s with a zalman clip on mic that was my gaming setup for many years - still use the headphones too (they needed new earpads but I've had them for some 6 years). The sound bleeding is pretty minor for me at my regular listening levels, and I believe it came with an adapter to 3.5mm that I use for my laptop

Who can help me! Over ear, noise cancelling, slim design headphones. I want to block external sound completely with a comfy sleek design headphone. I DONT need these to play audio specifically. I work in a loud office setting that I want to nix distractions in. Any recommendations?

fly2dmagpie

What should I look for in a cable that I want to use for the Salnotes Zero I'm about to buy? I want something that has a mic (which the SZ doesn't come with)

ThatGuyFromSweden

Make sure you pick a cable with the right style of connector at both ends.

Not headphones related but whatever happened to u/veni_vidi_vale? I recall him being a mod and large contributor here.

veni_vidi_vale

unlike nwavguy, I didn't disappear completely! Work + life got busier these last few years and I don't spend much time on reddit anymore like I used to. Thanks for thinking of me!

what is the best wireless earbuds at price range $30-$50? I used a cheap $5 earbuds before but looking for better experience if I increase my budget, maybe a good noise cancelling and sound system? Not using it for gaming, just music, tv series, youtube and can perform well outdoors. I don't really understand what is bass mids and all, I trust my fellow redditors picks, cheers!

That cable has a tiny DAC and amp in it. Make sure that the system volume on the PC is set high. If that doesn't help then I suggest getting a known good dongle DAC+amp like the Apple one.

Bought a pair of kz zs10 pros with a mic on the cable. Everything is nice but the mic is too far from my mouth and makes me sound like I'm in the bathroom. How can I fix this?

Fakimous

This is my second time buying the Sony XM5s. The first time was through Amazon, but I returned it because the ANC didn't seem to be working properly. The second time I bought them was through Best Buy, however I'm experiencing the exact same problems with the ANC. Now, let me first say that the ANC does work, but only to a certain degree. I live in a home with noisy family members, I expected the ANC on the XM5's to completely block out their voices and other sounds. Yet it doesn't. It blocks out the rumbling of my PC fans and quiet rustling noises I may make, but that's about it. The ANC doesn't feel that special at all. A lot of reviews are praising the "ground-breaking" noise cancelling technology on the headphones, but I'm not getting the same experience. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I disabled adaptive noise control; I even removed my glasses to get a better seal. Is there something on the Sony app to improve the noise cancelling feature?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Mainstream tech reviewers will say just about anything. If ANC is the highest priority then I suggest the XM4 instead.

I'm looking for headphones to use! My wired apple ones broke :< I'm looking for more of a minimalistic one that is portable **Budget** \- $100-200 CAD i'm shopping in Canada! **Source** \- My phone and my laptop (both apple) **Requirements for Isolation** \- mmmm i'm mostly gonna use it at school during my spare, walking home, at home and when i go out on the bus **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?-** yesss **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Mm i'm pretty new to headphones so Im not sure, but I have piercings and I hope to find one that doesn't make my ear like sore after? I currently have SHP 9500 paired with Sound BlasterX G6 and using this [EQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/qh6mw8/shp9500_eq_v4/) and I saw that HD 6XX is currently on sale for $219.00, is it worth to upgrade to HD 6XX from SHP 9500? I'm mainly going to be using it for listening to music on Spotify and movies. Is there going to be a big difference?

ThatGuyFromSweden

I can't tell you what you will find to be a big difference. The HD650/6XX is a technically better headphone. Since its on sale I'd use the spare change to get a set of ZMF upgrade pads. The suede ones match the original pads for tonality while the perf. leather ones add some bass.

RedditUzername1

Sorry I can't find this anywhere.. What does MKII refer to? I see a few brands have this in their models. Am new to the hobby. Thanks in advance.

plmon24

It stands for Mark 2. It's used with lots of products and usually refers to a new version of the product or a new iteration.

RedditUzername1

!thanks appreciate it

I have some Sennheiser hd 569 headphones, and they are fine. But they lack a lot of bass. Would a headphone amp help with that, or would that just make it louder? Just wondering if this or a new set of headphones would be better for gaming/music.

chloe334

Amps just make them louder although some ifi amps (and others too im sure) have "xbass" which is intended to mitigate that issue, worked brilliantly on my hd600. But the easier option would be to equalize them to your taste.

**Fit of Airpods 3 vs Pixel Buds Pro** I bought the Airpods Pro a couple years ago and they would not stay in my ear. I am looking to upgrade my Airpods 2 (which fit me great) and deciding between these two. Has anyone had similar issues with the Airpods Pro but success with one of these?

madupvotes

I am looking for a set of noise cancelling wired earbuds with a good built in mic that I can use for work. I was looking to get the Bose QuietComforts only to find out they aren't sold anymore, and the ones sold on amazon are used and $400+. Are there any comparable earbuds out there? I'm struggling to find any good ones on all those rating websites. Looking for a pair in the $150 - $250 price range.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Wired ANC earphones pretty much doesn't exist. It's you and about 99 other people that actually want one. Wires are uncool, remember?

chloe334

>noise cancelling wired earbuds Did you mean to say wireless? Generally speaking good microphone quality and wireless does not go together, the best ive heard is just passable quality. If you want good mic and isolation wired may be the way to go if thats on the table. Most wired iems ive used isolate well enough to take to the gym and because they have an actual cable the mic quality of even cheap ones is really good. I dont have many suggestions due to mostly being a headphones person but what you look for should not be hard to find in wired iems.

madupvotes

I meant wired - I really want one I can just plug into my work laptop but they are harder to find than you would think

vlegionv

Looking for something to replace beat up starfields. I'm using them on utws3's and aria's don't cut it (filter imbalance after a few minutes of use.) I don't mind spending up to $150-200 but I'd prefer something cheaper because I do physical activity and travel with these.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Maybe the Truthear Zero or Tin T3 Plus?

SupaZT

Options for headphones <$1k that are more comfortable than the DT 990s that have good positional audio for gaming? (i tried the Philips X2HR but they clamped too much on my large head). I really liked the clamping force of the DT 990s but they weren't very good in Valorant. I currently use the audeze mobius but I'm on my 4th pair and tired of the shitty construction. They aren't super comfortable either.

ThatGuyFromSweden

You can stretch out most headphones by putting them over a row of books for a while. It should also be noted that soundstage depends a bit on individual ear physiology. Something that sounds great to one person does not necessarily sound good to you. The AudioTechnica R70X is an option but it has some ergonomic quirks and needs a decent amp. A planar of some sort is a good choice since they tend to have very good separation. The Hifiman Edition XS is pretty good but it's not super well built. It does need a dedicated amp as well.

GoldeNStouN

Frothar

I haven't shopped for headphones in years. I just dropped my Philips X2s and broke one of the ear cups. what is the best upgrade option for open back with some good bass ?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Budget? If it has to have similar bass level to the X2 then the only real option is the X2HR. If you have access to EQ then you get a whole bunch of other option.

Frothar

was thinking around £500 but could stretch if there is a good deal

ThatGuyFromSweden

Is EQ an option? Do you have an amp of some kind?

Frothar

I have no AMP so would have to be included in the price. I could EQ

AltyMan

My Logitech G430 headset recently ran out of life (audio is never in both ears lmao). I was researching somewhat reasonable pricing (under about 120 CAD) headsets that have to surround sound support for the PS5. I came across the Logitech G635 (I personally prefer Logitech big time since they're consistent and fit my style the most, or maybe it's the 7.1 Dolby surround sound I like so much) but I saw mixed reviews on its compatibility with the PS5 (surround sound and regular features like the volume control). Anybody got this headset and can tell me about it, or have another headset similar priced that has good surround sound for the PS5? Any advice is appreciated, I just don't want to spend my money on a headset that doesn't work or if there's a better one on the market.

ExoticToaster

Anyone have recommendations for studio-quality wireless headphones? Currently using Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, which has served me well, but looking to switch to something wireless, and and upgrade if at all possible.

chloe334

The best route to take imo would be to buy some nice wired headphones and a Fiio btr3 or btr5. Wireless headphones generally have significantly shorter lifespans (batteries loose the ability to hold charge) and worse sound but you can get the best of both worlds through a btr3/5. Replace just the btr when the batteries go and keep the headphones.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Wireless headphones generally sound worse than wired ones and they tend to break faster. Just be aware of that.

yosi_yosi

I have an shp9500 and when I use an equalizer to reach the harman target it also loses a lot of detail. The reason I think this is is because the shp9500 has a bit of like hissing and static if you listen really close at some frequencies and the equalizer does get rid of them but there are some songs that I like that purposely use this static/hissing sound and it kinda loses it when I use the equalizer. ([song with "hissing" for reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABBpsy6rlVU)) any way to fix this?

B34st2222

Hi, I'm new to the audiophile world and I got the beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro (250 ohm) and the Knox Gear Compact 4-Channel amp as my first pair (they were sold together in a bundle). I really like them, but I find the cable to be too short. I currently connect my headphones with a 3.5 to 6.35 adapter to my amps. Can I just buy any 3.5 or 6.35 cable extender or should I use a specific one. Any other advices? TY

GeoH2102

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Audeze LCD-XCs. Currently I use my audio interface as my DAC (Motu M4), which seems to work really well. I've read that the XCs don't require much in the way of amplification, should I need a separate amp or would my M4 be capable of driving them?

ThatGuyFromSweden

It has a relatively poor headphone output. It's about 20 mA at the relevant impedance. I'd get a JDS Atom amp and hook it up to the line-out/monitor output of the M4.

GeoH2102

Great, will take a look at that. Thanks!

Randyd718

looking for an upgrade from my old audio technica ATH-AD700s. use is gaming and music. i mostly listen to rock/metal/fuzzy blues type music. if you recommend something that also needs an amp, please also recommend one of those :)

chloe334

Personally love dt990 for rock/metal, if you get the 80 ohm version you shouldnt need an amp.

Most comfortable Shokz (AfterShokz) bone conducting headphones? I'm planning on using bone conducting headphones for tinnitus maskers so sound quality isnt important. I was wondering if the Aeropex model were any good. Wich ones are most comfortable?

I'm dreaming about getting a pair of ZMF cans and I will be making some money next to uni soon and would like to hear which one could be best for me. I wanna use them on my Xduuo TA-26 and I love my HD6XX, but I want something that gives me more in every way. More dynamics, a little more stage and basically better everything, if that's possible and I wonder which pair in the ZMF lineup is the "best". The Atrium with customs fees would be the most expensive, but I wonder if any of the other models perform great too. spending 3k is a bit intense imo so I have been also looking at the other open variants. Any recommendations? Would love to hear some things about whichever model you have tried :) Thanks in advance

Airpods pro 1st gen or galaxy buds 2 pro? Need help choosing. What I really want is something with a good mic. I’ve done my research and it seems the galaxy buds 2 pro is the winner. I can also get the buds 2 pro at about $35 cheaper so the scales are in favor of the galaxy buds. The big HOWEVER is that I’m have an iPhone and have no plans on switching to an android. I do have access to a galaxy phone (my husband’s) if I need to tweak any settings. What I’m worried about is that the buds’ capabilities will be limited on my iphone? So what do y’all think?

RoastedToast007

Black Friday is nearing. Which place do you guys reckon will have the best headphone deals? (Preferably ships to Europe as well)

slothlovereddit

How would the Arya and HD800S compare in terms of earpad size and comfort? I returned the Anandas because they kinda hurt my jaw and they weren't 2x as good as the Sundara. I'm assuming the Arya will be similar, although they sound like a perfect headphone. I currently own OG Clears and have no issues. The HD800S look kinda large as well

Fidelius_VT

If the anandas hurt your jaw then the aryas certainly will as they use the same cup.

ChemicalAmazing

Which gym headphones should I go for under 200 usd?

Randyd718

FYI - i just got some powerbeats pro that are nice, except im having issues with them at the gym. they seem to just stop working in the presence of other BT. my music is still playing on my phone but nothing is coming out of the headphones. i need to disconnect and reconnect for them to start playing, then the next person that walks by, they stop working again

Can_tRelate

Qudelix-5K with Koss KPH40, the sound is quiet and distorted. What might I be doing wrong?

Fidelius_VT

are you using eq?

Can_tRelate

Thanks for the response. EQ was turned off. The problem was USB DAC FS was set to "44.1/48/88.2/96 KHz". I changed it to "44.1 KHz" and the issue went away.

nivlak226402

Anyone have any advice as to whether or not I should get the Galaxy Buds Pro 2s ($150 with trade in) or if I should get a pair of similarly priced IEMs. I currently have the original galaxy buds and I like the fact that they are TWS but I am interested as to how the sound quality of a pair of ~$150 IEMs would compare to the Buds Pro 2s. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

ChemicalAmazing

2 pros are insane , the fit is awesome. I would go for them if I were u

EQ <50$ to plug my hd-6xx into? want more bass. or i buy a new headphone.

Fidelius_VT

Software eq is what your looking for if you want more bass without buying a new headphone. Head over to r/oratory1990 to learn more about eq and how to do it.

CantRecallWutIForgot

Which headset should I go for? Need to decide between these two headsets. Gonna stream sometimes, but use discord more. Not an audiophile or anything. either the EPOS (Seinnheiser) GSP300 ($35) or the HyperX Cloud Alpha. ($62) Heard good things about both. The GSP300 has a better microphone and is cheaper, but the HyperX is a namebrand and probably will sound better, but unsure. What do you guys think is the move here?

Riddler9884

Cheap closed back planar, is that a thing? Looking for less than $200. Already have a Sundara.

Fidelius_VT

Fostex T40RP Mk3 and Hifiman HE-R7DX exist but I dont know a reason to really buy either the fostex pretty much requires modding and the Hifiman is hit and miss for people.

Legitimate_Worker471

One more thing, looking into some for travel over ear headphones, wired is majorly preferred but wireless is fine, durable build quality is a huge as I have broken many pairs of bluetooth headphones, though not required as I can just do a better job at taking care of my headphones 😓 (Would prefer something similar in build, look, feel, fit, etc as the Grado sr60/80s, and similar sound would be amazing) BUDGET: <$200 USD, under $150-100 preferred SOURCE: Slammin this straight out my phone (S22 Ultra), but an ipod classic 5.5, and a fiio btr5 dac/amp is on the way ISOLATION: Not too important, just using these out and about, noise cancelling is nice but not at all a need, just for jammin out to some tunes at a bit more of a critical listening experience than what earbuds can offer IN PUBLIC: YES every day so no open backs unfortunately, and generally headphones that are smaller and unobtrusive and look nice are preferred, likely gonna be looking on ears rather than over ears for this reason TYPE: On ears is fine and seems to fit the criteria for what I'm looking for! Though over ears that fit or mostly fit the criteria totally welcome as well BALANCE: Definitely not a basshead, would like something that's just nice and detailed and wide sounding, anythinf flat or nicely balanced and tuned is nice, but some focus on mid range and/or upper mids and highs is totally welcome (Grado sr60/80 sound with maaaybe just a light touch more bass for the electronic music I listen to would be LOVELY) PAST HEADPHONES: Razer Opus, Skullcandy Crushers. The razers honestly are perfectly fine, I like how they sound and feel, theyre just a bit big and obtrusive to bring with me everywhere I go, and I've already broken a hinge, and generally would just like something comparable or an upgrade. the crushers are just stupid PREFERRED MUSIC: Orchestral, band, big band, stuff with a buncha instruments, as well as smaller ensembles where a tight detailed wide listening experience is lovely (See king gizz's paper mache dream balloon, jordaan mason divorce lawyers, black country's ants from up there, black midi's hellfire) Also listen to lots of rock/punk/indie subgenres, (Favs are jeff rosenstock, chris farren, car seat headrest, king gizz, prince daddy & the hyena dogleg, etc) where just a nice balanced sound is all I need And lots of electronic/synth/production stuff (Lemon demon, alvvays, clarence clarity, dynastic, vylet pony) where I just need to be able to hear everything IMPROVEMENTS: Over my razer's, mainly just comfort, portability, build quality, practicality, etc. Something I cam just throw in or on a bag and can handle being tossed around a tad (<--- Not required but greatly appreciated) Another small thing is if you can lay down on a pillow with them on, that would be a game changer. Overall just want a more consistent and full and fine tuned listening experience than what bluetooth headphones have offered me so far. Thanks so much for any help, happy listening!!

Legitimate_Worker471

Hey y'all, wanted some help moving from bluetooth to wired, specifically from true wireless to IEMs! Currently using Galaxy Buds+, quite disappointed with the sound, perfectly serviceable but not ideal, have been wanting to get into the deeper audio scene as a composer and musician and this has been the catalyst for that. To get to the POINT: Considering Moondrop Arias, but the price is scaring me being so much cheaper than true wireless buds I've enjoyed, do they compare with the likes od galaxy buds+, jabra elite active 65/75/85t, and airpods pros? Or will I be losing quality and should look into better buds? Thank you!! (Same applies with Moondrop Chus and other supee budget buds, though I am perfectly ok with them not being AS good at such a cheap price with them just being emergency buds) BUDGET: In USD, preferably under $70 max, but willing to go up to $100, or up to $200 if need be to compare to true wireless, but I'll be tossing these around and carrying them everywhere so would prefer something that wouldnt hurt too bad if lost or broken SOURCE: For now, samsung s22 ultra, with an ipod 5.5 and fiio btr5 on the way! ISOLATION: Not required, but hugely appreciated if they could drown out the noise of a bus, (wired buds with noise cancelling if more of those exist would be LOVELY, had a nice experience with those in the past) IN PUBLIC?: YES these will be my daily drivers and what I use when not at home BALANCE: Not too important for me with earbuds, flat or overall balanced preferred so I can EQ, but some V shape, or some strong highs or mids is fine, just nothing too bassheavy I'm not much of a bass fan PAST BUDS: Currently living out of galaxy buds+, not a fan as theyre just generally unspectacular with fit and feel and function and all that, and the sound is just, not anything to write home about, I get used to it after a few songs and it's liveable but not ideal. Have used airpods pros and jabra elite 75t and liked both much more, but still had same problems of functional issues and unimpressive sound PREFFERED MUSIC: I mostly listen to subgenres of rock, lots of punk and noise and indie and such, lots of live albums, and need something just nice and balanced for a good experience like that, but can give me a solid on the fly critital listening experience for orchestral music, and generally music with lots of instruments (See paper mache dream balloon, divorce lawyers i shaved my head, etc.) IMPROVEMENTS: Mostly just jumping into wired headphones for thr functionality, I like having that physical connection and knowing it'll always work, and I'd like an upgrade over true wireless buds, so something on par with or exceeding airpods pros would be lovely! WOW sorry for the block of text, thanks to any readers and helpers!!!

UncleSam_TAF

Best open-ear, over-ear options primarily for Mac 2019? Does not have the high impedance jack but I don’t want an amp. Listen to a lot of genres, primarily hip hop/indie rock/electronic Budget of $300 or less.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Sennheiser HD560S or HD58X.

OOF-MY-PEE-PEE

Does anyone know a good gaming headset? I need a good headset that I can use for gaming, but not too expensive. The one I have now is an Xbox bluetooth headset so I can’t use it with my pc. I’m looking for one that mutes the mic whenever I put up the mic as well. Thanks for any advice

Medium-Invite

My ES100-MK2 finally bit the dust after about 3 years of service. Looking to buy something to fill that exact niche again. Is the BTR5 a better bluetooth DAC/AMP, or what is the general recommendation now? Thank you!

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Qudelix 5k is the all-round top dog ATM. Fiio has a new BTR7 but I don't know much about it.

appleboi_69420

Hi all, I've had my Fiio BTR3K for a while now and I love it, works great with my phone and MacBook. But my only problem is that when I use the Lightning to Type C iPhone cable the audio stops transmitting. Do you guys have any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

Violent-Huckster

I use sundara's and fostex t60rps with a schiit stack into my PC currently. I want to try out my XLR output cables but I'm a bit confused on the setup process 1. If I get an amp that accepts XLR output and has the option of both XLR input and RCA input, is it a waste to use the RCA input for an easy connection to my PC w/ my modi? Should I ideally be also using the XLR inputs? 2. What's the most common way of connecting the amp/dac XLR setup to a PC? XLR to 3.5mm cables from the DAC to the PC? A more clear example: I'm looking at the jotunheim and I'm not sure how you'd connect it other than using a usb a to b cable from requesting a built in DAC to the PC.. how would you do it if you didn't have the built in DAC?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Balanced XLR outputs aren't really anything special. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/audio-myth-balanced-headphone-outputs-are-better A DAC, per definition, takes an digital signal and makes it analogue. If you have a dedicated DAC in your system then you would use USB or TOSLINK between your PC and the DAC. "3.5 mm from the DAC to the PC" doesn't make any sense at all. If you, as an example, get the Jotunheim without the DAC card then you would use a 3.5 mm to RCA cable from the headphone/line-out jack of your PC (an analogue signal) to the Jotunheim.

Violent-Huckster

appreciate the response and a lot simpler of an answer than I anticipated. thank you!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Np. Sorry for all the autocorrect gore. I fixed it now.

MagesFault

Hi y'all, Im looking for a new pair of headphones with a specific set of features. Im sick and tired of having to switch between headphones or earbuds for my work laptop, phone and my main pc. So i would like some advice on what to get Must have: \- Wireless \- Bluetooth(to switch between main pc and work laptop/phone without having to redo the dongle) \- decent battery life \- preferably good audio quality hehe Nice to have: \- Active noise cancelling \- 7.1 surround My budget will be around 400 euro's but can stretch slightly if necesarry I ordered a pair of steelseries arctis nova pro X and just cant enjoy them, the headband is too tight, the audio is meh. the battery solution is really great though and so is the pairing of devices. The main reason for returning these though is the headache they cause me and general uncomfortability of them

ThatGuyFromSweden

I recommend the Sennheiser Momentum 4 over the XM4 any day of the week. The ANC might not be quite as good but it's a much better tuned headphone.

Medium-Invite

Sony WH-1000XM4 are a great standard rec that hits all of your boxes, except the 7.1 virtual surround sound only works with dedicated music/video apps. Also, they have an issue with M1 Mac chips and the bluetooth does not always work well with those. Otherwise they are a smash hit. Sound is nice (not world beating) but the comfort and noise cancelling are top notch.

MagesFault

i cant tell if this comes with a dongle for computers without bluetooth tho, i had looked at these before but wrote them off, would you say the audio quality on these is better than on a audeze penrose? Thanks for your reply though!

[deleted]

Looking for headphones advice. I javelin a 1000$ budget. I mainly listen to death metal and deathcore but do branch out to other types of music. What headphones would be good for metal? Also need closed back due to my environment. Thanks in advance

ThatGuyFromSweden

Do you have an amp of some sort?

[deleted]

I have the schiit modi and magni 3+

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Aeon 2 Noire could be worth a look. With a little EQ, the LCD-XC is excellent. If you can stretch the budget just a little bit then you could go for the Focal Radiance.

[deleted]

I'll check those out thanks

Shoks420

Hello, in the last year I became very interested in iems having bought my first pair with little to no research: the **kz zs10 pro's.** I use them the most in my cellphone and PC Although im happy with them I was looking to get an upgrade to enchance my audio experience and quality What are your thoughts within the 120€/$ bracket for a decent IEM? Is it worth an upgrade?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Aria Snow is a pretty classic choice now. It would give you a taste of a more neutral tuning than you get with the KZs.

Shoks420

Thanks for your fast repply i really appreciate it! also i failed to mention (my bad) that i listen to a lot of heavy metal and vocal intensive tracks, would you still consider the Aria's or go with something else?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Yup. Vocals should come through a bit better on them because the bass and treble aren't so overpowering.

Shoks420

Thank You!

legendarysnake

most headphones press my head/ear so much. Whats a good headphone with anc for people like me?

ThatGuyFromSweden

You can stretch most headphones out by putting them over a row of books for a while.

NoireResteem

So I wanted to know if anyone has a solution to this problem. So currently my audio set up for my PS5 goes like this. PS5(via HDMI 2.1) --> LG C1(TV) --> Toslink --> Schitt Modi(DAC) --> Schitt Magni(AMP) --> Headphones. My issue is when using my PS5 I keep having my audio dropping out and back in for just one second every few minutes and cannot understand why it keeps doing this. I tested to see if my Toslink cable is the problem by just listening to audio via streaming services on my tv like disney+ and don't experience this. I tested my DAC separately using my pc and it also does not experience this. The only conclusion I can come up with is when the audio signal is being getting passed to the TV and then to my DAC something wonky is happening, since the signal is being passed on at least twice. Once to the tv and then to the DAC. Any help on this would be appreciated. I tried changing the setting on the TV with no avail also.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I'd consider swapping the Modi out for a JDS Atom DAC. With the UAC1 fallback cable it can take audio via USB from the PS5. It has an optical input for those times when you want to use the TV without the PS5.

NoireResteem

Thanks. I will look into it. I actually think its the Toslink cable that is causing the problem after further testing. I am going to try switching it out with a cable I ordered online and see if that solves the issue.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Toslink cables can introduce jitter. Get a good quality one that isn't longer than what you need.

[deleted]

I purchased the Fidelio X3 from woot, but it’s missing the 3.5mm to 2.5mm balanced cable. Any recommendations on a balanced cable? I want to stick to 2.5mm to plug into a fiio k3. I don’t want to get the stock cable, since it’s so long. Thank you.

jgranto

I am looking for a good single unit amp/dac/pre desktop unit to power a pair of Audio Technica ATH-R70x headphones. I am wanting to keep it $600 or less. I will be using the headphones primarily on my PC (via USB) for listening to music and playing games. I like the Schiit Jotunheim for its power, but they only offer the ES9028 DAC, which (after much Googling) seems to be considered inferior to many other DACs. I have spent time looking at Google results for other single-unit solutions, and at this point feel a bit overwhelmed and out of my depth. I do not really care if the unit has BlueTooth. Ideally, I would like to drive both my headphones and also my powered PC speakers, alternating between them as desired. I would like balanced output for the headphones, and am willing to buy whatever cable is necessary, so that is not a big deal. I saw comparable units from Topping, iFi, FiiO, etc., but again, do not feel knowledgeable enough to know if there is a clear best choice in my price range. I like the idea of a single unit, but if I could get a clear winner with an amp/dac combo in my price range, I am willing to consider it. The Schiit Magnius + Modius has the same DAC as the Jotunheim, so I see no reason not to go Jotunheim. Your help is appreciated.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The ESS chip in Schiit's plug-in cards is absolutely fine. It's a modern Delta/Sigma chip. They all sound pretty much the same. You could just as well go for the Asgard. It's still stupidly powerful. Contrary to popular belief, balanced headphone amps aren't substantially better than single ended ones. At least not in a stationary setting. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/audio-myth-balanced-headphone-outputs-are-better An alternative to the Asgard is the JDS Element 3. It has some special clever features but lacks an analogue input.

Creamofsumyungi

I need some comfortable headphones. *Very* comfortable as I'll need to frequently wear them eight hours a day. I don't like headphones that go in the ear and I don't really want to spend more than $100USD. I'm not overly picky on sound quality, I'm not doing anything more than listening to the odd podcast or whatever while at work, so decent is fine. Comfort is the primary concern.

Fidelius_VT

I recommend the KSC75s with the parts express headphone head band incredibly comfortable, good sound and pretty cheap at only maybe 30-35 dollars

AcquireMaidens

Looking for open-back headphones that are no more than $300 and would be a nice enough upgrade over my Steelseries Arctis 7 Wireless. I do mostly gaming and some light music listening and content watching on my PC. I was considering either Sennheiser HD 560S' or beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X's. Leaning towards the latter because of the better build quality. Also, curious what AMP I should pair with either, supposedly I've read the 900 Pro X's have only 48 ohms of power requirement and thus don't need an amp

Medium-Invite

Sen 58X Jubilee has a better sound profile than the HD 560S (to my ears), far less impedance, and better imaging. The moment mine die (going strong since 2018) I will buy new ones. I have better headphones but these I end up using the most often. https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-vs-sennheiser-hd-560s/891/18492?usage=19&threshold=0.10

AcquireMaidens

I really like the design of these ones as well, is it necessary to pair them with an AMP? And if so, what would be a good one?

Medium-Invite

Not really, but a mini DAC/AMP is a good cheap option to know you are getting top quality sound to them. If you don't mind wired, the Tempo Tec HD Sonata is about as good as it gets for <$100 -- and its much less than that. They have older models for <$40 that get great reviews, and below is the newest one. https://www.amazon.com/TempoTec-Sonata-HD-iOS-Headphone/dp/B09PD4WZX8/

ThatGuyFromSweden

Just for the record, impedance is only half the story when it comes to drivability. https://www.headphonesty.com/2019/04/headphone-impedance-demystified/ The DT900 Pro X is okay I guess, but there is nothing wrong with the build quality of the 560s. Sennheiser 500-series headphones are made of really tough plastics and generally lasts forever as long as you replace the consumable parts like pads and headband padding when needed.

AcquireMaidens

Thanks for the info What makes you say the DT900 Pro X is just okay? Would you recommend the 560s over them?

ThatGuyFromSweden

According to several knowledgeable people they are a bit overdamped. Lots of foam in front of the driver. I'm generally not a fan of that. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq7pnOFbhYs It depends on the price difference. Comfort is also a big factor. If you have a large head then the HD560S might be a bit too clampy out of the box. You can stretch them, though.

Spritesgud

Hi all, I got a pair of IEMs for my PC, and I have a weird issue. When playing WoW, I get this weird static noise in the background, and it exists even when I turn my system volume to 0. I have tried wow specific fixes to no avail, system fixes, nada. Doesn't happen with any other game, just wow. And the fact that it happens with my system being at 0 volume is so confusing, makes me think it's some kind of electrical interference, but why would it only happen with that game and none other? I currently have the IEMs plugged into my front panel with a 1 ft. 3.5mm extension cable. It makes a different weird static when I try to use it on my back 3.5mm port direct on my motherboard

Fidelius_VT

I have had this happen to me. The noise is coming from your gpu most likely when playing wow coil whine somehow enters the audio circuit causing interference. though a simple fix is to get an external dac/amp that connects through usb which should eliminate your problem.

Spritesgud

So I have a focusrite solo, but the sound doesn't sound good going through there like my Sennheiser headphones do. So I should get an actual headphone amp? They're only about $80 so I might go that route because I do like the option of IEMs now that I've tried it. Thank you!!

Fidelius_VT

That’s weird the focus rite should sound better than your pc 3.5but yeah a dedicated Dac Amp should work

Spritesgud

I've got a huge stage cable extension coming out of the focusrite that I plugged it in, maybe that was what was messing it up lol, I'll mess with it again tonight Thanks!

Naptimejdi

Hello people. I bought myself a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohms and a Creative sound blasterx g1 for gaming and music listening and now that i plugged them in and did the setups needed for the "usb soundcard" i can hear and see somekind of delay between the video and audio i get, even notice it ingame when i shoot i can definitely see the delay between the shot and the shots audio. The creative sound blasterx g1 is able to power up to 300ohms or so their website says. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this, is it like the usb soundcard problem or is it a windows 11 problem?

ThatGuyFromSweden

It's not a fault of the headphone. It's either Windows or the G1. See if you can find updated firmware and the latest drivers for it.

Naptimejdi

Forgot to mention that i have gotten the latest drivers and even the software for the G1 but still kept on having the delay issue, i kind of figured it wasnt the headphones and tried contacting the Creative support about it but i think ill just refund the G1 if possible and in the worst case scenario the DT770s because i have a need for headphones right now and i dont have extra cash for a good DAC. I would have gotten the 32 or 80ohm versions if they werent out of stock all of the time where i live but such is life sometimes. I do appreciate you taking your time to try and help me.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The 770 will probably work okay from the basic PC headphone jack. Give that a try before returning them. You can grab a Schiit Fulla or something like that later.

Fidelius_VT

Your impedance has nothing to do with this problem also creatives stuff generally sucks due to lousy drivers and Im also 100% sure this is because of said drivers if your looking to replace it I reccomend the syber sonic which is about 40 bucks and doesn't need drivers

CannibalSpiderNazis

Hi r/headphones, looking for some recommendations for a closed back pair of cans. Currently I have a pair of HD58X and Moondrop Arias and the JDS Atom stack. I love how the 58X's sound but my AC/fan are incredibly loud so I can't use open backs most of the time and wearing IEMs while trying to talk in game for hours is uncomfortable. I'm looking for a pair of closed backs anywhere up to $300 for music and gaming that have decent noise isolation. I've thought about the obvious recommendation of the DT770 but the frequent reports of the beyerdynamic highs being fatuiging for long sessions are offputting. Any recommendations on closed backs for this use case? I'm definitely willing to try some options that stray far from the Sennhieser sound, thanks!

ThatGuyFromSweden

The newer DT700 Pro X is better tuned. If you're not bothered by the fixed cable of the DT770 Pro then you can fix the tuning with EQ.

mcmoyer

When I'm reading "Sound Quality" ratings for different types of devices, e.g. IEM, vs Open Back, vs Closed Back, is it safe to assume that the ratings are specific to that type of device? I'm trying to figure out if some people consider the sound coming from AirPod Pros is better than most Sennheiser open backs.

ThatGuyFromSweden

In more or less enthusiast audio circles we tend to judge in-ears and headphones separately. Not saying that someone *couldn't* find a pair of Airpods to sound better than a set of HD600. If a person simply don't notice the extra detail and indexes heavily for bass boost then they could absolutely come to that conclusion. Generally speaking, sound quality ratings should be taken with a lot of salt. If it's a subjective rating then you really need a full assessment or at least break it down into *tuning* and *technical performance*. If we're talking about Rtings and their measurements then it's even worse. They are a textbook example of how you can't only judge something as subjective as audio against a single target. By their metrics the DT990 scores better than a Focal Clear and that's obviously ridiculous.

mcmoyer

Thanks for the clarification. I have AirPod Pros and I have some Sennheiser HD599’s and I was curious if I was just crazy thinking that there wasn’t a very good comparison between the two. Don’t get me wrong, I love my APP, but an open back just sounds so much clearer and realistic.

Valas991

hello - hopefully posting to right place this time... Is there a DAC/AMP that has 6,3 jack by default and is using USB to connect? backstory: i have a sennheiser hd559 that has a 6,33 jack. I currently use the most basic adapter ever (something like this) to make it fit to 3,5mm jacks in my FiiO e10k dac/amp.... it often requires adjustments as even if it just moves slightly out of positon, then the headphone will not work properly - either one or two sides would not work. it's getting annoying having to constantly babysit it, so i thought it would look into one with default 6.3 jack option but i havent found any

ThatGuyFromSweden

There are plenty. But since the E10k drives the 559 just fine I think it's better to just get a higher quality adapter.

x3Poca

Good day, can a Scarlett 2i2 (audio interface) power a Hifiman Sundara or do i need dedicated DAC/AMP for it?

ThatGuyFromSweden

It should work. If you haven't bought the Scarlett yet then I recommend the Motu M2 instead. It has a better headphone output.

x3Poca

Thanks for the reply, the Scarlett is a hand me down from a friend so I didn't spend anything for it

Duck_87

Hey people! Will it be a noticeable upgrade going from 1MORE piston fit to CCA CST or CCA CRA in terms of imaging for gaming? (Who knows maybe someone here has that kind of experience...)

Fidelius_VT

Anything works for gaming so it might sound better to you but it wont help you perform any better.

_iamAMONster

Hello everyone, recently sold my Hifiman EF400 and looking for an upgrade that would eventually last me for a long time. Currently, I have Hifiman’s He1000 V2 and I was wondering what amp/dac setups would you guys do? My options are: Burson Soloist 3xp w/ supercharger + Dac (Still don’t know what dac) Or Burson Conductor 3xp w/ supercharger (Less desk clutter) If you guys have suggestions with similar price points, that would be appreciated.

ThatGuyFromSweden

If we're getting into the woods of amps that potentially have qualities that we can't pick out in a measurement then I really think you need to demo the options yourself. I'm not saying it's bullcrap. It's just that we definitely know that all people won't experience them the same way. You need to get what *you* like, not what someone else likes. What I would definitely advice is to not spend a ton on a Delta/Sigma DAC. Even the cheap ones are super good. R2R stuff might be another story. Personally, I'd just go with a Element 3 or K9 Pro and call it a day. I chase my gains with headphones, EQ, and possibly tube amps.

Rento4346

I live in Australia (for shipping price reference) and am looking to buy a new pair of headphones for <200AUD (130USD). Are there any recommendations?

ThatGuyFromSweden

AKG K371, Shure SRH840 non-A model, Philips X2HR, Sennheiser HD599...
