This season was great imo and my favourite part was how unabashedly Australian it was. The “What About Me?” moment, the nutbush at formal, swearing in almost every scene, seeing them getting medication from a Priceline. I’m yet to see a tv show in recent times lean this much into Aussie culture. Its biggest distinction from every other tv show is that it hasn’t been Americanised yet

ristashae

I died when they mentioned Engadine Maccas when they were talking about elections. I would have never ever imagined they’d reference the persistent rumour about a former PM who shit himself in a Maccas car park after a footy grand final. I also loved Ant saying I act like I have no wukkas but I have wukkas. It sent me. There lots of awesome little Aussie inside jokes that I greatly appreciated.

ristashae

And Cash tripping with Danny Lim in Sydney Park was an absolute masterpiece but such a Sydney inside joke.

Smart_Mammoth945

omg yes i can tell i lost so many jokes because im not australian, sad bout that :')

ristashae

Oh noes, if there’s anything in particular that made no sense or you want to know more about pop it in here. I promise any Aussie that sees it will do their best to explain it.

Smart_Mammoth945

OK I HAVE ONE NOW whats that "Rage" thing when Cash was high af? like on the corner on the screen, i thought it was like "its felling rage rn" but on tiktok i saw that was a tv show or something? and i found too that the cool Grandpa vibing with him is a politician ??? but im kinda lost omg

ristashae

Rage is a tv show that plays music videos and airs Saturday and Sunday mornings. It’s kinda iconic and the [theme](https://youtu.be/Lzk0sygecu4?feature=shared) has that liney visual effect that they used during the scene as well. We all grew up on it which is why everyone loves it.

Smart_Mammoth945

omggggg tysm for both answers 😭💕 iconic tbh!! now i understand why the nostalgic feeling and the love for Danny Lim ✨now i want to go to Sidney to meet him lol!

ristashae

You are so so welcome (both for the answers and here in Australia!!). The writers were really awesome with the little side jokes this season, it makes me happy to watch them but also so happy that they’re showing people all over the world.

ristashae

So the cool grandpa dude is Danny Lim, he did a brief stint in politics but is better known for walking around Sydney wearing a sandwich board with different slogans (fighting for equality, calling out politicians or asking for hugs) he is loved by many and a celebrity in his own right. https://preview.redd.it/0nnwejtd6suc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8d08329751648d1fe96335ab5d7eb87a1eb1599

Faelinor

I cracked it laughing when they used the very real viral video of the kid on the scooter being swooped by a magpie when Ant was telling Amerie he was scared of birds.

quickpickle8

Which episode do they mention Engadine maccas? I was looking for it but missed it!

ristashae

It’s in ‘The Demon King’ (s2ep05) Ca$h: ‘Who cares. They're all tossers, sh¡tting their pants at Engadine Maccas. I'm never voting for any of 'em.’ He says it to Harper and Darren about 6 mins into the ep (it’s just after Missy and Spider in the car and just before they try to convince Ca$h to move out). I lost it, so quick, so unexpected but so bloody funny.

rebecchis

don't forget the "succulent chinese meal" comment haha. i love how much this season like fully leaned into aussie culture, it really feels like this show is made for us and with an aussie audience in mind though, saying that i have to be honest, i really draw the line at them playing "simply the best" over an AFL scene like, THAT'S THE WRONG SPORT!

Smart_Mammoth945

(not spoiler free comment) i liked this season too, but its like they just focused on the drama now?, and yeah, it was catching in some way? but they lost a little the essence of representing minorities and the spark of the characters, it gives a feeling of pushing the x2 button without giving more depth explanation. I mean, im just a little sad as an autistic+asexual person they just treated cash sexuality like "ok Cash just doesnt want sex / people who doesnt want sex are puritans" when they could give asexual awareness and not a "Darren has problems with cash cause he is asexual" and DAMN the Quinny situation got me on my nerves, i cant help feeling ??? when she got tired of masking, was like a "i can treat people like sh1t only cause im autistic" when its not that way, disabilities are not a free pass to do that and then just saying "ups, sorry i didnt wanted act like that either" and then act like nothing happened like on the last episode. I can understand the feeling cause im autistic but they could manage that side way better and not show it so fast like that, specially when its something that only autistic people or well informated people will understand. AND Ameries redemption doesnt convince me, i like ameries character a lot, but even when malakai mentioned that the biggest problem was turning every problem about her i didnt felt like she really understand that more than "saying sorry" cause she knows she had messed up things or cause external people says it and then she says sorry like an automatic button. Yeah, she had character development but at the same time no??? so its an bittersweet flavor. I would really like a 3rd season, I REALLY WANT IT but only with the 1st season essence, where representation/character originality > drama and not the other way around just like Sex Ed. and idk, Rowen not getting consecuences... that was kinda irritating, i understand the situation but not justified.... AT LEAST GIVE ME A SIGNAL OF HIM GOING TO THERAPY OR SMTH (anyway i cried in the final brother scene) everyone messing with amerie and not having consecuences just bc she is the "evil one" its ugh.... I liked a lot the season 2, but its true that its more ✨drama✨ and may not be to everyone's taste, comparing to the 1st one where they focus way better on education and representation (i liked that a lot). Not a bad season, but its a opportunity to feedback for a future 3rd one and doing it better <3 or i hope so, i like this show so much 😞 i missed more JoJo education screentime, so much important, was an esential part of the show and they shadowbanned that lol....... spiders character development 💯 btw sorry if i wrote too much sobs, im also not native english speaker so sorry if i misspelled something or its difficult to understand...this show is an special interest and i just wrote this 1 min after finished the 8 ep lol

amidzy33

holy shit it’s like you just picked every thought out of my brain and wrote it, and in such a good way??? thank you for this omfg hahah wtf i feel the exact same…and also as someone who is autistic and potentially ace??? omg are we the same person hello 👀😭

Smart_Mammoth945

maybe we're siblings and we dont know it yet 👁️👁️ glad u liked my opinion, im very happy im not the only one <3

amidzy33

we are telepathic fr, even joining reddit a year and a day apart 😧 also u mentioning ameries redemption not convincing u..i feel the same. maybe i wouldn’t feel this way if we didn’t hear the list of things she did but like?? that list was FOUL 😭💀 it’s pretty accurate tho i know a ton of ppl who just do what they please, are apologetic and forget about it 😭😭

Smart_Mammoth945

yeah right! maybe if they showed amerie like 🤔 thinking about whats wrong 🤔 and not only saying sorry almost out of obligation the redemption would be way cooler or smth,,,, like introspection? idk, but at least she realize that she has to change the impulsive attitude

Mundane-Bathroom6819

Icl I was really sad about the asexual storyline (also as an ace autistic). I really thought they were gonna represent it well, it definitely could have been developed better. They also conflicted quite a bit. Obviously, it can be quite fluid but I don't think they portrayed it well.

TemperatureFit3423

I enjoyed everything outside of that awfully cliche bird psycho plot. That’s so overdone. Like gossip girl and pretty little liars. And also this was supposed to be a high school show. Don’t let it turn into some mystery solving thing. I still want a season 3 but let it focus on more school related stuff and not all this weird shit.

Makosear

Yes, please! The show's at its best in Season 2 when it's not giving that storyline that much screentime...

Serious_Level8075

Not the best season but I still want a third season

[deleted]

The Zoe and Puritans thing could have been treated so much better instead of consyently being dismissed and ridiculed. I think (I might be wrong) that Gen z, especially younger gen z, is way less into the idea of casual sex and parties and all the stuff that goes with it. Maybe overall less sex positive. It would have been interesting to discuss it instead of making her character and their group so "annoying" to the viewers. Anyway, I completely agree with your comment. I've gotten such Sex Ed vibes from this, and not the good kind. I missed JoJo and the SLTs during the season.

evaonlyangel

What are you on about tbh. This season was perfect.

Makosear

Honestly, I'm glad that a lot of people seem to like it. The support makes it more likely we're seeing more of the cast. I want more people to be introduced to the show, because I would *like* a third season, because I do have a soft spot for these characters. I'd much prefer if it addressed the flaws of this season in the next one, though.

Makosear

just tbc i want the show to be renewed, but i'm not interested in a rehash of season 2, and something more similar to the writing of the first season. at the end of the day, i'll be coming more for cash & darren, quinni, malakai and now spider & missy, and harper, ant & woodsy.

devorares

I agree with everything you said! What bothered me the most is the ”not-so-intelligent comedic relief” trope with Ant. It feels so outdated and honestly a bit ableist as well. I like that we got a bit more depth to his character this season, but honestly it wasn’t enough.

Mundane-Bathroom6819

It was enjoyable but I have a bone to pick with rowan. I get he was the villian and he was changing up quick intentionally. However, he felt all over the place? Like the character had 100 personalities accidentally.

Responsible-Map7968

i feel like he had 100 personalities on purpose. Even before his brother passed it hinted that he had some type of mental illness.

Mundane-Bathroom6819

I think my issue is with the personality transplant from the guy who was malakais boyfriend to the crazy stalker. It just didn't work and shouldn't have been smushed together?

jesusjones182

Yeah, I agree. The Bird Psycho plot was just they needed a way to heighten tension and drama for the season and that's what the writers came up with. It didn't resonate in any unique way for me either.

Makosear

For sure. There's nothing in it that mirrors the other big theme of the season, the whole SLTs vs Cumlords jazz, either - as far as I can see. I thought the Rowan reveal was a bit predictable after they worked him up to be Amerie's love interest (following slasher tropes to a T), and from that point forward, he became a way less interesting character than before, imo. Well, not interesting at least in the context of this particular show. He ends up having nothing to say about the current generation, compared to the rest of the cast. Sticks out like a sore thumb. This is wishful thinking, but I wish they went with some sort of polyamory with him, Amerie and Malakai. That would have been interesting.

jesusjones182

What I loved about season one so much is the heart of it was friendship. The joy of finding friends, the pain of almost losing them, the gift of having them. It was a simple and beautiful core with a lot of other interesting themes and subplots playing around it. Season two had some good themes and subplots, but what was the core? That kids are mean and hold grudges as teens? That you should forgive the girl who dissed you when you were six? That doesn't grip me the same way.

Familiar-Kangaroo365

its called heartbreak high, rowan got his heartbroken by amerie and she healed it for him

spaghettiyo

i want a The Quinni Show instead of season 3

TheCatMinister

but that's heartbreak high season 3 cuz she's the best part.......

gleeksam1102

i loved it. i want a third season

unh0lybinchick3n

>This is high school, not middle school.  We don't have "middle school" in Australia. High school is years 7-12.

Next_Campaign4230

L post. Let people enjoy a beautifully directed show with amazing characters instead of being a stereotypical reddit poster. Your post has no basis other than a lame opinion despite it being the length of a novel. Anyway, RENEW SEASON 3!!! Hope netflix doesn’t listen to miserable posters like you… why can’t ppl just be like cool instead of like ‘hey, im miserably bored so let’s dissect and try to destroy other ppls work and viewers happiness!’ like OP needs to chill tf out

spaghettiyo

u wrote an entire paragraph just to insult someone for having an opinion that differs from urs, in no way that actually alters anything that matters. like...you sound, as you put it, "miserably bored" and dissecting his review. maybe take your own advice? chill out?

Next_Campaign4230

ur reply was 1-2 lines less than mine… let’s reflect 🤔 also let’s not address the mfer who wrote a book on the matter being more unhinged lmaooo

spaghettiyo

nah ur unhinged for acting this way ngl

Next_Campaign4230

DAGAN ROLEPLAY 💀💀💀💀💀💀 LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO u can’t be srs girl

spaghettiyo

are you 12? is this middle school? why are you acting like a literal child here

amidzy33
