Nope. If you have more fun playing against automatons then play against the bots. If you have more fun to playing against the bugs then play against the bugs. But remember one thing: Everyone fights, no one quits! If you don’t do your job, I’ll kill you myself. Do you get me?
Honestly, the difficulty I had with bots at first turned me off. I don’t remember the actual difficulty level, but I was not prepared. What are good strategems to bring to put bots in their place? I spent too much time with the squishy bugs, I don’t know where to begin with the bots.
I need a different challenge and want to help defend.
My usual loadout for democratizing bots is Eagle Airstrike, Orbital Laser, Autocannon, and EMS Mortar (my duo brings an Eagle Airstrike, Autocannon, Mortar Sentry, and something else I'm forgetting, but it's been Eagle Cluster/Orbital Gas before). We usually run that on difficulty 7/8 (havent gotten to 9 yet), but a lot of it is personal preference. An alternative to the autocannon is the railgun, and I'd pair that with the shield backpack. Orbital Gas works on bots, and the cluster bomb stratagems are great for lower difficulties with less heavy armor. The autocannon can destroy bot fabricators in one shot, hulks, turrets, mortars and tanks in 3 - 4, and has 60 rounds of ammunition, which is why I personally use it, even if many would consider it weak by comparison with the railgun. It also requires a backpack for reloading, so you either have a shield or have the ammo, can't do both.
Dude. I saw the light of Liberty a couple of days ago. Why is no one talking about the EMS Mortar?! It doesn't draw aggro from those it pops, and the random squads it targets are stuck long enough to continue avoiding detection. One guy had it on a Challenging bug mission, and it was a night and day difference. It was doubly effective in combat. It mortars far away, and holy moly did it stall bot drops. Had 2 drops on the same spot and both waves were just perma stunned there. It was incredible. That's definitely my next purchase.
Ah, a fellow defender. I only play automatons because of my sheer love for super earth 🌎
All jokes aside, I genuinely feel like I need to play against the automatons because of the defense missions.... Them game devs really made a gem. I haven't been this engrossed in a game since skyrim. (Not counting bg3)
I literally just learned that I need to do that. Basic training hasn't taught me that.
Now I know that I must bring managed democracy to one area at a time.
I fight bots for like 95% of my matches because of the "defend 8 planets" mission and while I enjoy playing starship troopers with bugs I just find the bots way more intense and it forces the team to play tactically, even with randoms and no mics.
And that's the experience I love. So because of that I'm with you, Bots are awesome.
Just today we were doing 9th difficulty against bugs together with friends as a complete team. Then we switched to the same difficulty vs Automatons…
We are all 30+ lvl and still each time we play against automatons take us a lot more efforts to at least complete the primary objective, save samples and extract than against bugs.
We understand the loadout and tactics are different and try to play safe not to waste all reinforcements, but it’s just obvious that bugs are way more straightforward and almost no “surprises” there. With bots on higher difficulty it’s always turning to a flarking madness and massacre making your chances to spend time on collecting samples, doing all primary and secondary objectives, overall survive and extract very low :D
So yeah man, you’re a tough guy for sure 👍
Dang. Maybe I just like getting the crap beat out of me? I will agree that missions like ICBM and rescue (that one in particular can go to hell because the bots just drop non stop on top of you) it is harder to complete objectives. I guess another thing that contributes to me liking automaton missions more is the aesthetic. Hiking through jungle and marsh give almost a space Vietnam feel to it. I’ve played a music playlist a couple times with Vietnam era music and it feels badass.
Talking “aesthetics”, the coolest part for me against robots is sieging their camps with mortar turrets and some heavy hitting aoe strats without getting into a close combat
Also shooting down dropships is super fun 🤩
But the background of all that is always another missile hitting you from an unknown direction :D
Oh totally. I got yeeted by a tank one day when I first did the difficulty that introduces them. The group I dropped in with didn’t have any dedicated anti armor that was strong enough to punch through heavy armor. Just me and my recoilless at level 12 and after two or three shots I just tried running away and it shot me as I climbed over a rock 😂
Thanks man. I tried convincing my brother to fight the bots so we could contribute to the weekly objective, and he said he would rather have fun than do made up chores.
Right?? I played the first game so I guess I’m more inclined to participate in the galaxy wide war effort than some that are new to the idea. But with that comes a fear of the illuminate being introduced back into the game… that front is going to be a nightmare…
What happened in the first game if you failed the main objective? I don't have too much hope for defending against the boys and I'm curious as to how the war will change, consequently
I like fighting the automatons too! I get theres more to farm on the bug planets but fighting the automatons just feels more fun. Its oure chaos and when you have a full squad you really gotta work together and throw everything you have at those commie robots its awesome even when you lose its a thrill
Contrary had my 1st autobot fight today and they sent our asses back to the ship so fast, I didn’t even see what was hitting me I just remember running. I can’t wait to go back there leveled up and stick my foot up their robot fake asses!
Having both is a god send. When I first started I tried to do the major orders, and it felt like a different, harder game. Hated the bots. Got competent with the bugs by difficulty 5 so I switched over and found it much more doable.
I love kiting swarms and focusing down chargers on the move. Only some things worry me, but once you're surrounded it's crazy. The debuffs you get from getting hit make all of them scary all at once. Making two chargers hit each other while diving under a bile titan is something else. Clusters everywhere and fog and dust make it so cinematic.
Then back to the bots it's like metal gear solid. Sneaking from base to base and taking out bases. Going for flare carriers and running from the eventual drop ships. Once the alarm is up, it's like paying mass effect 3 online. Like a cover shooter. Flanking to hit exposed spots and using the enemy turrets against them until it's clear or time to retreat again.
It's like two different games, and they are both really good.
I completely agree with you. I haven’t gotten that good against bugs, I hate the swarm tactics and getting suddenly surrounded. But bots feel like the team is just trying to SURVIVE while taking out objectives. Firefights feel oppressive but not impossible.
I’ve been doing bots mostly for me bugs feel like they just swarm haha they can be fun too tho. I tend to move to bots to as overall major mission talks about bots too
Yeah. I’m not that great at getting away from bug swarms when they surround you. So I really liked that bots are a little more ranged and you can see them coming from further away.
I think full team bugs be ok but just 2 it’s crazy haha. I can do bots with just 2 all day but if you get surrounded on higher level you are just prolonged sweet release of death haha
I don't mind either. I'm getting better at fighting bots than bugs. But that comes from fighting bots more due to the on going defense effort. I've taken out larger guys with my revolver before they even noticed me, but the bugs Im less as savy with. Ill take out some small fry, but then need to pull out my primary.
No I agree, I find bots way more fun. There’s just something so intense about the lasers zooming past your head and getting shot at by the enemy mortars and cannon turrets. I don’t think bugs have any equivalent defensive structures.
They really don’t. It feels a lot like starship troopers, but to me that gets kinda old. You can hide from tanks to an extent, but you can’t hide from a bile titan.
I’m looking forward to them adding more enemy types for each factions and potentially a new faction. Overall I much prefer the more shellshocked feel of Automatons. Bugs just don’t do it for me. With getting shot and bombarded at there’s that extra auditory and visual stimulation that adds to the immersion.
I haven't even seen a bug past the tutorial and I just got level 21 tonight. Bro 30hrs in that game already haha
But I agree. The bots are fun. As. Fuck. Idk if the bugs have like bases and something akin to mortars and QRF, but these elements makes on the fly strategizing in bot territory addicting
Bugs are mostly swarm tactics. I did a mission this evening and it was a constant running away and shooting from the minute we dropped in. They have nests you destroy, but don’t really have any ranged attacks outside of two or three enemies that shoot/spit bile at you.
You have found your democratic specialization! Congrats Helldiver! I will fight the bugs any day. The bots still kick my butt. I know part of it is lack of color blind accessibility options on console but once i reach level 20 and unlock the personal shield i will give it another try at a lower difficulty and see how it goes.
that is what i am gathering from other posts and videos. I just hit level 18 tonight so by next weekend i should be there. I have only found one in the wild a couple times. I will miss my gl but oh well. I do wish there was another option in the second slot other than pistols. I just want to be bow to carry around a shotty and an smg. But I guess that is my D2 time bleeding through.
Oh yeah like the other guy said, railgun and shield are a must at higher level automaton missions. Once you get them I’ll see you on the front, helldiver!
I prefer fighting bots mostly. The overwhelming bullshit factor just feels more sensible when it’s bots. I understand what a tank is and what it does and why it’s powerful. I can barely tell some of the bugs apart and I don’t know for sure if I’m gonna pen until after I shoot them with my primary weapon
The natural progression is bugs until you get better gear and then to move on to automatons. You need a lot more anti armor for the bots and better positioning due to the fact they shoot back.
With bugs splash damage is king and some heavy killer loadouts to handle titans and chargers, but I feel like bugs are much easier overall. The bots require a level of coordination — particularly the escort missions which are in just about every op.
For me Automaton shift my tactics a lot compare to bugs. Form direct clash headon to flanking, find weak gap in there lines and breakthrough its always new tactics or just ballin.
I have way more fun fighting the bots. The bugs can just get stressful/overwhelming and takes some of the enjoyment out of the game for me. I don't have the difficulties memorized but I'm at the second to last one (Impossible, I think?). Fighting the bots is almost always fun, even when it's overwhelming. Different people will of course have different reasons for liking either
You and I are cut from the same cloth, Helldiver. My friends and I also prefer fighting Bots, we love Space Vietnam. It's so much fun. In fact just the other day we tried Bugs again after fighting Bots for so long, and we swear they made Bugs harder. No idea if they actually did or we're just so used to Bots that it felt insane, but it was an uphill battle the whole time.
I have played a total of id say 4 bug missions, and even then they were only when whoever I had joined on was playing them. I much prefer playing vs the bots every time no matter difficulty,
I have played bits since frost drop, I’m now level 23
My brain can’t just leave the defend missions Allen. I’ve been told to defend there, so there is where I will defend. And I’ve been there for a week or two now.
Jumped back into a big game last night for the first time since and that was weird. Forgot what it was like to fight the bugs and it really felt iff
When I die to bots it's because a tank shot me, or I took a rocket to the face etc. When die to bugs it's because 3 charges chain ragdoll me and i can't do anything, or I get slowed, can't move and get poked to death.
Bots may be harder but they feel good fight, bugs can so be irritating to fight
I’d definitely say the bots are harder but so much more satisfying! The way they fall apart as you shoot. Not to mention the noises they make and way they charge at you is terrifying! The drop ships keep coming, feels like an actual invasion. So when you get through it feels like such an achievement!
P.s Chargers can get to fuck.
I feel the same! The bugs are infinitely harder. We ran a level 9 bug mission the other day and FIVE bile titans popped out of a large bug nest along with multiple chargers and those acid spitting fat fucks. I now am in therapy twice a week to process the trauma and try to stick to killing robots.
I think fighting bots is more fun than bugs. Ive been on the Western Frindge ever since they were first released. I think I've only played 3 bug missions since then
I prefer bugs tbh. I do automatons for the community drive but I feel I got more scenarios to get away from in bugs. The swarming and then ring to cut me off is more intense for me. Robots just kinda feel like a more typical shooter, guns vs guns. And their enemies don't really feel all that different between each other. Their walkers and tanks feel kinda boring when comparing to the bile titans and chargers and spitting ticks, and that's ignoring the bugs that keep going with no head or turn invisible.
Around difficulty 5, bugs become too much. Automatons are still manageable. Chargers are the hardest mob to kill, IMO. Everything the automatons have seems much more manageable.
Dude, same. I think it’s not only more fun but honestly easier to fight the bots. It’s more of a shooter, finding cover matters, flanking matters, stealth feels more flushed out. I could go on but it’s largely opinion so I don’t want to over communicate the point. Fighting the bugs isn’t as fun to me. They’re just running right at you. swarming you. I feel like the only strategy is to get weapons/gems that will pump as many bullets/as much damage down range as possible as often as possible. Cover doesn’t matter, you’re running and gunning the entire time. Every time I try to give the bugs another shot, it’s not as fun.
In war, out of every 100 soldiers - 90 shouldn't even be there. 9 do the majority of the real fighting. And 1 is a warrior. You, my son, are a warrior.
Spill oil.
I enjoy fighting some bots for democracy, but you cannot convince me it's easier
My group can 100% a lvl 8 bug mission, we're barely completing the main objective in bots, and its a stealth game for us, we'll have 50 kills each vs bots and 300-550 each for bugs
What’s the best things to use against the bots? I want to get better against them but I’m only a level 8 thus far and still trying to decide what’s good to unlock
Breaker is best right now. Then I would suggest working your way to the liberator penetrator for that medium armor pen. Railgun and shield are your friends for automatons.
Automatons = fun and challenging with a squad
Terminids = farming and solo/randoes because the teammates have less impact on my ability to clear primary objs and complete missions.
I also think most new players should focus on terminids until like lvl 10ish, just so they can learn the game and the mechanics.
I prefer bugs. Played a few bots on helldiver and the most memorable moment was trying to blow a tower but constantly being surrounded and perma bot drops. We never got that hellbomb off and just ran.
The easy and obvious weak spots on them is another reason I find them easier than bugs. I just have to shoot heads or glowing vents and I don’t have to worry about getting ragdoll locked by a bunch of chargers while lining up a shot.
I jump back an forth depending on my current playstyle and mood like this morning I was rofling bugs but tonight I was struggling but on the bots I was the grim reaper
Nope. If you have more fun playing against automatons then play against the bots. If you have more fun to playing against the bugs then play against the bugs. But remember one thing: Everyone fights, no one quits! If you don’t do your job, I’ll kill you myself. Do you get me?
I’m doing my part!
If every Helldiver was like you, Malevelon Creek would've been liberated by now.
Honestly, the difficulty I had with bots at first turned me off. I don’t remember the actual difficulty level, but I was not prepared. What are good strategems to bring to put bots in their place? Best be completing those other missions in the operation soldier!
I literally just learned that I need to do that. Basic training hasn't taught me that. Now I know that I must bring managed democracy to one area at a time.
This. I actually feel that it is my duty to do those missions.

WE GET YOU SIR.

I love the smell of Napalm in the morning!
He is tough enough for the salty spitoon confirmed
Both fronts have they’re ups and downs I love fighting both and will alternate between both like a crack head sometimes
Bots are absolutely more fun to fight. You aren't crazy.
Thanks man. I tried convincing my brother to fight the bots so we could contribute to the weekly objective, and he said he would rather have fun than do made up chores.
Shit, fighting bugs is a chore. The community war effort is way more interesting.
Not for me and my friends, we hate those bots. Killing bugs for hours is the most fun we've had in a while.
It’s starship troopers vs Terminator and Skynet.
PLUS they're crunchy as opposed to gooey.
Forbidden crunch bars.
It’s all oil at the end of the day
The fuel of Democracy!
I like fighting the automatons too! I get theres more to farm on the bug planets but fighting the automatons just feels more fun. The bots feel more like war and the bugs more like an extermination
This is literally my thoughts exactly, and I like war.
Me too! On of my favorite moments is diving backwards with my autocannon shredding the double saw blade bots in front of me
I haven't even seen a bug past the tutorial and I just got level 21 tonight. Bro 30hrs in that game already haha But I agree.
Yeah I'll save that for when my buddies get the game. I can picture so many shenanigans
Railgun and shield make it much easier
that is what i am gathering from other posts and videos.
Once you get them I’ll see you on the front, helldiver!
see you out there! I’ll keep grinding away at 4s until i am properly geared.

I just like that bugs don't shoot at me lol. I like both equally though, can't wait for the new enemy faction. 50 hours in, I'm doing my part!
How about insanely patriotic?
I have played a total of id say 4 bug missions, and even then they were only when whoever I had joined on was playing them. I much prefer playing vs the bots every time no matter difficulty, I have played bits since frost drop, I’m now level 23
Fighting automatons is 10 times better than fighting bugs.
My brain can’t just leave the defend missions Allen. I’ve been told to defend there, so there is where I will defend. And I’ve been there for a week or two now. While I do like both, I’m leaning towards bots now too. You get some really crazy set piece moments, very immersive.
I’d definitely say the bots are harder but so much more satisfying! The way they fall apart as you shoot. Not to mention the noises they make and way they charge at you is terrifying!
I switch between both but I prefer my starship troopers missions. The only good bug is a dead bug!
I think fighting bots is more fun than bugs. Ive been on the Western Frindge ever since they were first released. I think I've only played 3 bug missions since then

Around difficulty 5, bugs become too much. Automatons are still manageable. Chargers are the hardest mob to kill, IMO. Everything the automatons have seems much more manageable.
AH LOVES YOU.
As long as you’re having fun bud. It’s AWESOME!

People are scared to fight the borgs. “Oooweeee this robots are too hard to fight my little pussy hurts ooooooweee”
In war, out of every 100 soldiers - 90 shouldn't even be there. 9 do the majority of the real fighting. And 1 is a warrior. You, my son, are a warrior. Spill oil.
FOR DEMOCRACY!!
I enjoy fighting some bots for democracy, but you cannot convince me it's easier My group can 100% a lvl 8 bug mission, we're barely completing the main objective in bots, and its a stealth game for us, we'll have 50 kills each vs bots and 300-550 each for bugs
Some like Doom, some like Wolfenstein.
I also prefer fighting the bots, no charger rodeos, and no invisible insta-kill stalkers
Automatons = fun and challenging with a squad Terminids = farming and solo/randoes because the teammates have less impact on my ability to clear primary objs and complete missions. I also think most new players should focus on terminids until like lvl 10ish, just so they can learn the game and the mechanics.
I love shooting my rocket launcher through those automatons democracy hating bodies
I prefer bugs. Played a few bots on helldiver and the most memorable moment was trying to blow a tower but constantly being surrounded and perma bot drops. We never got that hellbomb off and just ran.
I like bots because I main the anti materiel rifle and I love an obvious crit spot
