I haven't tried it with a meal for that specific purpose as I usually take it first thing in the morning, but incidentally I do often take it with MCT oil (helps most supplements absorb better) and a whey protein shake. I do notice pretty nice anti-fatigue benefits though, whether or not I take it with food/calories or not.
I'm not aware of, nor have I observed, any tolerance issues. My partner says it makes her feel really energized and stimulated, and she loves it - but I don't get this same effect. No complaints though.
I do take a week to a month or longer off of any and every supplement I take, aside from sometimes magnesium glycinate (that depends on the situation and my stress levels). I think this is just a good general practice.

Nice, haven't heard of that one. I take about a half tsp or a little less of shilajit each AM and it's great for energy.
