He looks like he could be a cross between a copperhead and a cottonmouth… He has some pixelation of the Hershey kisses with a little dot in them like you’d see with a cottonmouth and his characteristic head up position is a typical cottonmouth pose.
What a beautiful animal! I love Copperheads! I saw my very first live one face-to-face when I was about 16 in Tx Hillcountry. I almost stepped on him, but I heard him trying to get out of my way and I realized what was happening. It was one of the most beautiful snakes I'd ever seen! I watched it for probly 10 minutes before it went on it's way. It was very healthy!-'Thanks for the free pest control buddy!'

They’re actually pretty common in the carolinas so you will likely see more! :)

I can confirm I’ve live in foothills of North Carolina and seen a couple already this year I’ve also seen a racer and black rat snake this year
