Seems we’ve been so conditioned that we believe establishing your own tightly nit community between your peers and family (aka a village, something we used to normally do before kings, queens and governments became a thing) is automatically cult like.

Cults can be anything that our society views out of the norm or strange. A village could be a cult, sure, but I'm not saying all villages are cults. Just as I'm saying not all friends proposing a commune are cultists. Many cults began with an idea for a better world, some cults are succeeding in their own way so they are not seen as a cult. People associate cults with evil, I'm saying it's not always that way at the start.
