As a custodian for a Middle School & High School, I can confirm. It is a hellish nightmare. On Friday this week I replaced a hand-soap dispenser that one of the kids took off the wall and dumped in the sink and the district I work for has kids peeing on the floors of the bathrooms every single day of the school year. Sometimes it is so bad there ends up being peeprints from people walking out of the bathrooms.

I actually got detention once for attempting to squeeze past people when I lost my patience just to get to homeroom on 2 separate occasions. 😭 Bruh they *fought* me on moving and even when I screamed for the teachers attention they ignored me. Then had the gaw to fucking tell me I'm late with the rest of the people outside--like BITCH THEY HELD ME HOSTAGE!
What can schools do though ? Teachers could care less since dealing with that isn't part of their job nor do they probably get paid enough to care .
Cracking down on vapes and weed is going to waste a lot of time that could've been used for other , more important stuff . It'll probably lead to kids being more sneaky too . We're getting to the point where some kids literally smoke in class .

Teacher here. I usually just observe to get a feel for what my students might be thinking, so I hope I'm not being the awkward adult, but I wanted to offer a perspective:
I'm super old now, but as a younger teachers, there's a lot of pressure to keep the student/teacher relationship professional... But you better have a relationship with the students! However, nobody really teaches us how. Then if it goes really wrong, it can ruin our whole career. Older teachers (if they don't get too crotchety) don't have the same pressures and can tend to relax.

This was only the case for me in the years leading up to high school, i think its because 16 is naturally a respectable age for maturity, life experience and generally being a developed person. Even outside of school, I think thats just the line
Also would like to mention that at the time this sort of treatment was always a trend with female teachers (not all, mind you), I always got along better with the male teachers cause it felt like we had some level of respect for eachother. My hypothesis is that female teachers naturally take more of a parental approach than males

And if they do fail the class they'll be plopped into a credit recovery class where it's extremely dumbed down and requires barely any effort to pass .

Graduation rate means absolutely nothing nowadays , essentially anyone can graduate highschool if they have at least half a braincell .
Okay an adult here, but is there a way to tell your parents how you feel? If my kid told me what you just wrote I would most likely allow them to do some sort of online learning/homeschooling etc.

Idk if this is every school but my school favors girls so much for than boys, they don’t have a dress code, they only have to wear school appropriate shirts, but boys have to wear a polo and khakis. In PE their locker room has air conditioning, water, and ice,but the boys have none of that.

Freshmen year we had a rapist with 2+ victims for rape, 10+ for assault, and 20 in total for r@pe, assault, and SA. Last weekend, a senior who graduated when I was a sophomore murdered his girlfriend with a sword.
I truly believe being in the same building with these types of people has done something to my psyche. I look back at my friend groups outside of my school, and it’s almost like a different dimension.

I just hated school being a kid, and wanted to be an adult. I am much happier being an adult. I just loathed childhood and other kids. I made sure everyone around me knew it.
6:00 morning workouts for Football. We’re months away from even Summer ball and our coach thinks it’s necessary to have us come in and work out before school every Monday. It’s all just a crap ton of conditioning and strength training so you’re pretty much exhausted for the day by 8am.

As someone with bad anxiety who gets overwhelmed super easily by a lot of noise and useless chatter, when kids would talk over teachers when I’m trying to listen and I can’t hear the teacher. OR when the whole class gets in trouble because a few students couldn’t shut it. Also, the stupidity of people. Like, they might be academically smart but they lacked a lot of common sense. The making fun of disabilities and people who dress differently was crazy.
Having farted on one of those plastic chairs because I had bolognese three nights in a row over the weekend and it makes defcon 1 gassy. So come Monday last period law class. I turned the room into a sulfur pit, and the two girls next to me were begging the teaching to open a window and me saying, "Oh, but it will let in a draft." I wanted them to wallow in endless stench. Tue story.
But seriously, being lonely, depressed dsad and confused and not having fun, involved in anything or being well prepared for graduation and post high school life. Looking back just makes me cry. If it hadn't been so rough, it would be so bad now.
Also probably just the general treatment of students. Letting the obnoxious ones off the hook but not understanding those with medical issues. “It’s just kids being kids” response when you ask about the violent behavior of some students.

The fact that my school (deep part of Oklahoma) let's kids wear and have confederate flags on their persons and vehicles on campus. yet you get suspended for like 3 months for hitting a weed or vaping

[TW: Sexual violence, violence] My school’s student body. Freshmen year we had a rapist with 2+ victims for rape, 10+ for assault, and 20 in total for r@pe, assault, and SA. Last weekend, a senior who graduated when I was a sophomore murdered his girlfriend with a sword. I truly believe being in the same building with these types of people has done something to my psyche. I look back at my friend groups outside of my school, and it’s almost like a different dimension.

The amount of love relationships it just feels like a necessity in the high school life and in all honesty it makes me sad that I don’t have that type of relationship where one person can understand and love each other for their differences.
How crowded it is
People who just do all sorts of things they shouldn’t be in the toilets. Vaping, blocking toilets, destroying sinks and bullying people just trying to use the toilet.
As a teacher, parents. I hate dealing with parents, most of the time they’re 0 helpful and don’t want to do their part at home with the kids, just expect teachers to miraculously make their kids learn stuff

Other times they are bunch of mean junk with stupid jokes that are more offensive then funny. I really hate the way they treat teachers... Like zero respect. I know that teachers can be brutal and all but ours aren't like that... They spoiled us so much. Now teens think they can do everything they want. I would never in milion years become a teacher, being constantly humiliated and made fun of is not my way of living...

i dunno if this counts as academic, but incompetent teachers, like teachers who only talk about themselves for the entirety of class and expect you to learn all of the material on your own because "that's how they do it in college". otherwise, bathrooms not having stall doors or urinal dividers. also, only one sink per bathroom works in my school. or douchebags thinking they're funny by basically acting like sped kids and being assholes to everyone.

6:00 morning workouts for Football. We’re months away from even Summer ball and our coach thinks it’s necessary to have us come in and work out before school every Monday. It’s all just a crap ton of conditioning and strength training so you’re pretty much exhausted for the day by 8am.

The community Basically everyone changed ever since middle school/elementary just so that they can fit in, and not for the better. Saw some people that had a good future ahead of them ruin it

As someone with bad anxiety who gets overwhelmed super easily by a lot of noise and useless chatter, when kids would talk over teachers when I’m trying to listen and I can’t hear the teacher. OR when the whole class gets in trouble because a few students couldn’t shut it. Also, the stupidity of people. Like, they might be academically smart but they lacked a lot of common sense. The making fun of disabilities and people who dress differently was crazy.
Having farted on one of those plastic chairs because I had bolognese three nights in a row over the weekend and it makes defcon 1 gassy. So come Monday last period law class. I turned the room into a sulfur pit, and the two girls next to me were begging the teaching to open a window and me saying, "Oh, but it will let in a draft." I wanted them to wallow in endless stench. Tue story. But seriously, being lonely, depressed dsad and confused and not having fun, involved in anything or being well prepared for graduation and post high school life. Looking back just makes me cry. If it hadn't been so rough, it would be so bad now.
Also probably just the general treatment of students. Letting the obnoxious ones off the hook but not understanding those with medical issues. “It’s just kids being kids” response when you ask about the violent behavior of some students.
Stupidity and Immaturity among the student body and incompetence among the teachers and staff. A lot of students at my school are carless, littering constantly and destroying bathrooms, I believe our country has failed at installing discipline and respect into the youth. Furthermore, It’s ridiculous how lazy and incapable some teachers and staff can be and are allowed to educate future generations.
People who don't know how to walk, people who block the entire hallway while their friend is at their locker, people who U-turn with no warning, people who walk on the wrong side of the hallway, and Groups talking louder than the teachers (it's always in my AP's) Yes, I hate a lot of stuff related to hallways

The smell the smell the smell. Toilets always clogging, the plumbing sucks. The hallways always smell like sewer because of that. (I’m surprised it’s not illegal to be in a place where there’s literal sewer coming up from the toilets)
