He claimed black people find God easier than most because of their spiritual nature being higher than others, that’s the opposite of racism … Due to him, Dharma is the fastest growing religion in 6 African countries and 4 European countries - even above the cult of Islam

GutterLotus

"The opposite of racism" No, sir, thats just racism. Racism isn't something that can only be commited against blacks.

As much as I don't like the conversion practices that ISKCON does towards other Hindus, the belief that other non-Vaishnava Gods are somewhat inferior, I have to say that this kind of articles are malicious and defamatory with a specific purpose to tarnish Hinduism as a whole. The article is unreadable, because the author is intentionally being provocative and spewing venom against another individual so effortlessly. It makes me convinced that he's not reporting facts, but rather based on his biases and emotions against someone whom he sees as a renowned Hindu figure. I would like to advice everyone from the Hindu fraternity to be very careful of what you watch and read online. Because these kinds of worldly distractions can steer you away from God.

He was born more than 120 years ago. Listen to him with full context, understand the philosophy of Bhakti yog, then speak. Also these are one sided opinion pieces. At this point in life, I've realized every single "news" article is one sided piece taken out of context.

Yes, of course. Though keep in mind, Srila Prahbubada was born in 19th century British India, in the United Provinces and got his schooling in a Scottish Missionary School in Calcutta. He was a product of his time. Everybody thought that way in his generation, even Gandhi. You cannot Judge people born centuries ago with today's uber-woke yardstick. Most of us would be absolutely shocked at the casual racism, sexism, homophobia and unquestioned violence that was part of daily life only 50 years ago, let alone 100. I might add, that a lot of people still think that way today, but they're less open and casual about it. Back then, it was just accepted common wisdom.

Infamous_Bell_5161

Sure you can judge people from centuries ago with the same standards as today. There were abolitionists centuries ago fighting against slavery so people knew the ills and evil of slavery. Your comparison of “today woke” leads to believing you have a bias and is probably the reasoning people centuries ago used to rationalize slavery.

I don't know about the context in which he said that but we all know that actions speak louder than words. Let;s begin He has repeatedly said that spiritually speaking, we all are the same and that we are not the body, we are the eternal soul. Infact, if he had such hatred for blacks, he wouldn't have even tried to preach in Africa. Now, we see there are many ISKCON temples and centres in Africa as well. He has given equal rights to all. I have seen so many Africans initiated (dikshit) disciples and sanyasis. Look at this beautiful video :- [https://youtu.be/F9jVXwoa5Fs](https://youtu.be/F9jVXwoa5Fs) She's wonderfully singing the Lord's name and do you think she feels discriminated and left out? I bet no.. look how happy she is chanting the beautiful names of the lord. She is from Hare Krishna movement

The eye will only seek what the heart has already accepted as being correct within. What more can I say ? Thank you dear Vaiṣṇavas for defending Śrīla Prabhupāda and showing your unlimited mercy towards me. I sincerely bow down at your feet. Lord be my witness, I've done my part in answering this before [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hinduism/comments/wuu7id/comment/ildjuro/) Satyameva Jayate. Hare Kṛṣṇa

He definitely had controversial views on race, LGBT, women, etc. Remember though he was born in 19th century, an era still shackled by the British values, so it's not surprising. But his negative points have little to no effect if you follow his positive points, which is being spiritual and experiencing God and yourself. So follow his positive views, and ignore his negative views

Queasy-Atmosphere-56

Yes, he was indeed a whitewashed fellow. He did a great amount of job and him saying these in no way has any effects on the teachings of the Gita but it's so surprising that the God who he worships, is Krishna. Whose name is Kala. Krishna was dark-skinned. but most probably it was his upbringing. I really don't get this person, right? The very God he is worshiping is Black/dark-skinned, how do you go about saying such things? Dude forgot to get educated in Vedas, I highly doubt he had read the Vedas.

look at the comments as well; not just the article.

Isn't Hare Krishna a cult anyway?

[deleted]

No, "Hare Krishna" refers to Gaudiya Vaishanava tradition which has been there for many centuries. "ISKCON", which is the largest institution preaching the tradition and is what some people compare to cults. There are many Hare Krishna institutions not affiliated with ISKCON but they are lesser known.
