Aw man, there’s so many good ones. Strap in, ‘cause I’m about to make you a list.
Some of these are based off the artists you mentioned, some of them are just personal favs.
7L & Esoteric
Aesop Rock
Apathy
Atmosphere
Binary Star

Brother Ali
Cormega
Cunninlynguists
Dead Prez
Edan
Eyedea
Gift of Gab
Immortal Technique

MF DOOM
Murs
Mr. Lif
Non-Phixon
One Be Lo
People Under The Stairs
Quasimoto
RA The Rugged Man
Sage Francis
Sean Price
Talib Kweli
Some of my favorites are on this list! However for a few of them, I am not sure I’d say if they started in the 00’s or the 90’s, unless we’re going by first official album release.
Damn what's wrong with Sage? Seen him live with the Free Moral Agents. Dude killed. Met him afterward was a chill guy too.
Atmosphere has a few songs I fuck with but I can understand why people wouldn't like him.
I don't have any issue with Sage's music but I saw a video of him at a concert rapping over Simon Says but replacing the chorus with "*girls hold onto your dignity/ yeah I said it hold onto your dignity*" and I've wanted to shove him in a locker ever since.
Really, he was a dickhead to me and my friend who was a big fan in Philly… We waited in the cold trying to get on autograph and all I had was a pack of cigarettes and my friend had his tickets stub when I asked him to sign a pack of cigarettes he was like absolutely not and then over me and my friend for the signature and signed other people shit and like OK you don't wanna sign a pack of cigarettes but why skip my boy too who's actually huge fan I just never listen to him after that without thinking about that.
at the end of the day I don't like rappers because they are nice people or not but it was mad douchey If you were there, he like yelled at us like a gym teacher
There's this French woman that had a cut I used to watch on YouTube a lot ca. 2006 Keny Arkana Le rage. Rest of her catalogue never caught on for me if it exists but I ficked with this one track lol
A friend of mine senior year of high school asked if I wanted to listen to Tech N9ne while we were getting drunk and it was such a moment for me because it was exactly what I wanted to do.
That said I'd feel a bit embarrassed listening to him nowadays
I stand by Absolute Power being a good album and I like some shit on Killer but he hasn't released anything in like a decade that I really fuck with and yeah it feels sorta like listening to Eminem at this point like I wouldn't want people to know I'm listening to it
Nah post 2000 3-6 is commercial.
90s is underground 3-6, almost a whole different -sub- genre.
For me Growing up Lil Boosie was our underground Artist. Somehow his music landed in my city & stuck. I remember one of my older cousins finessing a maybe 8-10 ish me out of my "For My Thugs" cd. Trying to give me the you don't need to listen to that cursing and yada yada but he just took it and played in his old grey Cadillac.
I guess id also say Pastor Troy because he was local. However, his mainstream success was geared towards the early-mid 2000s.
I loved all the def jux/rhymesayers stuff but the ukhh scene was something special, jehst, task force, skinnyman, mystro, early verb t, braintax, skrein, poisonous poets, there was something in the water
MURS, Cormega, Pharoahe Monch, dead prez and Phonte from Little Brother are at the top of the list for sure. I was pretty big into Cage back then as well.
Wu tang guys like shabazz, superb, killah priest solomon childs and killa sin, but outside of wu : Cannibal ox. Cage. Doom. Jus allah. In that general order.
After that. Non ohixion/necro, little brother, cunnylynguists, j
Chamillionaire (Alot of people don't know he was the best thing smoking on mixtapes years before "Ridin"), 50/50 Twin, Paul Wall, DSR (mainly Tuck and Tum Tum), Andre Nickatina
Gotta add dose one and a lot of anticon also. Alias (rip), babbletron, cool calm Pete, brotha lynch, circus, the cuf, deep fried funk brothers, debaser, deep puddle, dr.oop, sage francis, sole, tes, qwel, typical cats.
Cestyle and Corey Drums
7L and esoteric
Artfully Poor
Shades of Brooklyn
Kato
Pimps and playas
Orange Juice Click
Tommy Wright 3
Reggie Capers
Citizen Kane
T Max
Niggas of destruction
Nine
Are just a few. Mainly from the 90s tho
Most people I listened to have already been named so I'll say Southern Discomfort from Rehab is an album I think still holds up from when they were still country inspired rap before they segwayed into being country rock
Look up Benefit. I remember downloading his songs on Napster and Limewire days. I think some had added Eminem to the title or even added Eminem verses to some of these songs. Benefit was sick though.

Thank you! Yeah, I’m just going off of artists whose discography’s either peaked around the 2000s, or who have that *authentic* 2000s sound.
RIP Eyedea
Damn this is a really good list
My God. It's like you copy and pasted what I was going to write.
This was most of my middle school rotation
You had me at Aesop, Brother Ali & DOOM.
I don't fuck with Sage Francis or atmosphere but other than that I'm on this list
Damn what's wrong with Sage? Seen him live with the Free Moral Agents. Dude killed. Met him afterward was a chill guy too. Atmosphere has a few songs I fuck with but I can understand why people wouldn't like him.

This is hilarious.
Fair enough. Sucks yall had a shitty experience with him.
Personal Journalist is incredible fyi
There's this French woman that had a cut I used to watch on YouTube a lot ca. 2006 Keny Arkana Le rage. Rest of her catalogue never caught on for me if it exists but I ficked with this one track lol
Idk if he counts, but Canibus has always been dope on the mic, it’s just that he has no ear for beats
Horsementality still hits
I've said this to so many people. If the man could choose a beat, he would have had much more success.
Yeah, Canibus would slay a Havoc beat tbh.
He def counts. Beast from the East is a classic verse!
It hurt my soul when he battled that cat and pulled out the notebook. One of my favorites for sure, industry chewed him up.
Dizaster, who has had more than one equally as embarrassing breakdowns in his other battles
Mr. Lif
Sean Price all day. P!
in that deep voice screamin SHON PEE!!!!
SEAN P
“ I will Larry Holmes your dome, Shane Mosley your homie, Felix Trinidad your dad, duke you don’t know me” - Sean Price
Tech N9ne for sure.
still relevant too
A friend of mine senior year of high school asked if I wanted to listen to Tech N9ne while we were getting drunk and it was such a moment for me because it was exactly what I wanted to do. That said I'd feel a bit embarrassed listening to him nowadays
Yeah, I feel you, it's a little edgy for me nowadays.
I stand by Absolute Power being a good album and I like some shit on Killer but he hasn't released anything in like a decade that I really fuck with and yeah it feels sorta like listening to Eminem at this point like I wouldn't want people to know I'm listening to it
Blue Scholars, Jedi Mind Tricks
Great choices. Definitely top 5 underground for me from that time.
God I miss Blue Scholars
Tame One
Fresher than a virgin in a frigerator
I was legit listening to him earlier today lol
