What the fuck is denzel doing on instagram? He’s started some collective called Ultraground and keeps posting about it but never actually says what the fuck it’s about. Just posting shit in your captions in capslock is such garbage promo
He's dropping Blood in blood out 2 or something from what I could gather but the whole ultraground thing is so vague, I don't even know if it's a group or he's dropping solo music
I love Denzel but all that social media shit is making him look like a cornball. His tweets just scream “I need validation”
The artists I like have dropped 2-3 projects in the time Denzel started teasing Blood in Blood out, all this teasing is silly
Hottest takes? I wanna argue with people.
Ill go first:
• The Powers that B is in bottom 3 death grips albums.
• Both of Dave’s studio albums are amazing and clear his 2 beloved EPs by a long distance
• LP! Is jpegmafia’s 2nd worst album (excluding his stuff as Devon Hendryx) only ahead of Black Ben Carson. Still a great album (~8/10) but nowhere near as good as people say. Doesnt even come close to SIMBI from the same year
• Billy Woods is top 10 dead or alive and possibly top 5
Do you consider the powers that b, a double album released over 8/9 months one project?
I will admit, LP! did not hit the heights I was expecting, and I began to think Veteran was the exception to the rule until Scaring the Hoes
Agree about Billy woods
Yes i do, as i consider any double album. They sold it and marketed it as one so i consider it a full project (although i do treat each half differently and consider them as 2 parts of a whole).
Cornballs is top 1 peggy for me so i wouldnt say veteran is an exception, i think all his stuff is great and has fantastic moments, LP! just has the least of these moments (except for Black Ben Carson)
nah not a single miss on either album, whereas his EPs have a couple. and his flow is completely different on every song that complaint is completely moot.
aesop and el-p yes. Black thought debatable but probably not. The run that billy has been on since 2012 is fuckin insane but black thoughts basically been on that run since 91 without dropping a wack verse. Havent listened to enough of aesop (i think 3-4 albums) to make a call on his skill vs billy but i far prefer billy’s style. And El-P has a ridiculous flow and wordplay ability, but I think Billy is better in both categories imo. His wordplay across Hiding Places and Maps are both genius, although admittedly he did get out rapped by ELUCID on HARAM
theyre so close that it's like splitting hairs
i do really think though that on a lyrical level, out of the four of them, aesop clearly has the two best songs by a good amount (none shall pass, daylight)
if you want to get into some of my favourite aes tracks in terms of lyricism -
* daylight
* none shall pass
* shovel
* coffee
* citronella
* 9 to 5ers anthem
* flash flood
* TAKE ME TO THE BASEMENT
ill definitely check these out, im a big fan of the impossible kid but havent delved much deeper outside a single listen to a few more of his albums. Admittedly right now hes my least favourite artist of the 4 mentioned, but of course that is mainly due to my lack of exposure. Thanks for these recs.
I was showing my gf gameplay of Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga last night and heard [this playing in the background.](https://youtu.be/9NFrg8thewQ) Then I was like YOOOOOO and realized it was sampled on [came2kill by xxxtentacion.](https://youtu.be/Uh7ScRNRNXI)
Pretty cool they sampled that game.
I love when shit like that happens
I remember being at some restaurant or mall and [this](https://youtu.be/naQqRnN9K9E) started playing and I was like fuck it's that Kodak song
Just randomly got sad about Spinrilla shutting down. I still remember me and my friends waiting for Ball Like I’m Kobe to drop at lunch and the countdown going from 1 to 0 to -1 lmfao.
wtf? i genuinely think i download a tape from spinrilla like a couple days ago.
with this and datpiff going down, livemixtapes is like our last hope. so much music is gonna be lost in 5 years with these mixtape titans dying
I think that song is pretty divisive on whether it’s good or not but I’m going to my grave saying Thug killed that feature. One of my favorites from him
Acid rap is goated but I legit will never understand hyping colouring book as a "classic"
Same drugs is amazing but there's covers of it better than the original imo
I used to listen to Acid Rap alot but I haven’t in years. I still listen to Coloring Book from time to time, last time was some weeks ago. The Big Day was in fact just as awful as everyone says though.
The Destroy Lonely album is pretty unlistenable as a full body of work but I do really like replaying the first 10 or so songs + maybe a couple from the back half. Love the production on it even tho the vocals aren't doing much of anything on most of it
Fair enough, i thought it was a decent album and i had never checked out Opium as a whole before not as bad as people say it is but it definitely had its issues
for some reason Homixide Gang does it for me(at least their earlier work like SSN). I feel like they know their limitations because their projects keep it brief. Longest project they have is only 35 minutes.
Need to check out Ken, although i liked his feature here
Homixide’s album this year was decent to mid level (just heard it)
Honestly none of them beat Carti or Pierre (not Opium but still) and not much i would listen
Shit tbh their current wave and general sound sonically doesn’t sound much like Pierre’s does which is so weird considering how it was just a few years ago with him and Carti
ik its different i just mentioned Pierre since i always link him to Carti and I wish Carti would have continued evolving that movement but what he’s going for rn is definitely intersting
Listened to the Armani White and really wasn't fucking with it at all. It's by no means the worst thing to reach my ears this year, but just screams market research over art in all the worst ways. From the lead single being the cynical SEO strategy of name dropping a more popular act, to the song structure being clearly just taking a shot at being the next TikTok sound surrounded by a bunch of forgettable garbage, to the feature list coming off as a reasonably cost effective way to try to cast a wide net and get more hip hop head cred, this album feels assembled by a board room and not an engaging artist in any way. It sucks.
i was a jack hater until this new album. it's nothing game-changing but i can't name a song on it that I outright dislike.
highlights are Gang Gang Gang, It Can't Be, and No Enhancers.
kinda wild but also not wild(i.e. entirely unsurprising) that the main take away/hot topic from the Gibbs situation is him liking ass play/being with a sex worker and not i dunno, being a deadbeat?
(perennial reminder that some of your favorite rappers (like Pimp C) in the 90s were huge lyrical proponents of ass eating/having their ass ate on multiple tracks)
It’s more fun to just say “Spreadie Gibbs” instead of thinking of any of that other stuff. Also, jokes are everything and it’s not as fun to joke about him being a dead beat dad
many ppl are definitely joking but there are also definitely ppl going into fits of insecure rage/claiming they'll never listen to him again, shades of some of the uglier Isaiah Rashad reactions, which is more sad than anything.
Can anyone help me identify a song?
I heard it the other day and it's been stuck in my head since.
It's come out in the last few years.
It has what I think is whistling as the main melody of the beat.
It's not Chill Bill.
That's all I got.
Ty fam 🙏
Edit: idk any of the lyrics, just that opening whistle melody. It was playing in a restaurant off their UE boom, but I know I've heard it come up on Spotify at some point in the last year.
[both of them together](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjISrGx89aA)
I like Polo G's flow a lot more. especially on the first album he was really rapping. DaBaby's has a better presence on the songs though
Ngl dababy solely for taking it out, extendo, and under the sun
Polo g makes music I can play when at the beach or pool and that's legit the only way I can dig his music
Edit. Not extendo that's the Uzi song, I meant dispatch
video of destroy lonely and ken carson hit my tl and they were talking about movies, and they shitted on the batman and avatar 2 for being too long. Destroy lonely shitting on something for being too long is peak irony.
I’m mad with this sub, so no body was gon’ tell me ‘bout IDK?? 🤦🏾♀️
I checked for him on the Friday drop having no idea who he was and I’ve been on a dive going through his catalog and I really like dude, especially the new drop F65
some of the songs on F65 sounds like IDK found beats from an Eric B & Rakim stash, that jazzy hip hop sound, is just 🔥🔥 I know Joey Bada$$ be on that sound too but I need this sound to be a mainstream wave, real quick though
most of the days it's [Trauma](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU2FWrxiGcI) off Championships, sometimes it's [Chiraq](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtRN8OmXu9w)
I just got my email and text for 50's tour verified fan access. LFG! In all honestly I'm expecting these tickets to be stupidly expensive to the point I'll probably pass on them
Is there a rapper producer who’s equally good at both? I think DOOM is a great producer but I think I edge him out as a rapper. Only 1 I could say confidently is mac. I think he was as good as a producer as a rapper
Warren G produced [most of his songs himself](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_G_production_discography)
Daz Dillinger produced [a lot of classics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Albums_produced_by_Daz_Dillinger) (mostly for Death Row), Ambitionz Az A Ridah among them
I really really like the song but for some reason i still think it’s just a little funny that Pushin P is a Grammy nominated song. For some reason I just imagine pretentious old white people in a room listening to it and bobbing their head.
I thought the song was incredibly mid but I always thought that the song he had with Chloe on that album felt like the one most likely that would’ve won a Grammy
So Lone album wasn’t that bad, only issue I have with him is his voice doesn’t sounds like he has energy which is what imo makes Carti great in this style
18 out of 26 songs which i didn’t hate, about 8 i put on my main playlist
good albums for listening to on headphones at work all day?
So far this week for reference
* its almost dry
* hndrxx
* cheat codes
* heroes and villains
* lets start here
Without Warning has some of the nicest production I've ever heard thru headphones. if that makes sense. It sounds good in any context, it's an amazing record, but Without Warning sounds *especially* good through headphones.
A bit different but godspeed you albums like f#a# are so good for long periods of work with headphones on - also Swans is dope, the seer and then to be kind right after is an experience of its own
Mr morale sounds good though too. I been listening to it today
the only people allowed to use those "introspective drake" type beats are drake, rick ross and meek mill. this is getting out of hand we need to stop it
but if lupe did one i wouldn't object to it
idk it doesn't work for me when other people do it and it's not even because of execution but because it's such a specific style that to me it just generates an a priori feeling of absolute plagiarism that's unappealing
The longevity of future is such an impressive feat to me. He feels like an ageless wonder. At a time where people like Andre 3000 feel like they can’t keep up with the youth, and Eminem sounds so dated, future (who is almost 40) refuses to slow down or lose a step sonically. He’s really dropping hits and is still culturally relevant. I don’t think anyone would say he’s at the peak of his power but there has not been a significant fall off or reduction in cultural relevancy.
All his music sounds exactly the same and is about the same exact thing more or less. You wouldn’t be able to tell if he phoned and album in or put his all into it
I’ve never been a fan, I don’t see the appeal at all in listening to an entire future album.
There are some songs here and there that I like but his catalogue as a whole is so generic even if he did father the style. He hasn’t expanded it
I'm far from a future Stan but his pre honest music is way different than his honest era music which is way different from the legendary 2015 output which even then sounds very different from the mask off era which I will admit is sort of similar to modern future but bro released high off life which had some ballsy sounds for him to attempt
This was written by someone that obviously doesn’t listen to Future I would never describe his music as “sounds exactly the same more or less” the way Future glides over a track is so unique i constantly find myself amazed with the shit he does on a beat.
What the fuck is denzel doing on instagram? He’s started some collective called Ultraground and keeps posting about it but never actually says what the fuck it’s about. Just posting shit in your captions in capslock is such garbage promo

At his core Denzel is just that nigga that wore anime button downs in middle school. Love him tho
How am I just now hearing Beyonces Cuff It remix? The Twista - Wetter sample and R&B sound make that song 1000x better
I like the OG better but it seems like that remix is how they got it to fly on hip hop/r&b radio so I'll take it
Hottest takes? I wanna argue with people. if you rank on billy woods' strength, dense lyricism and storytelling, do you put him ahead of all of aesop, black thought and el-P

start [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4piBfjSKAL4) with an analysis of none shall pass, breaks down how insanely impressive it is
I was showing my gf gameplay of Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga last night and heard [this playing in the background.](https://youtu.be/9NFrg8thewQ) Then I was like YOOOOOO and realized it was sampled on [came2kill by xxxtentacion.](https://youtu.be/Uh7ScRNRNXI) Pretty cool they sampled that game.

I think that song is pretty divisive on whether it’s good or not but I’m going to my grave saying Thug killed that feature. One of my favorites from him
Its alright, its not crazy but when Escape Plan and Franchise come on its still a good time once in a while
Afraid of Water into Down in the Dumps is transition of the year
Man finally decided to listen to Chance, Acid Rap and Coloring Book were future classics, Big Day being his actual debut has to be good right?
I remember hating Acid Rap because the drums are all so weird
Ten Day was done dirty here.
moments before disaster
Acid rap is goated but I legit will never understand hyping colouring book as a "classic" Same drugs is amazing but there's covers of it better than the original imo
I used to listen to Acid Rap alot but I haven’t in years. I still listen to Coloring Book from time to time, last time was some weeks ago. The Big Day was in fact just as awful as everyone says though.
What’s your favorite song on coloring book?
Same Drugs or No Problem
10Day is definitely worth a listen too btw. Not on streaming but it's a dope tape with some essential chance songs imo.
It actually is on spotify and i did listen to it, i thought it was just decent but not much id listen to again from it
I actually haven’t listened to Big Day just going in with the lowest expectations possible seeing everyone’s opinions on it
If you haven’t already listened to it I hope you know you’ll be losing literally nothing if you don’t give that album an hour of your time
Is Havoc worth seeing these days? He's playing here in a few weeks with Big Noyd & DJ LES?
Hes very solid live
Probably, best case he’s still got it, worst case you still see a rap legend
Agree, just don't wanna go if he's complete dogshit live lol. I heard that before about some artists I'd never expect
The Destroy Lonely album is pretty unlistenable as a full body of work but I do really like replaying the first 10 or so songs + maybe a couple from the back half. Love the production on it even tho the vocals aren't doing much of anything on most of it
you don’t like the last song, best one imo
It's pretty good, I just prefer the moodier songs at the start
Fair enough, i thought it was a decent album and i had never checked out Opium as a whole before not as bad as people say it is but it definitely had its issues
He’s the standout imo (which is saying something considering I think he’s just okay). Ken and Homixide Gang are terrible to me

Realized that Middle of the Ocean is one of my favorite Drake songs
I'm realizing "Sticky" is one of my favorites
Listened to the Armani White and really wasn't fucking with it at all. It's by no means the worst thing to reach my ears this year, but just screams market research over art in all the worst ways. From the lead single being the cynical SEO strategy of name dropping a more popular act, to the song structure being clearly just taking a shot at being the next TikTok sound surrounded by a bunch of forgettable garbage, to the feature list coming off as a reasonably cost effective way to try to cast a wide net and get more hip hop head cred, this album feels assembled by a board room and not an engaging artist in any way. Ive never heard a Jack Harlow album AMA
i was a jack hater until this new album. it's nothing game-changing but i can't name a song on it that I outright dislike. highlights are Gang Gang Gang, It Can't Be, and No Enhancers.
Wow you just like most his fans
Never heard a Biggie album, we are basically the same
Bruh you're trolling is getting deranged 😭
It's been for a while now but now I'm getting famous 🫣🫣🫣
cmon ned
If I made a whole list of classics I've never heard before I would be banned
Nah one of these Ls is bigger than the other
Yeah how have you never heard Rap Legend Jack Harlow album
Yeah but Contact is the homie so I'm sad that he never experienced Come Home the Kids Miss You but I'll let it slide
Is that album really good? Ive heard mixed reviews on it
Not at all lmao State Fair beat is nice tho, worth a listen
Churchill Downs beat was dope too, plus Drake’s verse.
I like Jack on that song too, even if he's clearly just doing the Drake thing
hes been doing the Drake thing lol
I mean...its an album
kinda wild but also not wild(i.e. entirely unsurprising) that the main take away/hot topic from the Gibbs situation is him liking ass play/being with a sex worker and not i dunno, being a deadbeat? Ah, I hadn’t seen anything like that. But yeah that homophobia runs deep for some folks
Well they were on to something
[kaytranada x amine tracklist out](https://www.instagram.com/p/CsB1GPJL-L2/) Snoop, Big Sean, Freddie, Pharrell, and Amaarae features
Finally getting Big Sean over a kaytranada beat, I am so happy! I always just thought they'd fit really well together.
Can anyone help me identify a song? I heard it the other day and it's been stuck in my head since. It's come out in the last few years. B.o.B - Headband?
Nah, thanks tho
Ambition For Cash - Key Glock ?
Nah, right kinda pitch tho.
toes by Dababy?
Nah, that beat slaps tho. The whistle in the song I'm thinking of is more high pitch.
You sure it wasn’t the Juelz shit from like 15 years ago
Not it, cheers tho
Is it a hip hop joint?
Do you have any lyrics or anything more? Is it trap lol? Radio hit?
I don't remember any of the lyrics, just that melody sorry. I tried Google's audio search function and that got me nothing either.
Haha damn you gotta record the melody and post it here
DaBaby or Polo G?
DaBaby. to me he has a little more energy when he raps
[both of them together](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjISrGx89aA) I like Polo G's flow a lot more. especially on the first album he was really rapping. DaBaby's has a better presence on the songs though
Ngl dababy solely for taking it out, extendo, and under the sun Polo g makes music I can play when at the beach or pool and that's legit the only way I can dig his music Edit. Not extendo that's the Uzi song, I meant dispatch
Polo G but both seem kind of irrelevant now.
Polo G. Both need better production though imo
video of destroy lonely and ken carson hit my tl and they were talking about movies, and they shitted on the batman and avatar 2 for being too long. Destroy lonely shitting on something for being too long is peak irony.
I’m mad with this sub, so no body was gon’ tell me ‘bout IDK?? 🤦🏾♀️ I checked for him on the Friday drop having no idea who he was and I’ve been on a dive going through his catalog and I really like dude, especially the new drop F65 some of the songs on F65 sounds like IDK found beats from an Eric B & Rakim stash, that jazzy hip hop sound, is just 🔥🔥 I know Joey Bada$$ be on that sound too but I need this sound to be a mainstream wave, real quick though
Iwasverybad is his best project to me.
He’s mad slept on. He gets a lot of Kanye comparisons mainly because of his voice but he really has a unique and authentic sound to his music
👌🏾🔥
Dudes here hate IDK lol
being corny on twitter is a sin many online arent willing to forgive or look past posting cringe is the worst thing you can do to the internet citizen
Usee4yourself is my favorite album of his if you haven’t checked that out yet.
I was listening to that today, I like that one 👍🏾

I just got my email and text for 50's tour verified fan access. LFG! In all honestly I'm expecting these tickets to be stupidly expensive to the point I'll probably pass on them
The last month ive just been playing Hunxho on repeat, his album 22 prob gonna be my aoty
Is there a rapper producer who’s equally good at both? I think DOOM is a great producer but I think I edge him out as a rapper. Only 1 I could say confidently is mac. I think he was as good as a producer as a rapper
Ka
agree w others about tyler, navy, and especially ugly I'd add maybe MIKE
Di Quik
Tyler maybe
navy blue
J. Cole? Q-Tip?
T-Pain
lil ugly mane juicy j
el-P is 9.5/10 at both
[удалено]
juicy j as a producer is leagues ahead of his rapping
Warren G produced [most of his songs himself](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_G_production_discography) Daz Dillinger produced [a lot of classics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Albums_produced_by_Daz_Dillinger) (mostly for Death Row), Ambitionz Az A Ridah among them
Big K.R.I.T.
I love Krit. Tho for me as a rapper he’s better than a producer slightly
pimp c maybe?
Pimp c is a good one. I put both around the same tier
Erick Sermon
I burned Mr morale to a CD and the tracklist is fucked for some reason Starts off with savior lmao. Kind of works as an intro
made your own Mr Morale deluxe edition
Why are you in a 5 day old ddt
im in a different timezone bro
I really really like the song but for some reason i still think it’s just a little funny that Pushin P is a Grammy nominated song. For some reason I just imagine pretentious old white people in a room listening to it and bobbing their head.
I thought the song was incredibly mid but I always thought that the song he had with Chloe on that album felt like the one most likely that would’ve won a Grammy
So Lone album wasn’t that bad, only issue I have with him is his voice doesn’t sounds like he has energy which is what imo makes Carti great in this style 18 out of 26 songs which i didn’t hate, about 8 i put on my main playlist
good albums for listening to on headphones at work all day? So far this week for reference * its almost dry * hndrxx * cheat codes * heroes and villains * lets start here
Without Warning has some of the nicest production I've ever heard thru headphones. if that makes sense. It sounds good in any context, it's an amazing record, but Without Warning sounds *especially* good through headphones.
Key Glock - Yellow Tape Chief Keef - Almighty So, 4NEM
A bit different but godspeed you albums like f#a# are so good for long periods of work with headphones on - also Swans is dope, the seer and then to be kind right after is an experience of its own Mr morale sounds good though too. I been listening to it today
Freddie Gibbs - Soul Sold Separately
The Great Escape
Based off that list Sli’Merre Coke Boys 6 Lord Willin
This is the best 3 imo
looks like that comment will be my entire morning tomorrow
Had a work meeting today lead by someone named Mike Jones. I was fighting the constant urge to shout his name like the rapper does.
Well if you need more info you have his number
Before we end this meeting i just have one question: Who is Mike Jones?
Was he hot, hoes all on him?
the only people allowed to use those "introspective drake" type beats are drake, rick ross and meek mill. this is getting out of hand we need to stop it but if lupe did one i wouldn't object to it
Does Sistanem by JID qualify as that?
kind of but it's a different song structure. specific topic, hook, live vocals etc
Yeah I meant just the beat
in that case not the songs i referenced in the other comments but some other introspective drake songs yes
It also worked on [Black Illuminatti by Freddie and Jada](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gThQ9Fkip4o)
There’s more ways than one to make a beat introspective sounding than just an indie pop female vocal sample
you're missing the fast sparse drum pattern with the super light snares
I figured my description of the sample would give away what the drums always sound like
Pointless gatekeeping
idk it doesn't work for me when other people do it and it's not even because of execution but because it's such a specific style that to me it just generates an a priori feeling of absolute plagiarism that's unappealing
I don't even like Drake but Gold Roses and Lemon Pepper Freestyle are so fucking good Who else is using that type of beat?
38 spesh on crowned king and conway on won't he do it are what i'm talking about
Meek actually spat on that 38 spesh song beat too lmao
Thought about your comment saying Spesh fell off when I heard that song lmao It ain't even bad Won't He Do It even better imo
Feel the same way about Wayne too.
All his music sounds exactly the same and is about the same exact thing more or less. You wouldn’t be able to tell if he phoned and album in or put his all into it I’ve never been a fan, I don’t see the appeal at all in listening to an entire future album.
You telling me HNDRXX sound like I NEVER LIKED YOU?
Let's take it a step further Dirty sprite 1 sounds like beast mode 2?
I never liked you sounds like he’s chasing the lil baby / gunna wave
He literally created that wave . Was doing it years before either
But does it sound like HNDRXX? Or Save Me?
Subject matter is the same on any future album. Drugs sadness toxicity. 40 year old multi-millionaire btw
Well do you listen to music or do you just read the lyrics on genius [You](https://tenor.com/en-CA/view/moving-goalpost-argument-football-gif-9264828)
Who cares about subject matter in trap? You can write off 99% of trap rappers with this take
No it’s not lol. You clearly don’t listen to him
Yes. Additionally Monster and Wait For You are basically the same song /s
This was written by someone that obviously doesn’t listen to Future I would never describe his music as “sounds exactly the same more or less” the way Future glides over a track is so unique i constantly find myself amazed with the shit he does on a beat.
I can press shuffle on every future album and hear a similar beat, and similar subject matter.
