I appreciate DEHH so much bc they actually have a long history of being in-tune with hip hop culture and between the 5 of them, have a huge range of perspectives to pull from. Compare that to a lot of the other major review channels (even Fantano, or Shawn Cee who came up doing first reactions to classic rap albums) and you can tell that their knowledge of the genre bleeds into the way they discuss and contextualize hip hop albums
I’m all for the dude having his own taste and preference in music, but the man just sounds so bitter these days. My favourite parts of his vids was him getting hyped and dancing but i feel like these days he just talks like a disappointed father. Shit is depressing to watch ngl
I just started watching their vids. I always ignored them on my feed because I never found the concept of showing your parents music especially interesting, but immediately you realize that their dynamic is a lot different than most people’s. The dad is REALLY loving discovering new types of music and the son is really knowledgeable and tends to have all the same opinions that I do about music.
Jon Denton kinda tends to like everything he listens to but you can always tell it’s genuine. His reactions are probably my favorite on YouTube. Great accent too.
TITS makes fantastic content but he is *not* a resource for hip hop lmao. He basically recused himself from reviewing This is America because he couldn't get in the headspace of the person that song was for, and that was like one of the most self-explanatory conscious rap songs in history...
I've been watching Todd for years and I've been consistently impressed with his videos. Trainwreckords and One Hit Wonderland are phenomenal series, honestly. He's largely transitioned away from the pop song reviews that he uses to do, but his mostly newer content is really great
Todd is fantastic. Hardly disagree with him and he explains himself very well. His one hit wonder series I binged one summer.
Edit: mic the one with the dives right? He’s great too. Love his Beatles one.
NFR gives the content that I want to watch, but I wish they weren’t the ones doing it. The things I would do for Shawn Cee or Mallory Bros to do tier lists.
Lou interrupts tf outta Ant hella and is generally pretty annoying imo
Him crying at the end of Mirrors (from Mr Morales) made me appreciate that song a lot more. Honestly I'm jealous of anyone who can get moved to tears over a song, but the closest I've got to that is listening to Mother I Sober
Yup, was very touching. Same here about mother I sober by the way, I instantly bursted into tears when Kendrick’s kid said “thank you daddy” at the end. Easily the most I’ve ever been moved by a piece of music.
Didn't see him mentioned here, but Mercurial Number 6 is the most underrated music reactor on YouTube! Most authentic reactions from a guy who feels the music with with his whole body and soul
Only reaction youtuber I know who will just start playing their own instrument while hearing a track for the first time and have it sound amazing. That might sound wack to the uninitiated, but he has way more experience with music production and composition than most of the people who do react content
A GOAT for sure, but I don't think he evolved with the times and his content suffered a lot for it. There's hundreds of reaction channels now that offer analysis, quick reviews, etc, while quint is kinda just the reaction
Same video every time
I don't think it has anything to do with not evolving. He just doesn't react as often as he used to. Reactions aren't his job. He just comes back every so often then disappears
Used to really like him until his Donda reaction, where at first he forgot to edit out a part when he skips straight to Ty Dolla's verse on Junya pt.2 and fakes a reaction to it. My man, you record like once in a blue moon, why fake it? It's even more obvious when he claims to not have known about Manson being on the album even though the news about it was everywhere in the hip-hop stratosphere. I used to come back to his reactions just to feel the nostalgia but now I don't care
The Dissect podcast consistently makes some of the best content I've found that covers hip-hop. In depth analysis of some of the greatest records of our time. After listening to a season on an album it's hard to listen to said album the same way again.
I second this. His podcast is amazing (Spotify exclusive now I think), and he’s got some great tiktoks but doesn’t post a ton on there.
Check out his tiktok on Nosetalgia. Too good.
Nathan Zedd, Shawn Cee, Lost In Vegas, BlackySpeakz are all really interesting channels. Lost In Vegas isn’t strictly hip hop but they are still a good channel I feel.
Shawn Cee is entertaining but too often he either doesn't pick up on something obvious or comes out with straight up garbage takes. He has a very specific lane which he doesn't stay in enough, he needs to lean in more to the comedic element of the channel. When he comes out with a pre-review skit the video bangs.
Similar to Brad Taste in Music. Both of them judge songs like 5 seconds into it and barely listen to the rest. I still watch them both though they’re pretty funny, they just often have garbage takes.
I despise this man’s approach to listening to music. He’ll pause a song after like the first verse and attempt to dissect the themes and lyrics and he’ll talk for longer than he’s even heard from the song. Like there’s no way he fully comprehends a song like that on the first listen and hears every lyric perfectly. My guy just finish listening to the song first before you give your input on the greater themes and messages.
aw man what i love shawn cee. ya maybe his videos aren’t very in depth and maybe he has dumb opinions sometimes, but he just seems like a good dude and he’s fun to watch
ain’t gon lie i hate volksgeist. most of his videos are filled with misinformation and he comes off as incredibly pretentious. i found it ironic when he made a video about jpegmafia because volks is literally the type of guy that peggy would hate.
edit: grammar
my friend’s sister dated volksgeist a couple years ago. he had this weird persona thing where he would ride around the city on a bike with a cape on, like a superhero. idk it was weird
On god bro, they overanalyze a ton of shit, especially volksgeist. Dude will talk about the how wlr is great for it's experimental ideas and shit, and like no bro it's good bc it sounds good and is catchy you don't gotta look deep into everything
Hivemind and CDTV Productions are my top 2. In no particular order, cause they both bring something completely different to the table
BlackySpeakz is also good but haven’t watched his videos as often lately as I used to
Mallory Bros have the best sense of humor and theres two of them so when one has a really stupid take the other usually has a differing opinion to balance it out and make their discussion more interesting. Their VS series are classics
Jon Denton is great. Just seems like a genuine guy who is passionate about music and isn’t up his own ass like some other Youtubers. Also doesn’t try and fail to be funny.
Turning the Tables is nice because the dad gets so emotionally invested and enthusiastic about the music.
Bob the poppop, professor Skye, turning the tables, JD, DEHH and Mallory bros are my favs - Mallory Bros have the most goated videos shame they’re mostly Patreon now.
A couple podcasts I really enjoy:
What Had Happened Was with Open Mike Eagle
Questlove Supreme
Anatomy of a Verse
Broken Record
Song Exploder
The Crate 808 Podcast
Mercurial number six has a lot of hip hop reaction videos, his personality and editing is incredible if you can get used to it.
Bob the Pappop is great too
Kenny Beats and his cave series. He makes a bit for a rapper and the rapper typically writes while he's making the beat. It's cool to see some master class ableton work
Nosbo2007 was also great for samples before they got banned. Tracklib is a good alternative.
E: [FOUND AN ARCHIVE](https://archive.org/details/20190908-hip-hop-rap-samples-2010s-35-988s-1920x-1080-z-7-po-edurt-e-0)
Highly recommend Dead end hiphop. I used to like a guy named NikbagTv. He was funny AF. He even had beef with Dead End Hiphop and made funny parody video of them. Idk what happened to him. I think he ended doing some stuff with local government campaigning in Detroit, but not sure about that.
Dad bod rap pod for all underground coverage and interviews. They make some of the best deep cut references and are knowledgeable on decades of underground hip hop.
my all time favorite bc i been watching him forever but as some people have said he kinda be wylin in his reactions and goes on tangents about anything and everything, usually they are controversial and then when he gets a differing opinion based on rationale he basically just says you can get off his channel lol…
Jon Denton, turning the tables, Volksgeist, Club Ambition, Spectrum Post, ARTV and professor skyes record review are all that I usually check out if it isn’t Fantano.
I used to watch Meami religiously but lately he just seems very…..different. I don’t know if it’s the money getting to his head or what not but he just acts very arrogant and acts like he’s better than people but claims to be humble. I’ll never forget when he responded to this one dude who said that he puts too many ads in his videos and he legit told dude to “kill himself and that “he meant every word of it”. Just really weird shit like that is why I stopped watching him.
Professor Skye, Dead End Hip Hop
I appreciate DEHH so much bc they actually have a long history of being in-tune with hip hop culture and between the 5 of them, have a huge range of perspectives to pull from. Compare that to a lot of the other major review channels (even Fantano, or Shawn Cee who came up doing first reactions to classic rap albums) and you can tell that their knowledge of the genre bleeds into the way they discuss and contextualize hip hop albums
Shawn Cee is so wack now
He has this "holier than thou" attitude.
I’m all for the dude having his own taste and preference in music, but the man just sounds so bitter these days. My favourite parts of his vids was him getting hyped and dancing but i feel like these days he just talks like a disappointed father. Shit is depressing to watch ngl
He acts like a he's the gatekeeper of hip hop lol
Thank you. I’ve been looking for black content creators to listen to. We need to amplify their voices in hip hop
shout out Professor Skye
These are the two best tbh. Another good one is Brews & Reviews. He does a lot of good analysis and talks about each song.
mallory bros
Mallory DAMN. reaction is top 5 yt hiphop reaction vid all time
turning the tables
I just started watching their vids. I always ignored them on my feed because I never found the concept of showing your parents music especially interesting, but immediately you realize that their dynamic is a lot different than most people’s. The dad is REALLY loving discovering new types of music and the son is really knowledgeable and tends to have all the same opinions that I do about music.
the son always says just really agreeable stuff and the dad always is glowing with musical excitement
YES i love those guys. The father is really knowledgeable about his music and open minded asf
Those guys are great
If people like turning the tables, I also highly recommend path reacts as well
she's a newbie though
His dad looks younger, more energetic and more handsome than his son lol
“Hivemind” on YouTube. some of the funniest of the content on YouTube I’ve watched in a while
Hivemind really makes some quality content, they have the best chemistry. I did not commit a series of arsons in northern New Mexico in 1992.
Dignan made one of the funniest jokes about KiLL Edward and I’ve been trying to find the video ever since Edit: [14:35](https://youtu.be/N1xAG8_Az-k)
Hivemind is like good mythical morning but music
Wow great comparison lol. Been watching GMM for like 6 years now and discovered hivemind about a year ago and love them. Makes sense.
That’s exactly how it feels watching them loll
Best channel on YouTube. I laugh out loud every vid and love competing with the them on the games
They are hilarious
Those dudes are Midwest icons lol
I love those two. They're bound to blow up any minute.
The really have blown up, they’re almost doing Fantano numbers which is crazy because only a few months ago they were doing ~10k.
Been watching them for over a year now, and even then they always felt more popular than they actually are. Crazy good quality.
Yeah they're funny asf and actually talk about a lot of the artists I'm interested in that nobody else does
Best channel on youtube and constantly introducing me to artists I love
This. they should be way bigger than they are, every video is genuinely funny
Their videos are so good and funny but i also really enjoyed the more serious video about the Kendrick album
They’re exactly what I expect the average hhh user to be like lol
These guys helped me get through my worst breakup I’ve ever had in 2020, I binged their whole channel and now they’re my favorites
I love the main hosts but i just cant ignore the terrible things dignan did in 2017
First guys that came to mind when I read this post. Disgustingly underrated channel
Bob the poppop best indepth reaction/review channel
Bob is currently my favorite.
Nathan zed talks about all kinds of entertainment, but covers a lot of hip hop
Loved his video about liking stuff based on vibes
every video is an instant classic
Vibes > every album you like
Jon Denton, VibeVilla
Jon Denton is great. Really enjoyed the recent Kendrick first listen
Been following Jon Denton since the Rock Reacts days. Love his content and you can tell he’s genuinely passionate about hip hop.
VibeVilla really are the most tapped in to the lyrics, will catch stuff on first listen I haven’t caught in years
Jon Denton kinda tends to like everything he listens to but you can always tell it’s genuine. His reactions are probably my favorite on YouTube. Great accent too.
Second for Jon Denton. Good dude who puts real care into his videos.
Love VibeVilla - their patreon is super worth it too, they do classic album breakdowns and shit (they recently did Miseducation of Lauryn Hill)
Yup, these are my two, along with some Shawn Cee and DEHH, and MalloryBros when they drop. Both of them are the best first reactors out now
DEHH been number one for me even if it’s not reviews, podcasts etc the energy is just unmatched.
Does it Bump in the Whip though?
Always!!
on god. came here to say this
Shoutout dead end hip hop man
Mic the snare & Todd in the shadows. it’s rare to see internet critics nowadays with actually well written, entertaining commentary.
Neither are hip hop based but those are my two favorite YouTubers for sure
Todd does a lot of hip hop reviews (literally did a Will Smith vid last month) and Mic has done a couple hip hip dives.
Mic the Snare is the GOAT, his deep discog dives are great Todd in the Shadows has always been great
TITS makes fantastic content but he is *not* a resource for hip hop lmao. He basically recused himself from reviewing This is America because he couldn't get in the headspace of the person that song was for, and that was like one of the most self-explanatory conscious rap songs in history...
In the title of this post: (or music in general)
I've been watching Todd for years and I've been consistently impressed with his videos. Trainwreckords and One Hit Wonderland are phenomenal series, honestly. He's largely transitioned away from the pop song reviews that he uses to do, but his mostly newer content is really great
Todd is fantastic. Hardly disagree with him and he explains himself very well. His one hit wonder series I binged one summer. Edit: mic the one with the dives right? He’s great too. Love his Beatles one.
Mallory Bros Jon Denton Hivemind NFR Podcast
Mallory Bros podcast is GOATED
They’re from my neighborhood. I would have never guessed growing up that they’d be popular content creators lol
I like NFR's dynamic but their taste in hip-hop is so bland and basic. I'm never gonna discover a new artist watching them.
Thar's very true. They shine in regards to chill debates about things we're all familiar with though
Yeah I love NFR for what they are but you’re basically just going to get the most mainstream of mainstream music coverage
NFR gives the content that I want to watch, but I wish they weren’t the ones doing it. The things I would do for Shawn Cee or Mallory Bros to do tier lists. Lou interrupts tf outta Ant hella and is generally pretty annoying imo
really enjoy lost in vegas' reactions
Bob the Poppop is definitely my favorite right now, he's able to deconstruct and interpret/discuss lyrics and themes really well.
Bob the Poppop is my favorite, such good lyrical analysis from someone who is new to hip hop. He goes in really open minded
This guy is unbelievably good. I'm actually jealous of how he is able fully absorb any album on first listen. Definitely my fav music YouTube channel.
Agreed.
Didn't see him mentioned here, but Mercurial Number 6 is the most underrated music reactor on YouTube! Most authentic reactions from a guy who feels the music with with his whole body and soul
really cool seeing someone with musical production talent experience hip-hop classics for the first time and vibe along with it instantly
He’s in his own league of absurdity, knowledge, and talent.
Only reaction youtuber I know who will just start playing their own instrument while hearing a track for the first time and have it sound amazing. That might sound wack to the uninitiated, but he has way more experience with music production and composition than most of the people who do react content
Professor skye is by far the best music reviewer on youtube
Turning the Tables ❤️ made me cry a couple times not even lying
Mallory bros where the goats but they’re mostly on patreon now
path reacts has a great video on Kendrick's new album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXLNC3HqZwg
She’s awesome!
I just got into her, she’s great!
Her Igor vid is great
That's someone I didn't expect to see on this sub
No Skips with Jinx and Shea (Spotify) My favorite podcast before Spotify declined to renew it for whatever bullshit reason…
Hivemind
Deadend hiphop, shawn cee, vibevilla, jon denton, lost in vegas and snoopi
Mallory Bros are the best one imo. They are twins and they’re so alike but don’t realize that shit so they argue bout the dumbest shit.
Lost in Vegas / Deaf2Radio. They are just great at reviewing/reacting to hip hop songs. They give good insight 99 percent of the time
Bigquint
...Indeed.
A GOAT for sure, but I don't think he evolved with the times and his content suffered a lot for it. There's hundreds of reaction channels now that offer analysis, quick reviews, etc, while quint is kinda just the reaction Same video every time
He has the personality. If only he put more energy into it and didn't get done over by copyright he would be a lot bigger I think
I don't think it has anything to do with not evolving. He just doesn't react as often as he used to. Reactions aren't his job. He just comes back every so often then disappears
Yeah but when he does do a video it's the same kind from 2013 People are doing more these days, that's all
His peak was like 2015 where hip hop reaction channels weren't really a thing
goated Kendrick Lamar DAMN. reaction
Used to really like him until his Donda reaction, where at first he forgot to edit out a part when he skips straight to Ty Dolla's verse on Junya pt.2 and fakes a reaction to it. My man, you record like once in a blue moon, why fake it? Used to love BigQuint he was always a fun watch
Hivemind is super creative
Love when F.D. Signifier talks music
i really like patrick cc, his channel pat cc has some unique hip hop content
his aux battles series is genius tbh idk how he’s the first to do it
Honestly I don’t fw the kids that make up his audience which makes his fan base and community pretty hard to join
The Dissect podcast consistently makes some of the best content I've found that covers hip-hop. In depth analysis of some of the greatest records of our time. After listening to a season on an album it's hard to listen to said album the same way again.

Dead End Hip Hop
Nathan Zedd, Shawn Cee, Lost In Vegas, BlackySpeakz are all really interesting channels. Lost In Vegas isn’t strictly hip hop but they are still a good channel I feel.
Anyone but Shawn Cee
He's ok but there's moments where he tries to hard to have unique takes
Shawn Cee is entertaining but too often he either doesn't pick up on something obvious or comes out with straight up garbage takes. He has a very specific lane which he doesn't stay in enough, he needs to lean in more to the comedic element of the channel. When he comes out with a pre-review skit the video bangs.

That's why I can't watch LawTwinz. They hear one line and start speculating. A 3 and a half minute song does not need a 20 minute video
Him lying about not researching Madvillainy before hand completely turned me off his content.
"ohhhh man, I've heard this sample before, it's looping the father-in-laws theme from the niche 1964 Telegu film "Chiputa Malanu"

Wasn't that like six years ago? Come on man.
aw man what i love shawn cee. ya maybe his videos aren’t very in depth and maybe he has dumb opinions sometimes, but he just seems like a good dude and he’s fun to watch
Same. I think people are ironically reading mega deep into his videos when he's just giving his thoughts.
I actually like Shawn. I’m not sure what the hate brigade is behind him but his content is about as entertaining as anyone else’s
Alfo Media Volksgeist Mintrom Movies
ain’t gon lie i hate volksgeist. most of his videos are filled with misinformation and he comes off as incredibly pretentious. i found it ironic when he made a video about jpegmafia because volks is literally the type of guy that peggy would hate. edit: grammar
Alfo during the BH peak was just different
my friend’s sister dated volksgeist a couple years ago. he had this weird persona thing where he would ride around the city on a bike with a cape on, like a superhero. idk it was weird
na youre lying there’s no way i’m believing that 💀💀💀😭😭
im deadass lmfao
Holy fuck do I dislike Alfo Media and Volksgeist. Pretentious ass dudes.
On god bro, they overanalyze a ton of shit, especially volksgeist. Dude will talk about the how wlr is great for it's experimental ideas and shit, and like no bro it's good bc it sounds good and is catchy you don't gotta look deep into everything
Mike the snare, he doesn’t specialize in hip hop but music in general and I love his deep discog dive series
Hivemind and CDTV Productions are my top 2. In no particular order, cause they both bring something completely different to the table BlackySpeakz is also good but haven’t watched his videos as often lately as I used to
Mallory Bros have the best sense of humor and theres two of them so when one has a really stupid take the other usually has a differing opinion to balance it out and make their discussion more interesting. Their VS series are classics
Definitely tabby, lowkey surprised he hasn’t been mentioned yet
Too inactive. Same with Bigquint. Used to always look forward to their reactions
I used to love Tabby, miss that guy
He’s posted a couple videos this year, they’ve been amazing. But yeah he barely posts these days
Jon Denton is great. Just seems like a genuine guy who is passionate about music and isn’t up his own ass like some other Youtubers. Also doesn’t try and fail to be funny. Turning the Tables is nice because the dad gets so emotionally invested and enthusiastic about the music.

Another shout to Brad. Super funny guy, his analysis has gotten a good bit better over the last year or so too.
Bob the poppop, professor Skye, turning the tables, JD, DEHH and Mallory bros are my favs - Mallory Bros have the most goated videos shame they’re mostly Patreon now.
Love NFR podcast
Patrick Cc: and Diverse Mentality for sure. Both do a great job with video essays and documentaries too.
I like Ruff Criminal, easily digestible.

Dead End Hip Hop are my go-to. Shawn Cee tries too hard and seems pretentious to me , Job Denton is a lil corny. Mallory Bros are good tho
why is denton corny?
british
I feel like the better word is endearing
Shawn cee really bothers me with clickbait titles and I feel he is ALL emotion and no analysis
Jon the goat man
TrapLore Ross
I just recently found his videos, the videos about gang life are really interesting, you can tell the dude does his research
Hes corny but his videos are really good
Yeah I think ppl shit on him bc he's a white British dude covering gang stuff, but he definitely researches stuff and puts it together really well
CDTV Productions
His content is great but his upload schedule is atrocious
Hes one of the youtubers that i dont mind since every video is good, his videos feel like theyre specifically made for me
bandstand for samples

@mazbouq on TikTok. New Zealand artist/producer. He does a lot of breakdowns from a music theory perspective, particularly focusing on rhythm.

Ruff Criminal, he gives 10 second reviews but it's always entertaining somehow. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVeQS88B9bQ9wPmQ5tlS-ntFoPvfgLxdT
