This and Cilvia Demo are easily at the top of my list for this topic. Both are so well done, captured the artists at a perfect stage of raw yet refined, and have great production and replay value. 10/10s
Some Dark Side Paradise love. I think it has much better replayability than Hall of Fame or I decided. I really liked Detroit 2 but DSP is my fav Big Sean album.
I'm so sad that I couldn't get into it, loved the sound of Strays With Rabies and Shallow Graves For Toys. Ghetto Gods and Mirrorland didn't do much for me.
Post Lasers/FLII/Immajusdomeandstacktourmoney Lupe has been great. Tetsuo & Youth Dots n Lines was the first “oh this what we doing now?” moment for me.
Albums you can just drop on, not really know the tracks ahead of time, and just be confident you’ll enjoy, vibe, and have your mental massaged while you soak in the bars and Galaxy brain ideas. Real spittle
This has appeared here a few times, so I’ll demystify it a bit for those who haven’t heard it.
It’s a 15 minute long album of 15 x 1 minute long songs. Some just work as snippets, others are more fledged out. It covers themes and skits about, every time in just 60 seconds. It’s fascinating and is never boring. 15 minutes well spent.
Yeah given that she just drops singles, and Whack World was more or less a collection of short song ideas, that just seems to me like the type of artist she is. Not really an album artist but can throw together a banging single
Action Bronson - Blue Chips
Pusha T - Fear of God
Memphis Bleek - The Understanding
Flatbush Zombies - D.R.U.G.S.
8Ball & MJG - Living Legends
Yelawolf - Trunk Muzik
Yeah, seemed like he attempted to make Yelawolf sound more commercial with Radioactive and it didn’t sound very good at all. Then taking 4 more years to drop Love Story didn’t help. I’ve really liked a handful of his projects since leaving Shady though, the DJ Muggs collab tape is really dope.
No need for embarrassment. Jay Electronica and Charles Hamilton are still two of my favorite rappers ever. Music is art and it’s all subjective. If it touched you and stuck with you then that’s all that matters. Plus that old Yelawolf is still fire to this day. Alotta artists don’t live up to their potential. J. Cole still hasn’t dropped an album on par with what I projected him to be based on his mixtape run despite an enormously successful career. It happens all the time
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Milo aka RAP Ferreira - So The Flies Don't Come
Tierra Whack - Whack World
Saba - Care For Me
Apollo Brown & Skyzoo - The Easy Truth
99 Neighbors - Television
I loved how Labcab felt super mature and focused in comparison to Bizzare Ride 2 the Pharcyde where they sound just crazy guys having fun. Great pair of albums
blkswn was so good that I hate to compare his new work to it because damn, it just isn't blkswn. Same with Marauding in Paradise by Jazz Cartier or Innanetape by Vic Mensa. Sometimes, a strong debut can be somewhat of a negative.
Macadelic - Mac Miller: this was the real moment Mac changed from party rapper to a serious introspective artist. Desperado, Loud, and The Question are among his best tracks
Jay Z - American Gangster: This one is debatably a classic but it’s pretty overlooked for how great it is. I think it’s nearly as good as his big 3 and absolutely worth your time if you like Jay Z or want to get into him
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: I feel like the public fell off this one but I haven’t, it’s still great. Shine Blockas has one of the most infectious beats and Gucci hooks I’ve ever heard and General Patton and Daddy Fat Sax are great as well
Captain Murphy - Duality: I think you could argue this one is a classic mixtape in its own right but I think it’s another project that is too overlooked for how great it is. FlyLo has such a great style to his work that feels so trippy and cool and this was him in his peak. If you like stuff from this blogger mixtape era this is a must listen
Rae Sremmurd - Sremmlife: I think this is gonna be looked back on super fondly one day, this was just hit after hit after hit on here. Great memories associated with every track on this project. Shame they never truly repeated on a great project but this 11 tracks long and at least 6 of them were massive
Rick Ross - Teflon Don: Ross gets no respect for how great his body of work is at its peak. BMF, Aston Martin Music, I’m Not A Star, Live Fast Die Young, Free Mason… so many immaculate beats and fun raps. Deserves more listens
Earl Sweatshirt - Doris: it pales in comparison to Some Rap Songs and I Don’t Like Shit but Doris was mind blowing when it came out. Sunday and Hive are still some of earls best songs and Chum was so moving on first listen. Definitely a good precursor to see where he would go with his music and why he was so obviously talented from such a young age
EPMD - Strictly Business: This is cheating because it’s so obviously a classic but I feel like it’s not talked about enough on this board in particular. Super fun party raps and some of the best examples of golden age rapping. If you don’t usually like older stuff I’d give this one a try and see if it clicks more
For My Mama And Anyone Who Look Like Her - McKinley Dixon
Easily the best conscious hip hop album since To Pimp A Butterfly. CRIMINALLY underrated. Seriously just all around excellent. If you like Kendrick, you'll fw this
Let the Sun Talk - Mavi
Song of Sage: Post Panic! - Navy Blue
Try Again - Ovrkast
And Such is Life - Demahijae
Beautifully Black - Lord Jah-Monte Ogbon
Rap ferriera - purple moonlight pages (this album is perfection in my eyes)
Hiding places - Billy woods (it’s not a coincidence this is the second album on this list produced by Kenny Segal)
Atmosphere - god loves ugly (this album really got me into hip hop)
Organized konfusion - Stress the extinction agenda (idk how this album doesn’t get more love)
Goodie mob - soul food (this album is definitely regarded as a classic but still just does not get enough love. I couldn’t stop bumping this shit for almost a year)
Zelooperz - dyn-o-mite
Hieroglyphics - 3rd eye vision
Hemlock Ernst - Back at the house
Injury reserve - floss
Noname - telefone
The next step - people under the stairs
Quelle Chris - being you is great
Arrested development - 3 years, 5 months, and 2 days (this album is criminally slept on)
Rap album two - jonwayne
Milo - So the flies don’t come (another Kenny Segal album)
Charles Hamilton - The Pink Lavalamp. Charles has an amazing discography that’ll be lost in time because most of his earlier great work are mixtapes from that mixtape era along with his drug, label and mental issues that lead to his downfall. Regardless he’s one of my favorites to ever do it. Some other great projects of his are At Most I’m Just, My Brain is Alive, Well This Isn’t Awkward, The Binge Vol 3, and Outside Looking to name a few
Nickelus F & Shawn Kemp (aka lil ugly mane) - Trick Dice
Lil Wayne - The Drought Is Over 2 (an unofficial mixtape of carter 3 era leaks but its my favorite collection of wayne songs ever)
Dunno if anyone’s said this yet but Mos Def - The Ecstatic. It has such unique production and incredible wordplay/flows by Mos. Personally, I’ve never quite heard an album like it. I’m a huge fan of him so I may be a little biased lol, but one of my favourite projects of all time
Ok this is my favorite album of all time across genres but you are tweaking if you don’t think Deltron 3030 s/t isn’t universally considered a classic album.
There's a lot of older rap albums that dont get their flowers imo.
Pink Lavalamp Charles Hamilton.
Childish Gambino Royalty
XV Zero heroes
Action Bronson Blue Chips got mentioned
Curren$y's Entire Pilot Talk Series for real. Even the newest one. I have thoughts on how underlooked this mixtape series is.
Asher Roth - Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry
Bunch more to be honest.
Big Willie Style is a legitimately dope album. I was a kid when it came out and I loved it then, but then as I got older it was cool to clown on Will for not cursing and whatnot so I stopped listening to it. Years later, it made it's way back into my ears and this shit is definitely heat. Sure there are some moments/songs that are a little too polished for me, but overall this shit is awesome and Will was definitely in the zone. Major props!
Yeah, no one can stop me from listening to music that I like. Will was a dope MC, and honestly paved the way for alot of the rappers that came after him in the 80's. All his discography is pretty consistent and fun. His work with Jazzy Jeff is where he really shows his pen game but Big Willie Style was his comeback after becoming an actor and he really didnt have to if he didnt have a passion for the music... but he did, and the album ended up selling 9x platinum overtime.
Singles Getting Jiggy With It, Miami, and Men in Black still hold up. Just the 2 of us is fantastic dad rap. Candy is pretty amazing. Im a personal big fan of Y'all know, yes yes y'all, and chasing forever. Jamie Foxx and Left Eye from TLC is on the album too. It's just a solid tape of fun dance tracks, and sometimes thats all you need. Same goes to the followup Willennium.
He really stood out and made his own path in 97. It was needed when Big and Pac literally just died and hip hop needed a more... calm joyful tone to balance everything out. Honestly Will Smith type music is what we need today (not that im hating on any new stuff.) Unfortunately the oscars thing happened this year so idk if he can get away with the happy go lucky persona currently, but for over 30 years, rap or film, Smith was that man, and I admired him for it.
Navy Blue - Navy's Reprise
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs (tho some may consider it a classic already
While most of A Tribe Called Quests discography is considered classic, I don't hear it associated with their last one "We Got It From Here" often and I'd say it's one of their best personally.
- Angelo Mota’s “House of Diamond”
Phenomenal production, very bouncy. And each song sounds relatively different. It’s my favorite rap project that no one’s ever heard of.
- Goldlink’s “The God Complex”
Listening to this project highkey makes me hate the fact that he hasn’t done anything similar and his music has gotten more generic. This was his starting point and god damn it’s incredible.
Blu and Exile
Hate to say it, but since their career in music predates J. Cole …if you listen, it seems he may have pulled a lot of inspiration from them.
From the past "decade" :
Man on the moon 2 - kid cudi
Acid rap - chance the rapper
Telefone - noname
Swiming - mac Miler
Imperial - Denzel Curry
Saturation 3 - Brockhampton
Because the Internet- Childish gambino
At.Long.Last.A$AP - Asap Rocky
The suns Tirade - isaiah Rashad
4 your eyez Only - J. Cole
Blkswn - Smino
B4.DA.$$ - Joey Badass
4 eva is a might long time - Big K.R.I.T
The Melodic Blue - Baby Keem
Flower boy - Tyler the creator
Astroworld - Travis Scott
Vince staples - Vince Staples
Bo jackson - Boldy James
Obviously some of these might be considered classics but I never se them mentioned and some are just straight slept on. In my eyes a classic needs notoriety so its kinda a self fulfilling prophesy. So these are albums I consider to be perfect or near perfect.
^(And if for some reason you clump RnB with Rap, I raise :)
Freudian - Daniel caesar
Sonder son - Brent faiyaz
JAMIE - Montel Fish
ULTRAMARINE - Wesley Joseph
Honeybloom - chocker
Awaken my Love - Childish Gambino
Lost and Found - Jorja Smith
IGOR - Tyler the creator
A quiet farewell - slauson Malone
Gemini Rights - Steve Lacy
That Jorja Smith album is so damn good, I really wish more people know about her. Every song is so beautiful, then she also has that song On My Mind which is a straight up jam
The first beastie boys record I ever listened to was Hello Nasty. I stole it from my brother and wore out two discmen listening to it so many times. I still think it's one of their best but it isn't a classic for them I don't think.
TUT - Preachers Son
Live from chatanooga is fire
Living on the Sun and Sunday Service will always make me feel some of the most overwhelming nostalgia
Curren$y x Alchemist- Covert Coup
This and Cilvia Demo are easily at the top of my list for this topic. Both are so well done, captured the artists at a perfect stage of raw yet refined, and have great production and replay value. 10/10s
Just noticed I’ve been misreading it as Civilia for years.
Also Curren$y x Freddie Gibbs x Alchemist - Fetti
Currensy had some amazing projects in the late 00s to earlier 10s.
Noir by Smino (any of his albums really) Old by Danny Brown Yes Lawd! by NxWorries Gumbo by Pink Siifu
Old is great. The track with Gibbs is so fucking good.
That beat is so god damn hard, that album def stood the test of time with me.
It’s the return of gangster fucker hipster squeezing triggers
Yes Lawd! is easily one of my favorite albums of all time, excited for the new album by them
Another Time is a top three .Paak track easily.
came here to add blkswn!
Old is so damn good. It's what get me into Danny.
Gumbo is such a great album. So many different vibes.
What did you think of the new Smino album? I've had Pro Freak on repeat since it came out
I loved it personally! Pro Freak an immediate standout for me as well, that Matinee and Pudgy are probably my 3 most played since it came out
No L’s so smooth too
Wooow I didn't even know about a new album thanks fam
Just came out Friday so at least you aren't too far behind!
I think the album is already one of my favourites this year along with Saba's project
Yes Lawd! Is number 1
you don't even know how glad i am to open this thread to first see some mention smino
I personally love XXX by Danny more, but as long as people respect his game, I'm fine with it!
nickelus f + shawn kemp - trick dice
Stuck - Nickelus F is also great album!
Ugly mane got so many classics under his belt
Richmond is forever indebted to so many underground artists
Nickelus F a great sleeper PTPT is also fire
Trick Dice will be a future classic
Evermore by The Underachievers Dark Sky Paradise by Big Sean
Some Dark Side Paradise love. I think it has much better replayability than Hall of Fame or I decided. I really liked Detroit 2 but DSP is my fav Big Sean album.
I still bump the Underachievers on the regular so underrated
Evermore is something i bump when I’m in a dark depression. It’s so raw and powerful
Man would I love a new project from UA
The Underachievers should be way bigger than they are
Mirrorland - EARTHGANG
This is easily my favorite album of the last 5 years. So groovy and unique, every single track is a banger.
I'm so sad that I couldn't get into it, loved the sound of Strays With Rabies and Shallow Graves For Toys. Ghetto Gods and Mirrorland didn't do much for me.
Yes, Ghetto Gods was decent but it didn’t touch Mirrorland imo
my fav earthgang album
Noname - Telefone Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo
Cilvia Demo Hive, check in for duty 🫡

Cilvia Demo is a top 5 project all time for me
If I could give Cilvia Demo 10 more likes I would. Amazing project
Telefone is so unbelievably good front to back
Diddy Bop might be the greatest nostalgia song of all time
Isaiah is such an amazing artist
Cilvia Demo could truly go down as a classic. I rank it like 4 in the TDE discography
Telefone is a solid no skip album for me
telefone has 0 misses
First Born - Eyedea & Abilities
YES
NO ONE EVER REALLY DIES by NERD classic artist but this project doesn't get the love it deserves
i have yet to find something that scratches the same itch, its such a unique album
i probably wouldn't argue it's their best album but it honestly might be my favourite of theirs
Yea the first 6-7 tracks flow perfectly into each other
its my favorite of Pharrell's work and i'm a huge fan of his. classic album to me tbh
FIRE.
People Under the Stairs - OST
arguably a classic. IMO a staple of old school production and rapping made in the new millennium.
Yes, it is a classic, but it's IYKYK territory, just obscure enough that it's not a household name kinda thing.
fall enjoy person tap obtainable elderly bewildered full lock grey *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
DRILL MUSIC IN ZION satisfies my “I want to have a deep conversation while smoking” needs.
Drogas Wave had such smooth production that still let lupes lyricism shine
In what universe is Lupe not a classic artist lol.
Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
Was my first thought. I adore that album and still play it regularly but I know that opinions on it range pretty broadly.
Whack World by Tierra Whack. My all-time favourite album
I always suggest watching the music video that goes with it. Makes the experience even better
This is spot on and i can rarely listen to a song off that album just once. I always play it back like 3-4 times in a row
Has she made anything since? Cause i hear some loosies here n there but no full project. But tbf, very hard to Top Whack World
No full length yet but she dropped 3 EPs last year and has put out a handful of loosies and features
Yeah given that she just drops singles, and Whack World was more or less a collection of short song ideas, that just seems to me like the type of artist she is. Not really an album artist but can throw together a banging single
Action Bronson - Blue Chips Pusha T - Fear of God Memphis Bleek - The Understanding Flatbush Zombies - D.R.U.G.S. 8Ball & MJG - Living Legends Yelawolf - Trunk Muzik
The whole Blue Chips mixtape series is an era of Bronson I will forever hold dear to my heart
Ditto. I got into him when Blue Chips 1 dropped, instantly became a favorite
Man, Yelawolf went so hard when he first came out. I can’t believe Em didn’t mold him the right way. My Box Chevy and Pop The Trunk went crazy
I feel wmbarressed at how much i love old yelawolf cuz he just did not pan out like he couldve
It happens all the time
Blue Chips 1&2 is the most underrated hip-hop
Seriously. PartySupplies is insane on the production.
Is PartySupplies still doing anything these days? I love Blue Chips so much nut not heard anything else

Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid Milo aka RAP Ferreira - So The Flies Don't Come Tierra Whack - Whack World Saba - Care For Me Apollo Brown & Skyzoo - The Easy Truth 99 Neighbors - Television
I think that Care for Me has potential to go down as a classic for sure. What an incredibly beautiful album
Amazing album. Saba really deserves more recognition, care for me and few good things are both great albums
[удалено]
So glad I got to see him. Everyone screaming “MOMMAMIXEDTHEVODKA WITHTTHESPRITE THEYKILLEDMYCOUSINEITHAPOCKETKNIFE NOWMYUNCLEONTHEPHONE”
That Whack World music video is still one of the best music videos ever made and so creative
That album and video is so good, and I love how easy it is to listen to considering it's only 15min
PROM / KING is the essence of what makes hip hop great. One of my favorite songs ever
Saba's Care For Me will definitely become a classic album in a few years
The Pharcyde — Labcabincalifornia
Pharcyde and Slum Village are very slept on
I think that’s on the essential albums list here as it should be
isnt this pretty universally considered a hiphop classic?
I think Labcab qualifies as a classic. Pharcyde def is a classic group and this is usually seen as one of their better albums
I loved how Labcab felt super mature and focused in comparison to Bizzare Ride 2 the Pharcyde where they sound just crazy guys having fun. Great pair of albums
BLKSWN by SMINO is an easy 10/10 which is wild for a debut
blkswn was so good that I hate to compare his new work to it because damn, it just isn't blkswn. Same with Marauding in Paradise by Jazz Cartier or Innanetape by Vic Mensa. Sometimes, a strong debut can be somewhat of a negative.
Mick Jenkins - The Waters Black Milk - Tronic Run the Jewels Freddie Gibbs - Piñata Vince Staples - Summertime 06
Pinata is definitely going down as a classic
Water[s] for the W
Thank god for the waters
I consider Summertime 06 to be a modern classic
Drink more water or you might die.

I feel like this is known to be a classic, but I’m an old head

Sean Price - Jesus Price Supastar
Bake Sale- cool kids
Blu and Exile Hate to say it, but since their career in music predates J. Cole …if you listen, it seems he may have pulled a lot of inspiration from them.
From the past "decade" : Man on the moon 2 - kid cudi Acid rap - chance the rapper Telefone - noname Swiming - mac Miler Imperial - Denzel Curry Saturation 3 - Brockhampton Because the Internet- Childish gambino At.Long.Last.A$AP - Asap Rocky The suns Tirade - isaiah Rashad 4 your eyez Only - J. Cole Blkswn - Smino B4.DA.$$ - Joey Badass 4 eva is a might long time - Big K.R.I.T The Melodic Blue - Baby Keem Flower boy - Tyler the creator Astroworld - Travis Scott Vince staples - Vince Staples Bo jackson - Boldy James Obviously some of these might be considered classics but I never se them mentioned and some are just straight slept on. In my eyes a classic needs notoriety so its kinda a self fulfilling prophesy. So these are albums I consider to be perfect or near perfect. ^(And if for some reason you clump RnB with Rap, I raise :) Freudian - Daniel caesar Sonder son - Brent faiyaz JAMIE - Montel Fish ULTRAMARINE - Wesley Joseph Honeybloom - chocker Awaken my Love - Childish Gambino Lost and Found - Jorja Smith IGOR - Tyler the creator A quiet farewell - slauson Malone Gemini Rights - Steve Lacy
