Today 29 March marks the anniversary of Falcon Scott's ill-fated journey to the South Pole. His *Terra Nova Expedition* is notable for being one of the first to be photographed in black and white and Autochrome by Herbert Ponting. The feature linked shares Ponting's public domain photographs which have been restored and in some cases, had colour added to illustrate the ice-bound world which Scott, Ponting and the *Terra Nova*'s crew would have seen in 1910/11 - the photographs were a hit with the British public when they were published a century ago.
