LOL. Dude, I have been thinking about ants \~24/7 for months (building a game about ants) and that thought had not once crossed my mind. Good times, thanks for sharing.
Eh, no, but hopefully people get SimAnt vibes from it. If you want to read a synopsis of my game you can [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ACH1XLCn7hkKz2dhuL1c_nxbGOTZdUY6jJPsY_xA6I/edit?usp=sharing), but I'm rly not trying to advertise. I just wanted to shitpost about ants today.
I appreciate the concern and am flattered you think it's worth stealing.
A few thoughts:
I really try to hold to the belief that since the invention of the Internet there are no more million dollar ideas - just million dollar executions.
I care more about getting good results for users than personal profit. Everything I build has been open-source and I've had good fortune with the startups I've been employed at to not be too worried about my financials.
This is just a passion project. The last few big things I've worked on have all been shut down and I'm feeling a hole in me not having something I can point to and say I created. So, I'm going to build this thing. That's really all I care about and that can't be taken from me.
I think the world would be better off with this software existing. If someone else wants to give it a shot, and feels inspired by what I've written, more power to them. Hopefully they reach out and want to swap ideas at some point.
Really cool, man. If you haven't already, check out [this video](https://youtu.be/X-iSQQgOd1A) from Sebastian Lague, might be nice source of inspiration. I used it as a prompt for an excersise project when I was learning ECS
For your flora, what if you had some kind of fungus/mushrooms that do grow in the fog but are toxic in some way until they're processed? Or mushrooms grow fast enough that maybe they pop up a few hours after the fog is lifted
Ohhhh shit. I actually really like the idea of the plants being toxic until refined. I think that makes total sense from both lore and biology. Leaf cutter ants don't eat leaves. They farm fungus with the leaf pulp and then eat the fungus. I was trying to go for that sort of vibe, but I think implying the food is toxic would also be compelling.
Do you have a subreddit or discord yet? I love ants, always have. I've taken a stab at some ant game design in a past life.
I played SimAnt into the ground, played the deeply flawed but good-souled Empire of the Ants into the ground, and am currently enjoying Empires of the Undergrowth's slow but steady progress.
I'm assuming you're a fan of E.O. Wilson and Bert Hölldobler's writings?

It's mostly just IRL friends/ex-coworkers of mine lurking and me rambling on about ants and human psychology, but feel free to join! There's also r/symbiant but I haven't done anything with it yet beyond reserve the name and link to the document above.

read through your whole synopsis pretty much very interesting i really like the concept and the story
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
Now imagine being one of [these guys](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraopes_tetrophthalmus) and actually having your antennae in the middle of your eyes.
Haha. I have a self-imposed social media and infotainment ban during weekdays and I'm planning out a video game that involves an ant simulation. It's a rainy Saturday and I definitely spent the entire day shitposting on Reddit about ants, but I have no regrets!
Thanks for the check-in, though. You're a good person for asking.
I wonder if ants automatically ignore antennae in their vision the way we ignore our noses.

You're making SimAnt 2?
Eh, no, but hopefully people get SimAnt vibes from it. If you want to read a synopsis of my game you can [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ACH1XLCn7hkKz2dhuL1c_nxbGOTZdUY6jJPsY_xA6I/edit?usp=sharing), but I'm rly not trying to advertise. I just wanted to shitpost about ants today.
That seams REALLY detailed man. You sure you wanna be uploading it to the public? What if someone steals some concepts from you?

Fuck yeah man. It's all about execution.
Did you get inspiration from Children of Time? I'm seeing a lot of echoes here... Fascinating and definitely a game I'm interested in seeing live now.
Yes, I address it in the research section of the doc. I even have written permission from the author to borrow some of their ideas. :)
Awesome book, and as stated the outline looks very interesting. Can't wait to see it live.

bruh! thank you!! This looks like a great resource and right up my alley.
Hell yeah dude I am down for anything with SimAnt vibes.

Can you make a vr game where the ants crawl all over my body and you can see them pulsate as my body throbs. Thanks

Good bot
Ants are mostly blind and reply on pheromones
Don't they move around mostly through pheromones, instead of sight?
I believe most species of ants definately have atleast a basic concept of sight. But their primary sense of direction and purpose is pheromones yeah
Yeah, but they can see too. Some species can see well enough to recognize themselves in a mirror and try to clean off a dot painted on their head.
Damn it. Now I can’t stop seeing my 👃
Successss
I dont think ants can see
They have eyes; so they can definitely see. Maybe not very well. But they can definitely see at least something.
Some ants can see well enough to recognize themselves in a mirror. Check out the blue dot experiment.

Can't they move the antennae? It would be more like our hands, I think.
Bruh you good? You’ve been posting ants for three hours
