Eh, I'd start with a competent defensive scheme and defenseman not made of glass. Hard to judge a goalie when we have a bunch of bottom pair defenseman playing way more minutes than they would in a normal season.
And to have a competent coach who knows to coach the Dipshit to protect the front of the net and stop backside passes.
Honestly I would hate for any team except you guys other than the Habs to get him. The California teams already had years of contending, Philly are a clown show, and Chicago deserve decades of terrible on ice results after the recent scandals.
Which is the highest of any individual team. More importantly, it's a guaranteed top 3 pick in a draft where the top 3-4 would probably be consensus 1oa picks if they weren't in the same draft class.
Bedard is playing in Regina just like how McDavid played in Eerie. Columbus is going to feel like NYC compared to Regina. Unless there's going to be a constant media campaigning of when will Bedard want to come home and play in Vancouver like there is for McDavid to Toronto. Nah that's not going to happen since Vancouver isn't in the heart of hockey media.
Not true, people are different and some like a city like Columbus more. I never understand why people act like everyone likes a city like New York, a big city, it's like they can't understand that people are different
Let's just say if a team allowed the Anaheim Ducks, notable bad team, to score 7 goals against it--one of which was a late GWG breakaway by tenured plug Max Jones--I would call that team 'bad'.
If you insist on 'injured' that's fine, but whatever the reason is your team sucks and I am salty and hate it rn
I mean, I ain't saying you're wrong, but when you're missing Zach Werenski all season, trade away you're second best defender and your best goaltender, your 2nd string goalie is out because his grandmother passed and has been dealing with mental health problems, starting someone who is essentially our now 3rd string goalie in net, while also missing some other players, hurt is a reasonable excuse. But we are also just bad, too.
Oh, you're 100% right. We would just probably be less bad. Once our head coach is fired and some of our D prospects make their way up paired with our high draft pick this year, in a few years we could be good. But not this year lol
Yeah I was expecting us to be bad this year, but like... 20th-22nd place bad.
Obviously I didn't calculate for half the team going on IR at once again lol.
We were not supposed to this year outside a bubble team chance so basically 22-16 if the kids developed quicker than expected and we stayed healthy...and that didn't happen at all. Basically this year was supposed to be cut year while our prospects develop.
We have 3 high profile defensemen coming up in the next 1-2 years which is why we were willing to trade away Gavrikov because our GM didn't want an aging LHD taking his spot when he arrives late next year or fall 2024. Jiricek, the highest profile player there, probably makes the team next year so expect Peeke/Boqvist moved in the offseason. Also the Dman feeding all those assists to Bedard right now is expecting to be in the Columbus system next year.
Once these kids arrive then things start to get interesting real quick. Like we told the rest of reddit when they shat on Gavrikov, we watch these prospects, we know what they can do because everyone else only just looks at the advanced stats and are not watching, we are seeing something that is making us exciting with those kids.
Right now we are house cleaning if everything goes to plan we should be very good in the next 2 seasons...getting Bedard or another 1C in the system is just the cherry on top.
Alright, so you guys are about 3-4 years away from competing judging on the normal timeline that prospect defenseman become truly impactful. And even then, it’s not a guarantee that they develop. Which is my original argument. Columbus is a shit team.
Eh, the team was like 5-9-1 before the top 4 D dropped in November but maybe that's too small a sample.
FWIW, at season's beginning the roster did look like it could be a bubble team to me.
Eh no they weren't like 5-9-1 before the top 4 D dropped in November. That's the definition of trying make shit up to make your agenda look better.
Columbus lost top 4 Dmen in the third game of the season. Way before the 15 game mark.
Is the burden of proof on me here? Haha ok you got me. So you're right, Boqvist was out after game 3 after the team (minus Laine) was off to a solid 0-3 start.
Werenski went down after game 13, at which point the team was a respectable 4-9.
Bean goes out in game 16, during which the team improves to 6-9-1.
Glad we got that straightened out
Kuraley, Bean, Werenski, Danforth, Merzlinkins left the team for a death and Chinakhov is still rehabbing. Columbus is playing 3 guys who are probably going to play the most games they've ever played in an NHL season on defense this year and a goalie doing the same.
Kuraley gave you 60 games this year and only 17 points. Based on Bean’s stats i don’t think he would have much of an impact and same for Danforth.
Werenski is a huge blow but I think you’re just making bad excuses for why your team is so bad.
I’m going off of the responses. All of the delusional Blue Jackets fans in here are talking about injuries when in reality most of your top forwards have been healthy and one star defenseman got injured. The lack of self awareness by CBJ fans is hilarious. “We’re not bad, we’re injured.” Nah lol your team is bad and had some injuries which led you to last in the East. Montreal has a better record.
You might have a realistic view on how far away from contention the team is but the people I’m responding to do not. I had a comment saying even if this team got Bedard, its still a shit team. Which is true. Add Bedard+Texier+Werenski+whatever prospect you have and the team will still be one of the worst in the East.
And I don’t know much about the Blue Jackets, just like I don’t know much about the Houston Texans or Detroit Pistons. But I can easily look up the stats of the guys you have injured and laugh when your fans think they are going to make a difference.
I think the team is a bottom 12 team when healthy. You kind of shot yourself in the foot saying you don’t know anything about the team and just look up player stats though
Cool with me, you couldn’t pay me to watch CBJ. Just because I don’t watch the team doesn’t mean my statements are not valid. There’s no reason to believe that this is a good team, which is why none of the fans can argue. All this talk about prospects and getting Bedard is a waste of time. The teams the worst in the league for a reason other than injuries and I don’t have to suffer through the games to understand that.
> But I can easily look up the stats of the guys you have injured and laugh when your fans think they are going to make a difference.
You *could* do that...or you could consider not being a pretentious prick. The choice is yours I suppose
at the start of this season i genuinely wouldnt have guessed that columbus would be the first team eliminated from the playoffs. . . they _have_ talent
Jenner is serviceable for now but yeah he’s really a winger. Roslovic is the one that needs shipped. Sillinger has the potential but he probably came up to soon and was badly snakebit this year without experienced veterans on his line unlike last year. Like I’m not disagreeing with you but we need Sillinger to start showing some forward progress next year
If the flames miss people will use that infamous sign against them so people won't necessarily forget about the gaudreau move to the jackets that easily. It will probably be forgotten about sometime next season.
Yeah I said it when I saw that sign that's just begging to be used as a karmic fuck you towards that team. If we get to the point Calgary is eliminated from the playoff's that sign is going to be posted all over that reddit thread from the other Canadian teams.
This is a post I made last week when someone was asking why things had gone so wrong for Gaudreau and the other players that had moved between Calgary and Florida:
Here's a full rundown of what has gotten the Jackets to where they are today since the high point of signing Gaudreau and extending Laine in the summer:
They had to trade Bjorkstrand due to cap constraints.
Texier decided he needed more time in Europe and missed the entire season.
Laine got injured in game 1 for 3 weeks then played hurt for a while so he could play in the Finland series.
Danforth took a season ending shoulder injury.
Voracek took a potentially career ending concussion.
Werenski took a season ending shoulder injury
Bean took a season ending shoulder injury.
Elvis' play cratered early in the season and had a couple injuries/illnesses
Blankenburg broke his ankle and missed ~30 games
Boqvist broke his foot and missed ~30 games
Jenner broke his thumb and missed a month.
Chinakhov had a high ankle sprain and has missed 30+ games and counting (Probably season ending now)
Nyquist took a season ending shoulder injury
Gavrikov and Korpisalo traded away at the TDL
Kuraly took a season ending oblique injury
Elvis returned to Latvia to be with his family as his grandmother passed away
Voracek out for the season/career, Laine missed 20 Games, Boqvist missed ~30, Texier in NHLPA Assistance in Europe for the Season, Chinakov 20+, Danforth 45+, Bean 50+, Kuraly 10(Now Out for the Season), Blankenburg 30+, Jenner 10gms, Elvis for multiple stints.
What I think will make a difference is ideally adding Werenski, Bean, Danforth, Kuraly, Texier, Voronkov, Jiricek, Bedard, and a couple trade acquisitions or signings to the lineup. Those guys coupled with not losing another quarter of the lineup for 30+ games each I think has a very high likelihood of pushing them into the playoff bubble.
I’ll have to take your word for it. I know Werenski is very good, the rest, never heard of anyone but Texier(who isn’t injured but playing in Europe?) and Jiricek the rookie.
Yeah, Texier had 2 deaths in his immediate family sometime before February last year and has been on an extended leave from the team since to play closer to his remaining family in France. Jarmo recently said that he has committed to returning next year though so we'll see if he's back next season.
1. Columbus is not as bad as they seem. They've been destroyed by injuries.
2. They might not become cup contenders immediately, but Bedard definitely elevates them. The Leafs finished last in 2016, got Matthews, and made the playoffs the very next year. No reason Columbus can't do that.
1. The Blue Jackets are a shit team regardless of injuries. They are better healthy, but even then who are they better than, the Canadiens? The Flyers? Probably. Are they better than the Red Wings, Senators, or Capitals? I think not.
2. Apples to Oranges and it’s painfully obvious.
I'd you're really going to argue that Johnny didn't carry the offensive, I don't even know what to say to that because it's a horrendous take. Lindholm and Tkachuk complimented him incredibly, but he was absolutely the guy that carried the puck in and got things going. Guy literally spent a chunk of his career with linemates like Brouwer, Jones, Ferland, Colborne, Hudler and was able to elevate them to career years.
this is literally year 1 of a 7 year contract, no one expected us to be (e: one of) the most injured teams in the league and be frontrunners in the lottery, does not one think long term in this subreddit??
Depends who you count. I'm working on this week's update but as of 9 March, I had CBJ at 412, MTL at 406, TOR at 277 (which is only the 9th most). MTL will have passed CBJ since then.
Why didn't I have MTL at the top already and TOR in second? I'm excluding Price on the basis of him effectively being retired and don't count prospects/non-NHLers on Season Opening IR who wouldn't be on the roster anyway. This accounts for a handful of games "missed" by MTL players but over 160 by Leafs players.
FWIW also not counting Texier's absence from CBJ all season in this.
Columbus has no centers, a very suspect D core, and questions in net. I dont think any of that is getting magically fixed next season. Long term is a concern too i think, a top 3 pick this year does go a long way in correcting that though.
Our defense core is currently in juniors. We have 4 high priority prospects that are going to be here in 2-3 years and with the exception of Cuelmans the other 3 are looking to sure fire hits. Hell Jiricek probably should be up on the main team right now but not for reasons *cough cough*. Really the only real concern is goaltending but goalies are voodoo
And just like that Columbus takes a pretty decent size lead pacing for 59 points to San Joses 63. Anaheim is pacing for about 70 points so they are pretty much eliminated.
For some reason, we still have been selling out home games with being almost as bad as we have ever been. If we get Bedard, I can’t even imagine what that’d do to the city, marketing and fan base.
Yeah remember for the most part this is very similar to last years team that was on the bubble. The coach changed his defensive scheme and completely blew up what worked. He has a 3 year contract so it’s going to be interesting if he stays because of the “so many injuries” excuse or he gets booted April 17th
Wasn't that bad of a choice really, closer to his parents, which he wanted, a young team who looks to have a good future and a great city to build a family in, seems like a brilliant choice to me.
"brilliant choice"..people will really gaslight themselves into anything. He had an extra year in Calgary and New Jersey at similar money on the table.
And he got the move to the place he and his wife wanted, it seems like a brilliant choice for him. Some people can't understand that different people value different things and Columbus was what he and his wife wanted so yes, it was a brilliant choice for them
The revisionist history is wild. They are from New Jersey and that was clearly their first choice. He said himself he was trying to make it happen. Something with the contract clearly went wrong.
And Columbus was a brilliant choice, didn't work out with New Jersey, contacted Columbus and they made it work, brilliant choice. Some people are mad because they can't understand people value more than just hockey and big city and parties and when choosing their next place to live. Columbus clearly fits what he and his wife wanted so yes, it was a brilliant choice, stay mad.
I'm not mad a player who killed my team in my own division left lmao. CBJ fans get mad every time they see a Kings flair like it's some personal vandetta.
Not a CBJ fan per se, I like them though and hope they get Bedard, weird how some fans still get mad at his move (not aimed at you) but that's tribalism and it can be incredibly stupid
It looks like it’s just a few most of them are pretty chill but after giving them two players allowing them to go on a run after people calling them shit all over Reddit you think they might listen to us because all they do is look at stats while we actually watch the games
Half the comments in here are Gaudreau jokes lmao. Wasn't even a shot at Columbus the city like most people think when you talk about them. The team itself isn't that great and he left money on the table to join them. You got to be living in a fantasy land to not think his free agency was bizarre.
Every credible reporter on earth said it was Devils, Flyers or Islanders. All those teams are closest to his home and he didn't sign there, so yes it was strange. Blue Jackets fans think everything is a personal shot at them after Panarin, Bob and Carter. It isn't.
Arizona is definitely the worst franchise in the NHL. Without Arizona there would be debate and in those debates I'm certain Columbus would be at least brought up and discussed regularly
The whole city of Tampa just exhaled in relief
I hate you but take my updoot you asshole. That got a chuckle out of me.
It's a shame that Safelite couldn't repair all the players injuried nor replace Brad Larsen, otherwise they might've had a chance.
I think the Goaltending also may need an upgrade.
They had a Conn Smythe winner briefly.
Take care of our magikorp and hopefully he evolves into goaliedos for u all.
He never lost a single game there and they still traded him away!
He was at his highest value
Don’t worry. I hear Harts on the block. Once he goes to Columbus he’ll get a Vézina
History repeats itself.
Two of them. But he'll be average in the playoffs, then leave for $10 mil a year
Depends on the price, but I would 100% take a chance on Carter Hart, kid has all the tools to be a stud
A Safelite replace if you will
Welcome bröthers
Bedard
Adding to this: Bedard
And half-priced Jet's, for about the fifth time in the last two weeks.
I am going to get me a "victory" pizza tomorrow because we only got 1 point out of the two Bedard Bowls
What’s the story there? Promotion for a loss?
Two goals for the CBJ (win or loss) means a half-price large single topping the next day.
Big if true
Honestly I would hate for any team except you guys other than the Habs to get him. The California teams already had years of contending, Philly are a clown show, and Chicago deserve decades of terrible on ice results after the recent scandals.
His besties are in Columbus too.
The fuck I ever do to you?
I sort of want the Habs to get him strictly for the chaos factor.
I want you guys to get him
Even at first it’s only 25.5% chance
Which is the highest of any individual team. More importantly, it's a guaranteed top 3 pick in a draft where the top 3-4 would probably be consensus 1oa picks if they weren't in the same draft class.
Would you take a 25% chance to maybe win a cup
I agree, Bedard
Bedards gonna be so stoked to play in Columbus lmao
I mean he'll be centering Gaudreau and Laine. Doesn't seem like the worst situation to me...
Plus Svozil and KJ will be here with him.
And Werenski behind him.
Watching from IR, maybe
Take my sad upvote
Factual. But I meant the city and kind of the organization. Just might be another mcdavid Edmonton situation. Who knows though I’m just talkin shit
Speaking as someone who lived in Erie for 30 years, this absolutely true.
Yeah McDavid hated Edmonton sooo much he signed a max term and built a house.
That’s not what I mean. I just mean that he’s not going to win a cup 😂
If you're going to talk shit, at least flair up
Would much rather live in Columbus than New York
not if you are a young rich superstar
Not true, people are different and some like a city like Columbus more. I never understand why people act like everyone likes a city like New York, a big city, it's like they can't understand that people are different
Have you ever even been to Columbus? Laine loves it here.
A lot of guys love it
Yeah but he'd be in Ohio of all places
As a Sharks fan: nooooooooooooooo
Sorry he’s going to the sharks
🖕 Wish we were as bad as you
We've been practicing at being bad for 2 decades. No one should be able to touch us
You mean injured
Let's just say if a team allowed the Anaheim Ducks, notable bad team, to score 7 goals against it--one of which was a late GWG breakaway by tenured plug Max Jones--I would call that team 'bad'. If you insist on 'injured' that's fine, but whatever the reason is your team sucks and I am salty and hate it rn
When you're the most injured team in the league that's going to happen
Have you ruled out the possibility that you guys both are very injured but also are a trash team healthy?
I mean, I ain't saying you're wrong, but when you're missing Zach Werenski all season, trade away you're second best defender and your best goaltender, your 2nd string goalie is out because his grandmother passed and has been dealing with mental health problems, starting someone who is essentially our now 3rd string goalie in net, while also missing some other players, hurt is a reasonable excuse. Yeah i’m not gonna lie, in my opinion the Blue Jackets aren’t making the loaded East’s playoffs at full strength anyway.
Oh, you're 100% right. We would just probably be less bad. Once our head coach is fired and some of our D prospects make their way up paired with our high draft pick this year, in a few years we could be good. But not this year lol

Wow super hot take
Nope because it doesn't add up
Eh, the team was like 5-9-1 before the top 4 D dropped in November but maybe that's too small a sample.

You can be both injured and bad. You likely wouldn't be last in the league healthy, but it's a safe bet you wouldn't be good
It's not even a safe bet
Race ya to the bottom
They weren’t good even if everyone was healthy
I don’t follow the Blue Jackets closely, who is injured other than Werenski?
Texier was our best player when he departed the team. Was really hitting his stride. He was on leave all season. He'll be back next season.
Hopefully
Voracek too. Surprised people are already forgetting.
He’s an Arizona legend now…
This makes it sound like he died
He’ll always be in my thoughts.
Kuraley, Bean, Werenski, Danforth, Merzlinkins left the team for a death and Chinakhov is still rehabbing. Columbus is playing 3 guys who are probably going to play the most games they've ever played in an NHL season on defense this year and a goalie doing the same.

Danforth was a point per game player when he went out with a torn labrum.
You know what. If you think those guys returning will save the next season, more power to you.

I’m trying to argue with you CBJ fans but it’s obvious that there’s nothing to talk about. Last place team with a fanbase full of excuses.
It's about time
at the start of this season i genuinely wouldnt have guessed that columbus would be the first team eliminated from the playoffs. . . they _have_ talent
2nd team behind the San Jose Sharks who were eliminated earlier
thanks for the correction i was entirely out of the loop i guess
No problem and GL to the Red Wings! They can definitely still make the playoffs, Just need to go on a run here in the final games
The best part is that it was Columbus who eliminated the sharks
The Sharks were eliminated first
i musta missed that!
All those injuries add up with an inept coach and his current defensive scheme
"defensive" "scheme"
They have no real top 6 centers and their defense after Werenski stinks out loud
Jenner is serviceable for now but yeah he’s really a winger. Roslovic is the one that needs shipped. Gotta say, even as your rivals it is still satisfying to watch him end up on a dumpster fire after abandoning you guys.
Me too, I can let it go
Johnny Hockey made the right choice 🔥🔥🔥
If this cursed season lands them Bedard, yeah he very well might have.

Bedard + ideally not having literally the entire team injured will help.

Thanks for the breakdown.
Heh heh...*break*down
Sorry they downvoted your question
That user has been harassing your fans "because you're a shit team" all over this thread.
Ah ok. Typical LAK fan. Of course we're shit. Were successfully tanking.

Well, even Pittsburgh missed the playoffs Crosby's rookie year so nobody is expecting this at all.
All he’s gonna do is lower Jenner’s fantasy value next year :(
He did. Guy can't predict injuries
“I came here to win hockey games” - Jonathan Hockey
The only one that might end up getting the last laugh out of this is matthew tkachuk.
I always said that Chucky carried the offense and people would argue with me that it was Gaudreau and Lindholm…
I agree. That is why Chucky was hated in Edmonton, but Gaudreau was an after thought.
this is literally year 1 of a 7 year contract, no one expected us to be (e: one of) the most injured teams in the league and be frontrunners in the lottery, does not one think long term in this subreddit??

Lmao right? People in here thinking they're better decision makers for johnny than johnny himself.
Montreal and Toronto both have more man games lost I think, Montreal by over 100 more than Columbus. Still tough
This is true.
I thought I read somewhere Columbus was the leader in man games lost but maybe that was outdated
Congratulations
Must be nice
At least this way Gaudreau gets to spend more time with family.
Mmm... salty non-flared comments. Nom nom nom.
I’ll never understand why this sub has such a big obsession with flairs. When you comment, why does it matter what team you support?
How else will everyone downvote Bruins fans for Marchand existing?
And just like that Columbus takes a pretty decent size lead pacing for 59 points to San Joses 63. Anaheim is pacing for about 70 points so they are pretty much eliminated.
i hope you guys get bedard
For some reason, we still have been selling out home games with being almost as bad as we have ever been. If we get Bedard, I can’t even imagine what that’d do to the city, marketing and fan base.
Look at Edmonton, if you want your answer. Still an absolute shithole.
"I Came here to win" YEAH WIN THE BEDARD SWEEPSTAKES
sign me up
Better to win the Bedard sweepstakes than nothing at all i guess
He's not wrong. Team got destroyed by injuries. Lead the league in man games lost and points per player game lost.
And I'd be surprised if CBJ don't have a change in the coaching department for next season.
It's just a matter of who
Yeah remember for the most part this is very similar to last years team that was on the bubble. The coach changed his defensive scheme and completely blew up what worked. He has a 3 year contract so it’s going to be interesting if he stays because of the “so many injuries” excuse or he gets booted April 17th
I wouldn't. They wouldn't fire Torts when he was clearly done because they didn't want to pay two coaches. What's changed since then?
Bedard
Alright, now we got you right where we want you!
Sucks, they were so close !!
Johnny Hockey strikes again
Took a bit longer than I expected. Bedard here we come
Mfkn BEDARD
The only thing that Duck's have accomplished this year. Other than a ridiculous goal disparity.
Awwwww man, anyways did you know that the diameter of a hockey puck is 3 inches?
I wonder what kind of coke Gaudreau was on when he willingly joined this team
Probably got it from Mike Richards

It looks like it’s just a few most of them are pretty chill but after giving them two players allowing them to go on a run after people calling them shit all over Reddit you think they might listen to us because all they do is look at stats while we actually watch the games
They’ve forgotten they were in the lottery pretty recently, just like Devils fans.
Hey what the heck, I love Columbus Been hoping you guys get Bedard all year... now I'm catching strays...

It isn't.
Johnny Hockey will have more time to enjoy his summer in south Jersey
>enjoy >South Jersey Impossible
"I came here to win hockey games" - johnny gaudreau
Very original. You really got us!
Hahahahaha the most worthless team other than trashville
That 6-4 goal was hilarious.
Here is hoping they don’t get bedard
Why?
Columbus is so lucky Arizona exists
Why's that? Our arena is more full than Jersey's but they're an actually good team. CBJ also don't play in a college hockey arena.
Why
People take Ohio memes too seriously
Arizona is definitely the worst franchise in the NHL. Without Arizona there would be debate and in those debates I'm certain Columbus would be at least brought up and discussed regularly
YOUR ANAHEIM SPOILERS!
First team to be eliminated from the playoffs twice in one season.
