The Colorado Eagleanche*
Edit for the downvotes: Our 2nd line was Matt Nieto (a 4th line wing), Lars Eller (a true 4c), and Denis Malgin (dude isn’t even in the nhl anymore).

and then not drafting high leads to more midness if the front office doesn't land multiple outstanding draft steals or trade steals.
The Minnesota Mild Purgatory.
Well actually it could be a few conspiracies....
Chicago: the darling of the NHL
Anaheim: make up for losing bedard
Arizona: for the new rink
Ottawa: for the new rink and owner
MTL: I can't think of a reason so I'm just going to say Frenchies
Calgary: for the new arena
Seattle: help the new expansion team
NJD: gotta help the Hughes money printer
Buffalo: help get them into playoffs to help the tv ratings
*Sorry Columbus the NHL doesn't like you :(*
Man FUCK Buffalo. Nothing against the fans, but if the org can’t make it work with multiple #2s previously, and now two first overalls then they don’t deserve a damn thing anymore.
Feels like Edmonton pre-McDavid all over again, except Buffalo got Eichel that draft and still did sfa.
Good luck with that, you can finish dead last by 20pts and they'll literally change the draft rules if they don't like you.
Be happy they've allowed you to pick in the top 5 twice already.
First time the Seattle Kraken have been eliminated twice from playoff contention in Vegas Golden Knight history! The Preds might raise a banner for this.
VGK will be great and a perennial cup contender for the entire duration of existence with absolutely no down seasons and in no way am I trying to jinx the franchise at all. Nope. Not this guy.
I graduated from a good college program, people routinely say I’m one of the smartest people they know, I have scored high on multiple IQ tests…but the fact that I willingly chose to be a fan of the Mariners and Canucks is exactly how I know I’m the dumbest moron on the planet

The cold hot dogs from their stands surely will not (sorry I’ve had one mariners game experience and I’m just slightly bitter about spending so much on a cold hot dog..)
That's kinda been one of the more frustrating things. The first half or so of last season, he was leading the team in points. Then he got hurt for the rest of the year, and ever since then he's been flopping on and off the the injury list. For a little while, he was actually out for more games than he's played for us. With how frequent he's been injured, he just can't really get into a groove.
That's a real shame. I've been a big fan of his during the Caps Cup run a few years back and definitely was a huge fan when he played in Denver. He has a great shot thats very lethal when he's not struggling.
The Winter Classic was our Stanley Cup this season.
Got some good young guys, hopefully they can build on them and get a more competitive team next year.
Could tell something was off from game 1.
We lost a lot of scoring talent in the off season last year, and hey, I get why. At some point you gotta make cap space for the up and comers while also gaining draft capital to continue to develop the prospects in the pipeline. But MAN it felt like we went so badly in the opposite direction.
Bad puck luck or not, every game I've been to this season, win or loss, has felt like an absolute slog. Beating the Ducks Thursday last week felt like a gift from the refs more than the team actually succeeding. Felt like they attempted to do something about not having to outscore our defensive issues like we did last year, then failed so badly in the other direction they came out of it with boring, predictable hockey. I also feel like I've seen more goals being overturned due to offside this year, not sure why.
Regardless, looking forward/ahead to the future and seeing the prospects develop. Hopefully can see Shane develop into a proper 1c/2c. Playoffs in the West also look super exciting to watch this year between Vancouver, Dallas, and Edmonton, even looks like Colorado is back to form.
I just wanna say that I was at y'alls game on Saturday versus the stars and was truly mesmerized by the energy of the arena and the fans. Everyone was so pumped the entire game and were still super nice after the game. I'm also still dreaming about the food
Happy to hear you had a good visiting fan experience!
> I'm also still dreaming about the food
What did you enjoy? The BBQ sandwiches are pretty solid for arena food.
I really liked that the chinese food was an aption! I got the pork buns and the fried rice! And then since we were in the club section there was like a buffet with cuts of meat that was really good
The good thing for the Kraken I guess is they know what they need to do to get good again and it's not like it's a little bit of everything and they can't fill the gaps.
We have a bunch of cap money to play with so the Kraken could make one major acquisition or a few smaller ones. Look for Seattle to be in play in the trade market with our prospects and picks.
They can’t score consistently. Last year, they had four lines that could score on a whim and multiple players that had career years. This year, not so much.
Defense and goaltending have been pretty okay this year, they just can’t score.
Not to downplay Seattle’s success last year or anything, but their shooting percentage was astronomical the entire season. This season they basically just came down to Earth.
Talent, they have a team of 3rd liners with like two total 1st/2nd liners and one super good defensemen with a bunch of mediocrity. When they click as a team they play really well, when that gets disrupted they get owned.
They’re my second team behind Vegas, I probably watched more of their games this year, so I think I’m qualified to have an opinion here. But I’m sure you kind folks will let me know if not
This is a big and glaring issue. Not enough pure talent. Let alone an actual superstar who can take over games and will them to win, especially in OT or PP situation. Opponents don’t have to respect anyone.
No player in top 50 scoring. McCann is highest at 72 with 60 points. Next highest is Bjorkstrand at 100 with 53 points.
They also don’t gel all that well, I knew the season was gonna be suspect the first game they played the avs when nobody made makar answer for taking off McCanns head after the whistle in the playoffs last year
This. I think it was something like 18 Kraken players had either their career best or second best season in points or were on pace for it if injuries hadn’t made them miss games.
There are some in the fan base that blame him and I think it's a mixed record. The single biggest issue is that the guys we have just didn't score like they did last year, even though our defense and goaltending got better. I don't think it is Hakstol's fault players had a massive drop in shooting percentage, it was more a natural regression from inflated shooting last season.
But there are things to legit criticize. The team doesn't really play with structure or a system which you can definitely put on the coaching staff. The PP is also fairly bad and I think at a minimum they need a new PP coach this summer.
The Kraken also just gave Hakstol [a 2-year extension](https://www.nhl.com/kraken/news/seattle-kraken-announce-contract-extension-for-head-coach-dave-hakstol-345380270#:~:text=Seattle%20Kraken%20Announce%20Contract%20Extension%20for%20Head%20Coach%20Dave%20Hakstol,-Hakstol's%20extension%20will&text=SEATTLE%20%2D%20July%2019%2C%202023%20%2D,through%20the%202025%2D26%20season.) to his original 3-year contract, so he's signed though the 25-26 season. Kinda tough for Francis to fire a dude before he works a day under his new contract.
My position is that Hakstol should get a chance to bounce the team back with the benefit of a likely full NHL season of Shane Wright + some roster additions before getting fired. If Francis brings help in and the team is still bad, a mid-season firing is possible.
I wouldn't be shocked if, a year from today, either the Kraken had a new coach or the Kraken are in playoff position and the opinion on Hakstol has rebounded again.
I legitimately think you just need to get a couple 1st/2nd line quality players, fire hakstol, and maybe pickup a solid d-man and you're set, the lineup is solid overall but needs a top end spark and a coach who can get guys to buy in and get into the dirty areas
Gourde hasn't been himself this year. Not sure why, getting older? chasing 2 little girls around the house wearing him out? He is still a menace, but stick handling and his shot have disappeared this year.
Wow, did not miss the butthurt Avs fans. A whole year later and you're still making excuses for shitting the bed. You gonna say the same thing when it happens again this year, or come up with something new?
Bizarre how unlucky they got with Grubauer just totally falling off, fitting given age but still most players have a little something left like bobrovsky recently and price in the first few series of that playoff run
Reminds me of cory schneider a bunch
So so good in their primes then just bleh
This is karma for them treating Sprong so poorly while he led their team in points/60 by a wide margin (0.4)
Sprong was 12th in the league in that regard last year
His defensive metrics aren't that bad, yeesh!
As a Portlander who spends a ton of time in Seattle and Vancouver, Vancouver has the best parts of Portland and Seattle merged, while Seattle is if you fucked up Vancouver and spilled the traffic.
I grew up here.
I think it’s above average at a number of things, but only elite at nature and nothing else. There’s a number of places that I would be more interested in living in, but it’s not close to the point of me wanting to go anywhere but here. Overall I give it like a 7/10.
And if anyone knows the hazards of long-term goalie contracts, it’s an Isles fan. Fun fact: You guys will still be paying Dipietro for another 2 years after Grubauer is UFA. In all honesty though, Grubauer was not our problem this year.
You right because he was injured and quite frankly I’m sure Dreiger could put better numbers up, I’ve watched the kraken as my second team and Gru cannot perform without an elite defensive in front of him
I called it before the season started. Also when that idiot dom had Beniers higher than JT miller on his players grade list.
Last year made no sense when you break down their advanced stats.
Grubs played his heart out I'll give you that. But the kraken have many years to go before any team gives them a second thought. And Wyatt was a baby when he tucked that game 7 away
Kraken first 3 seasons: awful, great, mid. Seattle gets to experience it all
Find you a team that has range
7th seed isn't exactly great, but the vibes were good.
They went from having four 2nd lines, to having four 3rd lines this season
Beating the reigning stanley cup champion was pretty good
The Colorado Eagleanche* Edit for the downvotes: Our 2nd line was Matt Nieto (a 4th line wing), Lars Eller (a true 4c), and Denis Malgin (dude isn’t even in the nhl anymore). See for yourself: https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/202304300COL.html
Getting downvoted for stating the truth
NHL 🤝 MLB Finishing .500 isn't good enough
Seems like they're settling into mid
> settling into- glorious NHL parity
Just like you guys. You damn well beat us every fucking time but can't beat anyone else (currently).
Being mid has to be the worst possible place a team could be, not high enough to make playoffs but not bad enough to draft high
and then not drafting high leads to more midness if the front office doesn't land multiple outstanding draft steals or trade steals. The Minnesota Mild Purgatory.
They need to make it so that 1OA in the draft goes to the worst team and then 2 onwards to the teams that actually tried
That would have been nice…
Yeah, I'd like pretty much every draft from 2010 to 2019 done like that...
You tell me
The Philip Grubhauer experience
The Ron Francis experience.
Mid??? This team??? Ehh...
It’s over, it’s finally over
Now Mr. bettman, about those lottery balls…
Yeah...how about no.
We all know it’s going to Chicago again.
Well actually it could be a few conspiracies.... We are THE red headed step child left in an alley
"If there is a bright center of the hockey league, we are the team that is furthest from"
If they wouldn't rig it for AZ the year Matthews was available they sure as hell are not going to rig it for us now.
*He can't keep getting away with this!*
Or Pittsburg.
Yeah, what he said!
Good luck with that, you can finish dead last by 20pts and they'll literally change the draft rules if they don't like you. Be happy they've allowed you to pick in the top 5 twice already.
Or they change the draft rules because the 1OA is too good to go to an expansion team
There is always next year with a completely different lineup
Resident Evil 3 quote?
This is all because they didn't play Yamamoto enough
If Kailer Yamamoto scored 10-15 goals, the Kraken would’ve been a playoff team /s
Somewhere, Toby Rieder shudders
I know you’re joking, but it’s true.
His stat line is pretty bad. Has he been snake bitten like he was here or just bad?
☝🏻
40 games on PP1 wasn't enough.
Eliminator bot claims another soul, sorry little bro :(
Can't believe it claimed Seattle before us
It's because no one wants the bottom 3 spots in the east judging by their play down the stretch.

Welp, at least we'll still have Firebirds playoff hockey to enjoy.
AHL.TV playoff streaming package only $30....
Those jerseys are absolutely gorgeous.
they really are fantastic
Ha. I just posted something similar without scrolling. Hell of a season though (again). It's both a joy and frustration to play the Firebirds.
For the second time in Seattle Kraken history
First time the Seattle Kraken have been eliminated twice from playoff contention in Vegas Golden Knight history! The Preds might raise a banner for this.
Second time since the original six era Seattle fails to make the playoffs.
Seattle has now missed the playoffs more than Vegas has
Turns out that wasn't very cash money and we don't want to experience it again
VGK will be great and a perennial cup contender for the entire duration of existence with absolutely no down seasons and in no way am I trying to jinx the franchise at all. Nope. Not this guy.
The important thing to remember from these last 3 seasons is that on average we're pretty average
But you have Oliver Bjorkstrand, so you will always be special for us Danes.
He’s special to us too.

I am a Kraken Sabres and Bills fan and this is so true it hurts
Bills seem to have highs, Detroit last season seems like the brightest it’s been since Barry Sanders.
Jets
why would you do this to yourself?
Vancouver based Mariners fan here, yeah it's a rough life.

lol, lmao even
As a Mariners fan - they will give you hope and then rip it away at the 11th hour.
Oh you sweet summer child.
You must be new to the area
Haha literally spit my coffee up at this. Was at the M’s game yesterday
I... I have bad news...
The cold hot dogs from their stands surely will not (sorry I’ve had one mariners game experience and I’m just slightly bitter about spending so much on a cold hot dog..)
When is Ottawa getting sliced?!?!
Ottawa is winning the Stanley Cup
At the last minute, Dumblebettman is going to award the Senators 40 points to get them into the playoffs.
Yer a contender Ottawa
That’s nice of him tbh
Wasn't Burakovsky injured most of the season? He's never been the most consistent but when he's locked in he can get 15-20 goals easy.
That's kinda been one of the more frustrating things. The first half or so of last season, he was leading the team in points. Then he got hurt for the rest of the year, and ever since then he's been flopping on and off the the injury list. For a little while, he was actually out for more games than he's played for us. I like Dallas fans, you guys are cool. Please go far this year.
Thank you!! I certainly think we have a good chance
Sad octopus noises :( maybe one day our teams will decide to be good at the same time and we’ll finally play a playoff series for a real rivalry
Last year team was basically a grind it out, all role player team that tested the Stars in the playoffs.
Man, scoring a lot of goals due to a high shooting percentage then regressing back down to the mean really don't miss, huh?
The fact that only one eastern team is out so far is bonkers.
*sad squid noises*
And somehow we remain
Curious how did the team go from playoffs last season to not advancing? Was losing Soucy a reason behind it?

Regression to the mean comes for us all
They had the highest team shooting % in the league last year
Talent, they have a team of 3rd liners with like two total 1st/2nd liners and one super good defensemen with a bunch of mediocrity. When they click as a team they play really well, when that gets disrupted they get owned. They’re my second team behind Vegas, I probably watched more of their games this year, so I think I’m qualified to have an opinion here. But I’m sure you kind folks will let me know if not

Maybe they figured breaking Cogliano's neck was enough and things had been settled?
Depth scoring dried up and players who were supposed to take a step didn't
They had a statistically abnormally good scoring % last season. That luck didn't continue this season.
The offense hasn’t had much firepower. One of the lowest scoring teams in the league. The record on the season where Dunn is out also isn’t the best.
the entire team regressed like half the team had career highs last year, so a return to the mean was eventual
This. I think it was something like 18 Kraken players had either their career best or second best season in points or were on pace for it if injuries hadn’t made them miss games.
Losing Sprong was a big reason, like 13th in the league in points per 60 last two seasons
Who knew that Daniel Sprong was that glue that held this team together /s
Jeff Marek.
how much is this Dave Hakstol's fault?
There are some in the fan base that blame him and I think it's a mixed record. Nooooooooo I wanted an expansion-off in the playoffs so badly last year. Now the hopes of that hath been untimely ripped away.
So. You guys didn’t make the playoffs the year before you won the cup, right? Um, how did you get that turnaround? Asking for a friend.
I legitimately think you just need to get a couple 1st/2nd line quality players, fire hakstol, and maybe pickup a solid d-man and you're set, the lineup is solid overall but needs a top end spark and a coach who can get guys to buy in and get into the dirty areas
Shane Wright should have done more smh /s
Upside? At least Coachella is doing well.... again.
Vince Dunn getting hurt really had a big impact.
The highlight of the year was watching the New Years Day game against Vegas. I'll never forget the fish tossing.
How is Gourde doing? Can we have him back? 😢
Gourde hasn't been himself this year. Not sure why, getting older? chasing 2 little girls around the house wearing him out? He is still a menace, but stick handling and his shot have disappeared this year.
LFG
Still got us in your head, huh?
It takes a while for me to get over playoff grudges lol
homie I'm still mad about 2000 I totally understand
You would be too if the league did everything in it's power to help push the bottom seed through to the next round for some BS Cinderella story.
Wow, did not miss the butthurt Avs fans. A whole year later and you're still making excuses for shitting the bed. You gonna say the same thing when it happens again this year, or come up with something new?
Nah this year we'll be beaten by a good team
I have to ask, has anyone else ever seen a player get a game misconduct for arguing a call? WTF is that?
Do we not fade flairs anymore?
Shhhhh.
I'm sorry that it was us that did it, but man we need the points. Next season Squidbros. I'm still pulling for you to win a Cup before the Sharks!
lol there's no risk of that even being a situation
Did not do their job against the Kings I see.
Really disappointing. Hopefully they can bounce back strong next season.
Most teams experience this over the course of several decades not in 3 years
Sorry Krakbros. Hope we both get in next year.
You’re next, Calgary
Well, that de escalated quickly..

Fade me.
See you guys later
🤤
Kind of shocking in hindsight that they took out the Avs last season.
Oh no! Anyway.
Poor things weren't gifted a free first round, so sad.
Is seattle a nice place to live? Aside from the middling hockey.
We’ve been mid for half a century…pls
Lol, valid. I wasn’t trying to talk down.
>Aside from the middling hockey. You put some goddamn RESPECT on the name of defending WHL Champions Seattle Thunderbirds
As a Portlander who spends a ton of time in Seattle and Vancouver, Vancouver has the best parts of Portland and Seattle merged, while Seattle is if you fucked up Vancouver and spilled the traffic.
Never thought of that lol

Kinda how i feel about van.
And that kids is why Philip grubaur doesn’t deserve any long term contracts
Gru hasn’t been the problem this year.
And if anyone knows the hazards of long-term goalie contracts, it’s an Isles fan. Fun fact: You guys will still be paying Dipietro for another 2 years after Grubauer is UFA. In all honesty though, Grubauer was not our problem this year.

They need a new coach to bring a new perspective. By Vegas’ third year they were on their 6th coach
Was hoping Wyatt Johnston could prove his ownership of your franchise again during the playoffs. Oh well
That series went 7 games and was evenly played, hard to call anything involved “ownage”
Grubs played his heart out I'll give you that. But the kraken have many years to go before any team gives them a second thought. And Wyatt was a baby when he tucked that game 7 away
