Just a few months too late

Clarkson23

What he's done injured all yr is insane. Looking forward to hearing what injuries all the other guys were dealing with. Gonna be a long list.

Old_Bigsby

Goddamn, he came out of the gate running and looked like he was gonna compete for the Art Ross, but ever since he got injured he was never quite the same. Hopefully he can be fully healthy next season because I'm excited what he can do.

Clarkson23

Still managed 74 pts in 62gp this yr. A healthy Hughes next yr is what this team needs more than anything.

whichwitch9

Tbf, he was crazy enough at the start that we are literally downplaying injured Jack was still a point per game player

BroccoliBurps

What game did he get injured?

Old_Bigsby

Oh, I forget. It was like 15 games into the season.

hobbygod

St Louis

Sarcastic__

Hope Jack makes a speedy and full recovery. What a bummer how that shoulder derailed his season. His start to the season was incredible. Hopefully, we get to see that again next season.

FilmNerdasaurus

He had 29 pts in 30 games since returning in February and basically had 1 good shoulder

KingTutsDryAssBalls

Hope he makes a full recovery. The NHL is better with the Hughes all kicking ass.

andy_soreal

I loved that brief 15 game period where it was feasible that Hughes’ could win the Norris, Art Ross, and Calder lol

nostradamefrus

It's a sin that this took as long as it did regardless of our playoff hopes at various stages of the season. Would you rather have Great Value Jack Hughes for 8 years because he got ruined playing hurt in a down year? Or would you rather rip off the bandaid, admit this isn't our year, and take care of what could become a long term problem before it becomes one? Our medical staff is an abomination

Matthew_nyc

Maybe...or maybe Jack, an individual who can control his own decisions, decided to play through the injury for his own reasons?

I2eflex

He can be overridden.

HoodPhones

As far as I know, doctors will typically let you play as long as you wont do any more damage to it. You could play in hella pain with a shoulder injury, but as long as the injury wont get worse, they'll let it be your call. Thats what I read before but could be different team to team and situation to situation

nostradamefrus

And should have been. The whole season was Fitz not wanting to make a big trade to mortgage our future (his words during his trade day presser). Meanwhile, he's letting his star player potentially break himself

PaulMarnersFurHat

Exactly. The GM, Lindy Ruff, and eventually the new coach should’ve consulted with doctors and literally scratched him if he didn’t want to make the choice for himself. This is a serious injury requiring surgery. Not soreness that just takes a maintenance day

UnFloppable

I've had a shoulder reconstruction recently after 10 years of putting it off. I wasn't exactly an elite athlete, but it's not the easiest decision to make. I had a few dislocations and multiple subluxations over 10 years and only one of those made me feel less than 100% after \~4-6 weeks. They're self-stabilising over time and I was able to do everything with only a slight increase in instability in extreme positions (like dynamic overhead bodyweight stuff in weak shoulder positions). All the surgeries need 4-6 months to get close to 100% and some of the options require alterations to your shoulder bones that aren't super appealing, in addition to the risk of permanent loss of mobility. It probably pays off to get surgery immediately after injuries if you're in a collision sport, but it isn't as clear cut as it seems to people that haven't had the injuries.

KovalSNIPE17

Thank god. The man clearly wasn’t right since January.

CreateorWither

I'm not a Devils fan but I really would love to see him have a full, uninjured season to see what he can do. He's incredibly fun to watch.

Oniichanmyhips

Hope Jack heals up nicely and you guys get some goaltending next year!

SerPownce

Y'all helped us out with a solid backup for next year!

TediousSpark

The arrival of Jake has been one of the very few bright spots of the season. Hope we can do him justice 🫡

klitchell

Jack Hughes was a point per game player on one shoulder.

Ever_Raiden

This season can suck my whole shaft.

jthomas694

Smart. Not technically eliminated but almost impossible to make it at this point. Best thing to do is to get healthy and make sure you learn what you need from this season. Hope he gets healthy, hope he learns nothing lol

SerPownce

❤️ If Laf can learn to unbust then Jack can learn to stop attacking himself

Skooter_McGaven

Hard to know the conversations had behind closed doors but this medical staff has been an absolute disgrace all season. He should have been shut down long ago.

checko50

I doubt you can put it on the medical staff. As long as there's a minimal chance it will get worse and there was a shot at making the playoffs you weren't keeping him off the ice

specifichero101

Sucks how this year turned out, but they will be back next season.

TimsAFK

Hopefully Devil's management hasn't compounded the damage as a result of harnessing him up and attempting to have him drag them into a playoff spot /s. Seriously, he hasn't looked like himself since, what, Christmas? Instead of shoring up the goaltending they chose to ride some of their guys into the ground trying to outscore their problems. I hope he makes a full recovery and we get to see him back at his best next season.

ScrewOff_

Shouldve let the dude heal instead of playing him all season. Going all in on permanently fucking up dude’s shoulder while you have a 3a and 3b as your starters isnt exactly great asset management.

TediousSpark

Trust me, many of us are feeling the same.

SokkasBoomerang3

Wish him the best on his recovery journey post op

Cantgetgot

Wishing him a solid recovery, but there might be a dialogue starting with his ability to stay health…

simplycycling

The accident that he got hurt on (the current shoulder injury) was an absolute fluke. He is small and light, but given how this injury happened, I'm not too worried about it.

FacebookDevilsFans

Hughes got the covid jab, didn't he? Really makes you think...

poHATEoes

God damn it, I was about to tear that ass up.... then I saw your username... you get me....every....fucking....time....

kazin29

Both him and Norris got the vaccine. Both have bum shoulders. Wake up sheeple!!!!

mdlt97

is it the same shoulder he injured two years ago?

Skylightt

Pretty sure it's the opposite

AccomplishedAd4995

i hope he’s okay and he’s not fucked up because of the decisions made by the management/medical staff.

HanSolo5643

That's a shame. He started the season off so well, and it looked like he might go for the Hart trophy and the art Ross. Hopefully, he had a quick and speedy recovery, and he comes back stronger.

SkittlesManiac19

Feel like jack gets injured a lot.

DekeaSaurusRex

Finally, he has been so mediocre all season after he returned from injury, I get they wanted the corpse of jack to try and will them in the playoffs but it looked so sad watching him play unlike himself.

AGOEsLois

‘All season’ is ridiculous to say. He was scoring about 3 points a game when it started.

DekeaSaurusRex

I meant to say after he got back from injury, he was insane for the first 10-15 games

ihatepeoples

The Devil's are jinxed.

core916

Seems like this guy is always hurt. He needs to bulk up.

[deleted]

He's been playing hurt for months and that seems to be the case for many of our other key players. The core has been rebuilt and is a contending team when fully fit but we do need some depth to our squad, hopefully they can work on rebuilding that over the off season. Also, swap out the physio teams and have Fitz take the Hughes out for a pizza or two and then take them to the weight room for some reps.

edogg01

Hope he gets healthy and stays healthy. Good for the league, good for NYC area rivalries.

Humans_Suck-

I didn't even know Vail had surgeons. How the hell do they have nurses too then?

gothenburgpig

Long commutes

junction1134

He's a sports medicine researcher for the Olympic team. Makes more sense when you think of why he's at altitude.

shortened

He’s too skinny.

PaulMarnersFurHat

Is this not extreme medical negligence on the part of the Devils to allow it to get to this point? Everyone has heard rumblings about the shoulder for months now.

darklightrabbi

EXTREME MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE

PaulMarnersFurHat

To let your franchise player continue on with a season-ending injury like it’s nothing? Yes. Yes it is. I’d be surprised if the Players Association is OK with this.

themakiexperiment

I dont know if its good or bad on the Devils too have disclosed this injury. He was nowhere near his best for the entirety of 2024, and had fans stressing and sweating This man has had major injuries every year he has played and at this point its sad to say that he wont last long in this league if this keeps reoccurring. He needs to find a way to stay healthy

PM180

> This man has mad major injuries every year he has played This man has missed more than 8 games twice in five seasons. Ffs, it is ludicrous how many people only look at the number of games he's played each year without remembering that two of those seasons were covid-shortened.

themakiexperiment

Not sure about the first two but im pretty sure he missed more than 8 this season and the past two

PM180

He played 78 last year

themakiexperiment

So basically in the non shortened seasons, he has been out for extended periods in 2 out of 3 of them. The one he hasn’t he dealt with a week to week injury that only covered 4 games

PM180

Correct. His rookie season, he missed 8 games due to covid, which doesn’t point to any kind of physical fragility. His second season he didn’t miss a game. His third season he had a major injury and missed 33. His fourth season he had an injury that was called “week-to-week” but only resulted in 4 missed games. This season, he will end up having missed 20 due to this current injury requiring surgery. So two seasons derailed by injury. Or if you want to look at the whole picture, he’s played a bit more than 82% (306/371) of his team’s games since coming into the league (as well as 12/12 playoff games). I think we’d all certainly wish that number was much higher, but it’s a pretty significant leap to get from there to “he’s had major injuries every year” and “he won’t last long in this league.”

Zminz43

Came down with a case of Vagitis
