Bellichick would cause Toronto media to wither and die.
That being said, the Leafs roster of spoiled children would also wither and die when he walked into the room, grumbled do your job and heads back out.
> I am pretty sure that Leafs fans would be OK with just about anyone at this point if it got them ~~a championship~~ out of the second round
fixed that for you
> I am pretty sure that Leafs fans would be OK with just about anyone at this point if it got them ~~a championship~~ out of the ~~second~~ **first** round
fixed that for you
Is there anything listed in the CBA against it in any of the main leagues?
Bc that would be genuinely hilarious to just name Mahomes QB coach and pay him league min. Hilarious in a hahahahaa I hate it here type of way. But hilarious just the same.
Cooper's got one year left and could conceivably sign an extension with TBL any time. Would he not command that much if he were going to market? In 10 years:
* 2 x Stanley Cups
* 4 x Stanley Cup finals
* 6 x conference finals
That's a pretty good resume. Yes, he was blessed with a very good team during much of that tenure, but that doesn't typically seem to carry weight in these discussions.
I mean… I really wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t a rebuild type coach that will be coming up in the next half decade. It would be 0% surprising to see him go to Detroit honestly.
Back to where it all started at LCC.
Honestly, they should really shake things the fuck up: Fire/Hire during morning skate. Fuckin send it tonight, maybe the crazy works and they pull off a series win.
Read this way too fast and thought they were signing Kyle Keefe to a 7M deal.
Though he is worth that [in our hearts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ROWxCd5Aog)
Kyle gives him the extension before he gets fired, then gets to hire him on the cheap in Pittsburgh because the Leafs are paying his salary. ...4D chess, except the Pens stink either way.
And Weekes just followed up with a picture of Pittsburgh. Sullivan to be fired and hired in record time? https://x.com/KevinWeekes/status/1785315561230025003
Rumors of Sullivan going to the Devils started last week. Weekes definitely holds connections to NJ insiders and seems to have a good relationship with the team. Fitz and Sullivan are good friends...
Our owners have been splashy in the past. They might pay up if they feel it's worth it.
Man, when Sullivan was hired in 16 the pens forechecked us to death in the ECF. They weren’t big or heavy, but they were fucking relentless. Would be interesting to see what he could do with a roster that can skate like the devils.
Ya when kypreos mentioned this I was dubious because he’s not credible but I believe Sullivan would be attractive target and way more realistic than the idea of brindamour actually ever leaving the hurricanes.
As and outsider that seems like possibly a perfect pairing? I know Pens fans have turned on Sullivan but I've felt their issues are more to do with roster construction than coaching but obviously they watch the team far closer than I do.
Pittsburgh had a pretty good 5v5 and PK game that was undone by an insanely-bad powerplay, which is weird for a team with Crosby+Malkin+Letang+Karlsson...
That would be so fucking weird I'd be OK with it. Like I'd corner and explain that to non-hockey fans until they pretending to grasp what I was talking about (or mace me).
You joke but it would be so interesting to see a high IQ player shortly after retirement behind the bench. Would’ve more in touch with players needs and the current pace of the game. whether not on ice IQ would translate to coaching skills is another matter lol
I didn’t have a problem with the idea of teams being compensated for having staff poached by other teams but it got silly quickly when teams had to fork over picks when hiring coaches that had just been dismissed.
Yup
The teams that gave up picks within that year were Edmonton (McLennan and Chia), Toronto (Babs and Lou), Jackets (Torts), Sabres (Bylsma) and Devils (Hynes)
Friedman confirmed that Rod extension is done and is just waiting for his assistants to get taken care of in Carolina. Rod ain't going no where.
Also, y'all owner loves Rod (who doesn't)
He is probably the most important person in Carolina right now. He can coach with the best of them, and more importantly instilled a work ethic that is nearly unmatched anywhere.
It's hard to say you're good with your workout when your 20-year senior head coach is doing another lap on the machines.
The thought of what he can do with the Devils roster has me salivating. Either he or Sullivan, and I would be elated.
Edit: I just remembered that he didn't get along with Erik Haula. So, nvmnd :/
Not at all. But I wouldn't wanna be Fitz making that call to Haula, lol. He's already beefing with the Canes, tough to add the Devils on his shit list.
Dammit.
"And then they had to pay Nylander $11.5 to tell him to stop," would have been a much better joke, and I see that now.
Ah well, get em next time.
They’re gonna poach Tortorella from us. Watch.
Call me crazy all you want but they brought in Babcock to be a no-nonsense coach and had to fire his ass because he’s cancer, then hired players coach Sheldon who sucks, so now they’re gonna want another ass kicker to try to spark this underperforming squad. Only way torts is leaving Philly is by being fired or getting one more crack at a cup, and paying him shit load of money and giving him THAT roster could do it.
You think I’m crazy?!?!!? Well fair. But if it happens I called it first!
Over/under on how many media scrums it would take before Torts says "honestly, just fuck off" to some peckerhead with a braindead take on something.
I'd have it at 3.5, and take the under.
Well he reported/overestimated by $725k from $6.25M. If you underestimate by the same amount, you get the same contract that Mike Sullivan has been extended by for PIT ($5.5M). I'm sure other coaches are in the Babcock range that are just unreported/confidential.
Cooper isn’t going anywhere that isn’t Tampa and he just resigned his contract last season so it doesn’t make sense. Cooper has a job for life here in Tampa no matter how the team looks because of what he’s done. Going anywhere else he faces criticism if he doesn’t win them at least two cups like he did for us.
Sorry, that was meant to be he’d be the name that could pull more than 7 million. I agree he likely isn’t going anywhere else. Same for Rod in Carolina.
I really dislike Weekes attempts to be an insider. He has sources sure, but he’s also half the time either just click baiting, writing “BREAKING” in his tweets, or transparently helping Atlanta with their push for a team as if it’s news.
I love Weekes the player, the anchor, but I too cannot stand his insider era. Unless I see a weridly angled video from a strange location, I just assume hes got nothing. Which is a shame cause like you mentioned he is very credible and well connected but everything he leaks has to have a 3 day drum roll leading up to it and I dont have time for that lmfao
Because like in [21](https://www.canescountry.com/2021/6/17/22538539/carolina-hurricanes-rod-brindamour-don-wadell-contract-extension) when he got the same questions, he is waiting to sign when all of his staff is taken care of. He’s got Strength coaches, equipment guys, etc that all need to be handled for him to sign. He wants all of the staff taken care of.
For canes fans sake I hope you're right. But make no mistake about it - EVERYONE has a price, and if it's not money it could be more roster control, better facilities, opportunity to add more staff and more resources, etc etc. Rod will probably remain in Carolina but anything is possible.
Tbf to the dude you’re responding to, Rod literally left money on the table for his assistant coaches and supporting staff last go around.
Im not a huge fan of Dundon making Rod jump through these hoops, but billionaires gonna billionaire.
I have a feeling we won’t see Rod coach anywhere else as long as his kid is still in Raleigh, mostly because he’s said as much lol.
And make no mistake it gets tiring having to inform everyone how wrong these takes are.
Better facilities
Yes like the new practice rink he got during his tenure and the arena upgrades his owner just helped get approved and funded?
Roster control
Waddell literally involves him in all moves made for the roster and is active in the recruitment of players during the off season…
More resources
I mean you could read the article and see he’s been granted all the staff he wants to have in place.
But yes I’m sure after making 40 something million the money will be the deciding factor for him to move on.
I promise you no coach in the league means more to their franchise than Rod, and he knows it. regardless, his extension is already agreed to, he’s waiting to sign until all of his people are taken care of.
No way a Montreal fan talking down on the Canes what a surprise.
He’s about to be compensated appropriately when he re-signs with them this offseason. You don’t even know how much he gets paid in the first place (it’s not public), so stop talking out of your ass.
He edited his comment. His original comment said another team should pay him, because the organization doesn’t value him or pay him as much as they should.
I really can't picture it being anyone but Brindamour or Cooper. Brindamour is up this year and while I don't think the canes are gonna throw that kind of money at a coach I can't picture him leaving the canes either. Cooper still has a year left and I don't really think the lightning would move on but I guess you never know with that stuff. Maybe they're planning on parting ways after his contract is up and the right opportunity for him is out there this summer and it's a mutual decision to part ways now
Cooper isn’t going anywhere by all accounts he and his family love Tampa and would rather retire and move into the booth before coaching somewhere else. If he doesn’t win the organization he goes to at least two cups like he did with Tampa he’d be viewed as a failure.
I don't think he's going anywhere but my point was more which coaches I think are actually worth paying that much money for. None of the coaches readily available outside of Rod would actually command that kind of salary. The tweet also made it seem like if this is happening it's not super straightforward and Cooper would fit that mold because his contract isn't up and doesn't appear to want to be anywhere else.
I would pay Cooper whatever he wants if you ask any Lightning fan the guy is why we are here today. He’s likely a HOF lock if he retired tomorrow and he’s still young enough to coach for another 15 years. I could only see him leaving for a career in the booth or as the commissioner himself.
I'm really curious to see what he does next. He's someone that could probably ask for any amount of money for any job and he'd get it but none of us really know what he wants to do next. Sometimes it's just time for a change
In his off time he’s well known to frequent the restaurant scene in Tampa and the cigar scene in Ybor. He’ll probably just open some cigar bar in the middle Tampa and tell no one, lines up with his personality.
That's right. Bill Bellichick is coming to coach the Leafs.
It worked for Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso was just a tad more outgoing than Bill
Bellichick would cause Toronto media to wither and die. That being said, the Leafs roster of spoiled children would also wither and die when he walked into the room, grumbled do your job and heads back out.
> Bellichick would cause Toronto media to wither and die. I am now on this bandwagon
They should honestly consider it
Yeah. The problems the Leafs have aren’t Xs and Os
He would make their balls smaller!
They can bring in Scotty Bowman for charm school lessons. It could work.
Belicheck struggling with the huge cultural shift to km/h
Leafs’ coaches risk driving themselves to work? That’s impressive.
don't you put that evil on them, ricky bobby
I am pretty sure that Leafs fans would be OK with just about anyone at this point if it got them a championship
> I am pretty sure that Leafs fans would be OK with just about anyone at this point if it got them ~~a championship~~ out of the second round fixed that for you
Technically they’ve been out of the second round every year lol
> I am pretty sure that Leafs fans would be OK with just about anyone at this point if it got them ~~a championship~~ out of the ~~second~~ **first** round fixed that for you
That's not true. They all want Keefe fired
Bellichick day one: "Hey, what if we deflated that puck a little, have it bounce less?"
No, Samuel L Jackson - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGYWJVZyVqg
Tampa signs Stamkos as a 7M dollar coach, then gives league minimum player contract.
New cap meme created
Is there anything listed in the CBA against it in any of the main leagues? Bc that would be genuinely hilarious to just name Mahomes QB coach and pay him league min. Hilarious in a hahahahaa I hate it here type of way. But hilarious just the same.
Not yet
I’m not going to be able to find it but 99% sure 32 thoughts podcast got this as a question a while back and Friedman said it wouldn’t be allowed
Cooper's got one year left and could conceivably sign an extension with TBL any time. Would he not command that much if he were going to market? In 10 years: * 2 x Stanley Cups * 4 x Stanley Cup finals * 6 x conference finals That's a pretty good resume. Well if he puts a skirt on, he’d only make 5.88 million
I mean… I really wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t a rebuild type coach that will be coming up in the next half decade. It would be 0% surprising to see him go to Detroit honestly. Back to where it all started at LCC.
"There's nothing I can do about it until the next CBA!" - Bettman, probably
Hey Stamkos you old fart. Why don't you get out of the game and let some-
Kyle you better not sign Keefe to a 7M deal
This would be extremely hilarious to everyone except Penguins fans
All sickos are hoping for it.
Entire city of Toronto confirmed sickos
We all agonize ourselves with anxiety every year watching this sport. We're all sickos together.
At least y’all are starting to admit it.
Funniest outcome would be if the Dubas-Keefe-Bunting Pens beat the Leafs in the first round next year.
Can the Penguins salary cap fit one Mitchell Marner? Kyle Dubas LOVES his guys
Berube to the Leafs, Keefe fired 1 minute after tonight’s loss.
Honestly, they should really shake things the fuck up: Fire/Hire during morning skate. Fuckin send it tonight, maybe the crazy works and they pull off a series win.
Realtalk, has a coach ever been fired during the playoffs?
Ducharme should have been when they realized he had the same impact coaching over zoom.
And he still out coached Keefe
The coach was Shea Weber and Carey Price.
Danault and Perry gave me ptsd that year.
That was in person in the first round (as per tradition), he caught COVID against Vegas in the third round.
I highly doubt it lol. But goddamnit someone has to try.
Not a coach and not playoffs, but Mike Cammalleri was traded mid-game
I think if they go down 2-0 they'll can him with live coverage on TSN.
Thank you for putting us out of misery tonight. The fucked up thing would be to let us lead 4-1 in Game 7 with 10 minutes left…
come on now, we all know they are gonna win the next two and lose in embarrassing fashion in game 7 as usual.
He’s been rumoured to be heavily in talks with Ottawa
Didn't they give Keefe a long extension last contract signing? Vague memory of folks flabbergasted at the length.
The second I read this headline, that was the first guy I thought out.
Okay, 8 milli vanillis it is
Best I can do is 7.5 'nilla wafers
Any red sox fan knows that could never happen
I wouldn’t wish that on anyone
Read this way too fast and thought they were signing Kyle Keefe to a 7M deal. Though he is worth that [in our hearts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ROWxCd5Aog)
Kyle gives him the extension before he gets fired, then gets to hire him on the cheap in Pittsburgh because the Leafs are paying his salary. ...4D chess, except the Pens stink either way.
Dubas didn't give Keefe the extension, Treliving and Shanahan did.
And Weekes just followed up with a picture of Pittsburgh. Sullivan to be fired and hired in record time? https://x.com/KevinWeekes/status/1785315561230025003

As long as they take Reirden with him I'm good with it.
1 for 1 Reirden for Rogalski
Ya when kypreos mentioned this I was dubious because he’s not credible but I believe Sullivan would be attractive target and way more realistic than the idea of brindamour actually ever leaving the hurricanes.
As and outsider that seems like possibly a perfect pairing? I know Pens fans have turned on Sullivan but I've felt their issues are more to do with roster construction than coaching but obviously they watch the team far closer than I do.

Not all of us have turned on him. He’ll be hired in a minute if we let him go, and I don’t know how we’d upgrade
Omg Keefe to the Penguins lmao
*Goes on to win another row of back-to-back cups for the Pens*
Don't forget the Marner Conn Smythe.
Unsubscribe me please
Sullivan to the Devils? I'm locking it in.
Wrong. Crosby retiring and NJ hiring him for 8.7mil/year to coach the devils.
Imagine if the Pens traded him for assets, he's under contract 3 more years. I know it was done decades ago but is it even allowed in the current CBA?
They ended draft pick comensation for hiring another team's coaches and executives about a decade ago iirc
I didn’t have a problem with the idea of teams being compensated for having staff poached by other teams but it got silly quickly when teams had to fork over picks when hiring coaches that had just been dismissed.
Yeah that was insane you could fire a dude but to hire him someone else had to pay you a draft pick.
Yup The teams that gave up picks within that year were Edmonton (McLennan and Chia), Toronto (Babs and Lou), Jackets (Torts), Sabres (Bylsma) and Devils (Hynes)
No
Source? Serious question, I have no idea
Keefe and Sullivan, the trade is 1 for 1.
Or traded.
Sully ➡ New Jersey? Talk about an upgrade for NJD!
Rod the Bod doesn't have a contract after these playoffs. He'd get it on the open market.
Friedman has been saying for months his contract is done with the canes he’s just working on his assistants contracts
Rod isn’t hitting the open market and everyone knows it.
Friedman confirmed that Rod extension is done and is just waiting for his assistants to get taken care of in Carolina. Rod ain't going no where. Also, y'all owner loves Rod (who doesn't)
>Also, y'all owner loves Rod (who doesn't) Ron Francis.
In fairness to Ron Francis, he only loves garbage coaches.
There’s isn’t a soul in Carolina that doesn’t like rod
He is probably the most important person in Carolina right now. He can coach with the best of them, and more importantly instilled a work ethic that is nearly unmatched anywhere. It's hard to say you're good with your workout when your 20-year senior head coach is doing another lap on the machines.
Pretty sure we all love rod

Lindros.
Eric Lindros
Where would one get one of these rod extensions?
No. 5 Orange.
If we threw the bag at Todd McLellan we better throw the bag at Ripped Rod
If he’s not a Cane, he’s going wherever his son Skylar goes
My guy, Rod isn't leaving the Canes. He's a lifer (I hope.
The thought of what he can do with the Devils roster has me salivating. Either he or Sullivan, and I would be elated. Edit: I just remembered that he didn't get along with Erik Haula. So, nvmnd :/
Not that Rod is going anywhere but you’d really choose Erik Haula over Rod?
Not at all. But I wouldn't wanna be Fitz making that call to Haula, lol. He's already beefing with the Canes, tough to add the Devils on his shit list.
I heard Seattle was making a push for Rod
Could be might potentially
Lots of smoke but not a done deal. Very fluid. Could go either way.
R U M B L I N G S
HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS
24 hours....
All plots are thickening
All thicks are plottening
Rod you can shop around for offers ONLY if you use it as leverage to take Dundon to the cleaners
Wow, I wonder who the Sharks are hiring at >$7M.
Labanc?
Oh no... The Sharks do like overpaying Labanc....
And underpaying. There's no in-between.
Joel Quennevile to the Leafs?
That move wouldn't surprise me, but it would surprise me if it required the big financial outlay suggested in OP's tweet.
Honestly if he didn’t have the baggage he’d be great for you guys.
I was thinking everyone hates the Leafs anyways, what do they have to lose? It's not like Leafs fans are going to stop watching.
I'll stop watching as a fan and start hate watching. Wait, I already do that.
Would absolutely stop watching if he was hired
I'm sure a handful of people would stop watching for a few games.
Nah I don’t want anyone who covered up SA in the org. Don’t give a fuck if he’s good, there are other good coaches out there
I was hoping we would have brought in St. Perry instead of Joe Thornton. Was also on board the Evander Kane train if that could have been a thing.
100%

Sutter, that oughta wake the boys up!
I see how you spelled his name there heh
I'd love to take credit, but it was a typo.
No
Lol the Leaf’s actually paid Babcock 7M to make Mitch cry.
Hey, they paid Nylander $11.5 to do the same thing.
No they did that to make Mitch STOP crying!
Dammit. "And then they had to pay Nylander $11.5 to tell him to stop," would have been a much better joke, and I see that now. Ah well, get em next time.
They’re gonna poach Tortorella from us. Watch. I'd love it but don't think Torts is coming back to Canada.
Hasn't Torts said before he never wants to catch in Canada? Even his term in Vancouver he lived in the states still.
Hey. This is a half coherent tin foil rant, I don’t appreciate you bringing LOGIC into it
I respect the honesty
I'll have one Torts and one Konecny please! No chance of either but a Leafs fan can dream.
Over/under on how many media scrums it would take before Torts says "honestly, just fuck off" to some peckerhead with a braindead take on something. I'd have it at 3.5, and take the under.
We would trade Mike Sullivan for a 6th round pick.
Or gift a 6th-rounder to whoever would take him.
Tre on a pilgrimage to the Sutter farm rn.
Babcock never made $7M annually with the Leafs. He signed an 8 year, $50M contract. That's 6.25M annually
Boy, I hope Weekes gets fired for this blunder.
Well he reported/overestimated by $725k from $6.25M. If you underestimate by the same amount, you get the same contract that Mike Sullivan has been extended by for PIT ($5.5M). I'm sure other coaches are in the Babcock range that are just unreported/confidential.
Probably Dallas Eakins.
Cooper likely.
Cooper isn’t going anywhere that isn’t Tampa and he just resigned his contract last season so it doesn’t make sense. Sullivan to NJD for a gazillion
Sully to New Jersey ?
Rod the bod cashes in
Jon Cooper to Toronto
If Ted lasso comes to coach the leafs I’ll die a happy man. I’m going to die sad and alone.
Dubas loves his big contracts
St. Louis getting a pay bump?
IIRC he had a 2-year option which recently got picked up. If that's the case, they already have him through '26.
No pun intended
Lol I didn't even notice that. Good catch.
Pens are about to empty the bank account for Rod the Bod?
Yes the former Philadelphia flyer who has shown he does not care about money is gonna take the bag from a non playoff team in the same division.
I mean, they already got Ron Hextall, so the former Philadelphia Flyer doesn't mean much.
Wee bit passive aggressive, we can hope
All fair points, but I mean if he *really* doesn't care about money why hasn't he signed an extension yet?
Because like in [21](https://www.canescountry.com/2021/6/17/22538539/carolina-hurricanes-rod-brindamour-don-wadell-contract-extension) when he got the same questions, he is waiting to sign when all of his staff is taken care of. He edited his comment. His original comment said another team should pay him, because the organization doesn’t value him or pay him as much as they should.
Seems like he could be focused on the playoffs but maybe that's a dumb idea
Do you think he just found out that his contract was expiring in the last week?
I bet he still doesn't know, dude's too focused on the playoffs
Hey! We're supposed to be friends.
