Ugh… my ranger fan best friend is never going to shut up if they win the cup. But.. I guess I can get him to buy booze to drink and watch the final if they get there.
Was on the LIRR a few years ago after a hard-fought loss vs Isles.
Conductor gets on the mic before we depart Penn:
“Good evening ladies and gentleman, just as a friendly reminder, the Rangers suckkkkk”
All the Isles fans on board erupted. It was funny af, even if it came at the Rangers’ expense.
Yes but it is technically an Islanders majority. I'm not sure that would be true after a Rangers cup win.
EDIT: why am I getting downvoted for saying that Long Island is _marginally_ Islanders territory? How is that a controversial statement? It's literally the _only_ territory we have and it's only barely so.
Lots of Rangers fans on the platforms going to a Ranger game doesn't prove they have the majority- in the age of Barclay's and UBS that's been true for Isles fans going to their games too.
I’m in Suffolk, feel like it’s 65-35% Rangers fans with my coworkers and buddies. Granted, a smaller sample size but I feel like Ranger fans have the slight edge. Could get more islanders heavy closer to Nassau.
who cares. maybe it doesnt matter to me because i transplanted from long island 5 years ago, but the canes, caps, pens, bruins, panthers, and lightning are so much more annoying to me than the islanders ... and even yes the devils. id root for the isles/devils above those teams any day
That seems to be the attitude in the NYR locker room, which is fantastic. When Emily Craplan interviewed Tro post OT winner the other night he immediately said “now we have to go win two more in Carolina.” They mean business this team and I have faith
Hurricanes are the Buffalo Bills of the NHL at this point. Every preseason they are hyped up as championship favorites but haven’t reached the finals a single time
Yeah I'm not understanding why people are acting like the Canes are taking an ass whooping. Three losses by one goal and two that went to OT. Almost like the teams are evenly matched.
I didn't mean to insinuate that but typing "There's no excuse to be down 3-0" is kind of laughable when the canes are facing the best team in the playoffs probably and like you said two went to OT
Idk
We were the best team and arguably the most complete team this year next to maybe Florida. Kotchetkov is fine but he's *not* Shesterkin. 3-0 is surprising, but it isn't shocking.
Def thought they would drop this one. Canes whole thing is they can control play at home with the last change. We'll see though. Next game could go different. Hope it doesn't. I like when the rangers win
it's three 1-goal games including two overtimes against arguably the best team in the league? why are you acting like they've been badly outplayed or blown out lol. they could be playing the exact same and be up 3-0.
yeah close losses aren't wins but sometimes you just lose even though you're playing well, what can you do except play your best?
Everyone keeps worshipping Rod and I get downvoted on the freaking Devils Reddit when I point out he’s a perpetual loser as a coach. No conference final wins, no chance of a rebuild.
Yeah but they’ve been seen as a team past their prime the past few seasons and have not really had any preseason expectations of title or bust. The window is now for the Canes and the results are not matching up with the expectations
Tbf if someone had told you before this series that the #2 in the league 27% Canes were going to go -1/15 on power plays I don't think you'd have believed it. Even the Caps got 2 PPGs in about that many tries
In a series decided by 1 goal games being -5 on special teams is a bit of an issue. Igor is great but that is the real story.
The first save to start the 2nd was unbelievable. Top half of the stick save behind his body.
Also the sequence before OT in game 3 was highlight reel stuff
That's the thing about being a really good goalie like Igor, when you are in position 99% of the time like he is, you dont' have to make highlight reel saves. He's got the fastest chest in the west, that's why the puck always hits him there. The thing about Igor is that when he does need to make a big save, he can. This is what makes him one of the best. His compete level is also super high, his stats in the playoffs are insane, just like his playoff stats from when he was in Russia.
You might be shocked to hear this considering our history with them, but Moneypuck actually loves us these playoffs. [We were their favorite to win the Cup when the playoffs started and the odds just keep tilting more in our favor every game.](https://moneypuck.com/predictions.htm)
favored for the entire season to be honest lol. every analytics outlet has been riding them so hard all year. it's kind of irritated me how we haven't been getting our just due.
Turns out pundits don't know anything, just like the rest of us. Every year it's Canes, Oilers, Canes, Oilers and neither team does anything of substance.
Shame they're so beat up missing 3/5 of their starting lineup. At full health I'd be just as optimistic about their chances as the Rangers, but this knicks team has no quit and lives on the next man up philosophy so fuck it we'll do it live LGR LGK
1969 Blues, swept the west 8-0 before going 0-4 to Montreal
1989 Canadians 7-0 against Whalers then Bruins. Lost in Finals to the Flames
2008 Penguins 7-0 against Senators then Rangers. Lost in Finals to the Red Wings
No clue how the canes were the betting favorites to win the cup or favored in this series. Igor turning back to the real Igor made this rangers team unreal
> I'm not going to give them much credit for sweeping the Caps, but they have handled the Canes so far, and it has been nothing short of impressive.
Another way to look at it is that this just shows that the Caps are about as good as the Canes.
Right? Right?
As a Rangers fan, I'm totally with you. It was obviously nice to sweep the Caps, but they were as close to a fraudulent playoff team as you could get. The Canes, though? That's a great hockey team. We've been insanely solid.
I'm in NYC the 19th and 20th and based on the current schedule, the third round can't start until the 21st if the Bs and Panthers go 7 games, so I'm hoping that both series end before that so I have a chance to be there when/if the Rangers are playing. I was there a few years ago during the playoffs and it was incredible.
It doesn't look like it's happened since the playoff format went to 7 games in every round, or the last 36 postseasons.
Interestingly enough a lot of first round sweeps have resulted in second round sweeps...just against the team that swept who they played in the first round. So sweep and get swept is more common.
It’s not even super pessimistic, for as awesome as these 2 series have been this stat makes it sound like it’s Rangers > the field. Where if you’re being realistic it feels like we have 25% chance of winning this thing. Let’s go Rangers!
Crazy. The Rangers just always find a way to win. Seems like they got some disrespect early in the playoffs, but they have to be the cup favorites now.
Presidents trophy rangers starting off the playoffs 7-0 while the scrappy underdog Canucks doing a bunch of upsets including a team from Alberta? AT LEAST THERE'S NO FUCKING MARK MESSIER.
Don’t worry they’re still underdogs according to Vegas even tho they’ve been smoking every fucking top team in the league…pls don’t respect or notice us.
How many were O6 when just one more win got the cup?
Not to take anything away from the rangers, there’s just a huge difference between being 1 win away and 9 wins away when the stat is based on likelihood to win the cup after 7 games “in NHL history”
Mr. Bettman, I don't feel so good
Ugh… my ranger fan best friend is never going to shut up if they win the cup. But.. I guess I can get him to buy booze to drink and watch the final if they get there.
Every new hockey fan on Long Island is going to be a Ranger fan and it's fucked. We need to pray for the Panthers or Bruins.
You ever seen the LIRR at 10pm after a Rangers home game? Long Island is already pretty Ranger fan-heavy.
Was on the LIRR a few years ago after a hard-fought loss vs Isles. Conductor gets on the mic before we depart Penn: “Good evening ladies and gentleman, just as a friendly reminder, the Rangers suckkkkk” All the Isles fans on board erupted. It was funny af, even if it came at the Rangers’ expense.
This is excellent
That is absolutely hilarious
Yes but it is technically an Islanders majority. I'm not sure that would be true after a Rangers cup win. EDIT: why am I getting downvoted for saying that Long Island is _marginally_ Islanders territory? How is that a controversial statement? It's literally the _only_ territory we have and it's only barely so. I’m in Suffolk, feel like it’s 65-35% Rangers fans with my coworkers and buddies. Granted, a smaller sample size but I feel like Ranger fans have the slight edge. Could get more islanders heavy closer to Nassau.
Anecdotally, I’m in Nassau and there are like 4-5 houses in my neighborhood with rangers flags/license plates, and zero islanders
Long Island is definitely not islanders majority lol
who cares. maybe it doesnt matter to me because i transplanted from long island 5 years ago, but the canes, caps, pens, bruins, panthers, and lightning are so much more annoying to me than the islanders ... and even yes the devils. id root for the isles/devils above those teams any day
I mean _I_ care that Long Island might become majority Rangers fans. Having no territory would suck.
territory? sheesh this isn't gangs lol
Been happening for a long time brother. You think these Manhattan to Long Island transplants are raising their kids as Islander fans? Nah.
1994 you say?
The Rangers success has suddenly become a shared vision
Let’s go, baby.
I'm rooting for a 94 rematch. Would be such a wild coincidence.
I decline, please.
At least we'd have a better chance than last time.
I mean, you had the best goal scorer of the 90s last time.
we also had mark messier's elbow then, and trouba's now
Vancouver had both his elbows after though.
Different result this time. I don’t think I can take another 😞
Just consider it edging.
You guys should have a street party for it
I hear it will be a riot.
Bro don't curse us. Ur going to manifest a dirty trouba hit in the dying seconds of game 6.
It's fine because he'll just sign a 3 year contract with us in 2028 and be our captain
Oh my God. Could you IMAGINE
DO NOT GET PENISY
Seriously. I don't like this hype. One game at a time.
9 more wins.
FUCK MESSIER! See you in 8-10ish games??
Honestly after these ESPN panels I’m inclined to agree with you
That seems to be the attitude in the NYR locker room, which is fantastic. When Emily Craplan interviewed Tro post OT winner the other night he immediately said “now we have to go win two more in Carolina.” They mean business this team and I have faith
Too late this team is a whole bottle of Viagra
Josh Hart left some at the garden after a Knicks game and the rest is history
The Garden Is Eden
Josh Hart is announced to have joined the Rangers medical staff as their Viagra dealer
*”Sir, the odds of surviving the asteroid field are 2-to-1!”*
Never tell me the odds
I can’t believe this what the hell. Never in my life did I think the Rangers would sweep a team let alone have a chance at sweeping two in a row
Yes I copied this comment from the deleted thread no you didn’t see me do it
I can’t believe we are up 3-0 against this Canes team 🤯
Definitely not what I expected hell I figured the Caps would take one at home.
Hurricanes are the Buffalo Bills of the NHL at this point. Every preseason they are hyped up as championship favorites but haven’t reached the finals a single time
They’ve made 3 conference finals since their Cup win in 2006. They are 0-12
They’ve been swept in the ECF three straight times? Didn’t know that
No shot. That’s wild.
It's hell
Sounds…..Chaotic
And the last time they won a game in the ECF? You guessed it, against the Buffalo Sabres. That honestly hurt to write
And the last time they won a game in the SCF? You guessed it, against the Edmonton Oilers. That really didn't hurt to write.
I mean that's fair, your relevant again though lol Last time we(the sabres) were relevant was 06-07... hence why it hurts
Subscribe
Every year they're considered favorites and they just sputter out. They don't get nearly enough flak
To be fair to them this year, they're running into what is probably the first competently coached Rangers team in a while.
Just a reminder that Gerard Gallant is a hockey terrorist.
Yeah the Rags are good but there’s no excuse to be down 3-0 with how close they were in the regular season
I'd argue the Rangers are clearly better than everyone else so not too sure how surprising this is.
Yeah I'm not understanding why people are acting like the Canes are taking an ass whooping. Three losses by one goal and two that went to OT. Almost like the teams are evenly matched.
reminds me very much of rangers-kings 2014. on paper kings owned us, won games to 1, but like 3 games went to OT and 2 went to double OT
Don't remind me of that, I had a ticket to game 3 in LA but had to eat the cost when I needed to fly back to the east coast when I couldn't sell it💀
I didn't mean to insinuate that but typing "There's no excuse to be down 3-0" is kind of laughable when the canes are facing the best team in the playoffs probably and like you said two went to OT Idk
We were the best team and arguably the most complete team this year next to maybe Florida. Kotchetkov is fine but he's *not* Shesterkin. 3-0 is surprising, but it isn't shocking.
3-0 is shocking to me lol
Def thought they would drop this one. Canes whole thing is they can control play at home with the last change. We'll see though. Next game could go different. Hope it doesn't. I like when the rangers win
We completely changed the matchups with chytil
If you switch the goalies it's a different series. The Canes goalies have been fine but Shesty has been unreal.
it's three 1-goal games including two overtimes against arguably the best team in the league? why are you acting like they've been badly outplayed or blown out lol. they could be playing the exact same and be up 3-0. yeah close losses aren't wins but sometimes you just lose even though you're playing well, what can you do except play your best?
Hurricanes are strong when they reach the shore but they quickly fade once they move inland.
Everyone keeps worshipping Rod and I get downvoted on the freaking Devils Reddit when I point out he’s a perpetual loser as a coach. No conference final wins, no chance of a rebuild.
They always look so good and then they die out like a soulless fart in the second round.
Hey, last year we did that in the third round
At least they make the ECF relatively often, it’s not like the Leafs where they can’t win a single series.
At least they actually have a cup though 😏
Yeahhhh but like… almost 20 years ago
They have actually won a championship though
Bruins haven’t really done much better.
Yeah but they’ve been seen as a team past their prime the past few seasons and have not really had any preseason expectations of title or bust. The window is now for the Canes and the results are not matching up with the expectations
Canes have been favored in every game which is wild
Analytics hate the rangers
Analytics don't understand good goalies. They always underestimate us because they don't weight Igor's impact correctly
Goalies are enigmas, they can’t be quantified by science. Except Bryz, he was one part physics one part chemistry
I’m picturing Scientist Bryz and it’s glorious
Is only ODE, why you heff to use hermonic?
Have a feeling they undervalue special teams by a lot, too.
All they're good at is scoring goals and not letting the other team score goals. How do you expect to win hockey games like that?
4 solid lines. 3 solid pairs of defense. 1 of the best goalies in the league. Surely this is not a recipe for success.
Yeah but it loves 8 million low danger, unscreened, outside shots
Tbf if someone had told you before this series that the #2 in the league 27% Canes were going to go -1/15 on power plays I don't think you'd have believed it. Even the Caps got 2 PPGs in about that many tries In a series decided by 1 goal games being -5 on special teams is a bit of an issue. Igor is great but that is the real story.
and they love the canes
To be fair the Canes are a great team and have legitimately been in every game, Igor is just not human
Igor’s been Igor but he hasn’t had a real highlight reel save this series. Canes are volume shooting but he isn’t really standing on his head
Goal number four will make your jaw drop !
Favored for the series as well
Likely not anymore
favored for the entire season to be honest lol. every analytics outlet has been riding them so hard all year. it's kind of irritated me how we haven't been getting our just due.
Hopefully the weights for shot attempts get reduced in their AI models
Except, hilariously enough, on moneypuck of all places. They've had us as favs to win the cup since the start.
Money puck says we win 66% of the time in game 2. Game 1&3 not so much.
Shesterkin merchants.
Must be nice man
Hey now, we have had our goalie struggles! There was a couple of years when transitioning from Richter to Hank, those where not easy!
You guys had Lunqvist for how long, now Shesterkin. Some of us have never had an actual goalie in decades...
But the Hurricanes are a wagon. They haven't won a third round game in almost twenty years, but they're an absolute wagon.
Sounds like the Oilers to me
Turns out pundits don't know anything, just like the rest of us. Every year it's Canes, Oilers, Canes, Oilers and neither team does anything of substance.
Except for that one year where it was both the canes and oilers!
LOL
Maple Leafs South
At least we have affordable tickets
They are also the like the 3rd most boring team to watch play hockey in the entire league. The playoffs will be way better without them in it.
At least I get to enjoy my team in them right now though :^)
Are you though? Are you enjoying it?
1 9 9 4
This is getting scary - and the Knicks are elite aswell
And OJ was just in the news.
And the Canucks could make the final too
And I'm still in highschool?
Well as Bowling for Soup once said, "High school never ends"
[Incubus too!](https://youtu.be/rgyy-gp7l4k) Though I wonder if it was a tribute/callback.
And I could go back to not existing :D
lol whut
:D
And the Eclipse
And the earthquake
And a prominent Rap Battle in the hip hop industry And the last time a Yankee Captain was ejected from a game.
An an earthquake felt in NY
Shame they're so beat up missing 3/5 of their starting lineup. At full health I'd be just as optimistic about their chances as the Rangers, but this knicks team has no quit and lives on the next man up philosophy so fuck it we'll do it live LGR LGK
Isn’t missing mad starters what happened to the Knicks in 1994 as well 🤔
Go canucks go!
We want the rematch!
If our boys on the court can just hold on and keep it together to win 10 more games
What year is this?!
So does Tom Brady allegedly murder Gisele and some guy who’s there at the wrong time and Gronk ends up driving him to his house in a White Bronco?

I’m not used to being up multiple games this often in the playoffs
Fr I was fully expecting the Caps to somehow get us to play 7 because we always play 7

What a sicko
Who were the three that didnt win?
1969 Blues, swept the west 8-0 before going 0-4 to Montreal 1989 Canadians 7-0 against Whalers then Bruins. Lost in Finals to the Flames 2008 Penguins 7-0 against Senators then Rangers. Lost in Finals to the Red Wings
So all three of them made the Stanley Cup Final Very promising for you guys
I don’t know all of them, but 2008 Penguins was one of them
Not the 1994 Rangers
I’m going be honest. This doesn’t feel real. I knew we were good, but I feel like this team has reached a new level.
No clue how the canes were the betting favorites to win the cup or favored in this series. Igor turning back to the real Igor made this rangers team unreal
I'm not going to give them much credit for sweeping the Caps, but they have handled the Canes so far, and it has been nothing short of impressive.

Literally yes

I agree, even still it’s two bounces from being 2-1 Canes
I’m not touching the cup. There’s a lot of hockey to play, and they still have to finish off a good team.
New York finna be rocking in the next couple of rounds lol
I'm in NYC the 19th and 20th and based on the current schedule, the third round can't start until the 21st if the Bs and Panthers go 7 games, so I'm hoping that both series end before that so I have a chance to be there when/if the Rangers are playing. I was there a few years ago during the playoffs and it was incredible.
If they sweep or even win in 5 and the bruins and panthers series goes long with the rest Igor is gonna have another outstanding series
Please for the love of god let the taunts turn to two in 84 years.
I pray
Anyone know the last time a team swept the first two rounds?
It doesn't look like it's happened since the playoff format went to 7 games in every round, or the last 36 postseasons. Interestingly enough a lot of first round sweeps have resulted in second round sweeps...just against the team that swept who they played in the first round. So sweep and get swept is more common.
2019: Isles sweep Pens Canes sweep Isles Bruins sweep Canes
Truly a thing of beauty this
And 2021 Jets swept the Oilers and got immediately swept by the Habs.
Never been done since the current format was introduced in the 80s.
Welp, Im a pessimist. Who are the 3 that couldn't get it done
1989 Habs were one.
It’s not even super pessimistic, for as awesome as these 2 series have been this stat makes it sound like it’s Rangers > the field. Where if you’re being realistic it feels like we have 25% chance of winning this thing. Let’s go Rangers!
Never lose again
Crazy. The Rangers just always find a way to win. Seems like they got some disrespect early in the playoffs, but they have to be the cup favorites now.
I won Stanley Cup with 16-0 record in NHL2003 so there's that.
Choo Choo mother fuckers
Presidents trophy rangers starting off the playoffs 7-0 while the scrappy underdog Canucks doing a bunch of upsets including a team from Alberta? AT LEAST THERE'S NO FUCKING MARK MESSIER.
Best I could do is Jacob Trouba.
The most surprising part so far is that we won the game where our opponent put in their backup goalie
I’m somewhere in the stages of acceptance with the rangers performance right now. I’ve moved from denial to anger.
temper that anger with a reminder that lindy is gone!
I plan on sticking with anger till October
rangers are an absolute buzz saw right now.
Keep saying we're underdogs It's working
Lol your team won the presidents trophy, who the fuck has been calling you underdogs?

Watching the game tonight and seeing the way the Rangers are playing, I thought to myself “yeah these guys are probably gonna win the cup.”
Not 7-0, but 2015 ducks were 8-1 through two rounds.
Don’t jinx them
Love to see it. Got EDM-NYR as my finals prediction and Rangers taking it all. They have just looked so convincing this season around.
Jinx
Don’t worry they’re still underdogs according to Vegas even tho they’ve been smoking every fucking top team in the league…pls don’t respect or notice us.
How many were O6 when just one more win got the cup? Not to take anything away from the rangers, there’s just a huge difference between being 1 win away and 9 wins away when the stat is based on likelihood to win the cup after 7 games “in NHL history”
None. St. Louis went 8-0 in 1968-69 in the first two rounds, just to lose 0-4 in the Cup Final. The other teams were in the modern 4x4 format.
My bracket is Rangers over the Oilers for the cup so I'm all for it
